ABOUT
the story goes that over the course of history, fathers have looked upon their sons as the continuation of their legacy, the bearers of their name and the guardians of their life's work. daughters, adorned with grace, rather cherished as the delicate gems in a father's crown, symbols of beauty and the keepers of his heart. born into a family where influence and ambition were as inherent as breathing, little miss caroline was no exception, fated to a lifelong dance of soaring aspirations and crushing expectations, a ballet choreographed under the weight of tradition.
in the opulent confines of her childhood home, where tradition’s weight hung heavy as a velvet curtain, caroline shone with an inner brilliance. her parents introduced her with a blend of pride and superficiality: 'and last, but not least, our darling daughter!' her mother had undoubtedly imagined a daughter who would seamlessly step into high society with the same grace and success she. yet, it soon became clear that caroline’s fascination lay not in societal grace but in the business world her father ruled. at the brink of each new era, it is after all the bold spirit who dares to break old constraints and forge a new destiny.
while her brothers often revealed themselves uninterested in their father’s business growing up, caroline eagerly seized every opportunity to accompany him to meetings and high-profile events. young caroline was enchanted by the bustle of negotiations, the weight of authority in her father's voice, and the firm handshake that sealed important deals. his world of papers and partnerships, debates and decisions, became a mesmerizing spectacle for her. she was drawn to the energy of the boardroom and the power of business as if it were a storybook unfolding before her eyes.
in the dim corridors of tradition, some parents shape their children not with the freedom to grow, but with the weight of ancestral expectations. they drape their offspring in the garments of past generations, binding them to a maze of pressures and predefined paths. roaming these corridors, it was during her teenage years that caroline’s rebellious streak became apparent. her mother's attempts to placate her often seemed overly indulgent, in fact elizabeth was so soft with her it prompted caroline to believe she’d let her get away with murder. despite outperforming and outshining her brothers academically and otherwise, she remained the ‘darling daughter’, a label she would later begin to fear would indefinitely overshadow her true accomplishments.
draped in awards and accolades, caroline hung on her father's every word, soaking up his leadership and strategy like a sponge. she was captivated not by the glittering distractions of her mother's socialite life, but by the raw, unfiltered reality of business. each visit to her father’s side was a lesson in ambition and tenacity, and with every experience, her resolve to follow in his footsteps grew stronger.
for caroline, no amount of pearls or velvet lipstick could ever match the thrill of witnessing her father’s commanding presence in the boardroom. from those early days, she was determined to carve out her own path, driven by the same ambition that had shaped his career. naturally, this growing resolve set the stage for a clash between her father’s conservative ideals and caroline’s emerging individuality, leading to a strained relationship as she increasingly defied his expectations.
it was joining the family business that finally exposed her to the sobering reality, her relationship with her father strained after a pivotal argument in which he dismissed her ambitions as mere whims. caroline’s drive to lead and innovate clashed with her father’s rigid adherence to legacy and tradition, and as she looked around the room she realized she had been the last to understand that he wouldn’t budge on the matter.
her chance to redefine her own narrative came when the bulletin sports approached her with a project to expand its influence in american sports. it offered caroline an opportunity to showcase her talents on a broader stage and it seemed to her like a fresh start, more so than an exciting opportunity, a chance to break free from the familiar confines of her role and make a meaningful impact of her own.
yet, as she threw herself into this high-profile project, the excitement of the new venture giving way to a creeping dissatisfaction. friends complained she missed dinners to tend to work, romantic partners felt increasingly sidelined, and family members grumbled about her absence from visits. caroline threw herself into her work with a fervor, as if it might soon fulfill her as it once did, like a drug. therapy sessions offered little solace, merely suggesting that her loved ones might have a point and advising her to pick up more hobbies. instead, her solution (as she saw it) arrived in the form of an unexpected opportunity: the role of ceo at bulletin sports.
BITS AND BOBS
* pinterest * ask caroline about love, and she'll call it beautiful nonsense she has no time for, but deep down, she's wary of the strings and expectations that come with it. * ask caroline about her job, and she’ll say it’s exciting and fulfilling; but deep down, she’s still chasing the approval she hopes to earn by eventually taking over the randolph family business. * ask people about her style, and they’ll say she’s always impeccably dressed in tailored suits and ostentatious accessories. but ask caroline about it, and she’ll say she’s happiest in jeans and hiding underneath baseball caps, or wearing comfy loungewear and her favorite old university sweater at home. * ask people about her apartment, and they’ll tell you it’s a stylish, spacious retreat with modern design and high-end touches. but ask caroline about it, and she’ll say it’s a cozy sanctuary where she unwinds in candlelight, surrounded by books she rarely reads and precious mementos. "the girl from ipanema" by stan getz & joão gilberto always brings a smile to her lips and makes her head sway, after a couple of glasses of wine "midnight city" by m83 is what she puts on to dance around to on her own and "you get what you give" by new radicals never fails to bring back old memories. in the world of american sports, the randolph name is a beacon of legacy and influence. randolph sports enterprises (rse), the family’s crown jewel, owns a major nfl team whose games are followed with fervor. their influence stretches far beyond the field; as they're part of shaping the very fabric of sports culture, policies, and major events across the us.

