Do you really want a Pokemon MMO?
For years, people have wished for there to be a "Pokemon MMORPG." I feel like ever since WoW came out, the idea of the "MMO" became this magical final frontier for all game franchises for some reason, despite the fact that only a small sliver of MMOs end up being well-received or well-designed.
For all the people over the years that have begged for a Pokemon MMO, I'd want to sit them down and be like "Do you really want that? Have you pictured how that would really work in the longterm?" Look closely at how MMOs work. The way they have to make content feel endless...it's messy.
We already live in a world where games like Pokemon Go, Scarlet/Violet, and Legends Arceus have dabbled with features that we're familiar with from MMOs. Would Pokemon actually work by going the extra mile in a structure like WoW or FFXIV?
Assuming you play as a Trainer, imagine how much catching you'd be doing. You could conceivably catch a hundred Pokemon per day, for weeks, months, years? Each Pokemon would lose all individual significance. You'd either be dumping them off somewhere or they'd be giving you "Candies" like in Pokemon Go for incremental upgrades.
Gone would be the fun of party builds and your own strategy, you'd be doing set meta Rotations for your attacks to maximize your DPS so your teammates don't get mad at you.
Would you still feel any significance as a player when in a guild with like 20 other people who have all the same Pokemon as you, but better? Or you play as a Pokemon and you're like one of fifty Charizards in your guild.
Unlike Pokemon Go, they'd have to come up with a bunch of subsystems to justify the grind of staying in the game world for hours on end, too. Go had the advantage of not really having to construct a fictional world.
Not to mention I feel like almost every successful MMO has an endless grind for better loot drops (what exactly are the Pokemon equipping?) and a fleshed out economy with a market board (what exactly are we buying and selling again?)
Properties inspired by Dungeons & Dragons have a leg-up when it comes to making MMOs, because Dungeons & Dragons is already designed in such a way that it allows for that amount of broad "content" and stuff. A game like Pokemon...maybe not so much.
Even a game like TemTem, which I personally enjoyed my time with, I feel like struggled to create a cohesive package of how the "Pokemon main story quest" part and "online MMO features part" worked together.

Started playing Dungeons & Dragons Online with the sisters as part of our ongoing MMORPG research. While it has very off-putting monetization it also has a lot of interesting elements that really separate it from the standard WoW clone MMO.
For one, it has very in-depth character customization by MMO standards. In some ways even beyond what you get in actual D&D 3.5E thanks to having multiple skill trees and more interesting itemization.
But also the quests and their associated dungeons feel very different from the usual MMO dungeons in that there isn't really a standard rhythm of "fight a number of bosses with trash mobs in between" but rather a whole variety of things depending on the specific dungeon, including things like tile puzzles, optional bonus objectives, and etc.
I'm not sure how long we'll end up playing it in the end but I appreciate that it's this different from the norm. It's already more memorable to me than Guild Wars 2 was.

Summary of Guild Wars 2
Guild Wars 2 is a popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by ArenaNet. Released in 2012, it is the sequel to the original Guild Wars game. Here's a summary of Guild Wars 2:
Dynamic World: Guild Wars 2 features a dynamic, persistent world where events and player actions have a lasting impact on the game environment. The game does away with the traditional quest system, opting for a more organic and dynamic event system.
Player Races and Professions: Players can choose from a variety of races, including humans, charr, asura, norn, and sylvari. Each race has its own unique storyline. Additionally, there are different professions (classes) such as warrior, ranger, thief, and elementalist, each with its own distinct playstyle and abilities.
Personal Story: The game includes a personal story for each character, shaped by the choices players make during character creation and throughout the game. This adds a level of personalization to the overall narrative.
Combat System: Guild Wars 2 features an action-oriented combat system that emphasizes movement and skill timing. Players have a limited skill bar, and many abilities are tied to specific weapons, promoting strategic gameplay.
World vs. World vs. World (WvW): WvW is a large-scale PvP mode where three different servers compete against each other in a massive, persistent battleground. Players can engage in siege warfare, capture objectives, and participate in epic battles.
