           ‘ YEAH , WELL , BAD NEWS :  YOU’RE AWAKE. ’    though she definitely wishes he was dreaming. if he can see the creepy woman in the corner ,  that means she’s drawing power from somewhere, and percy doesn’t think it’s from her. she’d know if it was, would feel the steady drain on her body—and she doesn’t.  and if this ghost isn’t drawing power from somewhere, she’s much too big and bad for percy to handle.  ‘ does she look solid to you ?  ‘cause they all look solid to me. ’   this isn’t how she pictured richie finding out that she can see ghosts, but hey ! could be worse !  maybe !    and then it does get worse :  the woman’s head twitches ,  somehow managing to convey the effect that she’s staring at them even though her face is shrouded in shadow.  percy jolts , grabbing richie’s arm.  ‘  fuck—okay, i suggest that we slowly back away, ‘cause if you can see her i don’t think i’ve got what it takes to make her fuck off. ’

            ‘ I FEEL BAD FOR THE WALL, ’   percy says without looking up from her laptop screen, though she reaches out with slender fingers to grab hold of his shirt before he can stand up and ( quite literally ) run with the bit.  ‘ no—good bit, though, i appreciate your dedication to the craft—but don’t get up. i think i’m getting somewhere. ’   she stares at the empty word document for a moment, then:   ‘ maybe. or maybe i just don’t want to be left alone to my writer’s block when you take the easy way out and turn yourself into a vegetable. selfish , i know——actually , could that be something ?  like, uh . . . ’    she finally looks at richie ,  wiggling her fingers as she tries to find the right words with which to frame her thought.   ‘ like , a guy’s wife finds out he’s had a secret family this entire time ,  and to get out of the situation he does . . .  something , i don’t know what yet , and it makes him comatose ?  and now his two families have to learn to coexist as they ,  like ,  fight over whether or not to pull the plug and also who gets the vacation home in the hamptons ? ’
