DRAGONSONG: draft 2 update: 23/12
previous word count: 126,834
current word count: 127,195 (361 added)
notes: i'm like two scenes from the end! hoping to finish this by the end of the year, since i started the draft very close to the start of the year 👀
snippet:
Jasper had promised he would help her through her [lindium] withdrawal and, true to his word, he was never far away. And if he was not there, someone else was. It was the only bright spot in the midst of withdrawal. The first several weeks were awful. She floated in and out of fitful, achey sleep. Her head throbbed and spun, her limbs felt like lead, and none of the food Jasper brought her ever stayed in her stomach long. She could barely stand long enough to walk to the bathroom, so Jasper supported her or carried her. Robin and SB cleaned soiled bedsheets and clothing with a snap of their fingers. Sierra brushed the tangles out of her hair every few days, and braided it so that it would be comfortable to lie on. Some days, she fell asleep to the soft sounds of Enya’s song.

the first answer is a spoiler. Isi and Theo for my respective WIPs are probably the least likely, though the entire crew of the Hurricane are fiercely loyal to each other.
a question I shall pass on is which OC do you want to have dinner with?
OKAY!
WRITEBLRS if you're seeing this, you're legally obligated to reblog with an answer, and then a new question for the next person!
Here's the start:
Which of your OCs is most likely to punch somebody in the face?

DRAGONSONG: draft 2 update: 23/11
previous word count: 120,775
current word count: 123,122 (2347 added)
notes: and now comes battle aftermath! to all of you who say i never let Isi rest, she now gets to sleep for like two straight days. and then some.
snippet:
Finally, her ears picked a sound out of the chatter. “…Sierra,” Holly was saying. “I’ll go down and visit them later, but I’m sure Henry has it well in hand.” Sierra. Isi blinked. Bethany’s blade swung down. Sierra screamed Isi’s name. Blood splattered across Sierra’s face— She shook herself. “Is Sierra alright?” Holly nodded. “She’s doing quite well, but she’s not up to walking. I made her rest.” “In the infirmary?” said Isi. “Yes.” “I should go there to check on her.” Holly exchanged a glance with Meg that Isi couldn’t read. Then she nodded again. “Sure. Follow me.” Putting one foot in front of the other turned out to be more of a challenge than Isi expected. Her muscles ached, cuts pulled open as she moved, and her head felt like it had been packed with wool. The world blurred and tilted around her. Someone grabbed her arm. In the distance, a long way away, she heard Meg’s voice. “You should go to the infirmary alright, but not for Sierra.” Now there were arms around her back, one on each side. It hurt. Everything hurt, but she was too tired to object. She tried to force her eyes back open, but her eyelids were heavy. Too heavy. They slid closed again, and the world went blissfully quiet.