Structured PvP: ArenaNet introduced a separate structured PvP system, allowing players to engage in competitive matches with balanced characters and gear. This mode is more focused on skill and strategy.
Living World: Guild Wars 2 has a living world system, where the game's narrative evolves over time through regular updates and seasons. These updates introduce new storylines, events, and content, keeping the game world dynamic and engaging.
Expansion Packs: The game has received several expansion packs, such as Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire, End of Dragons and Secrets of the Obscure, which introduce new regions, professions, and storylines. These expansions expand the game world and provide additional content for players.
Community and Social Features: Guild Wars 2 encourages social interaction with features like dynamic events that promote cooperation among players. The game also includes guilds, which can claim and upgrade guild halls.
No Subscription Fee: Unlike many other MMORPGs, Guild Wars 2 follows a "buy-to-play" model, meaning players purchase the game once and can play it without a subscription fee. The game does offer in-game purchases for cosmetic items and convenience, but these are optional.
Guild Wars 2 is known for its innovative approach to storytelling, dynamic events, and engaging world design, making it a popular choice among MMORPG enthusiasts.

Introduction - What is an RPG?
Assassin's Creed is a historical/science fiction genre game franchise which narrative involves historical events and figures. We already know this because at the beginning of every game there is a disclaimer which reads
"Inspired by historical events and characters. This work of fiction was designed, developed and produced by a multicultural team of various religious faiths and beliefs".
This disclaimer was later changed to
"Inspired by historical events and characters, this work of fiction was designed, developed, and produced by a multicultural team of various beliefs, sexual orientations and gender identities."
This is a notable change which will be brought up and explained in a later post.
This is explored as the narrative of the games are essentially someone in the modern day 'reliving' the lives of their ancestors. Even though the modern day protagonist is a playable and important character in the narrative, the main protagonist is the ancestor who's life they're 'reliving'.
Again, this will also be explained in a later post.
The question is whether or not this sort of narrative/concept works after the franchise shifted into RPGs.
So over the next couple of days I will be posting about the different games within assassin's creed (in order of release) and how close/far they are to being an RPG. This includes only the main games and not the spin-offs.
But what IS an RPG?
It is commonly known that RPG stands for 'Role-playing game', obviously. But what are the minimum characteristics needed for a game to be considered one? Answering this is quite challenging as a vast variety of games have RPG elements but are not considered one to the community.
Looking back at the history, Dungeons and Dragons was the first commercially available table top role-playing game, published in 1947, inspired by fantasy novels, history, myth and medievalism (the representation/manipulation of the medieval and the understanding of the history, recreating the ideas of fantasy in the past). There are some popular videogame RPGs inspired by these such as The Witcher games, the Elder Scrolls games and some MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role-playing games) such as Runescape and World of Warcraft.
You'd have the gamemaster, player-characters and non-player characters. The gamemaster or dungeon master is the storyteller, according to TheEverhearthInn's web article 'A complete guide to dungeons and dragons', they are "responsible for building the world that the players play in, giving the players quests to complete and playing all the non player characters that exist in the world". The Article further explains that there are a set of rules to help give the game some structure and that dice are rolled to determine what outcome of actions are, but there still is a lot of creative freedom as you get to make your own choices and craft your own characters the way you want to.
Because of this creative freedom, it allows experimentation of identity, such as with gender, class, power, race, sexuality, talents ect. That's why originally the communities often associated with DnD were often the misunderstood and those that did not fit in with the norms, it was considered weird and 'nerdy'. Although DnD is more widely popular now, back when the game was originally published there was criticism for it's association with exploring magic and myth, that it was considered to be supportive of devil worship and witchcraft. Even in certain media we can see that DnD used to be for the unpopular and the 'outcasts', such as in Stranger Things, especially in the latest season where the rest of the main protagonists' high school misunderstand their DnD club and believe their were responsible for the catastrophes happening in the town.
