How Do You Reach Trump Voters Who Say They Don't Want The Vaccine? Try Doctors
Finding the right message — and right messengers — to persuade skeptical conservatives to get the COVID-19 vaccine has become an urgent concern for public health experts pushing to contain the coronavirus. หวย บอล เกมส์ สล็อต กีฬา คาสิโนออนไลน์
Polls show nearly half of people who voted for former President Donald Trump in November say that if they are offered a vaccine for COVID-19, they won't get it. That hesitancy could be a major barrier to reaching herd immunity.
A recent focus group conducted by longtime Republican pollster Frank Luntz shows it will be tough to break through. But there are ways to do it.
For those developing campaigns to get enough people vaccinated that the virus runs out of room to spread, this challenge is commanding a lot of attention. Breaking through with this population could be key to a return to some semblance of normal.
SHOTS - HEALTH NEWS
How Herd Immunity Works — And What Stands In Its Way
"We found, and the White House is very aware, that the largest correlation to vaccine hesitancy is actually being a conservative," said John Bridgeland from the COVID Collaborative, which is working on this issue with the Biden administration. "We actually need to get a lot of that population engaged in getting a vaccine to reach herd immunity."
Take Jen from Iowa, one of 19 participants in Luntz's focus group, which was sponsored by the de Beaumont Foundation, a nonpartisan group with a public health focus.
Article continues after sponsor message
She and her husband both recently had the virus, and he spent three weeks in an intensive care unit. "For us personally, I don't know, I really am highly doubtful we'll ever get vaccinated for this, even though it almost killed him," Jen said in the early minutes of the Zoom session, which used first names only.
Luntz said the focus group members had two things in common. "You all voted for Donald Trump in 2020 and you all expressed at least some hesitation of getting the COVID vaccine," Luntz said. "So you represent about 30 million people."
THE CORONAVIRUS CRISIS
Majority Approves Of Biden's Handling Of Pandemic, NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist Poll Finds
In fact, the NPR/PBS Newshour/Marist poll last week found 47% of Trump voters said they would turn down a vaccine. By way of comparison, among Biden voters, only 10% said they wouldn't get vaccinated.
New data from a poll Luntz conducted found younger Republicans will be more of a challenge to reach than those who are older. He says it's not about the grandparents. It is about the parents and their adult children, those aged 18-49, who are less afraid of the virus and more skeptical of the vaccine.
Early on, Luntz asked participants to briefly share their thoughts on the vaccines and it was a cascade of doubt. "Rushed." "Unsure." "Experimental." "Scary not knowing long-term side effects."
Jen from Iowa went last, describing the vaccines as "untrustworthy."
"Oh my God," Luntz responded, acknowledging he and the others he invited to the focus group to test persuasion messaging had their work cut out for them.
Distrust was a running theme: a lack of faith in institutions, the government, and the media. "It's sad because I don't know who to trust and that's not the America I grew up in," said Chad from Minnesota.
They talked about valuing freedom and said the pandemic has been used to manipulate and control people. Patrick from Tennessee, who like several in the group has had COVID-19 himself, said people are panicking for no reason.
"It's amazing how many people who should know better have fallen into the trap of being afraid to go in a restaurant, to be around their family, 'I've got to wear a mask. Now I've got to wear two masks.' Logical people that you thought were intelligent people have just bought the hype," Patrick said.

Biden Administration To Meet Goal Of 100 Million Vaccine Doses On Friday
As for the vaccine, David from Texas hit on a core concern among the group. "My fear of the vaccine is more than my fear of getting the illness," he said.
Luntz asked for a show of hands on who agreed with David's statement. Almost everyone raised their hands.
Over the course of the more than two-hour session, Luntz brought in various doctors and politicians to try different arguments on the group.
Dr. Tom Frieden, the former CDC director, said he wasn't there to convince them, just to share facts. He explained how vaccines like the ones from Pfizer and Moderna work, saying it was like an email delivering a "most-wanted poster" to your immune system so it knows how to combat the coronavirus.
"And then poof, like a disappearing message it disappears," Frieden said, gently dispelling a conspiracy theory making the rounds online. "It's not in your body. It's gone."
He admitted what he didn't know, acknowledging where there is scientific uncertainty, and presented a set of five facts about COVID-19 and the vaccines.
Frieden described the potential long-term effects that the virus could have on people, arguing that although not everything is known, he is confident the virus is a greater long-term risk than the vaccine.
"More than 95% of the doctors who have been offered this vaccine have gotten it as soon as they can," said Frieden, in a point that seemed to particularly resonate with the group.
