Dressember

Hey y’all!

So some of you may remember that a while ago, I mentioned Dressember. Well, Dressember has officially started! For those of you who don’t know what it is, Dressember is a 30 day style challenge in which those who advocate wear a dress for every single day of December to raise awareness about human trafficking. Our vision is a world where all people are free. I’m fundraising to raise money to prevent human trafficking, intervene in situations of trafficking, and protect trafficking survivors. As one who was sexually abused as a child, this means so much to me, and even if you can only donate a few dollars, I would appreciate it so, so much. Please prayerfully consider it, and if you can’t donate, would you share this post/the link so that others can donate, too?

I was super excited👏🏻 when Dominique @namasteandcrochet asked if I would join the team and pattern test the Blythe Dress which was specially designed for the #dressember2020 event (which begins tomorrow). I knew that I wanted to bring something special❤️ to this design Something that would really highlight the beauty of the #blythedress and create a little something extra to bring forth the spirit of the holiday season. To get that effect, I knew jewelry was the answer. 👍I enlisted the help of jewelry designer Yesenia from seniya_studio Boy, did Yesenia slay 🤯 the design. She was totally amazing. I told her that the design was totally up to her. I sent to her a picture of my not yet made dress, as well as a pic of the yarn and color the dress was going to be. She looked at my pictures to see what earring length would look best, and how long the necklace should be. I can’t tell you how she totally captured “me” with the design. Everything….from the sterling silver chains to the quartz stones, right down to the Swarovski crystals are perfect. I love the way the quartz captures the darkness in my hair while the sterling silver just reaches out and grabs those gray streaks (I mean “highlights”) making them sparkle and shine. 😱 She even made the earring length so that they would flatter my dress, hair and the necklace. Nearly every country in the world is affected by human trafficking, as a point of origin, transit or destination. Survivors or soon-to-be survivors are generally misled or forced by organized criminal networks into a situation of abuse from which it is difficult to escape. They might be beaten or abused, or their families might be threatened if they try to get away. Individual’s passports are often seized by the traffickers, leaving them with no form of identification. In cases where they have been trafficked between countries, victims often have little or no knowledge of the local language or culture, making it even more difficult to seek help. #Dressemberbound Day 31: A Happy Character Disneybound: Rapunzel 🌸 . . While there are many groups who already face disproportional access to resources, education, and opportunities, Native American women are over 2.5 times as likely to be sexually assaulted or raped than the general population of women. Even while only occupying a small portion of the overall population, the amount of Native American women enduring these crimes is staggering, as women and girls, in general, account for 99% of those in the commercial sex industry.