[ ! ] — it seems that [ arnold whisham ] has entered the scene ! he looks exactly like [ david gandy ]. this [ 42-year-old ] is the [ ceo ] of [ sportscast ]. it’s a small wonder since he is known for being [ charismatic & resourceful ] and [ manipulative & egoistical ]. he has been involved with the company for [ 2 ] years. [ MARTHA | SHE+HER | 25 | GMT+3 ]
001. 𝙄𝙉𝙁𝙊𝙍𝙈𝘼𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉
NAME: arnold whisham AGE: 42 GENDER: cis man PRONOUNS: he/him ORIENTATION: heterosexual MARITAL STATUS: married OCCUPATION: the ceo of sportscast EDUCATION: mba from lbs
002. 𝘽𝙄𝙊𝙂𝙍𝘼𝙋𝙃𝙔
arnold was born a petulant child and he never changed. maturity only made him sneakier with his bad temper, snobbishness and selfishness. he learnt to play people so that he never needed to throw a temper tantrum: he got what he wanted from others with fair speech and colorful imagery. he still gets upset on a daily basis when things don't go precisely the way he wants them to. he, fortunately, knows how to keep his lips sealed. the whishams have had a beautiful townhouse in central london for good three hundred years and a country house on a fifty-acre plot in somerset. in other words: the whishams are the crème de la crème of london. their family has seen its fair share of politicians, business men, lawyers, doctors, and freeloaders. arnold has always had ambition. he has always wanted to be a bit better than everyone around him. he always knew he was either going to become a politician or a business man. he chose business the second it became clear to him that he couldn't give a shit about the problems of regular citizens nor the intricacies of law and legislation. at least in business, you didn't work in the public eye. studying economics and business administration at the london business school was less about studying and more about establishing connections. arnold had a way of ranking people based on their usefulness to him. sometimes the right surname earned you a good number of points and sometimes just being funny and entertaining earned you the same amount. after graduation, arnold worked for his uncle's firm: a medium-sized publishing company. the work didn't entertain arnold in the slightest. the publishing sector was uneventful and arnold wasn't an avid reader. he couldn't distinguish good poetry from bad poetry — both seemed pretentious to him. he had a hard time believing the editors and the publishers whose opinion he had to trust when they were making big decisions. he left the company the second something better came along. the better that came along was an entertainment company. he actually stayed with the company for half a decade, climbing the corporate ladder. it took him two more companies before he started working at the bulletin corporation. first at the broadcasting company and a few years later at the bulletin sports. he liked the bulletin sports as a company. it was well structured and he could see great opportunities. within four years he was made the cfo of the bulletin sports. the title was one he wore proudly. it gave him power and influence. he could make big decisions, his word would be heard, he was a person people came to ask for permissions. he enjoyed his work greatly. this was back in 2020. the bulletin sports also introduced him to his future wife, an added bonus ! he genuinely thought he was going to stay with the company and aim for the ceo spot. he knew if he just gave it a bit of time and rubbed the right elbows, the position would fall into his lap. but... he got impatient and greedy. when the top dogs of comoedia and sportscast began courting him and the ceo position at sportscast was dangled in front of him, absolutely nothing stopped him from accepting the offer. it wasn't a cheap decision to him though. not only did it paint him as a villain at the bulletin corporation, it cause marital problems, and he received a boss from hell ( bernard ). but hey ! at least arnold made a lot of money and gets to call himself the boss ! he's been the ceo for two years now !

CAREER
lee jiae has always been thoroughly adept in keeping her head down, and working. truly working. she had been proud to continue in the family business, to represent her father and their family in all the ways that matter — not necessarily found in the society pages and arm-in-arm with a gaggle of famous friends, but a quiet force behind the scenes. sleepless nights discussing opportunities of expansion and potential deals to be made, she knows that numbers do not lie the way people do, and the only thing she truly trusts is the way black ink looks upon paper. one could always expect her emails to come from all hours of the night. the public could take her last name as it is; as the very reason for her position in the company and her rank amongst others, but those in the know understood that it is her relentless intelligence that makes her invaluable. jiae had always been comfortable in the thankless toil of neverending hard work. that is, until the matter of succession came to the forefront of her father's attention. jiae had never wanted acknowledgment for much — for it is always the numbers ( found in the company's stock value, in her own bank account, etc. ) that brought her pride and happiness. for the first time, jiae allowed herself to hope, to want something for once. surely, all her tireless hard work throughout the years should count for something ! but no. her older sister now wore the crown upon her brow, and the remnants of her own personal life ( something she always thought was a necessary sacrifice ) lay by the wayside. a broken marriage and a quiet house, a long career without anything to show for it — jiae must find it within herself to continue in her usual quiet toil under the command of her sister, instead of her father. or perhaps this time, she will finally allow herself to scream.
OTHER HCS
a very traditional middle child, tries her best to do what she's supposed to and to excel as much as she could. constantly trying to impress her dad.
married in her late twenties, both with high strung careers in media, two kids followed ( one boy, one girl ). however, things finally came ahead after many nights of taking their stresses out on each other, a quick and efficient divorce followed. it all happened just a month before her dad's untimely death.
joint custody with her husband, although the kids mostly stay with her, if only for their stability. they still live in their family home overlooking hyde park.
she tries very hard to please her parents, to the detriment of her own personal life and relationships. her relationship with her siblings are extremely complicated, despite how much she loves them, the feeling of inferiority still remains.
always a strong drinker, but she has been relying on it lately to cope.
and other things idk for now but we'll figure it out !

