This morning I’ve managed to fit in 103, 104, & 105. It was swimming and Elizabeth wanted me to join her in the pool, so I wore this pink floral maxi dress I got from one of those weird shops that sell parallel imports and dead stock of random things. I think it was $10. It’s full of holes but so comfy. I wear it a lot when it’s hot, though not usually over the top of a rash vest like that. I also wore my thongs today, it’s been over two months since I last wore them and I miss them. I’m waiting for spring so they can rejoin my wardrobe. Then we came home and had a shower, and now we’re getting ready to head out to Campbelltown to hang out with some cool friends. We’re going to be outside so I hope it’s warm enough for this top I got at the Sallys back in March. I think I paid $4, I didn’t even try it on, I just looked at the sleeve and went MUST HAVE. It’s beautiful constructed, there’s no tags, so I have no idea where it came from, but the fabric is thick and heavy. It’s not at all see-through, it doesn’t ride up, and the elastic is so well done it sits beautifully on my shoulders like this all day. This is an off the shoulder top that actually sits off the shoulder without requiring constant adjusting. I got to wear it a few weekends before it got cold, I can’t wait to wear it again this summer. THE Menangle Military Muster is only in its second year but its future looks…big.

Described as a gathering of military clubs and enthusiasts, the event drew pristinely kept collections of wartime era vehicles from near and far…to the tiny township of Menangle in the Macarthur region of Sydney’s south-west.

  “That beast sucks 70 litres of diesel per 100km,” marvelled one onlooker. “70 litres per 100k!!”

I won’t try to pretend that I know what the beast was… or even how it could consume such an amount. Perhaps I misheard the figures.

But these things were big. And they weren’t on their own.

A stallholder tells me more than I’ll hopefully ever need to know about a cluster of bullets of varying sizes – some possibly nudging an estimated metre in height.

Apparently military forces overseas are using a particular type of these bullets in their tanks requiring cleaning not once, but twice, a day…

There’s a lot to see on the site. Amid the maze of stalls, there are tents and many have come dressed in uniforms from the World Wars, accurate down to the finest detail.

But the enthusiasm isn’t limited to the World Wars.  A hundred metres away, there are tents of a different shape set up – with folks dressed in medieval garb wandering purposefully around them.

Some are polishing swords and helmets. Others are giving youngsters instruction on using handcrafted bows and arrows.

The muster is hosted by the Campbelltown Steam and Rail Museum, so naturally, there is also plenty to keep any vintage fans busy as well.

Food orders for the barbecue are being taken from inside one of Sydney’s authentic old Red Rattler train carriages – in use from as early the 1920s.

We are kindly welcomed by avid railways enthusiast and carriage collector Guy Matheson into another vintage train carriage on show for the day – a Steam NSWGR Rail Car 1596.

He explains how the carriage’s lights were converted from their original gas supply to electricity in 1932. It is clear from the outset that this restoration project is much more than a hobby to this owner. It is a lifetime’s labour of love.

Further inside, there is a fully operational model train set, complete with replica rural landscapes, buildings and shops.

The little ‘uns are just as beloved as their big inspirations.

Welcome to The Rogues Rant, an occasional look at all things Rugby

Illawarra Rugby gets back underway this weekend with a full series of Junior matches set for Sunday. Three venues will be in use for matches to get underway in all age groups from 9.00AM at Camden Rugby Park, University Oval and Ocean Park Woonona. Full coronavirus restrictions will be in place at all venues and all the details can be seen on the Illawarra Junior Rugby Facebook page. Check it out if you intend to attend as significant restrictions apply. As far as seniors is concerned all is go for next Saturday for Round 1 of 9 Rounds. Bowral are out and there may be one other team missing from 1st Grade but we will have to wait till next Saturday to see the final make up but things are looking good for all 10 clubs to field teams. First Grade matches are Vikings V Shoalhaven at Vikings, University V Campbelltown at Wollongong Uni, Avondale V Shamrocks at Brownsville and Camden V Tech Waratahs at Camden Rugby Park.

Just what can you expect at the grounds next week with the Covid 19 restrictions? Things will be considerably different to what you are used to at local matches. Crowds will be restricted to 500 persons but this should not be an issue for us to be concerned with. There will be a fully manned designated single entry point at all grounds. You will be asked to supply your name and contact phone number or you will be denied entry. Anyone showing cold or flu type symptoms will be denied entry. Change rooms will not be in use with players required to arrive at the ground dressed ready to play and must leave the ground once their playing commitments are completed. There will be a 15 minute break between matches. The full social distancing rules will apply with 1.5metre rule in play with restrictions in seating areas and the 1 person per 4 meter rule applying to all clubhouse areas. Of course we are still at the mercy of ongoing changes to restrictions depending on the latest Covid 19 developments. Fingers crossed!

There were a lot of long faces last week at ANZ Stadium among the Waratahs squad. After a slow start the Tahs got out to good 15 point lead after 30 minutes only to see the Brumbies strike back just before halftime. The Waratahs showed plenty of good things in this match but let the match slip late after getting into a winning position going down again following a late try to replacement Brumby halfback Issak Fines. They need to learn just how to win these close matches. The outstanding goal kicking of fly-half Will Harrison kept the side in the match with Harrison kicking three penalty goals to counter a four tries to two try count in favor of the Brumbies. Coach Rob Penney still has much to do to unlock the full potential of his squad. My tips for this week’s Super Rugby matches: Waratahs, Brumbies, Crusaders and Blues.