Just like other forms of media such as films, games can be a form of escape. People tend to want to escape from reality just for a few hours to avoid the stress from everyday life, the monotony, maybe something they're going through that they don't want to think about and don't know where to put their emotions. Personally, I watch films and play games because of the lack of adventure you can have in reality, due to the need of money to do so and because it can be quite dangerous depending on what you want to do. Films are great at immersing you into a story but games give you the opportunity to interact with that story yourself, especially role-playing games. You're able to simulate things you wouldn't normally be able to do. The consequences are only experienced in that virtual world (unless you bring up the potential game addiction, time consumption, unrealistic expectations but that isn't too much associated with what you do in the game but rather the person's state of mind and how they treat games themselves in general).
So taking all this into account, we can say that something that makes an RPG is it's creative freedom, it's ability to allow you to escape into a world and experience things you wouldn't be able to in real life, such as being in a fantasy world with magic or in a different time period. You can make your own choices that can effect the story and the ending, and you can customise your character how you like.
Now for most videogame RPGs, you can say they still have a gamemaster, but now the AI/coding decides the actions of the NPCs and automate most of the story.
On their site, Techopedia state what they believe are the five basic elements traditional role-playing games share:
The ability to improve your character over the course of the game by increasing his statistics or levels.
A menu-based combat system with several choices of skills, spells, and active powers as well as an active inventory system with wearable equipment such as armour and weapons.
A central quest that runs throughout the game as a storyline and additional (and usually optional) side quests.
The ability to interact with elements of the environment or storyline through additional abilities (e.g. lockpicking, disarming traps, communication skills, etc.)
The existence of certain character classes that define the characteristics, skills, abilities, and spells of a character (e.g. wizard, thief, warrior, etc.)
This roughly sounds about right and so I'll be using these elements and the previous points I've made before to distinguish which assassin's creed games are the furthest and closest to being an RPG. I've played most of these games myself, but some I haven't played at all and some I haven't fully explored after completing the main missions, so I'll try my best in finding other sources and getting help from others to fill in the gaps.
I'll see you in the next post, where we will be starting off with, of course, Assassin's creed 1 :)

It's because actual quality requires management and shareholders to let go of the product's production and let the people actually working on it decide what's a good idea and what's a bad idea. You can't abuse and overwork your employees into making something that's actually really good, but you can abuse and overwork your employees into making something that's okay enough to keep some players invested long enough to shove microtransactions and overpriced DLC that should have been part of the base game down their throats.
The former requires that the people in charge actually let their workers use their expertise and have a healthy working environment and work/life balance, while the latter lets the people in charge continue to be abusive assholes while still making some money.
There's also the fact that CEOs and shareholders don't actually know or want to know about the things their companies make and how to make them well, nor do they care about market diversity. They want- need, even, because of how capitalism works- to have all the money now, and all they know are data points. So they see a video game that's wildly popular and rather than actually examining the player reviews or popular sentiment among users, they take the bare basics of the new game's mechanics and staple it onto something they know also sells well, if not just make a bare-bones copy with the aesthetics and basics of the thing players love but none of the actual quality or the tiny tidbits that make it work. Hence why so many games have crafting mechanics stapled onto them after Minecraft got popular, or why so many shooters hyperfocus on multiplayer (while not even maintaining a healthy user community by banning bots and toxic players). And of course, every few years there's another big wave of copycats trying to ride on the coattails of something else, like the MMORPG boom, the crafting boom, the GTA boom, and of course booms for first and third person shooters, and every single time the vast majority of titles trying to ride the coattails of something that was wildly successful end up dying out or fading into obscurity.
Sure, everyone knows about World of Warcraft, and plenty know about Final Fantasy 14, but who here remembers Rift? DC Universe Online? Dungeons and Dragons Online? The Lord of the Rings Online? Maplestory? Star Wars The Old Republic? (FYI, all of these are still playable today)
Sure, everyone knows Call of Duty, but who here remembers Transformers War For Cybertron? Star Trek Voyager Elite Force? Serious Sam? Star Wars Dark Forces?
Everyone remembers Mario 64 and Sonic Adventure, and lots remember Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank, but who remembers Ty the Tasmanian Tiger? Chibi-Robo? Tak and the Power of Juju? Gex? Ape Escape?
