#Dressemberbound Prompt: Mystical Creatures #Disneybound: Ariel 🧜🏼♀️ There’s just one more day to donate to my 2022 Dressember campaign! I’m finishing this bounding series with my favorite mermaid, Ariel. Link to give is in my Instagram bio and pinned to the top of my Facebook profile. To those who’ve donated, thank you. To those who’ve followed along, I hope you’ve learned something new. Together, we can all do our part to put a stop to human trafficking. Many everyday products, like chocolate bars and t-shirts, are potentially made by people who are not earning a living wage or working in safe conditions. The Dressember Network is working to prevent exploitation in supply chains and educate the public on conscious consumerism to reduce the demand for products and services made by forced labor. I'm on a journey to becoming a more conscious consumer and am committed to learning more about how I can support fair trade in my everyday purchases. Follow @Dressember to learn more about conscious consumerism, and consider giving to my Dressember campaign to help end exploitation in supply chains for good. #Dressember #Dressember2022 #humantrafficking https://www.instagram.com/p/CoEOkLOuP4i/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Dressemberbound Day 3: Jim Henson Day #Disneybound: Mokey Fraggle (with an Outlander twist? 😂) Out of 647 victims and survivors of commercial sexual exploitation in the Greater Seattle area, the average age of entry was 14.4 years, according to a 2021 Real Escape From Sex Trade (REST) report. Oftentimes those most at-risk are members of vulnerable communities with multiple marginalized identities. I am committed to ensuring the safety and overall well-being of children everywhere, and prevention work is absolutely necessary for protecting these groups The Dressember Network provides vital research and resources to the anti-trafficking movement and also supports prevention programs among vulnerable youth in the U.S. and beyond. By giving to Dressember, you help provide training and support to prevent children from becoming victims in the first place. Some of the ways Dressember does this is through foster care support programs, LGBTQ+ youth training and care, and more. Thank you for taking a stand with me to protect vulnerable youth. #Dressemberbound Prompt: Year of the Rabbit 🐰 #Disneybound: Oswald the Lucky Rabbit 💙 According to the Global Slavery Index, 71% of human trafficking victims are women and girls. The same report indicates that women and girls account for 99% of victims of forced labor in the commercial sex industry, 58% in other sectors such as domestic work, 40% of victims of forced labor imposed by state authorities, and 84% of victims of forced marriage. Dressember is committed to ensuring the protection and empowerment of all victims and survivors worldwide. Take a stand for the freedom and dignity of all people with me this year when you give to my Dressember campaign. #Dressemberbound Continued Prompt: Disney Pigs 🐷 #Disneybound: Piglet in Christopher Robin Human trafficking is an issue that impacts the most vulnerable in our society, in this case: the foster care system. According to the Child Welfare Information Gateway, approximately half a million youth in the United States experience foster care placement each year. The risk of trafficking increases when an individual runs away from a foster care placement, and youth who have experienced trafficking are grossly overrepresented by those in the child welfare system. The Dressember Network provides vital research and resources to the anti-trafficking movement and also supports prevention programs among vulnerable youth in the U.S. and beyond. By giving to Dressember, you help provide training and support to prevent children from becoming victims in the first place. #Dressemberbound Continued Prompt: Silly Symphony #Disneybound: Sugar Cookie Girl 💕 Criminal records hold survivors back, impacting their ability to obtain employment, housing, custody of their children, pursue education, benefits and financial assistance, immigration relief, or adjustment of status and family stability. A criminal record also acts as a constant reminder of their trafficking experience and confronting that can cause retraumatization. Survivors are routinely burdened with numerous records in multiple jurisdictions, requiring a comprehensive national approach to ensure that survivors have access to the full range of relief in a trauma-informed and strategic way. I stand with survivors and hope you will consider joining me in advocating for criminal record relief for those forced to commit crimes while under the control of their trafficker. Support my Dressember campaign to help survivors reach the future they deserve. #Dressemberbound continued Prompt: Thrifted #Disneybound: WALL-E 🪴 Children all over the world deserve to live free of exploitation. The International Labour Organization shares that for 160 million children that is, sadly, not the case. Child labor is more than working long hours or doing day-to-day chores. The ILO describes these actions as actual labor, often conducted under the minimum working age, that is directly depriving boys and girls of their childhood and keeping them from gaining an education—and in many ways, it is stripping children of their dignity, personal freedoms, and safety (as these forced actions are often very hazardous). I am committed to taking a stand against the exploitation of children everywhere and that is why I am doing the Dressember style challenge. The Dressember Network is committed to restoring dignity to children