Caveat that I'm not Catholic and know nothing about saints, but I have heard some people who grew up in it say that when they were kids they got really into the saints, and would I guess assign? ones to their family members, specific saints that they would pray to for a specific person.

Do you think Sam would do this for John and Dean, maybe Bobby as well, and who do you think would be for each?

oh my god i love this so so much!! i would just like to preface this with the fact that i am no longer a practicing catholic, so i am just going off of practices that i remember from when i was younger :) if i get something wrong please let me know!! i'm going to fit in a keep reading bar here because this turned out to be very long & i don't want to make someone who isn't interested in saints scroll too much <3

essentially, people tend to pray to the saint that is the patron of the thing they are struggling with. for example, when my mom can't find her car keys, she usually says a prayer to st. anthony in the hopes that he'll help her find them. while i have never necessarily "assigned" a person a saint, if someone i knew was going through something that was related to a particular saint, i would pray to that saint, if that makes sense. so i really love the idea of sam doing that for the people that he loves & it just ending up being pretty much the same saint every time to the point where it is like he has assigned them that saint (and him also finding comfort in that consistency.)

i'll do john first because i think he's relatively the easiest in this case. there are two¹ options that really stand out to me - st. joseph the worker and st. george, who are both considered saints of protection². st. joseph is known for being the protector of family (and, more obviously, the patron saint of fathers) and i do love the idea of, despite his complicated relationship with john, him praying to the patron saint of both of those. st. george is also a good option - he's the patron saint of soldiers and is prayed to for the defeat of good over evil (or smth to that extent), which i think could be extra applicable if john is out on a hunt and sam is particularly worried.

dean is much harder because there's SO much going on there between them that i don't think just one saint can capture. i think the ones that really stood out for me were st. george and st. christopher. st. george for the same reasons as john - protection during a hunt & the viewing of dean's role especially as a solider. i think i like the idea of praying to st. christopher just a little bit more though. he's the patron saint of traveling (especially for people who travel by car) and i think sam would use that as a way to tie in the impala and how they kind of view it as their home. the car/traveling is so intristic to the way that they live that i think he could kind of just view st. christopher as an overall protecter of their family in the way that st. joseph can be. so a combination of george & christopher i think.

bobby³ is also kind of hard and maybe this is too obvious/not exciting enough but i do like the idea of sam praying to gabriel for him. he's the angel of messengers and i think bobby kind of fits into that role of guidance for them. (this would probably only be early-seasons/before gabriel's identity is revealed though.)

also i would just like to add that, even though she is not a saint, i do think that sam would consistently pray to mary (winchester) and would view her in a similar way to the way one might view a saint. to him, she is essentially like the patron saint of their family and he would pray to her in that way.

¹ i didn't include st. michael for john because he's typically more associated with defeating the devil specifically vs. st. george who's more focused on the concept of warriors & defeating evil in general :)

² i also didn't include any patron saints of hunting, only because it makes more sense to me for sam to be praying for protection during the achievement, rather than just overall accomplishment. also in spn, it seems like hunters consider themselves to be more like soldiers/warriors than the traditional animal hunter so i don't know if sam would really find them applicable anyways.

³ i don't know for sure if sam would pray for bobby prior to s1/when they become close again, but i definitely think bobby reaches that level of closeness during canon, if not before.

👕 17. What are your character’s thoughts on wearing costumes?

I think he'd find it fun as hell. I think he'd like to run around and fuck around with people in-character, even moreso if he can get others (either his partners/ friends or his brothers in RGBFv) in on the bit. He's a playful little shit there's no way in hell he's passing up the chance to get a little goofy. A bit silly, even.

📦 11. What might an acquaintance think is a good gift for your character?

Fuuckkk an acquaintance specifically? Probably would default to anything music-themed, like keychains with music notes/ shaped like mics/ etc. or similar trinket-y stuff. Could also see people getting him fucking. Tech Decks. I think he comes off as a guy who would fucking love Tech Decks (cannot remember if this is something stated in canon or if I'm just inferring from fan content I've seen) and it's a very correct assumption. I think video gives Beef energy (the other two ppl in my mind would be Pico and Darnell Of Course bHABHFHAA).

