Title: The Guardians
Author: William Joyce, Laura Geringer
Series or standalone: series
Publication year: 2011
Genres: fiction, fantasy, adventure
Blurb: Nicholas St. North is a daredevil swordsman whose prowess with double scimitars was legendary. Like any swashbuckling young warrior, North seeks treasure and adventure, leading him to the fiercely-guarded village of Santoff Claussen, said to be home to the greatest treasure in all the East, and to an even greater wizard: Ombric Shalazar...but when North arrives, legends of riches have given way to terrors of epic proportions. North must decide whether to seek his fortune, or save the village. When the rebellious hero gets literally sucked into the chaos, the fight becomes very personal. The Nightmare King and his evil Fearlings are ruling the night, owning the shadows, and sending waves of fear through all of Santoff Claussen. For North, this is a battle worth fighting...and he's not alone. There are five other Guardians out there. He only has to find them in time.

I’d say I enjoyed the Legend of the Three Caballeros broadly. It’s approach to a lot of the mythical places was very comedic and/or loosely cartoony.
On one hand, it was neat to have a show that was okay with being silly and goofy. But on the other, it did reduce some historical and cultural landmarks to rather odd places. (I remember the Moai in particular. Like, cool lava salamanders but can the Moai sometime exist without narratively wiping out the fact that people made them?)
Also the José and Panchito personalities were different. I actually found José’s to be a little stranger? Because apparently I did have some vague ideas of what their personalities would be, based on the movies?

Title: E. Aster Bunnymund and the Warrior Eggs at the Earth’s Core
Author: William Joyce
Rating: 3 out of 5
Review: Perhaps my least favorite of the series. While I do enjoy the characters being introduced in this, I wasn’t really entertained by anything else. I found myself bored and had to restart this book from the beginning twice. I still wanted to finish the book and the series but I just wasn’t gripped by the story in any way.

Reading it like someone who didn’t watch the movie... all these grave musings coming from a bunny, whose “nose twitches” and “massive ears flinch”, is hilarious. Just. Stop for a minute. Imagine a bunny. This bunny is wondering about the terrible battles to come and what, if any, part he will decide to play.
This kind of thing is another reason why I love children’s books.

Inktober day 7 - Illustration
From chapter 28 of “E. Aster Bunnymund and the Warrior Eggs at the Earth’s core.”
It was a sound he’d hoped to never hear again. He remembered it from the time he’d destroyed the Pookan Brotherhood. It was the one battle of the Golden Age he had nearly lost. “They’ve got a Pooka with them!” he hissed with alarm.
He knew he must act quickly.
“Make ready!” he bellowed to his Fearling Army. “The battle begins!”

The Guardians Collection (2018) by William Joyce
This set includes all five titles in The Guardians book series: Nicholas St. North and the Battle of the Nightmare King (2011), E. Aster Bunnymund and the Warrior Eggs at the Earth’s Core (2012), Toothiana - Queen of the Fairy Army (2012), The Sandman and the War of Dreams (2013) and finally Jack Frost - The End Becomes the Beginning (2018).
All these characters however first made their appearance 1993 in stand alone children's literature as classic santa, tooth fairy and so on, but later developed into The Guardians of Childhood.
I learned that, just because i loved the movie doesn't mean i have to read the books. I tried to get myself into the original storyline but the lore is incredibly deep (serval years to be honest) and there's so many characters in every story arc with each of their own backstory, it became so heavy to keep track.
The books are filled with detailed fighting action, my mind having a hard time processing what's going on, i think because i'm not used to detailed fantasy like this.
I did learn though, that Jack Frost is a reincarnation of an earlier guardian called Nightlight, and that he had a love interest in a human named Kathrine, who herself then became a magical being called "Mother Goose" (because she had healing ability or something, I can't remember?) and that Pitch actually were just a cursed human carrying grief of his daughter, the father of Mother Earth.
There were a lot of surprises in their personalities I didn't expect, for example that Easter Bunny were more of a steampunk creature, and that Sandman actually is the newest (and probably strongest?) guardian, and also Tooth fairy queen isn't quirky like in the movie. She's more mature and warrior queen, carrying a sword all the time. Did they do her dirty in the movies?? Not sure, mostly because the movies are definitely adapted in softer approach for younger audience, which is understandable. In the books, there are tough wars and fighting in almost every book.
I liked it, but myself is not into fantasy anymore so will sell my collection to someone who will appreciate them more. 3/5 stars

SPA (2021) by Erik Svetoft
A mysterious moist mold is taking over the high quality spa resort. Not only are the staff being affected, but the guests are losing their minds too.
Insanely creepy atmosphere, i love the paneling bring forward such a eerie feeling. Nothing is as it seems, the world around them is plain bizarre. But serval times i find myself looking at the details and shadowing, made by a single person, it's soo good!
I'm both freaked out and entertained. Creepfactor reaching top peak horror! 5/5 stars