around the globe through prevention and intervention. There’s still time to commit to this cause by supporting my Dressember campaign! Until the end of January, you can donate using the link in my Instagram bio or pinned to the top of my Facebook profile. #Dressember #Dressember2022 #humantrafficking https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm-inUmO4RY/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Dressemberbound Day 31: Dedicated to.. #Disneybound: Minnie Mouse in Soundsational. This bound is dedicated to the ladies in my church who pitched in together to buy me my first ever ticket to a Disney park (Disneyland) in 2017. It was the sweetest gift, and I still think about it to this day. This picture of Minnie is one I took on that trip. I’m returning to posting at the end of December to remind you that even though Dressember is technically over, the fight to end human trafficking never truly stops. Throughout the month of January and into the future, I will continue to advocate for a world where slavery is a thing of the past! Traffickers prey on society’s most vulnerable members. The Dressember Network protects vulnerable populations through prevention programs in the United States and works with local officials to provide culturally appropriate care. In addition, one of the Dressember Network partners actively works to support criminalized victims of trafficking who are often wrongly accused due to bias and discrimination. I am taking a stand with Dressember to advocate for the dignity of all people, especially society's most vulnerable. Join me by making a donation to my Dressember campaign today. #Dressember #Dressember2022 #humantrafficking https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm2uK3PLYYW/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Dressemberbound Day 25: Soul Characters 🎶 #Disneybound: Dorothea Williams COVID made vulnerable Ugandan children even more vulnerable. In some cases, parents exploit their children in forced labor and sex trafficking to supplement family income lost as a result of pandemic-related job loss. When you support Dressember, you support aftercare programming in Uganda that empowers each survivor to heal from trauma, be free from revictimization, reconcile with family and community relationships, and eventually reintegrate into the community. The care survivors receive is comprehensive, including family counseling and community awareness to support safe and supportive reintegration. Support the care of survivors in Uganda when you give to my Dressember campaign today. #Dressember #Dressember2022 #humantrafficking https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmmk38juM4I/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Dressemberbound Day 24: Characters who are/wear green 💚 #Disneybound: Sarge from Toy Story 40% of sex trafficking victims in the United States identify as Black women. Studies show that traffickers believe trafficking Black women would land them less jail time than trafficking White women if caught. Black women and girls are often targeted by traffickers and profiled as dangerous, criminal, and guilty by the police. Traffickers have learned to exploit vulnerabilities, and statistically, black women and children have more compounding vulnerabilities than other populations, making them an easy target for exploitation. The Dressember Network fights discrimination through prevention programs in the United States and works with local officials to provide culturally appropriate care. Dressember Network partners actively work to support criminalized victims of trafficking who are often wrongly accused due to bias and discrimination. #Dressemberbound Day 23: Holiday Snack 🧁 #Disneybound: Holiday Cinnamon Roll According to the International Labor Organization, almost one-third of the $150 billion annual profit worldwide, nearly one-third (U.S. $47 billion), is generated entirely from trafficking in developed nations, namely those in the European Union and the United States. The Human Trafficking Institute reports that only 13% of U.S. active criminal human trafficking cases in 2020 were foreign nationals, meaning the majority were U.S. citizens. Trafficking impacts vulnerable populations everywhere. Trafficking occurs in all 50 states and most often affects folks with marginalized identities, like race, gender, and socio-economic status. It is critical that we accept that human trafficking is happening daily in our cities so that we can best support victims and survivors. Dressember supports well-vetted preventative, intervention, and aftercare services for victims and survivors of human trafficking abroad and across North America. Join the work when you give today. #Dressemberbound Day 22: Mystic Manor #Disneybound: Lady Medusa 🐍 Unfortunately, no matter where you are, human trafficking is taking place nearby. The Human Trafficking Institute reports that only 13% of U.S. active criminal cases in 2020 were foreign nationals. While it may be tempting to believe trafficking happens overseas or only applies to foreign nationals, the reality is that trafficking impacts vulnerable populations everywhere. In the U.S., this exploitation occurs in all 50 states and most often impacts folks with marginalized identities, like race, gender, and socio-economic status. Whether you want to believe it or not, human trafficking is happening in our cities every day, and we need to stand with survivors. One of Dressember’s focuses is survivor empowerment—they work to provide holistic healing and long-term success to survivors, empowering them to lead and live with