XAVIER HOBBART. the cto of jomeron. 28.
[ ! ] — it seems that [ xavier hobbart ] has entered the scene ! he looks exactly like [ taylor zakhar perez ]. this [ 28-year-old ] is the [ cto ] of [ jomeron ]. it’s a small wonder since he is known for being [ spontaneous + perceptive ] and [ reckless + irascible ]. he has been involved with the company for [ FIVE ] months. [ ISA | SHE + HER | 27 | GMT ]
— STATS
NAME: Xavier Hobbart D.O.B: 13th of July, 1996 HOMETOWN: London, UK HEIGHT: 183 cm / 6'1 GENDER: Cis man SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Bisexual MARITAL STATUS: Single CHILDREN: None OCCUPATION: CTO & founder @ Jomeron EDUCATION: BA English literature, MSt English (1900-present) ALMA MATER: Oxford
— BIOGRAPHY
Xavier was always unable to stick with a hobby: he gave polo, archery, fencing, football, rugby and swimming a try in elementary school. Piano, painting, French, book binding, Egyptology, Japanese, and basketball a try in middle school. Climbing, photographing, baking, tennis, golf, and hiking in try high school. Punting, classical singing, D&D, hurdling, and badminton a try during his university years. Nothing stuck. He's definitely jack of all trades, master of none. It wasn't that he wasn't intrigued or humoured by the hobbies, it was that there was always something cooler and more exciting to try. The only thing that he kept his interest in was programming.
One late evening on his laptop, he made the mistake of reading a Wikipedia page on artificial intelligence and another and another and another and another... and realized the morning sun had risen and he still hadn't had enough of the concept of artificial intelligence. He refused to stop until he understood everything there was to understand — it took him about four years to actually know almost everything. Another three to make something truly original and functional by himself.
Xavier has never needed to work to live. His father has made sure of it. But asking for a small loan of a million dollars (a joke) did not come easy when Xavier decided he wanted to found Jomeron. It took several conversations before he had his father convinced. Xavier is quite certain that he wore his father down rather than convinced but that didn't affect the outcome: he got his company and he got to make his own money off of his own creations. There was no greater feeling.
Jomeron is brand new and on a shaky foundation. Xavier doesn't care for the red tape that comes with having a company, and his English literature degree most certainly has not prepared him for the world of business. He gladly leaves 'the boring stuff' for his father. He knows how risky a move it is, but he's more concerned about developing Jomeron's products than keeping the fort up.
Xavier lacks ambition and he's hedonistic to a fault. He needs to be entertained 24/7 and never truly learned how to stay committed to one thing (as stated earlier). His father considers it a miracle that Xavier ever earned his Master's degree. It didn't happen without a few detours or in a timely manner but Xavier eventually graduated from Oxford. His main motivation was to get the hell away from Oxford. He was sick and tired of having to attend classes and living partly in Oxford and partly in London. Fortunately for Xavier, he's quite good with people. He's definitely a listener and not a showman, but most of the time the right question at the right time is all one needs. Xavier enjoys people wholeheartedly. He has a bad temper though, he goes from 0 to 100 very easily and he has burned a few bridges with his tantrums. Some people refuse to deal with his unpredictable nature and while he understands that it's his fault, he cannot control himself and he keeps repeating the same patterns. During those heated moments, everything feels justified.
Xavier has grown used to teasing from his family members and while he's good at laughing it off, it gnaws at him a bit. Jomeron is his one chance to prove to everyone, but mainly his father, that he's not a freeloader or a quitter.

schooling: massachusetts institute of technology
born and raised in istanbul. older brother to feyza and their two younger siblings. during his childhood and teen years, his life revolved around football. his dream just like every young boy his age was to be a football player until one christmas he was gifted a psp. he became obsessed with video games and no longer as infatuated with football.
later his interest grew to fascination. how were these games created? what goes into making a gaming console? how long does it take to create something like this?
once finding out what it required to become a game developer, he started taking school more seriously. it was a great surprise to his parents to find him excelling in his studies even though it was due to his obsession with video games. they couldn't tell him to reduce his playing time solely due to the fact he was getting amazing grades.
after university, his career was flourishing, working under companies like ubisoft, and EA who have all created his favourite games. — but just as thing were getting good, in 2014 he gets his situationship pregnant and he had just blown most of his money on contributing to the ethereum crowdfund and bitcoin, which had horrible returns for the rest of the year. he kept his situation hidden from his family. they didn't need to know.
two years later when feyza had approached him to invest into app-h inc., he was reluctant. now that he's responsible for a child, he's convinced he needed to take less risks. it wasn't responsible living a lifestyle of big rewards or big losses. although photograpp-h is doing amazing, it didn't guarantee app-h inc., would do well.
he came clean about the child and how he would have immediately agreed if it wasn't for the child. he didn't express his other concerns since it didn't seem relevant and he didn't want to pessimistic considering he wasn't in the position to lecture or give advice to his sister who was doing better than him.
with bitcoin crashing even more significantly in 2018, he was desperate for fast cash. he was doing well for himself, but not enough to maintain the lifestyle he created for himself and the lifestyle he's grown accustomed to. he reached out to his sister and asked if the offer was still on the table. feyza suggested he buy shares now that they were more established and she would trust him in that position rather than some fancy investor in a suffocating suit.
without much of a thought, he agreed. if this went to shit, he would put everything into a high interest savings account and never invest anything until he earned the amount he desires.
in the next two years everything moved so fast. app-h inc., was turning over a high profit, catching up to comoedia and the bulletin — and bitcoin reached an all time high ending the year at around 20k per bitcoin. with the amount of money he had, he didn't need to work anymore.
he left america and moved to london to be closer with his siblings. his involvement with app-h inc. increased. his position is merely an advisory role and helps with day to day production while coming and going as he pleases.