HECATE, GODDESS OF THE WITCHES !
Witches
Hecate: Goddess of the Witches! Different traditions of Wicca honour different deities, but Hecate seems to cross all the boundaries. And why not? She is the original boundary-crosser, the Goddess of all doors and gates, all transitions from one place (or state of being) to another. She is the original hedge-sitter, the Hag, the Hex-mistress – all words arising from the same root as Her name. She is the One who has access to all the realms of existence – material Earth, the Heavens, the Underworld…. Hecate stands at the Gateway between the Worlds, as guard and guide.
Hecate’s Herstory The Deities (at least our perception of them) evolve over time. Our earliest records of Hecate (pronounced HECK-a-tay) come from Anatolia, where she was a Goddess of the wilderness, childbirth, and children – a Mother Goddess, a Great Goddess, the source of life. She was the font of bounty, giving endless gifts to those who honour Her. She is now seen as the Crone Goddess, Goddess of the Waning Moon, but this doesn’t bother Her because the Crone is the most powerful and empowered of the stages of womanhood. Originally the Queen of Heaven, Hecate became downplayed and twisted as She was incorporated into Greek mythology. She gradually became seen as a Triple Goddess (the Great Goddess in multiple aspects), and later as only the Crone face of the Triple Goddess. She has been with humankind so long, that She is seen in many aspects, all of which taken together confirm Her status as Great Goddess: Mother of the Gods Goddess of the Earth Goddess of the Underworld, Queen of the Dead, Queen of Ghosts Goddess of Crossroads and Gates Goddess of Sorcery and Magick Light-bringer The one who leads She is associated with Isis as Queen of Heaven, Ereshkigal as Queen of the Underworld, and Artemis as Goddess of the Hunt and Wild Places.
Although later, as Western religion became more devil-oriented, Hecate was considered to be the source of evil spirits and demons, this evolved because She was known originally to protect against them.
Eventually, it was reasoned that if She didn’t like you, She would fail to protect you, so ghosts and demons would get you… a small step to thinking that She was the cause of such things.
Hecate In Modern Wicca
Hecate is the Crone Goddess of Wicca, the third phase of the Moon Goddess.
She is a protector Goddess, implacable yet tender-hearted. She is wise and strong; She knows Herself and all Mysteries. She sees through illusion and deception as if the Truth were a blazing torch.
This doesn’t mean She is easy to understand! In fact, Her wisdom is so profound that no mortal can hope to know it all, or to predict Her actions, which may seem mercurial.
She is also a Karmic Goddess – She upholds the Law of the Universe, the one who doesn’t let you get away with anything, who doesn’t allow you to avoid the consequences of your actions.
So when working with Hecate you must be careful – you may get less than you ask for, more than you expect… or what you really deserve.
She is the Goddess of beginnings as well as endings, and all transformations from one state to another.
She is the Goddess of the Gateway between the worlds, present when we come into this life as well as when we leave it. And though She is implacable, She is not without mercy, generosity, and tenderness of heart.
Hecate is the Reaper, the Goddess of Death – the inexorable tides of time, the pitiless Mother who takes Her children back into Herself.
(There must always be the death of the old, in order for the new to be born, and She clears the way).
The Crescent Moon is Her sickle – the hand-held arc of a knife that was used for harvest. Yes, there is death here, but as always in Nature, the death is in service to life.
She guides souls into birth, and back into the soul’s True Home at death.
Her power is also healing, for as Mother of All, Her compassion is boundless. She holds, and shares, the knowledge of all healing modalities and the uses of plants.
She is the Keeper of the Mysteries. Time and Space
Darkness, Mystery, Spirit Realm – These are Hecate’s domain.
The season of the Dark is Her time. As such, she is associated with the Dark of the Moon.
October 31st, leading into the wintery death of the Earth, is a day to honour Her (among other Samhain traditions).
Since one way of honouring Her is to put out lanterns, it seems as though Jack o'lanterns may have begun as a way to honour or call Hecate (since as Queen of Ghosts She could protect us from harmful spirits).
She is Goddess of the wilderness, the Queen of Magick and the Night, and thus the Queen of Witches.
Her time of greatest power is Midnight.
She is the Goddess of Threshholds, boundaries and hedges, Gates, and the Triple Crossroads where life decisions must be made – wherever you must surrender your other options in order to follow your choices.
She is the guardian of the liminal zones – the border lands, the edges, the place where choices can make the world over. Where 3 roads intersect, Hecate waits to light the way with Her lantern, enabling you to see what each decision will lead to, and cuts the cords that tie you to the past, when you are ready to move forward.
Attributes and Powers
Standing as the bridge to the spirit realm, Hecate is a Goddess of immeasurable power. She is not a soft-and-cuddly Goddess, though.
She is the Grandmother, whose scope of concern goes far beyond the immediate family of spouse and children – the well-being of all humanity, present as well as future, is Her domain.
She knows all your tricks and won’t let you get away with anything… but who also loves you and wants to help protect you.
She honours your own choices, though, and will not protect you from yourself – however She is always there for guidance if you choose to look for Her.
She comes to take the living to the land of death, and so seems hard and even cruel, but She releases us from suffering and illness. Her care is genuine and deep as the universe, but it is not gentle or accommodating.
She is the Crone. Hecate is as virgin as the Maiden, having no consort, complete in Herself. She needs no one, giving Herself away to only Her own calling.
She is the hag, the original witch that patriarchal fairytales scare us with (since nothing is more terrifying or dangerous to the patriarchy than a single woman, fearless in her magickal power).
She does not desire youth nor beauty, love nor fear; veneration and status are meaningless to the Crone.
She knows the ways of Mystery and follows the wisdom She finds within herself. And that is the extent of Her ambition.
Queen of Magick
This is a title that seems a natural for the Goddess of the Boundaries. Witchcraft taps into the forces of creation through a process known as Magick, and Witches are agents of creation. The Great Goddess of Creation is a worthy matron deity.
As the Mother of Creation, Hecate upholds / creates / IS the law of the universe. She is magick.
She has the power to TRANSFORM.
Anything She touches, is changed. And She shares this ability with those who honour Her, teaching us how to create our world to fulfill our visions.
Symbols and Associations
She has ever been associated with dogs, particularly black and female dogs.
The sound of barking dogs was thought to signal her approach.
She is also closely associated with horses, owls, ravens, snakes, and dragons – all creatures of great spiritual or magickal power. Bats, frogs, bears, wolves, lions, and horses are also linked with Her.
She is associated with many plants, particularly those that help induce altered states of consciousness.
Her symbols are torches and lanterns, knives and sickles, ropes, keys, labyrinths and mazes, and pomegranates — all tokens of finding wisdom, moving between the worlds, making choices.
Torch / lantern: to pierce the darkness of illusion and confusion… revealing wisdom,
Key: to unlock the door other realms and mysteries,
Knife or sickle: to cut away the paths we don’t choose, and the past that we can’t return to… including the umbilical cord that ties one to the other world at birth, and the silver cord that ties us to the body at death.
Invoking Hecate
As stated earlier, working with Hecate is tricky. You need to be careful and extremely respectful. I advise not invoking Her until you are skilled in Wicca and know what you’re doing.
Then, you may want to see the next article for some ideas on how to invoke this powerful Wiccan Goddess.
With Bright Blessings,
ERIN DRAGONSONG SOURCE, WICCA-SPIRITUALITY.COM