At one point, Luntz asked the participants about who they thought would be a better messenger about getting a vaccine. "You've got to choose: Donald Trump or your own doctor — who's going to have a greater impact on whether or not you get the vaccine?" Luntz asked.
All 19 said their own doctor would be more influential. That surprised Luntz, who expected Trump would be more influential. In the end, though, the focus group confirmed for him that when it comes to vaccines, it is such a personal decision that people don't want politicians anywhere near it.
The focus group took place before Trump delivered a pro-vaccine message in an interview with Fox News. This came less than a week after the Ad Council released an ad featuring all the living ex-presidents other than Trump talking about getting their shots and encouraging others to do so. Luntz played it for the group.
But they panned it. "It was kind of like propaganda, actually," said Brian from Florida.
"It actually kind of annoyed me," said Debbie from Georgia.
When asked if having Trump in the ad would have helped, the response was swift. "Not a bit," said one participant whose voice rose over the cacophony.
"A lot of us don't trust this because it's been politicized from the very beginning and now they're trying to get a lot of politicians to tell us what to do," said David from Texas.
Bridgeland, who was involved in making the ad, said he was proud of it and argued it was more about setting a tone of bipartisanship in the nation around the vaccines. His fear is that vaccines could become politicized like masks did last spring. But he's thrilled Trump, who received his vaccine in private, has now offered a full-throated endorsement.
His organization is working with the Biden administration and people and groups from an incredibly broad spectrum of perspectives to push out other more-tailored messaging to persuade people to get vaccines. That includes partnering with health care providers, religious leaders and people who are trusted in their communities.
THE CORONAVIRUS CRISIS
Misinformation And Mistrust Among The Obstacles Latinos Face In Getting Vaccinated
SHOTS - HEALTH NEWS
How Is The COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign Going In Your State?
Luntz's focus group confirms much of what the White House and Bridgeland have found as well. People's doctors are far better messengers than politicians, celebrities or the media, especially when it comes to Trump voters. The White House is expected to launch an expansive public persuasion campaign soon, but it's not clear how many of the details they will get into, in part because they know there are a lot of people who don't want to hear a message that they know is coming from the Biden administration.
During the focus group session, more overt political appeals fell flat. Science and personal stories hit a chord.
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie talked about his personal experience with the coronavirus.
"You all know how I got it," Christie said. "I went into what was supposed to be the safest place in America. The White House."
Christie caught COVID-19 during debate preparation sessions at the White House in late September. All but one person in the room ended up coming down with the virus, including President Trump. Trump was hospitalized for a few days. Christie, who is obese and asthmatic, was in intensive care for a week. But, he also said a much younger aide got very sick.
The message he tried to drive was about the randomness of it all. It's not always easy to predict who gets really sick and who doesn't. He talked about his cousin and her husband, in their early 60s. She was a smoker, but he was active and physically fit.
"They both ended up getting hospitalized and two weeks ago they both passed away," Christie said. One of the participants audibly gasped, explaining she wasn't expecting him to say they had died.
At the end, Luntz asked the participants to reflect on what they had learned. Most had moved closer to getting the vaccine, including Jen from Iowa, who said she was now "a 7 out of 10" for getting it.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and two doctors who are in Congress — Rep. Brad Wenstrup from Ohio and Sen. Bill Cassidy from Louisiana — also spoke to the group.
But in the end, most participants said they were most persuaded by Frieden, who served as CDC director in the Obama administration; and Christie, who kept his pitch personal and told them "politicians screw up almost everything we touch."
"We want to be informed we don't want to be emoted to," said Adam from New York. "We want to be educated, not indoctrinated."
Luntz says he thinks there is a message that can reach Trump supporters, but those making the pitch have to keep politics out of it. He imagines a 60-second spot with a doctor and a patient talking about their experiences, with facts about the safety of the vaccines up on the screen.

#TBT ‘The Twilight Saga’ Stars: Where Are They Now?
by Sandy Perez- 2 days ago
Link: http://hiddenremote.com/2017/03/09/twilight-stars-where-are-they-now/
‘The Twilight Saga’ film series launched the stars’ careers. Well, most of them. Here’s what the cast of the franchise are up to today, five years after wrapping up their lives in Forks, Washington.
Twilight kicked off its frenzy nearly nine years ago on November 21, 2008, with its first installment. Feeling old yet? The highly popular vampire/human love story became an instant mega hit and concluded five years ago on November 16, 2012 with Breaking Dawn: Part 2.
If you don’t admit you fell in love with the Twilightfranchise, you can at least admit the movies were a guilty pleasure of yours. But let’s be honest, it wasn’t the stellar performances or brilliant writing and story that drew us to Edward Cullen and Bella Swan’s love, it was something else.