And heck, Pokemon has totally eclipsed nearly every single other franchise like it; Digimon is often seen as "that thing that tries to be pokemon but computers" (which it really isn't, it's older than pokemon and started out as a virtual pet, but some of the video games tried to be more like pokemon), and some hardcore fans still care about Shin Megami Tensei and are happy it got another release (again, predates pokemon), but who here remembers Medabots? Spectrobes? Dragon Quest Monsters? Dinosaur King? Monster Rancher? Zoids?
And I can go on! This is not a comprehensive list of these copycat games (many of which good on their own merits!), nor of the game booms that keep happening. And most of these games/franchises I listed ranged from fairly high quality to at least decent, it's just that they never got the popularity that the name-brand games of the same genre did. And we've seen in recent years that indie games have become wildly popular by trying to recreate many more niche genres, such as Project Zomboid being a true survival game, Stardew Valley being Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons but slightly less idealistic, and of course Minecraft, The Binding of Isaac, Celeste, Hollow Knight, Cuphead, Undertale, etc. And these all get so popular because they either try new things or polish an older but relatively niche genre until it shines. And that's something big companies typically refuse to do, because the ones in charge refuse to accept that they don't know what they're doing.
Baldur's Gate 3 owes at least some of its success to building off of decades of other CRPGs and utilizing one of the most popular tabletop gaming systems of all time (Dungeons and Dragons), but honestly, most of its popularity comes from the well written characters, the intriguing plot, the actual roleplaying aspect that makes dialogue feel like more than simply clicking an option, and the sheer variety of things you can accomplish in combat if you're paying attention or come up with something clever. It is, simply put, really polished, and that sort of attention to detail and love for what you make shines through, made all the better thanks to the high production value and Larian Studios having a ton of experience making CRPGs. And that scares most big studios' execs, because BG3's wild popularity means that players have tasted genuine passion and quality and attention to detail in a new high-budget game for the first time in years, and we don't want to settle for the same cookie-cutter generic repetitive junk big companies have been insisting is the best they can do.
The way Triple A game developers are reacting to Baldur's Gate 3 being seemingly an amazing game with no microtransactions reminds me of the reaction Triple A game developers reacted to Elden Ring being an amazing game with no microtransactions, which to me, is hilarious, because you'd think the reaction to seeing something groundbreaking and that's clearly beloved by the people who love and are immersed in the artform would be "Wow, incredible... Maybe we can learn from this and make a breakthrough, maybe we can redouble our efforts and take this as reference to make something fantastic ourselves!" and not "Well, You See, this game is bad for the industry because it's TOO good and it creates an expectation of quality and love (and no microtransactions), do not, my friends, become addicted to good video games. It will take hold of you, and you will resent their absence!"

Types of Video Games
What are the types of video games out there?
Here is a comprehensive list of the popular types of video games in the market today:
Action Games
Action games are those in which the player controls the game. They are at the centre of the action, and the game may consist of multiple physical challenges the player must overcome. A lot of the first Video games fell under the action category. These games are easy to play and get hooked on, so they are still a dominant genre in video games. These are further divided into categories such as:
Platformer
Shooter
Fighting
Beat-em up
Stealth
Survival
Rhythm
Action-Adventure Games
An action-adventure game incorporates two types of game mechanics, mainly a long quest that needs items and tools to be collected and action with the object used. Action adventure games usually focus on solving puzzles, exploring, discovering loot, and maybe some basic combat. That supports the overall experience. These types of games include:
Survival horror
Metroidvania

Hands-On Training: Practical exercises for real-world Game Art & Design challenges.
Industry-Expert Faculty: Learn from seasoned professionals.

Adventure Games
Adventure games can be categorized according to their gameplay style and not the content or the story. Technology has helped developers explore storytelling as a genre. Many adventure games have yet to move past being text adventures. In an adventure game, players interact with their environment and solve puzzles using clues. This type of games is divided into:
Text adventure
Graphic adventure
Visual novel
Interactive movie
Real-time 3D
Role-Playing Games
This is the second most popular game genre. players get to live out their fantasies with these games. Most of these games originated from the pen-and-paper game Dungeons and Dragons and hence feature medieval or other fantasy settings. As the gamer is often asked to make choices in this game, which affects the ending, these games usually have alternate endings.