📦 17. What is most important to your character when shopping?

I think it's function over anything, though also in saying that this guy would be so fucking tempted to buy a bunch of small stuff he Does Not Need cuz they look goofy as hell. But say he's specifically sticking to what he needs to get, he goes for what works the best; preferably keeping the cost pretty low, too. <- worries less about the cost when dating GF cuz Yaknow. Dad's Money. But still prioritize what'd get the job done over going for expensive stuff.

🍽️ 16. Is there a food texture your character doesn’t like?

I don't think so ??? Bringing back my describing him as a human vacuum; as long as it's not a weird texture bc part of his food's gone bad, I don't think he'd care. He strikes me as more of a "flavor matters to me more than texture" guy anyway.

💓 7. Is your character good at practicing self-care?

Ah Ha Ha

I don't think he'd be the worst at it, he wouldn't neglect himself per se & would be leagues better at it than Pico would be in comparison, but he's definitely not the Best at it. Isolates when he feels bad and feels like he just needs to Get Over It instead of actually addressing what's upsetting him. Would rather pretend nothing's wrong instead of worrying others "unnecessarily", when he can take care of it himself. And by "take care of it himself" he means "bottle it up and go back to pretending I've never felt bad in my life".

my dear Harper's story begins right after the events of The Giggle! Harper Spiel is a 26-year-old ludologist, or games specialist: a former world champion in several board games who turned their fascination with games into a lucrative career. previously they worked with the British government investigating high-profile gambling rings and other criminal operations which involved gameplay mechanics! 👀

following The Giggle, UNIT wanted to find out all they could about the Toymaker, and so they hired Harper to create a full report on him...against The Doctor's wishes, and without his knowledge. during their research, Harper discovers that the Toymaker is not an isolated incident: he has cropped up in gaming lore and texts throughout history as a godlike entity no one can win against. most people would steer well clear...but Harper takes this as a challenge 🔥 so, they begin a series of experiments with the Toymaker's Toybox. Harper spends weeks trying to engage the Toymaker without opening the box, attempting to coax him into a game, but comes up short. until they have a mad idea! on their birthday, Harper brings a sand timer to the Toybox, and challenges the Toymaker to emerge before the sand runs out. they have no way of knowing if the game is accepted... until a bang!! then, a flash of light...and the vague image of a grin with far too many teeth, beaming through the fog. when Harper awakes, they are no longer in their own timeline. they are in 1984, in an empty lot where the UNIT building hasn't even been constructed yet! 😱 it takes a few days for the Doctor - specifically the Sixth Doctor - to find Harper, and it's because the TARDIS has become absolutely fixated on London in 1984 and he can't work out why. this leads him to Harper, who the Doctor recognises as a temporal anomaly: a living entity displaced in time who should not be able to exist in this reality, but has been rejected by their own. according to the Doctor, Harper's birthday - originally March 22nd, 1998 - is now March 22nd, 1956...which would make them 65 years old according to their original reality!! if not...that means they're minus 40 💀 the Doctor, horrified by this mess, takes Harper into the TARDIS and tries to bring them back to 2024...but the TARDIS nearly implodes! he then tries every workaround he knows, but something about the game Harper opened up with the Toymaker has caused their own timeline to shun them. like it or not, the only safe place for Harper to exist (at least without increasing timey-wimey shenanigans) is within the TARDIS 😉 so!! Harper gets stuck with the Sixth Doctor, to his chagrin and their delight. Harper is familiar with the Doctor, but only his most recent regenerations, and they take delight in playing off his bombastic, arrogant personality. they're always getting stuck into some part of the TARDIS they shouldn't be, or wandering off and nearly causing a category 5 space-time event. they're a magnet for disaster and time distortion, and it drives the Doctor mad! 🙈 but as funny as their relationship is, there is real grief here. the Doctor soon recognises Harper to be somewhat like him: a scientist whose fascination often overrides their emotions, so the process of understanding that they will never see their friends again (as they have no family to speak of) is tough. it doesn't take long for the Doctor to soften towards Harper...after all, Harper is something which the universe itself is trying to reject. who can relate more to that than the Sixth Doctor, whose regeneration was characterised by fear, anger and feeling like an alien in his own body? aaaand that's Harper Spiel!! unwitting companion to the Sixth Doctor and challenger of the Toymaker 🥰 their adventures would be characterised by them attempting to find some way back to Harper's original timeline safely, with Harper insisting they need to find the Toymaker to make it happen...😭

