#due to them escaping the domes before other Octolings

Hi. When you said Callie "wants her claws back" in the latest time travel au post, can I ask why she has claws in the future but not the past? Also, what happens with Callie in the splat 2 hero mode?
Ah hello! I will put answers under the cut :]
To answer the first question, I headcanon that Callie got some gloves during her time with the Octarians that have fake claws on them. Since I think Octolings should have claws because it’s cool, things are made with the fact that they have claws in the domes. Like packaging that doesn’t have the “tear here” because normally a person just claws it open.
So Callie got gloves to fit in more and also to avoid difficulties that come from a society where people normally have claws. She decided to continue wearing them after her rescue because they’re useful and cool
Like this. And since the post takes place in Splatoon 1, she did not have the gloves, therefore did not have her claws which she’s grown used to having.
To answer the second question, I haven’t entirely decided. Part of me thinks she’d just avoid being kidnapped, but another says that she’s sympathetic toward Octarians and would willingly let herself be kidnapped to establish new programs and raise morale in the domes using her higher rank given by Octavio.
I’m the situation where she does end up ‘kidnapped’ she does her stuff like decorating everything and trying to convince Octavio to make a mental health program.
In the scenario where she doesn’t get kidnapped, splatoon 2 just plays out as a save the great Zapfish mission without a kidnapped Squid Sister alongside it.
I’m leaning toward the willing kidnapped side but still unsure

a really long analysis about fanon Marina and the flanderization by fandom she has gotten
fanon marina (the version created by the fans) mainly focuses on two things, her being autistic coded and her being basically confirmed to be a lesbian. And I do think this has to do with her being VERY much like a typical splatoon fan in many people’s eyes. Her being a nerdy queer neurodivergent person. This is also why other parts, especially her relationship with her being an octoling gets often locked away. Subconsciously at least
if Marina was a book, several chapters would focus on her identity as a dome octoling. Her being autistic would probably pop up here and there, but it wouldn’t be a whole chapter. But her very much gay relationship with Pearl would definitely have a few chapters. But with people focusing on those few lines and chapters rather than the whole book. People would slowly ignore the other chapters, get shocked like Adam Sandler learning Pac-Man was the bad guy in the hit movie pixels.
the splatoon fandom’s western side is mainly white Americans and Europeans. Which is one reason why the fanon Marina doesn’t focus on her identity as an octoling, but also on how many details are not really told to the player. Marina barely shows her ears, which can both be read as her having sensory issues (which is a super valid headcanon(, but also her not feeling super comfortable with her body. With her ears being a reminder of her “you are with people who still think you are only going to steal stuff”. Her tentacles may be weird, she may lack the eyeliner an inkling has. But those things can simply be a stylistic choice. Her ears can’t be one. They are too different. I also know the DLCS focuses more on her identity as a dome octoling. However many can understand how her arc as a whole can be paralleled to the real life experiences of people belonging to marginalized ethnic communities. I also want to point, while writing this. I realized (which many people probably already did). Dome octolings you see outside of the domes (splatoon 2 octolings, Marina, Acht, Paul), are all refugees. They are all characters who grew up in a society that had been shunned for decades, even centuries. That society ended up being oppressive both due to external and internal issues. They know the society they’re living in is no longer a good place to live in. So they escape. Hoping to find a place that will take them on. For agent 8, Marina, and Paul. They found a safe place. Acht wasn’t super lucky however. They were told they could find a “promised land” only to be left in even more ruin before. So not only does Marina’s character arc focus on her being a part of an ethnic minority, but a refugee at that. so why does fanon marina usually avoid that part of her? Well as a mentioned before. Marina has three things that makes her very relatable. While the more backstory focused things are less relatable to a way smaller margin of the splatoon fandom. A way smaller part of the fandom are poc in a very white country. And a very small percentage are refugees.
if we removed Marina’s backstory. We would still be left with the fanon version. A nerdy autistic lesbian who deeply loves Pearl. I love how Nintendo got a game that also isn’t afraid to show a society that cares about queer people if not is queer centric itself. Which is probably why many people cling to that part of Marina. But if we removed that part. What would we be left with? Well, we would have an octoling refugee who is a trained soldier and can create weapons of destructions (and she would still be in love with Pearl, it is an important part of her backstory). im not saying the splatoon fandom’s openness to lgbtq and neurodivergent people is a bad thing just because they boil down one of the most plot heavy characters down to those things. It is actually a really great thing to have a fandom that is open to these marginalized groups.
i just want to say, due to this love for Marina being a character you can relate to. It feels like certain parts of Marina’s character (which can also be very relatable to some) is being drifted away to the more lore centric side of the fandom. Which will lead to a sort of fandom flandarization which is very unintentional and just done due to a love of Marina as a character.
