I was today years old when I learned that Sergei, the big dude who helps you escape during the Vorkuta level, has a brief but tragic backstory.

For the millionth time since his death, Dimitri once again wished that Dragovich died in a more violent fashion.

110. Hawkhurst, by Joseph Dragovich
Tumblr media
Owned?: No, library Page count: 174 My summary: In the 1740s, smuggling gangs roamed the English coast, terrorising the local customs agents who tried to stop them getting their goods into the country. One of the most notorious of them was the Hawkhurst gang, smugglers from Kent who escalated their deeds to murder. This is their story - and the story of how they were stopped. My rating: 3/5 My commentary:
Another research book - I wanted to know more about smugglers of the 1700s, and so I turned to the only book I could find on the subject, this one about the Hawkhurst gang. I'd never heard of them before, but apparently they were quite notorious back in their day, basically running the part of Kent that they were from in a manner similar to contemporary crime families. They were eventually taken down when the laws around smuggling were tightened up and, fearful of them, some of their fellow smugglers turned King's evidence to save their neck, as well as the customs men being able to hunt them down and find them. It was an interesting enough book, but I find myself without that much to say about it, so this is gonna be a short one.
One thing the book did that really annoyed me was that it kept making these modern pop-culture references, as though the reader isn't smart enough to uncover what they mean for themselves. A horse needing to be reshod is described as 'an eighteenth century flat tyre', and many references are made to cartels and Breaking Bad in order to explain why and how the gang was terrorising the locals. Did we really need this? I get that not everyone knows about history, but this seemed to treat the readers like morons. Other than that, though, it was a fine book and a good representation of its subject matter, if a little short. It told the story, even if by the end the story got a little repetitive with its 'and then that one guy confessed and was hanged' being repeated over and over. Still, it was interesting enough, and gave me some ideas for my writing, which is why I read it in the first place.
Next, the fair folk and a midnight market.

ā› Can't find Marie . I assumed she would be here . With you . āœ
Zara replied , leaning against the doorframe of Allie's cell as she crossed her arms , serious expression on her features , the characteristic frown being the focus of it . Hostile , not a surprise . Why ? It wasn't hard to guess .

#1 Vasili and Park
Tumblr media
"He knows way too much." Adler groaned as he puffed his smoke from the cigar, talking to Helen Park next to him in the intelligence room.
"At least he doesn't remember who he really is." Park stated.
"You don't understand. The way he's learning everything at full speed isn't a good sign, either. I believe the brainwashing didn't work." Adler wasn't sure that the brainwash affected Bell at a massive scale. With that, from Bell's learning speed to grab onto such concepts that used to be similar for him back in his days of KGB was what made the man a bit worried.
"I'd like to say, that at some point there are rare individuals who possess such ability to learn things quickly or still retain those very capabilities from their previous memories without having to remember what they used to be. Look at Mason, he was able to break through Dragovich's brainwashing despite heavy resistance."
"It better not be another failure, Park. Bell isn't someone you could believe in or trust. And he's growing way too much closure with you unlike the rest. We'll lose all of our progress if this happens."
Park was in her thoughts for a while before she could develop an answer. "Don't worry. I got everything under control."
"Like how? What are you even going to do?" Adler asks in an indignant manner, and Park gives a smile instead, knowing what to do.

I JUST FOUND OUT A LOT OF THINGS ABOUT GRIGORI WEAVER:
1- His password on his email, which is gweaver, is GEDEON, that is, his password is the name of his deceased father. Oopsā€¦ it broke my heartā€¦ 2- Weaver's mother took him to the United States once his father died, that is, when Weaver was 7 or 8 years old. However, I always believed that his mother had taken her two children, because it was logical to me. But no, it turns out that Weaver's mother took Grigori but left his sister in the Soviet Unionā€¦ but we don't know with whom. So it turns out that Grigori grew up as an only child, since he always thought that his sister had died.
3- But no, it turns out that his sister did live and got married but died giving birth to her daughter Kristina, that is, Grigori's niece. When Grigori was 19 years oldā€¦and without knowing itā€¦
4- Grigori Weaver has, or had, an aunt WHO WAS A REDHEAD AHHH. We Weaver, introduce me to your aunt pleaseā€¦ it also strikes me that Weaver has black hair when her aunt has red hairā€¦I'm going to believe that her father, Gedeon, maybe also had black hairā€¦or her mother.
5- Weaver did have some kind of relationship, which is not a courtship of course, because Samantha Maxis was only in a kind of relationship with Ravenov, but even so he had some intimacy with Weaver, which for him was something more emotional. Buuuutā€¦it's strange to me because he generally saw her as moreā€¦something paternalā€¦but stillā€¦and for him, she was his refuge, although Weaver protected her like a father to a daughter at times, as we see in call of duty cold war. (or so I understood)
6- It is said that Weaver is a talented mechanic.
7- Until 1977, Weaver was unaware that he still had a blood relative who survived the Great Purge. But, unbeknownst to him, Kristina, daughter of his sister Olga, is a GRU agent and a double agent working for the CIA. And mind youā€¦Weaver in 1977 was 41 years oldā€¦
8- Weaver discovered that his sister survived Stalin's Purge and was adopted by a new family. She married and had a daughter, who Weaver believes lives in Moscow. Weaver is desperate to find his niece, as she is the only blood relative he has left. Despite this, a high-ranking individual tells him not to look for her. Through other messages and information it is revealed that Weaver's niece, Kristina Raskova, worked for the KGB and the GRU.
9- In Black Ops 1, When Frank Woods and Mason rescue Weaver, he is grateful and holds them in high regard. However, as time goes on and Weaver sees Mason's mind getting worse, the friendship begins to fall apart. Weaver began to worry about Mason, even going so far as to think that he might be a traitor. In a private conversation with Hudson, Weaver mentions that Mason should stop suffering. Fortunately, it seems that Mason's mind finally improved and he overcame the brainwashing.
10- Weaver's private messages can be accessed using the username GWEAVER and the password GEDEON. The password is a reference to his father, who was killed in the purges. Reading the messages will reveal Weaver's distrust of Mason, as well as a humorous exchange.
11- He is a professional parachutist (he says it in bo6)
12- Weaver sets Mason up on a date with a woman named Sarah Leary. Weaver says it's revenge for her rescuing him, but unfortunately Mason ruins it all. Sarah emails Weaver, saying that Mason kept talking about Reznov, Dragovich, and numbers. She ends the message by saying that Mason needs help urgently, and Mason texts her afterward saying that the date was terrible. I love this about Weaver because it's 100% me as a friend, because I've done it too. Setting up a friend of yours on a date with the girl he likes so you can help him out, just because you love your friend and want the best for him or because you meet a girl who tells you she likes your friend and you help out anyway. I find this side of Weaver very endearing because we never see it on screen, but knowing that it's there is still comforting.