Guess who’s doing whumptober this year? (You don’t have to guess, it’s me)

I feel like I may have mentioned this already? But I don’t remember exactly and even if I did, I don’t think it was it’s own dedicated post. But now it is! Yay!

Without further ado, I introduce to you:

The Forgotten Heirs

The main whumpy aspects it shall feature are: child neglect (mostly just mentions in the story and no physical or verbal abuse), sibling caretaker and whumpee, caretaker-turned-whumpee, whumpee-turned-caretaker, underground/secret slavery, dehumanization, multiple whumpers, fantasy racism, royal BS, starvation.

Here is our two main characters, Eric and Blair Dandridge.

The Dandridge House, a family of vampires with a long line of both nobility and royalty, is known for their traditional values, ruthless political game, and tough love towards the members of their family.

So it is no surprise that when the Duke’s youngest daughter, Blair, did not develop persuasion or hunting instincts, they all but abandoned her. Shoved her into a small room up in the attic, meant to be never seen again. They even lied and claimed she died in an accident while playing outside, citing one of their numerous enemies as possibly responsible.

All her life, the only people Blair knew were the human slaves who cleaned and cooked for her, and her lone visitor: Eric, her older brother. Eric was the only one in her family that ever acknowledged her, and better still, her brother was endlessly kind and compassionate. Even when their family tried to discourage the boy with threats, her older brother sticked by Blair’s side. So when Eric mysteriously disappears and, despite running away and searching for Eric herself, isn’t heard from again for years, she is forced to accept the untimely demise, grieve, and move on best she can in the unfamiliar world outside her family’s castle walls.

Meanwhile, a lonely enslaved Eric is passed around from cruel owner to cruel owner, longing for home and slowly breaking under the stress.

This story is inspired by the phenomenal series Kane & Jim by the amazing @whumpsday. Go check out that story and blog if you haven’t already, there’s truly marvelous stuff over there.

(Quick note: Eric is a cis man, but he uses mirror pronouns. Mirror pronouns is when a speaker uses their own pronouns to refer to a person. My pronouns are he/him, so I’m referring to Eric with he/him. But if Blair, who uses she/her, was talking, she’d use she/her for Eric. Because in the story doesn’t have an official, in-story narrator, Eric’s name will be the only way Eric is referred to during descriptions (meaning no pronouns))

oh I completely understand that frustration/worry, anon! admittedly I've been a bit guilty of this as well (but I want to improve on how I portray them! I just tend to draw their clothes based on canon outfits and I sometimes project onto mike when it comes to gender/expression (i sometimes hc/draw him as genderfluid bc im genderfluid!) bc I relate to him a lot but I def want to draw will in more gnc clothing in the future, especially for modern day AUs ♡)

I haven't drawn them in months so I've definitely changed my perceptions for the most part after reading a lot of conversations/criticisms about fanon portrayals of mike & will so I hope I do them better justice in the future ^^ !

I think a balance of willow having both gnc and fem outfits would be nice! I think she would rock pastel pinks & yellows and overall dresses and I imagine them covered in little paint splotches and patches for when they get holes in them and joyce fixes it for her ♡

also it's SO HARD not to see michelle as a tomboy even though she'd probably be fem maybe? idk it's hard to imagine how these characters would be if they were canonically girls instead I just see them being exactly as they are in canon (in terms of personality and interests). also being queer I just have a hard time with conformity shdhdjks

im a very solitary person in general so i just have my small group of friends i see once in a while and thats it. i cant tell you whats normal and whats not but i do think the experience of being kind of lonely in your twenties is much more normal than you think. we live in an individualized society and finding community is difficult.