Examples of role-play games include:
MMORPG
Sandbox RPG
Rouguelikes
Tactical RPG
Action RPG
First-person party-based RPG
Simulation Games
Most games under the simulation category are designed to imitate a real or fictional reality. They are based on an actual situation or an event. They are of three types:
Construction and management simulation
Vehicle simulation
Life simulation
Strategy Games
Strategy games are usually based on strategy board games; they give the player total access to a world and its resources. The player, in turn, has to develop a strategy and tactics that will help them overcome the challenges. In recent years these games have evolved from a turn-based gaming system to real-time gameplay in response to a player's feedback.
These are divided into:
4X
Artillery
Real-time strategy
Real-time tactics
Tower defence
Turn-based strategy
Multiplayer online battle arena
Turn-based tactics
Wargame
Grand strategy wargame

missed opportunity of okaasan online to just bring up that mamako had a famicom and played dragon quest as a child once and then never bring it up again, there's a lot of relatively easy jokes that wouldn't get in the way that could be derived from mamako trying to filter a hi-tech full dive vr mmorpg through the lens of dragon quest
unfortunately my impression of the show was that it needs you to know that mamako is stupid and clueless and powerful, and that can be funny too, but then they should have made it so that she had never played a video game before instead of bringing up dragon quest at the start
cuz like, if you understand dragon quest, you probably can grasp the basics of an mmorpg
not a big deal but again, it could have been a little better than it was, but i think most people enjoying that show just had a mommy thing rather than wanting a nuanced family drama inter-generational gaming comedy and i guess that's alright too

VPNs offer a range of benefits tailored to the unique needs of MMORPG enthusiasts, including Dragon Quest 10 players.
One of the primary advantages of using a VPN for Dragon Quest 10 is bypassing regional restrictions. Often, game publishers implement geo-blocks, limiting access to specific regions due to licensing agreements or content regulations. By connecting to a VPN server in a supported region, players can circumvent these restrictions and enjoy uninterrupted gameplay.
Moreover, VPNs offer enhanced security features, crucial for protecting sensitive gaming data and personal information. With cyber threats on the rise, including DDoS attacks and phishing attempts targeting gamers, VPN encryption provides an additional layer of defense against potential threats, safeguarding players' accounts and preserving their gaming progress.

By selecting VPN servers strategically located closer to game servers or with optimized routing paths, players can minimize lag and latency spikes, ensuring smoother gameplay and responsive controls.
Additionally, VPNs enable gamers to access game servers during maintenance periods or server downtime. By connecting to VPN servers in different time zones where the game servers remain operational, players can continue their gaming sessions without interruption, maximizing their playtime and progression.
In conclusion, VPNs offer numerous benefits for Dragon Quest 10 players, including bypassing regional restrictions, enhancing security, improving connection stability, and accessing game servers during maintenance. By incorporating a VPN into their gaming setup, players can elevate their gaming experience and immerse themselves fully in the captivating world of Dragon Quest 10.
Cybersecurity for online gaming
Title: Safeguarding Your Online Gaming Experience: Cybersecurity Measures
Online gaming has become an integral part of leisure activities for millions worldwide. However, with the rise in popularity comes an increased risk of cybersecurity threats. From personal data breaches to identity theft and financial fraud, gamers face various online risks. Implementing robust cybersecurity measures is crucial to protect both personal information and gaming experiences.
Firstly, using strong and unique passwords is fundamental. Avoid using easily guessable passwords or reusing them across multiple accounts. Instead, opt for complex combinations of letters, numbers, and symbols. Utilizing a password manager can streamline this process and enhance security.
Furthermore, enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of protection. This feature requires users to provide a secondary form of verification, such as a code sent to their mobile device, in addition to their password. While it may seem inconvenient, 2FA significantly reduces the likelihood of unauthorized access to accounts.
Regular software updates are essential in patching vulnerabilities that cybercriminals exploit. This applies not only to gaming platforms but also to operating systems, antivirus software, and other applications. Developers frequently release updates to address security flaws, so staying up-to-date is crucial.