[ ! ] — it seems that [ park haneul ] has entered the scene ! he looks exactly like [ hyun bin ]. this [ 41 ] is the [ ceo ] of [ telagrapp-h ]. it’s a small wonder since he is known for being [ stalwart and loving ] and [ guarded and wounded ]. he has been involved with the company for [ 13 ] years.
name: park haneul age: 41 gender: cis man sexuality: bisexual birthday: may 16 height: 6' 1"
education: bs in computer science from oxford occupation: ceo of telagrapp-h hometown: busan, sk langues: english, korean
personality traits: stalwart, loving, guarded, wounded, focused, paranoid zodiac: taurus mbti: isfp
haneul's life and career as been marked by hard work and great luck. from oxford for computer science to a jobs at a series of major tech firms, he's put in the work to make his resume one worth looking at. the luck came in the form of lee inhye with her money and connection. haneul worked as long as he could until he knew he had a product worth building in chitchatter, then it was 2 tireless years of development and chasing after investors to put it on the market.
he's put his heart and soul into the app, he wouldn't let anyone take it for. after fending off tbc and comoedia in the early days, haneul sold chitchatter to app-h a few years ago and it was more difficult than he expected. he's protective of his product, taking the rebranding a little personally. but he's not going anywhere. app-h may own telegrapp-h but haneul is still in control and it's going to stay that way if it's the last thing he does.
headcanons:
family moved to london when he was 10
completely stupid over his wife, lee inhye
the idea that started it all "a character who's already wounded, bleeding out as we speak, innocence didn't die screaming it's staining the carpet in silence and no one seems to care"

— BIOGRAPHY —
born and raised in osaka. his father was estranged (read: disowned) by his parents for getting his mom pregnant before marriage so young. his parents did the best they could to provide for him but he was thankful for every little thing.
didn't have a computer of his own but was very passionate about technology, going so far as to go to libraries and internet cafes to learn everything he could himself. it helped a lot that he was very talkative and could pretty easily persuade people into giving him help when he needed it.
fast forward some years and yuki gets a college acceptance letter and an almost full ride to imperial college london in the computer science course. he doesn't expect it to be easy to move across the world to follow his passion, but he's excited nonetheless.
yuki works several retail jobs and gets a tech internship to help him through university. he meets dominic, a student from cambridge, at his internship and they hit it off pretty much immediately.
in his second year, yuki and his friends start fucking around with the prospect of creating an app for photo sharing. while some might not have thought it would ever amount to anything, yuki had a feeling deep down that this could be big. as proof for how much he believed in it, he dropped out of college (read: he failed out. stopped showing up for classes and didn't sit for exams.) when he realized the app he and his friends were working on could be everything he wanted and more.
some call yuki a savant, a natural born programmer, but those who actually know him are aware that compared to people in silicon valley, he's not even average. the best thing is that he doesn't have to be. the success of app-h has part to do with raw genius, part to do with vigilant leadership. yuki stepped up as ceo when the time called for it because it was the right thing to do. after all, he was the most passionate for the company and by far the most charismatic, able to connect with anyone and everyone with ease.
2016 is a big year: it's the year that app-h is conceived and that yuki and dominic get married. it's a low-key thing (the marriage, not app-h. app-h is a fucking celebration), just going to court and signing papers with a couple friends as witnesses.
yuki is still in touch with his family back in osaka, and he finds it funny that estranged and extended family only seem to call when his name is in another article. he may be magnanimous, but he is not stupid. he returns each call and message with a thank you and hangs up before money can be asked for. they abandoned his family when they were at their lowest, why should yuki extend a hand back their way?
[ TW : CAR ACCIDENT, DEATH OF A SPOUSE ] in 2022, dominic is in a car wreck that takes his life. he was on his way to a conference that yuki was speaking at to show off what new things app-h was releasing in the coming year. yuki blames himself for it, as he had been texting dominic at the moment asking him how far away he was / when he'd be there / if he was planning on coming at all. they'd been going through a rough patch because yuki was dedicating more time to work, and less on everything else. [ TW OVER ]
yuki is always moving, always talking to someone or reading another email or brainstorming the takeover of the next new thing. there is no time for him to stew in his accomplishments or his grief. in fact, he avoids all time alone however possible, especially recently. he cannot become complacent. he must always continue to reach for his next unachievable goal. he must not let this one last thing which he has slip from his grasp.
there are times when he contemplates how his career would have went if photograpp-h didn't find the success it did, or even if he hadn't dropped out. each time, he comes to the same conclusion: he'd be back home, suffocated with the weight of not being able to do enough to support his family. despite the pain of moving across the world, coming to london was the best decision he made, second to making the friends he created app-h with. he calls and visits home when he can, but the visits are becoming far and few between with the increased hours he's spending in the office. he practically lives there now, something that's quite easy considering the couch on the far side of the large office is actually a futon. it's much easier to do that than return to an empty home each night.
is app-h / yuki poaching people from other companies? maybe. mind your own business. he's coping.

it took a lot of convincing, but in the end his parents were okay with the idea once they all agreed he would pursue a career in finance. it sounded boring, dreadful, but numbers made sense to him. this would be easier than med school. this small change made him feel he had some control over his life. yes, it was a bit delusional to think so since his parents had still made the choice of what other career he would pursue, but it still felt like a win.
his father had already secured a job for him after completing his schooling. he would be forced to work at his family friends company, the bulletin corporation. he learned everything he needed to know directly under simon lee. he was quick to become a favourite. he remained loyal to the company for twenty years. he assumed his loyalty would be enough, but once simon had passed and inhye was announced as the new ceo, his pride took a massive hit, he felt betrayed, insecure and unsure of what he wanted to do going forward.
he doesn't know what his life would be like without the bulletin corporation. the idea of finding a new job terrifies him ( but he'd never admit it ) and so he remains indifferent, passive, sort of accepts things for the way they are for now. he's trying not to be resentful or think too emotionally about it.
( sorry for this short and bad intro. i am rushing this fhgsdshjdgf)