purpose and stability. When you support Dressember, you help empower survivors through job and skills training, leading to career development and opportunities. #Dressemberbound Day 21: Holiday Style Villains #Disneybound: Queen of Hearts ❤️ The UK National Crime Agency notes that the sexual exploitation of children online can include online grooming, live streaming, blackmail, indecent and prohibited images of children, the sharing of these images, and more. According to IJM, the average age of OSEC (Online Sexual Exploitation of Children) victims at the time of referral was eleven years old. The Dressember Network thoroughly reports on the analysis of OSEC and recommendations for its prevention, specifically in the Philippines. One of their partners observes that OSEC is typically family-based and that customers tend to be from Western countries. Insufficiently resourced justice systems in developing countries, combined with the widespread use of technology and Internet access, can create a much higher risk of OSEC. The UN and FBI estimate that there are over 750,000 offenders worldwide. COVID-19 caused an increase in OSEC since early 2020 resulting in greater numbers of children being exploited online to meet growing demands. Support Dressember today to take a stand against online exploitation in all forms. #Dressemberbound Day 20: Disney Songs 🎶 #Disneybound: I Won’t Say I’m in Love 💜 Sadly, child labor is a very real global issue that’s hindering life and positive outcomes for so many children around the world. The International Labor Organization estimates that of the 152 million child laborers in 2016, 73 million of those were in hazardous work that dangerously impacted their mental and physical development. That number has continued to increase. In Ecuador, child labor prevalence increased by ⅓ and in Brazil it increased by 26% just between May and July 2020 in households assisted by UNICEF. Child labor is much more than just day-to-day work or chores. The ILO describes these actions as actual labor, often conducted under the minimum working age, that is directly depriving boys and girls of their childhood and keeping them from gaining an education—and in many ways, it is stripping children of their dignity, personal freedoms, and safety. The Dressember Network is committed to restoring dignity to children through prevention and intervention work around the globe. Join us by supporting my Dressember campaign. #Dressemberbound Day 19: Park Parade #Disneybound: Magic Happens 💜✨💙 COVID-19 highlighted that U.S. agriculture would collapse without foreign workers, but the current system leaves those workers unprotected from abuse, exploitation, and trafficking. When you support the Dressember network, you resource the Fair Food Program, an effort led by agricultural workers that work that helps prevent the trafficking of agricultural workers, sexual assault, and other human rights abuses. Dressember's mission is simple: to stand for the dignity of all people, leading to the protection and freedom of millions. Will you join me in standing up for the rights of vulnerable populations by giving today? #Dressember #Dressember2022 #humantrafficking https://www.instagram.com/p/CmW8mxXO6xl/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Dressemberbound Day 18: World Showcase 🌍 #Disneybound: Helga & the Nutcracker from the Germany pavilion during the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays 🎄 Dressember partners with one of the only organizations in Uganda with a license to provide residential care to victims of commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) and operates the only formalized aftercare program for adult victims of transnational trafficking. This aftercare program empowers each survivor with an individualized case plan to heal from trauma, avoid revictimization, reconcile family/community relationships, access educational and vocational scholarships and legal services, and provide avenues to entrepreneurship through training and start-up capital. This program maintains a 95% success rate in preventing revictimization and has demonstrated a ripple effect in the community – ending cycles of abuse, poverty, and exploitation. I'm passionate about ending child exploitation everywhere and am grateful Dressember has provided an accessible way for me to advocate for change. When you support Dressember, your gift helps provide essential protection for child victims of trafficking in Uganda and beyond. #Dressemberbound Day 17: Caturday 🐈 #Disneybound: Fat Cat from Rescue Rangers Prevention work is one of Dressember’s primary pillars, which requires addressing compounding vulnerabilities to protect marginalized groups. Dressember is committed to addressing the link between systemic issues and vulnerability. This provides the opportunity to prevent more people from becoming victims in the first place. We must acknowledge what vulnerabilities victims and survivors have in common in order to prevent trafficking in the future. In 2020, the top five risk factors for sex trafficking victims were substance use concerns, runaway and homeless youth, unstable housing, mental health concerns, and recent migration or relocation, according to the U.S. National Human Trafficking Hotline. To address these, Dressember partners with organizations committed to educating and protecting those most at-risk of trafficking through programs for LGBTQ+ youth, youth experiencing homelessness, foster youth, and more. We all have a part to play in creating a more just world. Support prevention work by giving to Dressember and my 2022 campaign.