haven't touched my writing in a while and forgot how banger my most recent lines were, so here you go, bonus update (kinda)
Bethany coughed and slumped to the ground. Blood began to pool around her, spreading and spreading. Isi stayed where she was, to watch. She needed to make sure Bethany was no longer a threat. She needed to bear witness to what she had done. It could so easily have been Isi lying there, twitching in a pool of her own blood. Their places could so easily have been reversed, in a different world.

DRAGONSONG: draft 2 update: 26/10
previous word count: 114,550
current word count: 117,775 (3225 added)
notes: big writing day! battle is finally done, we hit the part in my outline that was at one time labelled "Dragon Ex Machina", and Isi got to finally catch something resembling a break! (also i hit 200 pages in my doc!!)
snippet:
The ground rumbled beneath Isi’s boots. She grabbed for the nearest rock to steady herself, and felt Robin grab her waist. The gravel at her feet danced back and forth. Earthquake. She hoped the ridges around them would not break apart. She clung to the rock, knowing Robin and Enya were clinging to her. She could not simply feel the rumbling. She could hear it, a deep sound, building bigger and bigger and bigger. A song. A dragon song. Up from the cradle of the mountains rose Fintan; behind him flew Vesta and the others, their chains gone. As they rose into the air, their song continued to build, until it was so loud it overwhelmed everything else. Magic swirled through Isi, filling her up, the wildfire and the ocean undertow all over again, all at once. It tugged at her beaten, heavy body, but she hardly cared, because on its heels came inexplicable joy. A tear spilled down her cheek. Hope welled in her chest, hope like she had not felt since before the battle had begun. The dragons were free. They could leave. Fintan opened his massive jaws, and his kin followed suit. A chill ran down Isi’s spine. Curls of smoke rose from the dragons’ nostrils, black against the grey sky. As one, they roared, and the ground trembled. A wave of orange fire rolled through the passage, over and around Winter’s Hold, consuming everything in its path. Knights screamed. The stone fort seemed to wilt and crumble. Even at a distance, the heat washed over Isi, drying the tears on her face. From Isi’s shoulder, Enya refused to be left out. She roared her own high-pitched roar, and spat her own tiny fireball.

