Ok, watched this episode and I naturally have some thoughts.

Because she proved here that 1) she doesn’t actually like her aunt that much judging by the look she got when Beakley said “Who raised you anyway?” and 2) she actually does care, she actually is a good person in some capacity maybe not fully but she’s capable of goodness. 3) She has psychic powers wooo

I liked Magica’s voice here very menacing and I like that she manifests as her shadow altho i’m not sure what that means.

Again this raises a lot of questions but thats what the rest of the show is for of course.

I’m beginning to feel as though the Della Duck mystery and the Magica mystery are 100% unrelated.

I want Lena to be happy!

Your opinions are DT17 are right, accurate, and all around A+. The show deserves a bunch of criticism but I think people are afraid to say it out loud because reasons???

haha im glad we share opinions anon. i think.. the die hard fans are obviously the most visible (most criticism don’t go in main tags because obviously you don’t want to ruin people’s fun) ... that + the ‘reviews’ from news site that read more like advertising than actual, in depth, nuanced review... there isn’t really anyone with visibility reviewing ducktales with a critical eye? i think people who don’t like the show don’t.. care about it enough to watch it / gave up long ago (tbh if I wasn’t so curious about Donald I would have dropped it a long time ago too. alas, curiosity killed the cat. i must commit to seeing my duckwife suffer)

i admit the way the show is being advertised, as in with staff acting like the fans’ best friends on social media, plus relying on social media and press buzz with one gimmick after the other such as THE SECRET OF HDL’S MOM, the DISNEY AFTERNOON CAMEO, the GAY DADS, etc instead of focusing on writing a solid narrative is, in my eyes, both extremely interesting and queasy lol 

ducktales doesn’t exist by itself, it fits in a long history of duck media and disney tv animation, so there’s a lot to discuss about it.. the show itself obviously but how it’s marketed and how it compares to others disney media and others modern cartoons etc

but also due to the nature of the show and current trends, the most vocal fans are very... against discussion and it seems criticism is seen as a personal offense against them, the friendly staff, or the characters, so it’s often immediately shut down. i mean, we’re talking about a fandom prone to harassment whose only form of opinion is expressed through edits of characters in pastel pride flag shirts, right

so yeah I think on a superficial level, as in social media, there isn’t visible criticism (and isn’t that great for Disney?) but i’ve seen more nuanced takes on private blogs (i mean the traditional ones like blogspot and such), group chats, private discussions, imageboards and such...

Jack was still laughing at his bad dad joke when he noticed that Samara was only smiling.

“What happened? Sam no like the dad jokes?”

She laughed quietly, “No, I do. I really do. I just have a question for you…”

Jack’s smiled dialed down a bit. “What is it?”

“It’s nothing bad, I promise. I just wanted to ask you how you’d feel about me getting a job…”

Jack’s smile reappeared and was followed by a chuckle. “For a second, I thought this picnic was ruined. That’s it? You wanna get a job?”

“I mean, yeah. Don’t get me wrong, I love being home with you and I don’t mind being alone when you have to leave but I just feel like I need something to do. I feel like a sitting duckwife.”

Jack twisted his face in confusion. “A duckwife?”

She smiled, “Yeah, a sitting duck and a housewife put together.” Jack laughed. “You’re not the only one with jokes, Dad. Mommy’s got some up her sleeve too.”

“Why did you feel like you had to ask me? I’ll support whatever you want to do because you support me.”

She had no clue why there was a doubt in her mind that he wouldn’t be supportive of her decision. That just wasn’t the kind of person he was.

“I knew you would.” She smirked, “I just know how much of a big baby you are when I’m not around and I wanted to make sure you’d be able to live without me sometimes.”

“Woah, woah, woah. What’s with the attacking?”

“I swear, it’s all love. So is it okay?”

“Yes, babe, it’s cool with me. As long as you’re happy.”

Also her tv tropes page now claims that some member of the people who works on Ducktales 2017 said that Magica is on the same power/threat level as Bill Cipher, though no one can find a source for that

Well I wouldn’t be surprised to be honest. Like, I’m not gonna be that person who’s like “ITS GRAVITY FALLS WITH DUCKS” because as a fan of the original Ducktales and Disney’s Duckverse I find that to be disingenuous and kind of a weird thing to say.

Ducktales brought the idea of narrative and mysteries into cartoons, without the original Ducktales there would be no Gravity Falls.

However that being said, I can’t deny that Gravity Falls has an influence on the show I mean a lot of the same people who worked on it are now working at Ducktales.

So it’s kind of like Ducktales (1987) influenced Gravity Falls which in turn influenced Ducktales (2017).

I look forward to Magica being a big threat in this because she is often not seen as a big threat in the comics or even the original, which is a shame since she has a lot of potential to be.