Additionally, exercising caution when downloading and installing third-party software or mods is vital. Malicious programs disguised as game enhancements can compromise your system's security. Stick to reputable sources and verify the legitimacy of downloads to mitigate these risks.
Lastly, being wary of phishing attempts is paramount. Cybercriminals often impersonate gaming companies or fellow players to trick users into divulging sensitive information. Be skeptical of unsolicited emails or messages requesting login credentials or financial details.
In conclusion, prioritizing cybersecurity in online gaming is imperative for safeguarding personal information and preserving the integrity of the gaming experience. By adopting proactive measures such as strong passwords, 2FA, software updates, cautious downloading, and phishing awareness, gamers can enjoy their favorite pastime with peace of mind.
VPN necessity for MMORPGs
In the world of Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPGs), maintaining a secure and stable internet connection is crucial for an uninterrupted gaming experience. This is where Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) come into play as a necessary tool for gamers to enhance their online gaming sessions.
VPN technology allows gamers to connect to servers in different locations while encrypting their internet traffic. This encryption helps in protecting their data from potential cyber threats such as hacking, DDoS attacks, and identity theft. With these security measures in place, MMORPG players can enjoy a safer gaming environment and shield themselves from online vulnerabilities.
Moreover, VPNs offer a solution to reduce lag and latency issues that often plague online gaming. By allowing users to connect to servers closer to the game server location, VPNs can improve internet speed and reduce ping times. This means gamers can experience faster response times and smoother gameplay, giving them a competitive edge in intense gaming situations.
Additionally, VPNs enable access to geo-restricted game servers and content. Some MMORPGs may have regional restrictions on servers or exclusive in-game events limited to certain locations. By using a VPN to mask their IP address and connect to servers in different regions, players can bypass these restrictions and enjoy a wider gaming experience.
Overall, VPNs have become a necessary tool for MMORPG enthusiasts looking to enhance their online gaming security, performance, and accessibility. With the growing importance of internet privacy and connectivity in the gaming world, investing in a reliable VPN service is a wise decision for gamers aiming to level up their gaming experience.
Online gaming protection tips
In the digital age, online gaming has become increasingly popular, attracting millions of players worldwide. While online gaming offers countless hours of entertainment and social interaction, it also comes with certain risks, such as cyber threats and personal data breaches. To ensure a safe and secure gaming experience, it is essential to follow some protection tips:
Use strong and unique passwords: Creating strong and unique passwords for your gaming accounts can help prevent unauthorized access. Make sure to use a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters to enhance security.
Enable two-factor authentication: Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security by requiring users to provide a second form of verification, such as a code sent to their mobile device, in addition to their password.
Be cautious of phishing scams: Hackers often use phishing scams to trick gamers into revealing their personal information. Be wary of suspicious emails or messages asking for your login credentials or financial details.
Keep your software up to date: Regularly update your gaming platform, antivirus software, and operating system to patch security vulnerabilities and protect against malware and other online threats.
Avoid sharing personal information: Be cautious about sharing personal information, such as your full name, address, or financial details, with other players or on public forums.
By following these online gaming protection tips, you can enjoy a safe and secure gaming experience without compromising your personal information or falling victim to cyber attacks. Stay vigilant and prioritize your online security to make the most of your gaming adventures.
VPN advantages in gaming industry
In the gaming industry, where connectivity and security are paramount, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) offer a host of advantages. Let's delve into how VPNs enhance the gaming experience for enthusiasts worldwide.
Firstly, VPNs safeguard gamers' privacy and security by encrypting their internet traffic. This encryption prevents hackers from intercepting sensitive data such as login credentials or personal information, thereby ensuring a secure gaming environment.
Moreover, VPNs enable gamers to bypass geographical restrictions imposed by game developers or government regulations. By connecting to servers in different regions, players can access game servers and content that may be blocked in their own country, expanding their gaming options and experiences.
Furthermore, VPNs can reduce latency and improve connection stability by providing dedicated gaming servers optimized for speed and reliability. This is particularly beneficial for multiplayer gaming, where even milliseconds of delay can make a significant difference in performance.