What else? Who knows! I suppose there was something about forbidden love and vampires that made young adults go crazy. But also, who cares? It was fun at the time and provided a momentary escape from the real world, which is what movies are supposed to do.
So whether you were Team Edward, Team Jacob, or Team Bella, there’s no shame!
From the Twilight cast, two stars have become incredibly successful, and they’re both female! Others have found success on TV. One of them is currently drivingThe Walking Deadfans crazy. Can you guess who?
Curious about what your favoriteTwilightstars have been up to? Wonder no more! While several have launched a successful career following their days onTwilight, many have not been able to.
Bella Swan and Edward Cullen
Kristen Stewart
Since her Twilight days, leading lady Kristen Stewart has successful been the star of several other popular movies. And can we also not forget her highly successful gig at Saturday Night Live? Thanks for the laughs, KStew!
Almost immediately following the final Twilight chapter, Breaking Dawn: Part 2, Stewart starred in Snow White and the Huntsman. And yeah, we all know the cheating scandal that surfaced quickly after and during that film’s release, but both Kstew and Robert Pattinson have moved on so… Other notable films starring Kristen Stewart include Still Alice, American Ultra, and Personal Shopper — and there are plenty projects KStew is wrapping up!
Robert Pattinson
Initially, it appeared Robert Pattinson had found success after Twilight, but what has he even been up to? Not as much as you would think.
After taking a two-year break (which was probably a mistake), Pattinson starred in The Rover in 2014. A few other small films include Life, The Lost City of Z, and Maps to the Stars. Pattinson does have a few movies lined up for later this year and 2018, let’s hope those are a hit.
Taylor Lautner aka Jacob Black
Lautner had a small role in Grown Ups 2, credited only as Frat Boy Andy. Since then, Taylor Lautner aka Jacob Black has starred in Tracers, The Ridiculous 6 and Run the Tide. I know what you’re thinking, you probably haven’t heard much about those movies, but let’s not feel too bad for Lautner.
The young actor starred as Dr. Cassidy Cascade in Fox’s Scream Queens. And while that was also not a highly successful gig, Lautner found love with his co-star Billie Lourd, and isn’t that everyone’s goal in life? Love?
Lautner and Lourd are enjoying their time together right now and don’t have a lot lined-up, which is understandable after Lourd’s mother (Carrie Fisher) and grandmother’s (Debbie Reynolds) passing. Best wishes for the cute couple!
The Cullens
Peter Facinelli aka Dr. Carlisle
You have probably seen Facinelli make small appearances in several popular TV shows. Some of these include Glee, Nurse Jackie, and The CW’s Supergirl.
Elizabeth Reaser aka Esme
Reaser has had guest roles in Mad Men, True Detective and Bonnie & Clyde. She also starred in the small film Hello, My Name is Doris.
Ashley Greene aka Alice Cullen
One would think this beauty would be seen in more movies and TV series’, but Greene hasn’t been too involved in the industry. She stars as Mia in the series Rogue, and also has three films in post-production, Max & Me, Antiquities, and Accident Man.
Nikki Reed aka Rosalie Hale
Much like her former co-star Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed has stayed away from the spotlight. The actresses’ role as Betsy Ross in Sleepy Hollow is probably the most notable from her projects since Twilight.
Kellan Lutz aka Emmet Cullen
Lutz’s career appeared promising, especially after scoring the role of Hercules in The Legend of Hercules. But, unfortunately, that movie was a flop. Kellan Lutz can also be seen in The Expendables 3 and The Comeback TV series.
Jackson Rathbone aka Jasper Cullen
I had high hopes for Jackson Rathbone, my personal favorite Cullen, but he has yet to find the role which will catapult his career. You can see Rathbone in Cowgirls ‘n Angels, Until We Meet Again, and the TV series Finding Carter.
Bella’s Besties
Christian Serrato aka Angela It wasn’t until a couple of years after Breaking Dawn: Part 2 that Christian Serrato’s found a role just right for her — The Walking Dead‘s Rosita! Sure, she’s a bit of a headache right now, but let’s hope Rosita survives and makes up for her attitude.
The Walking Dead has kept Serrato so busy, this is her only project after Twilight (the actress did star in Pop Star and Flight 7500, but those are small projects).
Anna Kendrick aka Jessica
Who saw this coming? Unsuspecting Angela is one of the two (Kristen Stewart is the other star) stars who have become highly successful after Twilight.
Comedy, drama, singing, Anna Kendrick can do it all!
Kendrick has appeared in one too many projects to list, but some of her best films include Drinking Buddies, Into the Woods, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Trolls, The Accountant, the Pitch Perfect franchise, and Table 19. See? I told you there are several!