𝘛𝘏𝘌 𝘒𝘐𝘕𝘎 𝘐𝘚 𝘋𝘌𝘈𝘋 . 𝘓𝘖𝘕𝘎 𝘓𝘐𝘝𝘌 𝘛𝘏𝘌 𝘒𝘐𝘕𝘎 .
FULL NAME . samira chandra NICKNAME(S) / ALIAS(ES) / TITLE(S) . sam. the kingmaker. OCCUPATION . board member, active ( comoedia ). major shareholder of vka insurance, active. AGE . thirty - four ( 34 ) GENDER + PRONOUNS . cis woman, she + her ORIENTATION . heterosexual, kinsey 1
TRIGGER WARNINGS . illness, death, parental toxicity.
there are those who sit on thrones, and those who live in the velvet curtains behind them. there are many gilt seats throughout the world, each of varying weight, but only so many hands built for gripping tender red strings. vakish chandra has the hands for threads. he has the palms built to hold a throat.
an émigré tycoon that would eventually set up financial giant KVA Insurance, vakish's career would be silently earmarked not by KVA's accomplishments, but what he was able to do for others — and for the exorbitant fee it cost. it would be his and kva's place as shareholder and board members in numerous businesses that would turn the businessman both internationally sought after & notorious.
in the 80s, the financial times puts out an article that would pull vakish from behind the curtains by publishing meet the kingmaker, an exploratory if not sharp-cornered piece on the finance tycoon that detailed his influence in both american and british political spectrums, along with KVA Insurance's history of propping up change of powers, or new CEOs, in megacorporations they had invested in. though the piece was in many lights scathing, indicting vakish for questionable business practices, the notoriety only bolstered what everyone knew: where vakish chandra went, prosperity followed.
and who else lives behind the velvet, near to the gilt and the glory yet so far away, but a daughter? what is a daughter but the echo of her father, pacing in a place unseen?
samira chandra is born late. as a babe she arrives with all the technical flourish of punctuality, her mother going into labour on the precise date of expectancy, but the truth is that's too late in the grand scheme. her father is already old, hardened, past the place where a beautiful young wife can soften him with the promise of a new family. she's born anyway. punctual. stubborn.
she grows in the shadow of godhood, her mother only a supplicant on the path of the dual idolatry and hatred that her father inspired. his little shadow, his hound. samira paces the length of their estate in a newly cleaned dress, trailing after the titans of industry congregated in a huddle, learning their language the way a youth should slang. she winds up her teachers in legalise by the time she's eight, keeps financial market coverage in the background as she does homework from ages twelve to eighteen.
did she ever love it? certainly not. but devotion to god is more than love. greater, broader, filled with more ecstatic pain. samira loved her father to the point of destruction, that much is true. she loved him enough to devote her life to him, and to devour him in turn.
at only twenty-two, barely more than a fresh ivy-league grad, vakish suffers a stroke that leaves him in a state of partial paralysis, and with rapidly decreasing verbal ability. he refuses to release his fist on the industry, and so accommodations are made: the once-indomitable kingmaker will need an aid, an interpreter. who better suited than his own blood, who could want nothing more than the prosperity of their familial empire? samira, twenty-two, becomes his proxy. she becomes a god by substitution. comoedia meets her this way in the boardroom, standing young and cool and hungry at the side of her father.
there was only ever one way for it to happen: at first she interpreted his mutterings earnestly, with the zeal of a disciple. among all her technical decrees she becomes an expert in body language, whisper, intention. eventually vakish loses more capacity, and what is lost in his voice sam replaces with intuition. she knows him because she is of him, because they are the same. conjoined. her head bends to quiet lips and rises once more, my father says...
god shrinks a little more. his body weakens, unable to withstand the long trips to foreign places. god's daughter goes alone, armed with the knowledge of what has been discussed. but every delegation requires improvisation, a new solution to a new problem. so god's daughter speaks for herself in these places, with her own mind. each time beginning the same way: what my father would want...
eventually god looks entirely different. he has sharp honey eyes and long, dark hair combed through with rosemary oil. he has a new name. he wears dark dresses and laughs, wicked, in the face of the world. he bends down to himself, listening to words that are not there, the arhythmic in-and-out of ragged breathing. he closes his eyes as if to listen, and then rises again. he looks like his daughter. she speaks a new kind of brilliance. she loves her previous self, but what is old must be left behind. that is not what we want.
in 2019, vakish chandra passes away from cardiac complications. the chandra family retains majority stock in vka insurance, selling less fruitful subsidiaries and selling shareholds under daughter samira's direction. at comoedia, her father's last great investment, she is elected the new board member in representation of vka. a role she has already possessed in shadow for a decade.
2022, the new york times publishes an article, samira's face filling the red-line frame: the new kingmaker.
CHARACTER INSPIRATIONS . sandi furness, succession. siobhan roy, succession. lady macbeth, macbeth. marylin, intolerable cruelty. talia al ghul, dc. hildy johnson, his girl friday. elizabeth sloane, miss sloane.

