Your mothers warned you about my coming. Fear the moment. But you think you could have a chance. But you are afraid, what if I could be the One? This could be the moment you've been praying for, all your life.

I didn't catch this bit playing in the movie but holy fucking shit I'm obsessed with the opening of it. The way the fremen vocals are literally drowned out by Paul's electric guitar to the point where only echos are left.
Insane. I'm going insane.

Doing several days' worth of homework in preparation for an exam tomorrow and a busy schedule on Friday, but had a hard time focusing. I watched the Dune 2 interviews from Vanity Fair earlier so I was in a Dune mood, I went and put on the Dune 2 soundtrack.
Holy shit, I locked tf in. "Beginnings Are Such Delicate Times" on full blast in my earbuds while I do math homework? IN THE ZONE. Hanz Zimmer the masterful artist you are.

I would ask what kinda straight up crack Hans Zimmer put in the Dune soundtracks if I didn't know for a fact it was pure CHOAM grade spice melange.

Bene Gesserit (Suite) | Dune: Part Two (OST) by Hans Zimmer
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

also I noticed they used the very very familiar score beats in the new trailer and yes familiarity and themes for each faction but also I wonder if they’re doing that to hide new scores as well???? I mean I wont be disappointed if there isn’t new music cuz it is a part two of a movie but hmmm has me thinkin

Arrakis teaches the attitude of the knife - chopping off what's incomplete and saying: 'Now, it's complete because it's ended here"

Beautiful interpretation. I loved this melody from Dune Part 1, where it was the theme of House Atreides and was just heard shortly played by the bagpipers. There was a long and beautiful piece on the Dune Sketchbook Soundtrack that I must have listened to a thousand times and I love that it's become such an important part of the Part Two score.
how the soundtrack of Dune part two helped build Paul and Chani's love story

A Time of Quiet Between the Storms
what we hear: The music is building slowly. Very slowly. You can hear the sand dancing all around it. The wind blowing. There is a melody that sounds like hope. There are some whispers in the background. It all sounds like as if something is glowing. The layers keep adding up until the hopeful melody is all you can hear, building with harmonies, with such a bright sound you can almost see the sun if you close your eyes listening to it. It is somehow deeply sad and hopeful at the same time. Drums are added which elevates the music to a level that altogether feels epic.
what we see: Nothing is safe. None of them knows what their future holds, whether they will find safety or not, what tomorrow is going to bring. They are trying to find their ways in whatever is left of their world. These tiny moments together are all they have. Outside of these moments all there is are fights, tears and loss. The pressure of his future would break him if it wasn't for her. But there's the miracle of somehow finding each other throughout all this. Getting to know each other day by day. With small gestures like glances and touches and smiles building up. Finding safety in each other. Building trust. Falling in love.

Kiss the Ring
what we hear: A sizzle. Harmony. The melody slowly returning. The same glowing, beautiful melody of hope. Carrying their world. Their moments. Their love. Their fate. It builds quickly, instrument by instrument. until it feels monumental once again, even louder than before- but another layer appears, and it is bittersweet. Sounds like victory. Vocals are added and there is a piercing high note in the background that is ominous. It is their melody still, but there is no "them" anymore. Heartbeats. Beating faster. What was once theirs is now no more. The music stops on a high and shatters all at once, just like her world did.
what we see: He won everything he wanted. There are obstacles and battles left to fight still but so far he has everything. Feyd-Rautha is dead, the Emperor is on his knees in front of him. The whole world is his to have. But in order for him to get all this he had to give her up. Give Chani's love up. Let her go. He chose his head instead of his heart to not be weak like his father was- even if it broke him. He knows all that already before she does. But she realizes it in just a second. Even in the last moment, where it's all said and done, he turns to take one last look at her. They look into each other's eyes and say nothing but say everything at the same time.

Had a dream I went bald because of a hair product I used. I’m like 99% sure my consciousness came up with this because I was listening to the Dune soundtrack while writing before bed.
Feyd-Rautha apparently was living in my head rent free enough that he took the reins over my dreams.
Something about dreams being messages from the deep I guess…

Would you happen to have or know anyone who has solarpunk resources for in deserts? I live in Vegas so I'm not sure if some things I see will be able to help me here :)
Hi! Thanks for getting in touch. Just wanted to preface this by saying I don’t live in a desert, I never have lived in a desert, and I don’t know a lot about deserts (I come from one of the rainiest places in Europe lol). So I may not be the best person to ask.
That said, I have seen some cool stuff floating about. The whole liquid trees debate that circulated recently was a good example - obviously these are redundant in a temperate climate where trees can grow, but in a desert a machine that captures carbon and generates electricity using algae would be pretty useful! I have also heard of various anecdotal stories of people greening or farming deserts, though I’m a bit more iffy about that - should we be changing the ecosystem?
Large swathes of uninhabited desert, with their constant hot sun, could be really good places for big solar parks, though, and the panels in turn could provide shade for plants and animals.
I’d recommend reading up on the lifestyles of indigenous and traditional desert societies across Africa, Asia and the Americas, looking at what technologies they use to keep cool, supply drinking water, etc. Lots of desert plants can have edible or medicinal functions that people don’t know about, so looking into them would be pretty neat - I know people have talked about vegan cactus leather and stuff though I worry that could become mass-commercialised and damage the desert.
Ultimately yeah, I think solarpunk desert narratives and movements are really cool and very under-appreciated. These places have a unique relationship to sunlight and solar power, and more of the planet is going to be desertified due to climate change, so I think they should be at the forefront of the movement. I don’t know much about them at all but I’d love to learn! If you find anything out about how we can apply solarpunk in the desert please do get back in touch and let me know, and who knows, perhaps you can start a solarpunk movement in Las Vegas!