Additionally, VPNs offer protection against Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, a common threat in online gaming. By masking the user's IP address and routing their traffic through secure servers, VPNs make it more difficult for attackers to target and disrupt gaming sessions.
Another advantage of VPNs in the gaming industry is the ability to access early game releases or exclusive content that may be limited to certain regions. By changing their virtual location with a VPN, gamers can gain early access to new releases and enjoy additional in-game perks not available in their region.
In conclusion, VPNs play a crucial role in enhancing security, accessibility, and performance in the gaming industry. By leveraging the benefits of VPN technology, gamers can enjoy a safer, more versatile, and ultimately more enjoyable gaming experience.

Game Research - Guild Wars 2
Guild Wars 2 is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by ArenaNet and published by NCSoft. It was released in August 2012 and has since become one of the most popular MMORPGs on the market. With a focus on cooperative gameplay, an immersive world, and a unique story-driven experience, Guild Wars 2 has attracted millions of players from all over the world. In this blog post, we will take a closer look at Guild Wars 2, exploring its features, gameplay, and unique selling points.
Gameplay
Guild Wars 2 is an MMORPG that is played in a persistent online world. Players create their character, choose their race, and profession, and then set out into the world to explore, complete quests, and engage in combat. One of the unique aspects of Guild Wars 2 is its emphasis on cooperative gameplay. Players can team up with others to complete quests, take on challenges, and participate in large-scale events.
One of the most notable features of Guild Wars 2 is its dynamic event system. Unlike other MMORPGs, where quests and events are static and repeatable, Guild Wars 2 features events that are dynamic and change in response to player actions. This means that events can have different outcomes depending on how players interact with them. The system is designed to encourage players to work together and to create a sense of shared accomplishment.
Another key feature of Guild Wars 2 is its combat system. The game features a real-time combat system that emphasizes movement and positioning. Players must use their skills and abilities to dodge attacks, block incoming damage, and deliver devastating blows to their enemies. The combat system is fast-paced and requires quick reflexes, making it a challenging but rewarding experience.
World and Story
Guild Wars 2 takes place in the world of Tyria, a fantasy setting with a rich history and lore. The game's story is set 250 years after the original Guild Wars, and follows the struggle of five races to prevent the return of an ancient dragon named Zhaitan. The story is told through a combination of questing, cutscenes, and scripted events, and is designed to be a compelling and immersive experience.
One of the unique aspects of Guild Wars 2's world is its emphasis on exploration. The world is vast and filled with hidden areas, secret locations, and easter eggs. Players are encouraged to explore every nook and cranny of the world, as there is always something new to discover. In addition to the main story, there are also numerous side quests, events, and activities that players can participate in.
Unique Selling Points
Guild Wars 2 has several unique selling points that set it apart from other MMORPGs on the market. One of the most notable is its buy-to-play model. Unlike other MMORPGs, which require players to pay a monthly subscription fee, Guild Wars 2 only requires a one-time purchase of the game. This has made the game more accessible to a wider audience and has helped to create a strong and dedicated player base.
Another unique selling point of Guild Wars 2 is its emphasis on player choice. Throughout the game, players are presented with choices that can have a significant impact on the story and world. These choices can affect the outcome of quests, events, and even the main storyline. This gives players a sense of agency and makes the game feel more immersive and personal.
Conclusion
Guild Wars 2 is a unique and immersive MMORPG that offers a compelling and dynamic world, challenging gameplay, and a rich story. With its focus on cooperative play, dynamic events, and player choice, Guild Wars 2 has attracted a dedicated and passionate community of players.

What kinda gamer is ThatLuckyBear?
This is a long post. So I'm into video games maybe a bit too much. Here's what I like:
Tetris + Dr. Mario (puzzle games): Core to my gaming spirit. I like to do speedruns of 0-21 on Dr. Mario 64 and I've been known to play 0-20 on Dr. Mario for the NES as well. I loved Tetris since NES but fell back in love with Tetris DS and now I mostly just do sprints on tetr.io. I'm also a 8 chain Puyo-Puyo scrub and I like the game but lack the energy to get better at it. Since this is kind of in the vein of puzzle solving the Ace Attorney games as well as oldschool Point and Click adventure games are wonderful for me as well.