If you’ve read this an disagreed, that is fine. Character writing is a very subjective thing

Okay SO
Time to break down what's wrong with this family of fucked up Octos into a somewhat simplified list
This time I'll try to keep it all in something resembling a chronological timeline
°In his youth Octavio was an extremely spirited, passionate, caring man who adored his people and stood as an absolute prodigy to his family. Strong and skilled in combat, and one of the finest engineers of his age. The future looked bright for him.
(Young Octavio sketched by @for-a-new-life)
°Haha. No.
°Immediately after the final battle that lost them the Great Turf War, the Octarians retreated into the domes, Octavio was on the brink of death due to severe injuries and had to be treated immediately with limited power and supplies. This involved several rushed surgeries and the amputation of his left arm in the hopes that it would regrow healed. Unfortunately it never fully recovered and the damage is visible for the rest of his life.
°His amputated arm is put on ice and stored away, eventually being forgotten about.
°As time goes on and the Octarians struggle Octavio goes through an emotional shutdown and essentially withdraws from any and all personal relationships. Caring too much for too long eventually took a toll that he could not afford, and thus he put his walls up in order to feel in control.
°Many decades later Octavio has aged greatly and yet still has no heir to his name, nor has he shown much interest in figuring one out.
°Around this time a scientist finds and pulls Octavio's old arm out of storage, hoping to get himself in his leaders good graces, takes it upon himself to use the arm for a personal project
°From this tentacle he grows a fine young female Octoling specimen, the only flaw being the green scarring visible across her back that he couldn't make go away
°This clone is eventually presented to Octavio, and he responds in rage and disgust
°However, it's too late to throw out the near fully gestated clone so she finishes her incubation and is released
°Octavio reluctantly takes her in, gives her the name Uni, and from the moment she can hold a weapon is set to training
°He rarely speaks to her, and for the most part she is forbidden from bothering him.
°She is never allowed to call him 'Dad' or 'Father' or anything like that. Only ever 'Sir'
°She trains and studies constantly hoping to become good enough to earn his approval
°Octavio is exceedingly hard on her, expecting her to be the best of the best and anything below that is unacceptable
°The truly horrible dark truth of it all is that he does love Uni, he loves her to death, but that terrifies him.
°He loved her from the moment he looked at her and that made him feel like he was losing control, and thus he resents her for it and takes it out on her with harsh words and manipulation. To him she is a walking weakness literally resurrected from one of his worst memories. So yeah that's fun.
°Eventually the events of Splatoon 1 happen and Uni hears the Inkantation, it opens her eyes and makes her long for something more than this miserable pit she was born in
°She makes her escape while Octavio is distracted with his whole Kidnapping Callie plot
°She's on the run for a while before being accosted by Agent 3 (Arashi) and Cap'n Cuttlefish, kicking off the events of the Octo Expansion where she gets the title Agent 8
°Those proceed mostly as normal, although she is shaken by Craig's kindness towards her as that's not something she's used to
°Stuff happens and she helps blow up TarTar, earning her right to the surface and her place with the Squidbeaks
°Craig and 3 take her to meet the others, where they meet Callie, Marie, and 4 post thwarting Octavio's plans
°Uni finds her father in the Snowglobe and tries to talk to him, hoping that maybe saving the world would be enough to earn some level of approval
°It doesn't go well. Octavio flies off the handle at her about her being a traitor and a deserter.
°At this point Uni finally snaps, she finally becomes disillusioned with her father and basically tells him to eat shit and storms off.
°Octavio is actually decently shocked by this. He didn't expect her to actually walk away from him, He didn't think she'd actually have the guts for it.
°Uni eventually accepts the Squidbeak Splatoon as her new family and changes her name to Ashta.
