Been thinking a lot about Nico who obtains Godhood, through Will's eyes.
Will, who has always found that Nico and Percy share far more similarities than they realized, or wanted to realize.
Will who, of course, hadnt been there when it actually happened, but he had heard the story, he remembered it very well.
Percy Jackson had been offered inmortality, power, Godhood, by the Olympians, and he had turned it down. He had chosen Annabeth, and Camp, and humanity, instead of the Gods.
So, when Nico found himself in much the same predicament, with Hades offering him Godhood, already approved by the rest of the pantheon, Will had remained by, still, but not truly scared.
He had watched Nico receive the news, completely stunned, then slowly, turn to look at Will's face, just like Will had heard Percy had done with Annabeth.
Nico looked at him, like he was the only thing that existed, for only one minute, then Nico had given out his answer.
Nico looked away from Will.
Nico held out his hand, to grab his father's extended palm. He decidedly nodded.
A yes.
Will heard blood, and something else, that he should probably remember, he was supposed to be a doctor, be Nico's doctor, be with Nico, ringing in his hears, like static.
Nico had something to the effect of "Of course, Father." Followed by something else, about working together forever, a Lieutenant of something, helping Thanatos and Zagreus, Will barely recognized them.
Will just couldn't find it in himself to listen, couldn't find it in himself to understand anything.
Everything he knew: Is that now he had effectively lost Nico, for all of eternity, and all in the matter of a few minutes.
Later on, when the shock was finally, almost, wearing off, Will realized, he had had almost expected Nico to say no. Almost.
Just like Percy had said no, but the grand flaw in his reasoning, was that, at the end of the day, for all their similitudes and shared experiences, Percy and Nico were two fundamentally different people, down to their core.
Will wanted to laugh. They didn't even say goodbye.