Soulslike: These are all fun. I haven't played most of them though. Dark Souls 1 and Bloodborne are my favs and I've put a lot of time into Elden Ring but Miquella shut down my run and I haven't had time to grind it out. I'll finish it eventually though.
Metroidvania: Huge fan of the genre. Hollowknight is my favorite at time of writing but Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow is an ultra banger and I would have a hard time not mentioning it. I've played all the DS Castlevanias and I love them all.
Schlooters: Looting and shooting is fun. I play coop with my wife and we really enjoy Borderlands. We also had a good time with Outriders. Destiny 2 has been kinda tough to get into but we're trying to get a feel for it before investing any money.
MMORPGS: I've been doing these since 2003 if you can believe it. I was playing Ragnarok Online pre-beta by sneaking onto jRO. I really hit the road running with the iRO beta. Since then I've put a lot of love into Tera Online (Elin berserker just tickles my "hehe" bone, I had a popo too but Elin was the best imo) - I enjoyed FFXIV (Lala paladin) but it's too expensive for me to keep up with the monthly. I really wanna finish FFXIV's story someday. Phantasy Star Online, and Dungeon Fighter Online get a honorable mention but I really haven't had a chance to be in love with them since my MMO muscles are weak and my gaming time short in my age.
RPGS: Classic and modern I'm a big fan of RPGS. I've fallen in love with Dragon Quest recently although it was one of the first RPGS I played (Dragon Warrior NES.) I remember looking through Nintendo Power Magazine and looking at the illustrations and descriptions of the weapons and just getting SO JAZZED. Anyway Super Mario RPG is the best RPG of all time followed by Pokemon Blue/Red would be my call. I love modern Pokemon games but I haven't spent much time with others.
Action RPG: Monster Hunter, Yakuza (love but never played much,) Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil (2/4/7) and so many more. I'm a hunting horn main and I am head over heels for Monster Hunter and will always love it.
Competitive: I like to compete but I don't do it much because I have /emotional issues/ and I can't keep my lid on proper. That said I really have a great time playing Smash Ultimate (not a Melee guy sorry it's too hard for me) Street Fighter, Tekken, Granblue VS, and Smash are kind of the only ones I like playing these days. While I used to do a lot of FPS competitives I'm boycotting Actiblizzard so no COD or Overwatch til they remove Bobby Kotick. Valorant is too hard and time consuming but I love it (I'm bad at it sadly.) I might play Fortnite someday but idk if I'll get into it.
the COMF: I love some comfy games. Some of the above fit that category for me (Pokemon Red/Blue to be specific) but Stardew, Animal Crossing, anything Wholesome games, Minecraft, Stray etc. Anything that can make me sleepy usually fits me well.
Platformers: I get into some 3d mario games. I especially enjoyed Odyssey. I kind of get most of my platforming jazz out of the metroidvania stuff but I couldn't get through this without mentioning how much the 3d (and 2d for that matter) mario games matter to me.
There's obviously millions more games that I forgot and couldn't touch on. Day of Defeat was a formative competitive shooter experience as well as all the other HL1 mods I played. I could go on forever but I hope this helps you understand what kind of gamer I am. While I'm pretty eclectic in taste I'm also pretty formulated. These days I spend most of my time trying to find coop experiences to have with my wife so lmk if you've got some cool ones I should look into. 🧡

"Whom shall I choose for my next Lord of Chaos? So many willing candidates."
Featuring my digital art interpretation of Chaos Lord Drakath from AQ Worlds MMORPG.
Drakath is the Leader of the 13 Lords of Chaos.
He was an Undead Dragon in Dragon Quest.
His armor is purple and grey which is the combination of the primary colors of Swordhaven and Shadowfall, blua and white and red and black, respectively.
He was once the Champion of Order and was the leader of the 13 Lords of Order and the main defense in the world of Lore.