°A little while later Ashta ends up having her daughter Amp, and picks up a somewhat shitty job working for Grizzco to support her kid
°She quickly rises through the ranks and becomes very good at her job
°Several years in she's about as high ranking as she could get, and she gets curious about where all the eggs are going
°Ashta gets incredibly close to finding out the truth, but Grizz stages a work accident in an attempted murder to get rid of Ashta
°Ashta is stranded away from her family with no way to get back, presumed dead
°Grizz then tries to arrange for her kid to be disposed of to tie up loose ends, but Amp escapes
°Unfortunately she is unable to find the Squidbeaks, and is thus on her own for the next long long while
°Skip until just after the end of Splatoon 3's main campaign, Amp has been fending for herself for so long and dreaming of a family, that she's thrilled to discover she has a biological grandfather at all, not really caring that he's a horrible old war criminal.
°The fact that he's basically The DJ Ever also excites her to no end
°Amp sees both Octavio and the Squidbeaks as her family now, with seemingly very little awareness as to how everyone else feels about that
°Octavio isn't really sure what to make of the kid at first, she's loud and tiny and annoying, like a particularly bothersome fly that's buzzing around him constantly, the only reason he accepted her was cus Craig had the gall to imply he just wasn't cut out for being a grandpa.
°But as much as he wants her to shut up and leave him alone, the idea of pushing her away makes him...uncomfortable
°Maybe it's something about someone of his own flesh and blood not being able to speak her own language, or maybe that he'd be proving Craig right by doing so. (Or maybe it's that he drove his own daughter away like the old prick he is)
°So he tolerates her, never calls her by her name though. Usually some form of 'Kid', 'Pipsqueak', 'Shortstack', or whatever else. Including 'Angelfish' once he warms up to her a bit.
°Their shared love of DJing definitely helps with that.
°Them getting along takes for fucking ever frankly cus Octavio is an emotionally constipated old fuck on a good day
°He does care though, there is one point when he nearly gets torn apart by Salmonids while trying to save her
°But he's also an old cunt who knows she's desperate for approval and afraid of being abandoned and will absolutely use that to get away with being a bit of a dick.
°He has massive expectations of her, stuff she doesn't even really understand. Like what does it mean to be an 'heir'...?
°Basically he's awful and horrible but he loves her and she loves him but he sucks at loving people without it being a gigantic fucking disaster
Hopefully I can go into more detail with all of this at some point but I've been writing for a while and I think I'm gonna pass out, thanks so much for reading all this stupid to my weird in progress setup to story about a kid and her fucked up relationship with her fucked up grandpa.
There's a lot of details left out here, this is mostly just a summary, and hopefully I'll be able to post more in future.

Thanks for reading
HORRIBLE MESSY IN-NO-PARTICULAR-ORDER AMP BULLETPOINT POST BEFORE SIDE ORDER COMES OUT LETS FUCKING GOOOO
THIS IS AMP ^ (art by @for-a-new-life)
SHE IS MY NEO AGENT 3
Age: 14
Height: 4'8
Full name: Amphitrite Takowasa
°She was born a little less than a year after the events of Splatoon 2 (we have a slightly altered timeline)
°She will BITE you if you call her Amphitrite
°Amp's mother Ashta disappeared when she was about 7 years old, ever since she's been growing up on the streets of Inkopolis alongside her best friend/little brother Sammy.
(pictured here, by @redginaldusrooiakker)
°She does not know her own full name
°She has faint memories of Off The Hook playing on the television when she was little, this inspired her dream of becoming a big time DJ. (cus there's not enough of these Octo DJ bastards running about)
°She made her way to Splatsville at age 13 looking to make it big, although having no money and no home took to crashing on the couch in the Lobby.
°Despite practically living in the Lobby, Amp does not play much Turf War or any other sport. She tends to find them limiting and aggravating, as she's not much of a team player and tends to prefer an aggressive solo charge over working with others. As a result she turns to working at Grizzco for cash.
°She is very reckless on the job, with a tendency to charge in headfirst with a seeming lack of self preservation, most coworkers dislike her for her behavior and think she's a liability. She is, however, effective, and thus Grizz keeps her on and assigns her 'mentors' to keep her focused. (At least until they burn out and she's passed to someone else)
°Mains Octobrush
°After about four months of working for Grizzco, she had a falling out with her favourite mentor and wound up meeting Craig Cuttlefish and joining the Squidbeak Splatoon
°She just wants to feel useful
°Amp has a very casual way of speaking, very rarely using honorifics. Some find this rude, but it's typically a sign that she likes someone a great deal and feels comfortable. She doesn't typically gel well with Authority figures for this reason. (Albeit this is not intentional on her end.)