[ ✦ ] 𝙻𝙾𝙰𝙳𝙸𝙽𝙶 . . . . backstory.
bruce was born in yeongam county, south jeolla province, south korea. before he could walk his parents decided to immigrate to los angeles, california. his dad was an un-unionized construction worker ; whose alcohol & gambling addiction ruined his chances of creating a functioning business & allowing his family to escape poverty. his mother was a housekeeper , nanny , or whatever her wealthy clients wanted her to be.
given that his parents were largely absent throughout his entire childhood his grandmother raised him. from a young age bruce was known as the kid who never took a chance. he lived modestly & made the most of whatever hand he was dealt in life. great academics & a solid social life his lack of ambition to run for class president foreshadowed bruce’s disinterest in having power. far more comfortable with working with his peers rather than competing against them he was a natural born leader & destined for something better.
bruce worked the majority of his life & a sizeable chunk of his income was taken by his father under the guise that it was being used for something beneficial. despite the remorse bruce’s father felt for taking his teenage son’s 8.50 an hour paychecks ; his insecurity for being unable to provide for his family triumphed any inkling of remorse. this put a strain on the already exhausted family --- especially a young bruce.
when bruce graduated he was placed in an awkward position. much like any young man his age he had hubris. but the college experience was reserved for those who had the luxury to afford it. to his luck, his status as a star-pitcher on his hs' baseball team earned him a ticket to college. despite the promise of a great future, he kept his job while his father began to collect unemployment. his grandmother passed before witnessing her grandson accomplishing greatness, it inspired bruce to do better.
after completing his college education, bruce spent four seasons in the cubs' minor league. four years later, he made his major league debut when he was scouted by the los angeles angels, where he won rookie of the year. bruce reached stardom when he was traded to the los angeles dodgers, playing as both a pitcher and a hitter. ingratiating himself into the cultural zeitgeist of sports, bruce became a talking point both nationally and internationally.
he retired relatively early in his career due to injury. however, bruce remained active in the sports world by participating in commentating for several years. he accumulated a great deal of wealth as a player but largely through business ventures. the lee family patriarch invested early in bruce's career, regarding him as a symbol of korean excellence. bruce learned a great deal from the former ceo of bulletin corp and inherited several pieces of wisdom that allowed him to graduate in the business realm.
despite all the successes, bruce's life never began to "shape up." his mother refused to quit her job, his father shockingly denied any financial help. then, out of the blue, his wife decides to file for divorce. his mother finally quit her job and moved in to help fill that void. it doesn’t work. bruce buries himself in project after project. even so, he refuses to become absent from his children’s lives. his presence is known at each recital, spelling bee, and pta meeting. he didn’t want to become his father and, more importantly, he didn’t want his children to feel the absence of their mother.

soren has the same old 'poor kid makes it in life against all odds by working his ass off' backtory. lower class mother, two siblings ( he's the middle one ), an amazing track record in school and no belief in meritocracy whatsoever. even today, when most would view him as a product of it, soren would likely punch you in your throat if you attempt to tell him that's all one needs to sit among the ones who were born with golden dummies to suck on. he was nothing but an exception, his family was the rule. his life up until university was uneventful: he enjoyed studying, likes knowledge and is the type of man to always have a fun fact to sprinkle on a conversation when given the chance. he likes knowing people, their interests, what captures their attention and how that translates into the way they do business. it was no wonder marketing was his selected field. he attended warwick university worked in a restaurant for the first two years of it to afford his living in coventry when he's from york. the last two years he was fortunate enough to find a paid internship. in some much smaller local business but an opportunity is an opportunity. after university he moved to birmingham, expecting that a metropolitan area would make it easier to find job opportunities that wouldn't only allow him to eat three meals a day. he was wrong, though, the best he could do there was freelance work for some more known companies but no stability. still, that lasted three years before his decision to finally make his way down to london in 2011. somehow he found a job at hsbc, where he stayed for nine years. working for a bank provided all the financial stability he had been looking for ever since leaving york. it was 2017 the first time he ever heard about app-h inc. and it peaked his interest, but that was the extent of it. it had only been around for a year and some companies vanish as quick as they appear. he wasn't about to risk his new found ground to walk a tightrope. it was also in 2017 that he met his now wife. and he knew from day one that she would be his forever without a shadow of doubt, it was that easy. however, his wife comes from wealth and it has always been the thing to set them apart. it wasn't a problem per se, just a major difference between them. but she was down to earth and understanding, there was nothing else he needed. until, of course, 2021. app-h buys chitchatter and does a huge rebranding not only on the app ( now telegrapp-h ), but on the inner workings of the company as well. it was the perfect time now. app-h inc. was now a consolidated company, a major one at that, and the midst of a merging is the perfect time to apply for a position. cmo could seem like trying to reach for the stars with an olive branch but he had nothing to lose. and so he gained everything. the position is now his and he feels like it is always on the line, so he has to fight with tooth and nails to keep it, even if it's costing him his marriage and he's too blinded by his own accomplishment to see it.

𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐏𝐇𝐘
having everything handed to you since birth tends to shape one's personality in a way most would not find appropriate. bernard wasn't even born and people were already certain that would be the case with him. mostly because the alderidge name was well known in the country and perhaps even outside of it thanks to his grandfather. his family had been in there for centuries without a quarter of the prestige they'd acquired once the comoedia corporation had been founded, you couldn't possibly blame bernard for believing the means justify the end in this particular case. it is a family thing: the alderidge moral compass has been tampered from that day forward. no one was exactly wrong for assuming he'd grow to be the personification of what's wrong with society, they were however wrong about how he'd carry himself in relation to it. bernard doesn't walk around with his nose pointing to the sky, expecting all to bow at his presence. he'd shared most of his school years with members of nobility and lower ranking royals, it made him a bit aware of his surroundings. not enough to call him humble when humility comes from hardship and he's never experienced any, but enough to give him the image of a down-to-earth man. he attended business school because it was the logical thing to do. there wasn't a part of bernard that rejected the idea of inheriting the family business one day, so he took on the role as soon as he was allowed to. summer internships at comocorp or any of their subsidiaries, shadowing his mother and grandfather at meetings, existing entirely for the job until finally getting a degree so nobody could say he was an inexperienced boy who only got the job because of family ties and nepotism. because a degree might speak volumes but for him it was just theory, when he'd had the practice part running through his veins. you wouldn't believe just how easy it was for him to mold the student body of london business school to his liking: bernard's persuasion is only strong because he's likeable. a charmer. flirtatious but only enough for you to wonder if it was truly flirting or that's just his personality. because if he is, in fact, interested, you will know. that's another thing he's good at: he's a chatter, loves being surrounded by people and deep in conversation about any and every topic, so holding back on speaking even if it's about his own feelings and desires isn't his style. and half of london would be able to tell you that as well. with everyone at comoedia it isn't any different, he charms and charms until you're unable to refuse him anything. some might see right through it, bust most are blinded by the idea of the ceo's son acting like he is there to serve them when they expected it to be the other way around. which is exactly how he gets it to be just that way, without others feeling like they're being explored or played. he doesn't believe it makes him a bad person, just a tactical one. being the oldest of four with such space between the birth of each of his siblings made him used to sudden and complete change. and maybe it is what makes bernard so used to being among a crowd, since he were five he didn't know what it was to be alone neither did he remember anything before barron. he considers silence a form of torture, so much so that he might even ask brooke to give him a run down of her latest endeavours. or worse, he'll start blabbing about his own. he could have whichever position he'd liked under his own mother's in the company, everyone expected him to jump to have coo written on his office's door, but there's little greed in his heart for any other role when he's aware that the top one is in his future. a board member is just what he needs to be. he has a say, a vote, eyes and ears on every negotiation and decision, without having to do too much of the heavy lifting just yet. it is perfect.

