We now know why Solas wears that stupid hat at the winter palace
Thank you to u/nouvlesse on Reddit who went through the wiki to find the reason
If you don’t wanna read it I’ll just say it here:
Basically the helmet was originally used in the Anderfels against Tevinter. And then there were rumors that Anders used it in his rebel against Orlesians before falling back into obscurity. Basically Solas was doing what he does best. Being a smug bastard.

actually i really don't fucking get the whole ''anders was better in awakening" circlejerk. "sealene you have posted about this several times already isn't it enough" NO IT IS NOT
anders in awakening is a cliche funnyman guy whose motivations aren't particularly interesting or compelling. oh he likes cats and doesn't like templars and wants a pretty girl. truly revolutionized writing. it doesn't help, of course, that awakening is only like 15 hours long if you do all the side content, and really none of the companions are that fleshed out.
idk man i don't have any screenshots or long professional essays about character analysis i'm not that kind of blogger. i'm just some guy who finds the da2 version of anders much, much more interesting and compelling as a character. "oh they ruined him in da2" it's called fucking character development?????????????
anders in dragon age II is far from being a flawless person. some might even say he is a bad person, and while i don't really agree to that, i do see where those people are coming from. but he is an interesting character, one that provokes heated discussion even 13 years after the game's release. how often is there any meaningful discussion regarding awakening anders that isn't just "hur dur he was better back then"?
i don't even dislike awakening anders he's a fun little guy wish he wasn't voiced by fucking greg ellis tho but come on man would this man really be an interesting companion in something longer than a 15 hours long dlc with very little companion interactions
edit: i have a feeling this post might breach containment so in case it does -- i wrote this while being kinda sleep deprived and without thinking too deep, i was just pissed at dragon age reddit being stuck in 2016. i could have articulated my point better and with less generalization towards daa anders but i won't bother rewriting the post now because most people likely won't see the new version anyway

It's cute that they think BioWare is going to be around long enough to make another game after Veilguard :')

I think when I play DATV It'll be in immense hibernation. I'm so sick of gamers that nitpick and complain about every little detail, constantly comparing it to previous games (or should i just say origins).
Some people need to realise that maybe the game isn't necessarily going to meet their insurmountable expectations.

DRAGON AGE VEILGUARD SPOILERS AHEAD
Finished veilguard after forty hours (sixty if I include the one I started then quit to change faction and class lol) and it feels ridiculous but I am devastated. ( warning this is long and rambling I’m just very upset)
This is the game I waited ten years for? For them to butcher characters like Solas and Morrigan and make crappy writing decisions that feel like a spiteful slap in the face to returning players? It’s like I was playing a game based on a fanfiction of dragon age.
Not to mention the absolute upheaval of lore established in previous games. Am I seriously expected to believe the entire Qun military just decided to up and leave? And that news of two ancient elven gods didn’t cause any sort of uprising or backlash against the elves? Speaking of elves, two gods from their pantheon they worship are out and about and evil and there’s hardly any reaction? Where are all the agents Solas had in Trespasser? Neve and Harding wake up physically in the fade and aren’t freaking out?
The thing that angers me the most though, is what they did to the south. I cannot believe they thought “hey let’s destroy the entire south and render every decision players have made up until this point meaningless!” and thought this was a good idea. It’s clear the devs want a clean slate for their next game, and man did they do it. May as well have let the blight destroy Fereldan, or let Corypheus win for all the good it did. I’m not even going to get started on Varric.
And that post credit scene. Way to take the nuance and choices away from basically every character and villain up until this point. Surprise! It was actually the evil guys across the sea all along! To me it’s the equivalent of writing in primary school and ending the story with “and then they woke up”.
As far as I’m concerned this is not canon. Real canon ended with Inquisition and when the writers who made it what it was left. As someone said on reddit, turns out dragon age without David Gaider isn’t dragon age at all.
Does it feel silly and ridiculous and over the top how upset I am? Yeah, it does. I know it’s just a game. I know there’s so much worse in the world. But these games and books have been a massive part of basically half my life now. They helped me get through some of the hardest things I’ve had to face , and were an outlet and escape and it almost feels like part of me. And to have it feel like it’s been ruined by writers and devs who don’t care about the players or past games really sucks.
Time to replay the first three and pretend this never happened, and just accept that it’ll never be known what happens after Inquisition, unless David Gaider decides to save us from this misery and write a book or something.
(also fyi, not a criticism to those who enjoyed it, I’m glad there’s some people having fun at least )

"the dread wolf isnt prey, he's a friend.... at least he was, but now he's... I don't know, misguided"
Man it still shocks me (in the best way) that multiple people in the Inquisition care about Solas. This isn't just a Lavellan thing. Solas had multiple friends!! People who care about him and love him. Varric still wants to save him, Harding still cares about him.
I love Solas but in the DA reddit there's a lot of Solas haters and i got influenced by their view that Solas arrogantly kept to himself and really only bonded with a Lavellan that agreed with him but that's not true!!
I'm just so emotional that the DA marketing is coming from a sympathetic view of Solas bc i adore him and it makes me so damn hopeful.

Honestly the Veilguard discussion is off the rails. It's a decent game. There are parts that are better and parts that I think could have been reworked. Some characters definitely are more fleshed out than others. The amount of reactivity and companion conflict is way larger than people were claiming. And I still think the conflicts could have been handled a little better in some cases. But overall, it's very fun. A solid 8/10 so far. Why does everything need to be either game of the century or hot steaming garbage with nothing in between, can't a game just be solid and fun to play.

reading sotha sil meta and accidentally making solas and seht connections u couldnt possibly imagine
“I think the problem with that reading is the fact that the game is pretty clear that Sotha Sil is already doing 100% of what he can do for the best, it's simply that 99% of people don't have the same divine foresight or live long enough to see the result of his weird and often terrible actions.”
“That's the tragedy of Sotha Sil - he has omniscience without omnipotence. He bears absolute certainty about all possible outcomes and because he wants to do good, then he WILL do good. Problem is that with his perspective it's "good" in the incredibly longterm, spanning thousands of years and unseen by 99% of people living in his world. He does a lot of morally dubious stuff all for the sake of the best possible future. And not a future he just hopes for, but a future he KNOWS that exists and KNOWS exactly how to reach it. Which is why when describes his omniscience and asks you if you know what he means, then he pities you if you say yes and envies you if you say no. Because his greatest dream is simply doing good without being forced to do objectively correct choices that will lead a happy ending, but are absolutely awful in the hindsight. But he can't, because he already knows, and throwing it all away would mean dooming the world to all these unseen threats.”
“...And, because it's TES and a member of the Tribunal, it's also a commentary on the mindset of certain players. I'm talking, of course, of people who spoil themselves on the outcome of every decision in the RPG and instead of roleplaying their character, they simply choose things that will get them the best possible ending. That's Sotha Sil. He's the guy who in Dragon Age Origins will make the king a guy who killed his own brothers and father, because the ending says that the kingdom will thrive under his rule and stop the stupid dwarven isolationism, while under the well-meaning lord who only wants to become a king punish that other guy for his crimes will be ultimately a weak ruler and the kingdom will completely cut itself off from the outside world. That's what Sotha Sil is - he knows the entire "walkthrough" for the TES world and will always make the choices that will give him the best possible ending.”

roughly 20 hours into veilguard and man, this game is bizarre. i love the combat and am having a blast exploring and doing side quests, but then it completely fails on all the aspects that i most care about in a dragon age game (characters, roleplaying, worldbuilding, story). the writing is so painfully surface-level that it no longer even feels like the same series.