°She takes to calling Cuttlefish 'Uncle' not long after meeting him.
°Also has very little in the way of a filter with profanity, and tends to cuss a lot when the urge strikes her.
°Very fidgety, tends to chew on wasabi sprouts or tug on her tentacles to keep her mind occupied. Hates sitting still.
°Has very little sense of aim, her method with a splattershot essentially comes down to 'Can't hurt me if you're atomized'
°Almost shoots Octavio after he fell out of the Octobot, Craig had to knock the gun upwards to deflect the shot.
°Prefers baggy clothes
°Will eat anything. Not picky at all.
°Has a love for spicy food, the hotter the better.
°Sometimes eats things with her hands that really should not be eaten with one's hands
°VERY loud for someone her size
°Has no concept of an 'inside voice'
°If you do so much as give her a sandwich she'd probably be willing to die for you.
°Runs very warm
°Very heavy sleeper, can sleep in almost any position.
°The notch in her ear is from a Grizzco Charger by her mentor turned nemesis turned best friend Mono
----
°The scar on her forehead comes from accidentally bashing her forehead against the Octobot's control console during the fight with Grizz
(on that note)
°If you have talked to me about her or simply read her name, you'd probably have figured out that Amp is the granddaughter of DJ Octavio
(This charming fella. Art once again provided by @for-a-new-life)
°Neither of them are aware of this connection until post Splatoon 3's story (although there are a couple AUs where that's not the case)
°Her mother is named Ashta, she is Agent 8 and a Clone of Octavio (if you're wondering why she came out female well the answer is 🏳️⚧️)
°Amp's lack of knowledge of or contact with her grandfather comes from her mother's distaste for her father (to put it lightly)
°She looks up to her grandpa a lot, she definitely sees him through rose tinted glasses in her younger years. (Honestly the Takowasa family drama will probably get a reblog dedicated to breaking it down)
°She wouldn't have even been accepted by him if Craig hadn't basically reverse psychology-ed Octavio into actually being a grandpa to her
°Amp is close with Octavio but the relationship is...complicated to say the least
°Despite this she is very determined to upkeep a relationship with him
°When she eventually starts her DJing career, she does so under the stage name of DJ ANG3LFISH, a mix of her title as Agent 3, and of Octavio's occasional nickname for her, Angelfish.
°She keeps up this stage performance until one particularly traumatic performance scares her into silence for a time
°She later comes back onto the music scene in a somewhat fishing themed band called The Reel Deal, with her once again as the DJ, and her friends Mono and now much more grownup Sammy as vocalists.
°Amp would not start singing in their songs until some of their later albums.
°She has a lot of vocal fry which can be very good for their harsher tracks
And finally (for now)
°Amp is a Virgo
(doodle by @redginaldusrooiakker)
(Second part breaking down the Takowasa Family Issues will be out soon!)

tell me about,, her
NO!!!!!!
anyway
Moon is my octoling version of Agent 3! Wherever the idea came from, she just stuck onto my mind and won’t let any other agent 3 oc stay, which is. annoying.
So, okay, octoling agent 3, which means that she obviously betrayed the octarian society before the calamari inktantion. How so? Well, there’s a lot of problems with the system octavio has set up- and when Moon was a small child, she kept getting moved around as domes shut down due to lack of good power being structured, and Moon got more tired and tired of moving and decided that, hey, if the Inklings could keep a better handle on the structure than the octarians... then were the octarians so good, and worth being a soldier for?
So she ran, and then styled her hair after the popular hairstyle at the time. She starts doing some turf wars, starts learning how to use a weapon in turf war ways (she did learn a few soldier techniques before escaping, because she was old enough to do so) and then noticed an odd old man... and then became agent 3, oopsie!
Her hairstyle, while modeled after the inkling girl, has a few off things about it... her suction cups are on the outside, the front two tentacles have 3 suction cups on it, and also the back of her hair is two octo tentacles, not four squid ones.