intro under the cut / musings / threads
BASICS.
full name: maurice lyle davenport age: 50 date of birth: july 31st, 1973 place of birth: new york city, usa current location: london, england gender: cis man pronouns: he&him sexuality: gay occupation: ceo of the bulleting broadcasting company education level: english & business degrees from oxford ; has a background in journalism living arrangements: loft financial status: wealthy spoken languages: english, french, german
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE.
faceclaim: michael ealy hair color and style: black, cut short eye color: blue eyesight: wears contacts height: 5′11 body and build: muscular, lean tattoos: none piercings: none clothing style: business casual but more on the business side; loves a well-tailored suit
PERSONALITY.
positive traits: ambitious, confident, witty, charming negative traits: disloyal, bossy, impulsive, two-faced, obnoxious
maurice is generally very full of himself, thinking he’s the most important person in the room; charismatic and charming, always getting what he wants and when he doesn’t, it means war; enjoys spending money, shit talking and causing drama. don’t invite him to a dinner party, he’ll ruin it.
FAMILY, RELATIONSHIPS.
mother: ava davenport father: theodore osborne significant other: husband exes: ex-husband sibling(s): half-sister and half-brother children: — extended family: — pet(s): —
BACKGROUND.
maurice’s father, theo, walks out on him and his mother, ava, soon after he's born; with the man being a high-profile figure in media it's clear that he isn't going to acknowledge a child that came out of an affair with a woman ten years his junior. ava decides she isn't going to try and change theo’s mind. she eventually decides to stay in london (chosen over both ava’s and maurice’s place of birth, nyc) with one of her brothers; maurice is two so he knows england as his only home
his mom never really mentions his father and maurice doesn't make a fuss about it; he goes on to have a pretty comfortable life, both because he’s always been hardworking and because his uncle and his mother know the right people that manage to set him up with plenty of opportunities; his uncle married rich and maurice got to take advantage of it—private school and university are all paid for and maurice gets set up with a job right after graduation.
he goes into journalism; low-ranking at first but slowly and surely he builds up towards an editor at the guardian. would have been a deputy editor, for sure, if it weren't for a snitch and a couple complaints about journalistic misconduct. a few years into an impressive(ish) career, he gets demoted, fired eventually, an expensive divorce gets thrown into the mix as well, which sends maurice into an insane mid-life crisis at 37.
the divorce takes forever and drains maurice's account; he gets a settlement and some assets eventually but by the time he signs the last piece of paper, he's kind of broke. he never learned how to dial down and stop living beyond his means and it gets so bad he becomes desperate. if anyone asks, it's a different davenport editing those shit, waste-of-paper tabloids. that's not him. definitely not him. he's a serious person. but money is money, right?
the cherry on top of maurice's life trials and turbulations is the sudden desire to reconnect with his birth-father. he's only ever got bits and pieces, his mother always refused to share and so he hired someone to get the truth for him. a father, a half-sister and a half-brother, the files he receives tell him. maurice never expected to get this far when he decided to search for his birth-father, he expected a few conversations, maybe an apology and that was about it. instead, he gets a personalised invitation to the world he once upon a time has been desperately trying to claw into. things find you when you stop running after them.
writing for shitty tabloids and gossip columns is no more and maurice’s ability to spin stories is finally being taken seriously. not everyone, obviously; maurice is a wild card pulled out of thin air who only has the freshly-formed relationship with his father to back him up. it was a controversial decision to give him some elaborate, six-figure title the second he showed up at the company but the ceo does what the ceo wants. maurice really won the daddy issues lottery here. abandoned as a child? don’t worry, you’ll get the company as a big i’m sorry gift when you grow up.
he works alongside his father and his half-siblings. eventually theo announces he's stepping down and needs a new ceo—shocks many people with his choice. the decision to appoint maurice as the ceo was a surprise to many, especially his half-siblings; he wasn’t the one who grew up with the company, he wasn't the one who experienced the quote-unquote family business, he was a bastard child who showed up out of the blue a decade ago, smiled, sold everyone on his bullshit and cemented himself as the guy who gets things done. that’s also why his taking over made perfect sense; his father needed maurice for the charisma, the charm, the wit—and the guts to be able to sacrifice anything and sell out anyone to get ahead.
it’s only the beginning of maurice’s reign, just a little over two years of him acting as the ceo, but he feels secure—almost too secure—in his position as the head of the company. are there people who would like to dethrone him? absolutely. does he care? not at all<3
WANTED CONNECTIONS.