notes: SWORD THROWING!! (this is actually possible IRL, but not at this distance and not through plate armour. but hey, dragon fire magic powerup!)
snippet:
In her mind’s eye, she saw herself running to try to block the blow. But she would never reach them in time. It was too far. Her head still spun. She would fall before she made it a few steps. The way was littered with stone and bodies. And Bethany’s weapon was already rising into the air. Sierra’s eyes went wide. Voice cracking in terror, she cried, “ISI!” Isi’s blood ran cold. Sierra needed her. So she did the only thing she could think of. She threw her sword. She put all her strength into it. The force sent her staggering to one knee, but as soon as the weapon left her hand, she knew it shouldn’t work. It was something she had only ever done as a trainee, to show off with her friends. The point would quickly drop too much to be effective. It might not even make the distance at all, let alone be enough to stop Bethany. But her sword flew true and fast, almost humming as it cut the air. The blade punched through plate and chainmail, and straight through Bethany.

Isi would be very confused by the whole thing. Sierra wants to do the maximum boop thing, so Robin and SB help her set up the program. Holly thinks it's fun, but primarily only boops Sierra. Once Robin gets into it, he's fully on board. SB spends most of his time sending evil boops; Robin sends super boops. They convince Isi to opt in so that they can spam her; Isi is confused and faintly horrified, but appreciates the affection when it's explained to her.
Enya is booping everyone IRL anyway
not to make everything about my ocs but i just know Euna, Gabi and Zeya would be going insane over this booping thing. they'd be booping each other into oblivion. Gabi sets up a whole program that just autoboops everyone she comes across bc she wants to reach that max boopage
Illiana opts in just to see what it's about but gets tired of it very quickly
Leo refuses to opt in so Euna and Zeya just start flooding her inbox with the word "boop" over and over

DRAGONSONG: draft 2 update: 29/11
previous word count: 123,122
current word count: 125,179 (2057 added)
notes: recovery time!
snippet 1: (Daphne is the king's eldest daughter, and i love her)
“We cannot. But perhaps in time I will have a son, and I will teach him a better way.” Daphne bowed her head to Isi. “For now, I must tend my daughter. And I hope, wherever I raise my family, that my daughter can model herself after a woman like you.” The tears in Isi’s eyes spilled over, and she smiled. Daphne smiled in return.
snippet 2: (see Jasper's fine, don't worry about him)
“Thank you.” [SB's] eyes flicked past her. “Hey, look over there.” She turned to see Henry further down the corridor, waving to her, his whole face creased in a smile. And beside him… “Jasper.” The word came out as half a whisper. She shot to her feet. He did not look fully healed by any means, but he was there, upright and arm in arm with Henry. Isi covered her mouth with her hands. It seemed so long since she had last seen him. “Heard you got rid of the king,” he said. The tiniest hint of a smile touched his mouth. She nodded. “In a manner of speaking. It’s good to see you again.” “Wish I could have been there to see it.” “There was not all that much to see.” She shrugged. For a moment, she was back in the throne room, the weight of a kingdom resting on her words. Then it was gone, just a ghost.

notes: Isi is having a Bad Day. it is not getting better from here.
snippet:
“I thought I might find you here.” Bethany grinned nonchalantly. “Clearly no one ever taught you when to abandon a lost cause.” Isi raised her sword to the ready position. This is not the time to lie down and give in. Maybe it was hard to believe she could actually succeed here, but she had not failed yet. “My cause is not yet lost, because I am still here.” “Well, let me remedy that for you.” Bone crunched. Pain fired down Isi’s left arm like lightning. She had barely even seen Bethany move. No time for that. She pushed the pain from her mind. This time, when Bethany struck, she saw the hammer swing towards her legs; she stepped back, letting it swish through empty air. Bethany reversed the hammer and jabbed its blade forward. Isi dodged, and it rang off her chainmail. Too slow. Almost too slow. She batted the hammer to one side and struck out herself. Bethany actually laughed as she dodged the blow. “Is that all you’ve got, turncoat?” said Bethany.

DRAGONSONG: draft 2 update: 07/12
previous word count: 126,221
current word count: 126,464 (243 added)
notes: okay, one more bit of ominous tension before everything's actually alright :) as a treat :)
snippet:
The sword had hung on her door for an entire week by now. It had served a purpose, but that purpose was diminishing day by day. Their new world was not one of swords and armour. She ran her fingers over the sheath. Perhaps the sword did not need to be hung up at all; she could put it in a box and never touch it again. But it had hung at her hip for so long, and it seemed almost wrong to put it away. She was not using it. She did not want to use it. She would never again be what the king had made her; her strength now went to rebuilding broken places, carrying children on her shoulders. Yet it was strange. It was not as though there was nothing to do. She was pleasantly busy, more and more as her injuries healed. She hoped that would be enough to fill the void her knighthood had left. But she could not be busy forever. In the midst of everything else, one after another, the augmented knights had to face the decision of whether to attempt withdrawal. And Isi had already made hers.