She used to be good friends with her agent 8 until she was relocated, and that probably added to her going ‘wow is this really worth staying here’
She likes the color light blue- in fact, she made that her default color.
She’s bisexual, while her agent 8 is a Lesbian.
She took up a bit of dj-ing after learning about Marina, and modeled her appearance after zapfish- after all, she started helping out the octarians in the society she used to be from. While she won’t outright help them (due to her grudge against how they ran things), she will help the people in them- because that’s what matters to her.
People over “society”.
Her style of music is more experimental. Spark noises, some dubstep, maybe some mixture of ‘classical’ music and pop music. Some various little things like that.
She loves to look at the stars. Reminds her of just how much of nature she knows right now because she escaped.
She likes heavier blankets. Comfy.
She doesn’t have an eye scar. HOWEVER, she DOES get a lot of phantom feelings of something slimy crawling over her face, and, occasionally, will yell and scream for someone to get it off, like she wanted to back when she was.... you know....
her front two tentacles tend to be very touchy-feely with those she likes. She hopes nobody connects her tentacles curling around someone’s arm to be her form of affection.
Her eye masks are round, and are the same color as her natural ink color- light blue. Her eyes are green.
She’s of an average height.

Seeing how the little footnotes thing for Jackie went well, I’m gonna do another one, for Mint and Celia and how their relationship works for the most part. It’s gonna be longer, so keep that in mind.
So to understand how Mint works, we have to go back in time a bit, back to her days underground. There it was as decent as the underground, as decent as it can get, being enslaved by brainwashing.
However, there were a few older octolings/octarians who were pretty much not gonna be super useful there, due to their bodies not being as well as they used to be. It was their mentality of current affairs that made some of the few non-brainwashed people pause and think over the reality of the situation: You are effectively being used as a weapon by an old man who can’t accept that the wars over and is almost purely doing his actions on a grudge rather then any genuine want for the people, despite what’s shown.
To these people, Agent 3 is a sign that as long as you act on Octavio’s grudge, you are not allowed to ever walk on the surface, viewing the agent as a gatekeeper of sorts. These people were laughed off, until the Calamari Inkantation came along and did exactly what happened: Now that the people can think for themselves, the gatekeeper will let you pass, allowing you access to the surface.
This is where we get to Mint, escaping the military after doing some planning ahead. Now, she didn’t really buy all that stuff about the agent being a gatekeeper of sorts, but after the Inkantation, she figures that she has nothing left to lose.
So after a long while of trekking about the old domes, cave systems, and finding old exits, she eventually got out. And unfortunately, crossed paths with agent 3, who is currently on an expedition with the Captain.
In Mint’s mind, because she is effectively a non-combatant, and was someone who was saved by the Inkantation, she would be allowed to pass by without much issue, despite most of her body screaming to fight. She would be allowed to pass, and be on her way to a new life.
Unfortunately for her, Celia fought the octoling, on one part of her being ordered to, and the other part being pure reflexes telling her to fight because guess what, there’s an octoling right there.
This did not register well in Mint’s mind at all and thought that this is no ‘gatekeeper’: it was just an obstacle that stood in not only her way, but in the way of every other octoling who wanted to start a new life. This turned into something that was known to most of her friends up on the surface for a bit: her infamous anger. And that point, she only had one goal in her mind: defeat Agent 3, by any means. Be stronger then the agent.
Whether or not the initial attempt was successful is up in the air, not that it would matter because they were jumped by unknown forces. Mint, now with memory loss, and a subtle, but ever present feeling of anger and wrath boiling inside her, but not knowing the meaning behind it.
She finds out the meaning behind it during the ‘Drinky Ink Station’ which was one of the limited ink stations. At first it was going well enough, up until she encountered the sanitized octoling with the brella near the end. This octoling managed to catch her off guard and put her onto the ground, with the tip of the weapon pointed at her. That’s when she remembered. The reason why this feeling of anger existed inside her, why whenever Cuttlefish mentioned his agent, she wanted to do nothing more then to fight.
In a rush of anger and adrenaline, she ripped the brella from her opponents hands, pushed the octoling off her, and smashed it against the others head so hard, the brella bent. And in that one moment, Mint grabbed the sanitized solider and threw them off the side of the area. She did not care anymore, as she remembered her goal now: Defeat Agent 3, and achieve true freedom.