Victoria, the eldest child of the Duke of Westminster, was born into immense wealth, yet knew the title would elude her due to an archaic tradition favoring male heirs. Determined to forge her own path and prove herself superior, Victoria became an overachiever from a young age. Mastering piano, fencing, tennis, polo – everything expected of a true heir – she consistently excelled, topping her class and proving her capabilities. Her world shifted when her brother was born. Her father's mentorship, previously focused on her, dwindled as he began grooming his son for the dukedom. This ignited a fire within Victoria. Fueling her with a desire to build her own empire, she threw herself into academics, earning a prestigious degree in Global Affairs and Economics from Cambridge. With internships under her belt, she landed a coveted position at Comoedia Broadcasting Company, a highly respected media conglomerate. There, Victoria defied expectations. While scaling the corporate ladder, she simultaneously pursued a Master's in Project Management and International Business at Oxford. Rumors swirled as she became engaged to Barron, a board member's son and potential heir to the company. Yet, Victoria saw it differently. In her eyes, she chose Barron, not the other way around. All while working tirelessly, a yearning for an independent empire simmers beneath the surface. Victoria's ambition knows no bounds, and she's determined to achieve greatness on her own terms, building a legacy that transcends her aristocratic background.

what happens when an over-achiever oldest child has to decide between following in his father's or in his mother's footsteps ? well he chooses both, of course ! orson's father is a lawyer, so of course orson went to law school. orson's mother is a executive producer, so of course he specialized in commercial law.
orson always felt like he needed to be the best at everything he did. his parents praised him when he got straight a's, and those moments were his favourite. his parents were demanding but they weren't cold by any means. orson only heard the word 'proud' when some sort of an accomplishment had happened. 'love' and 'dear' were littered everywhere, which is the reason why they meant less. love was unconditional, respect and appreciation were not.
orson's pragmatic view on life shows in the way he conducts himself. he's polite and tries to be charming and likable, but most of the time he's impatient to get to the point and blurts out what he thinks is the obvious solution. these small social faux pas get ignored because he sits up straight, pronounces his words properly, and appears in control of himself and of the situation. it's not unusual for people to feel unnerved in orson's presence because he's not one for unnecessary chitchatting and only smiles occasionally. in the beginning it felt like a problem to be fixed but the higher he climbed the corporate ladder, the more it began to seem like a strength. the harshness appears in professional settings, when he's out and about, he doesn't shy away from jokes and laughing.
orson started at comoedia brodcasting company twelve years ago. he was not meant to stay with the company, he just needed something on his resume. he wanted to become a serious lawyer, maybe have his own firm, and in order to have that he needed clients.
being an in-house lawyer wasn't glamorous but orson found himself enjoying the reasonable work hours and the lack of competition. after two years he felt almost home at comoedia brodcasting company. it was when he decided he wanted to become irreplaceable at cbc.
he has dedicated his whole adult life to work. he got an additional degree in business administration some years ago just to have solid proof that he has the skills and the drive to be something great at cbc.
orson was offered the ceo position three years ago. he did not need to think twice before saying yes. now that he has reached the highest level there is, what is left is to make cbc the best broadcasting company in britain. in other words, the bulletin broadcasting company and dulaan need to be taken out of the competition !

her way or the high way. that is all there is to nafisa. she doesn't work too much but when she does, it happens because of a bout of inspiration. during these phases, nothing is stopping her: she gets impatient, she wants results immediately, she doesn't have the patience to wait for email responses, she finds the work ethic of everyone else lacking. it's the sort of behaviour that causes a horrid environment. it's the main reason she has decided to just stick to being on the board of visual x. she has opinions and she wants the best for the company but she is not a team player.
nafisa was a sharp kid, and her first ten years of schooling were a piece of cake. her study method relied heavily upon stress factors — last minute cramming and lots of all-nighters. the problem with having a good memory is that it allows you to grow into a backboneless adult. university was hell. last minute studying was not the answer. quick and easy fixes did not exist for every challenge. nafisa barely survived her five years at the university of edinburgh. she graduated with a fairly useless degree in digital arts. a degree that her upper-middle class parents paid for. a degree that led her to her future business partner.
a year before her graduation nafisa put all of her efforts into networking. networking for her meant going to the coolest events she could just get into, drinking champagne she could not afford, and talking to anyone who would listen to her youthful and naive thoughts. one warm august evening, she sat at the right table at the right time.
her future business partner was going over the work opportunity that had presented itself just some weeks ago. the issue ? there was no team to handle the work load. the word 'work' sounded awfully good to a poor, parent-dependent ( technically art ) student. nafisa jumped at the opportunity. convinced the other that she was what was missing and she was willing to put in hours.
the ad campaign they worked on was their first project together. it was what convinced them that they could keep going as a duo. as nafisa was finishing her studies, her business partner kept looking for new projects. after their fourth project together, a large project they couldn't handle together forced them to expand. they created visual x and hired a handful of people to work for them.
money breeds greed. the company kept growing in surges: the company would accept a project that was too big for their capacity at the time, they'd hire new people to complete the project, they'd realize the temps needed to become a permanent part of their employee list, and not much later the same pattern would be repeated. but growth cannot happen infinitely.
in 2023, after six fruitful years of growth and wealth, visual x had a dry season. no projects came up, their expertise was not needed, and the money stopped pouring in. they had their first massive lay-offs. nafisa had never experienced such great a failure and she felt absolutely gutted. she felt bad for the employees but mainly she felt like her luck had ran out and she was going to lose everything they had worked for. it took her two months to become properly functional again. during those two months app-h had begun to circle visual x like a vulture.
some would consider app-h the saviour. nafisa will begrudgingly admit that without app-h inc. there would not be the visual x that exists at the moment, but nafisa dislikes being dependent on app-h. under app-h, visual x never runs out of projects. dulaan is their main source of revenue.
nafisa feels like she and her co-founder are no longer in control despite the co-founder acting as the ceo and nafisa on the board of the company. they still have to answer to the big bosses of app-h inc.