Hello, I am back on my nonsense!
In honor of beginning the process of rewriting Deathdancer, here are some highlights from my Very Serious Chapter Titles, which I apparently wrote at one point and then completely forgot. I'd like to say I wrote these in an insomnia-induced haze, but I'm pretty sure I just struggle to write tone-appropriate chapter titles, lol.

DRAGONSONG: draft 2 update: 09/12
previous word count: 126,464
current word count: 126,834 (370 added)
notes: this bit is going slowly because i summarised a little too well for my outline. oops.
snippet:
Deciding she was done with lindium had been one thing. The withdrawal process was another thing altogether. Unlike the king leaving his throne, lindium did not go quietly. This time, when she felt the dizzy spells begin, she knew what they meant, and told Jasper. Jasper nodded solemnly at her words. “I wish you strength.” “I hear I will need it,” Isi replied. Now that she had said it aloud, she could feel anxiety bubbling up inside her stomach. She felt suddenly small and child-like in front of Jasper, hoping he had comfort to offer her, with no idea how to ask for it.

previous word count: 117,775
current word count: 120,775 (3000 added)
notes: it's been a While! life happened. i am back tho! big writing day too :) lots of plot got resolved, and Isi is an icon as always. also shoutout to Cole, whose defining character trait is Love Wife.
snippet: (a long one, because this might be Isi's single most iconic scene in the book)
Isi held out her hand and said simply, “The barrier spell is down. The dragons are back.” He stared at her like she was speaking another language. After a moment, his expression of confusion faded into contempt. “Change is coming, whether you like it or not, but you can change with it. You can protect your people,” Isi continued. “All of them.” “You don’t know what you’ve done,” he said, straightening up. The right thing, Isi thought, and felt only a cool rush of confidence. Finally, she believed it. She had done the right thing. “Your duty was to kill dragons. Instead you set them free, and they will bring only ruin to this land.” Isi sighed. It was such a vague excuse. “And why is that?” “They hoard wealth,” he said, as though it was obvious. “They hoard wealth for themselves without sharing, and when they roamed freely everyone lived in fear of them.” That didn’t sound like the dragons Isi knew. In fact, it sounded more like the weaselly little man in front of her than anything else. She drew her sword. “You say my duty is to kill those who hoard wealth, and of whom people live in fear.” She did not raise her voice; she did not need to. The words echoed through the room. “Very well, your majesty. I am more than capable. But I will offer you a different choice. Throw down your crown and hand yourself over to me.” She had told no lies. She could kill him if she wanted to; she had killed his son, and many of his knights. A lump of shame rose in her throat. She swallowed it. She did not want to kill him, but this conversation would end with him leaving his throne. How he left was up to him. The king straightened up to his full height. It was not all that impressive. “I can’t leave. The kingdom will fall apart in weeks. Who else is worthy of this crown? You?” “I am no queen,” said Isi quietly. She had never had to run a country, and she did not want to. But there were others who would be willing to learn, who would do it from a place of love, and not a selfish desire for power. “Listen to me, your majesty. You can come with me to await trial, or I can do as you suggest, and kill you where you stand.” She had no idea how such a trial might work out, or how well the outcome would balance justice and mercy. But too many people were hurting under his rule to let him stay. “If you value your life, hand over your crown.” “You are a knight!” he spluttered. “You’re to slay dragons, not to work with them. Not help them.” Isi just stared at him, remembering the soft rustle of her surcoat falling to the floor. “No, your majesty. I am no knight. I am a woman who seeks to do the right thing, to bring peace. And sometimes that involves removing tyrants.” She took a breath. “Like the one in front of me.” Anger and confusion warred on the king’s face as he processed Isi’s words. Isi met his gaze unflinchingly. She was not scared of him, and never would be again. She would not back down.