This is more or less where Mint gets her grudge of the agent from, because in her mind, she’s the one back underground, all because the agent didn’t let her go and attacked her on the basis of being an octoling.
When she got back, the only one brave/probably stupid enough to talk to her still was Cuttlefish. Said that he understood and that while he doesn’t condone her actions, he at least understands why she has them.
During this time on the other hand, you have Celia now lost around Kamabo without much to go on. She’s looking for the captain, and hoping that he’s safe. When she got to one of the camera rooms that overlook the tests, she saw that that’s the same octoling from earlier, and now that’s the same octoling beating the other one with a weapon now bent from raw force alone. At that point, Celia had another mission as well: get the captain away from this person.
This would turn complicated as once she goes to one of the train cams, she sees the captain not only with the octoling, but because of the little device she found giving her employee access to audio, she found out that this is now a new agent as well. At first she wondered if they both saw the same person, but during their talk, she learns that because of her direct actions against the agent, and because of not assessing the situation better, Celia learned that this new agent has every valid reason to absolutely hate her guts.
To say that Celia feels guilty would be an understatement.
So while Celia doesn’t exactly approve of the company that the captain’s keeping, she knows that being around the two right now wouldn’t end well for anybody and progress would halt because of it. She also needs to think of a proper way to apologize for being the cause of nearly everything that’s happening to the new agent now.
After awhile, Mint eventually got all of the thangs, and surprise, surprise, she was betrayed by the phone, but then was saved by agent 3. And despite seeing the agent on the ground, she knew that there are better things to worry about right now. Her grudge can wait.
Passing through the levels of Kamabo, Mint eventually reaches the last phase. Hearing on the radio that something stuck to the agents face, Mint was prepared for a fight. And when she saw the agent above her, with the goop on her face, she only got herself prepared.
And after a long battle between the two, Mint sees Three on her last legs, but still being forced to keep going. So to finish off the fight, she walks up, grabs the agents face, and rips the goop off her face. It was easy enough, with the prolonged fight weakening the goops hold as time went on. And while Mint was satisfied that she beat the agent, she knew that it wasn’t enough to stop the feeling inside her. She only beat a puppet, and not the true person she’s after.
And while she was tired from the fight, she still climbed up that ladder to the surface. And the reward for it, was a view that she would never forget.
Which made the moment of the statue rising from the ocean all the more insulting to her. How everything keeps trying to take away what she deserves. Even with her body tired from the last fight, she knew that she would have to keep going. And she did exactly that, by covering up the statue with ink. After the statue was destroyed, and Tartar defeated, Mint took this chance to look out over the horizon, now finally up there after so long.
When Celia woke up, she was on a platform up in the air, with people she doesn’t recognize. And the agent from earlier nearby. Before she could move her body, she saw the new agent walk towards her. After a few seconds of tense staring, she moved back to the edge of the platform and simply stayed there. While confused, Cuttlefish filled her in: The agent, while she doesn’t like you, she wants to enjoy herself. As much as she can anyway.
Landing back at the mainland, the decision to hold a proper NSS meeting the next day was unanimous. For now, rest is needed.
The next day, the meeting was held down at Octo Canyon. After a brief recap of the events on both ends (with some details being omitted), the next order of business was to find a place for the new agent to live for a bit. Mint, still tired and sore, wanted to fight agent 3. The only reason she wasn’t able to was because Cuttlefish appealed to her sense of fairness, and said that as long as 3 was in her current condition, she wouldn’t be able to give you a proper fight. Not able to find a good counter to that, not to mention having a point, she backed off on the matter, but it was clear to everyone there that she wants to fight the agent.
That was when the other new recruit, agent 4, aka Jackie spoke up: she would take the new girl in, as she has an extra room for her to stay at for a bit.
When no one spoke against this, it was decided that Agent 8 would stay with Jackie for the foreseeable future.
Once they got everything set up and after a short time staying there, it was an octoling by the name of Melone that decided to give her a proper name: Mint, because of her minty coloured eyes. At first, ‘Mint’ was against this, because it’s not exactly a good reason to name someone based on that alone. Eventually though, the name warmed on her, and now goes under her new name.
---
Man that was long, but I hope for the few that know of my characters, now you know them just a little bit better now.
