Members of former President Donald Trump’s “inner circle,” including Lara and Eric Trump, are scheduled to appear at a North Carolina event featuring right-wing commentators who have pushed the conspiracy theory that Hurricane Helene was a controlled or manipulated weather event. The tour’s organizers, who have close ties to the Trump team, have claimed that “weather manipulation is real” and said the recent storm proves “the globalists are pulling out all the stops.” The government did not control or manipulate the deadly hurricane. Such claims have caused significant harm to officials and first responders who are working on recovery efforts in North Carolina. 

Clay Clark and Mike Flynn — who served as Trump’s national security adviser — are co-founders of the “ReAwaken America” tour. Their next stop is on October 18 and 19 in Selma, North Carolina. A promotional flyer for the event lists numerous Trump allies and surrogates as scheduled speakers, including Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump, Eric Trump, Rudy Giuliani, Kash Patel, Peter Navarro, Alina Habba, Christina Bobb, Devin Nunes, and Roger Stone. (Clark said on October 11 that Lara Trump would be in attendance.)  ReAwaken America has a toxic history: Media Matters previously documented that the tour has featured at least five Hitler-promoting antisemites.  Clark, who organizes the tour, has billed the North Carolina event as featuring “basically President Trump’s inner circle.” He made similar remarks before, including saying that “Trump's inner circle is now going, they're all reaching out to our tour, to the ReAwaken America tour.” 

The Trump inner circle (Alina Habba, Eric Trump, Lara Trump, and Peter Navarro, et al.) is set to speak at the ReAwaken America Tour in North Carolina later this month alongside far-right conspiracy-addled whackadoos.

Giving your child a vaccination is like injecting foreign matter into a little baby—the most precious little thing in your life.”

I’ve become much more vigilant regarding my gluten-free and dairy-free choices. By so doing, I have necessarily become much more conscious about label-reading. I have noticed that almost everything I look at that is not a whole food, from soups to crackers, has this on the label: “Contains bioengineered food ingredients.” What is THAT!? What does that mean?

The Process

The first genetically modified food brought to market was a tomato. In 1994, the FDA approved FLAVR SAVR tomatoes to be sold to the general public. Created and marketed by Calgene, Inc. in Davis, California, the tomato was engineered to stay firm after harvest, allowing it to stay on the vine longer before picking and shipping.  The project failed because, while extra firm, it was expensive and not as flavorful as other tomato varieties. It was discontinued in 1997.

Throughout the late 1990s, a wave of GMO products became available to consumers, and the technology has drastically outpaced regulation. The Agrochemical corporations, led by Monsanto,�� engineered a handful of commodity crops to withstand the weedkiller, glyphosate, found in products such as Roundup, Glyphomax, Durango, Touchdown (Syngenta), and many home garden products. The success of these HT (herbicide tolerant) crops led to deregulation that allowed the commercialization and release of HT canola in 1998 and of HT alfalfa and sugar beets in 2005. Two decades later, countless Biotech players are working on an almost endless list of new products.