Up next for Kendrick is Trolls 2 and Pitch Perfect 3 — which we can’t wait for!

FOX’s Scream Queens Season 2, Episode 10: “Drain the Swamp” Directed by Ian Brennan Written by Brad Falchuk & Ian Brennan
* For a review of the penultimate Season 2 episode, “Lovin the D” – click here Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts) is confronted by the Green Meanie again. She’s trapped in one of the hospital’s dark hallways, as the killer has a baseball throwing machine aimed right at, running full speed. Chanel ducks and dodges, until one of the newest Chanels takes a ball right in the head. Luckily, she’s not dead. Chanel #1 gets away, and we see it’s Ingrid Hoffel (Kirstie Alley) behind the mask. At the same time Chanel #3 (Billie Lourd) is sneaked up on by the remaining Green Meanie, Cassidy Cascade (Taylor Lautner). But he doesn’t kill his love. They both want to try and convince his mother Jane (Trilby Glover) otherwise. So #3 runs off for a “whore‘s bath” so they can bang, and Cascade threatens Hoffel: leave his girl out of it, or face his wrath. Things between the Meanies aren’t looking good. Uh oh. Dr. Brock Holt (John Stamos) apologises for the hand’s actions, nearly strangling her to death, although Chanel doesn’t think much of it, other than it’s progress in their relationship. Yikes. Meanwhile, Hester (Lea Michele) is still kicking around. She’s scheming over Cathy Munsch’s (Jamie Lee Curtis) fortune, who is on the verge of dying. Hester wants Brock to help her steal all her money, then they’ll run off together: “Just two murderers with no one to murder except for each other, but we never will because we love and trust each other.” What could go wrong, right? Out in the garden, Ingrid gets some nasty ideas when one of the new Chanels is fertilising the tomato garden. Explosive substances. Green Meanie. Murderous impulse. You know what’s coming. Also, Chanel mixes up the fact Brock is looking at engagement rings for a pending marriage proposal. Only when Dr. Holt calls everyone to Cathy’s room, where she’s lying waiting for death to come, he proposes to the former Ms. Munsch, soon to be the new Mrs. Holt. But he works on Chanel behind the scenes, too. He strings her along. Cassidy and #3 talk with his mother Jane. He tells her that the “killing and revenge stuff” is all her thing. However, mom isn’t so willing to let all that go. She doesn’t want it to stop until the job is done. So the wedding of Brock and Cathy goes ahead, right there at the CURE Institute. They’re now officially husband and wife. Then as they snuggle later, Chanel #5 (Abigail Breslin) comes in with information saying that maybe Munsch isn’t dying. She wants to get a sample of her brain, to test for sure. And though Brock isn’t thrilled, Cathy wants more time to be with her new husband.
Downstairs, Denise Hemphill (Niecy Nash) is still in cryogenic storage. And Ingrid is down snooping around. She gets a call from Jane, who has her own secrets with Zayday (Keke Palmer) trapped in her cellar. “Now it‘s just you and me,” she says. But Ingrid’s more interested in her latest plan to kill the Chanels. Things at the hospital are getting tense with Hester wanting Brock to kill Cathy. She doesn’t want to go back to prison where she has to “draw porn” so she can masturbate. Not to mention Chanel can’t deal with Brock and Munsch together, no matter what fairy tale he spun for her earlier. Later, the biopsy goes ahead. Cathy sings “Smoke on the Water” while Chanel plots on throwing her pumpkin spice latte into Cathy’s open skull, which doesn’t work as planned. Now the verdict: no evidence of the nasty disease, but it’s inconclusive. And she’s still going to die. Maybe. Could even be extreme dehydration. Silly, no? “I only drink scotch, or vodka,” Cathy gasps in a hilarious moment of revelation. She even rinses out her toothpaste mouth with scotch. She goes on to find out the brain eating wasn’t human brain; it was lamb. She’s not going to die! Everybody heads to the basement for a celebration, champagne included. But it’s all a trick by Ingrid. She traps them in a cage downstairs. She reveals to them all her identity, sister of Agatha Bean who was accidentally burned alive in the deep fryer during Season 1. Out of nowhere Zayday arrives, alongside Jane who doesn’t want to keep on killing after seeing the CURE Institute’s good work. Only Ingrid guns her down, and they’re all left in no better position than before. She further reveals a huge fertiliser bomb, leaving them to die. Afterwards, Denise is alive! And she’s hilariously missed a few things while in her cryogenic coma. Waiting for Denise to defuse the bomb, #5 finally admits she does have teeth in her vagina: “I didn‘t want to die a liar.”
Upstairs the crew chase down Ingrid. They head out back into the swamp. There, Cascade takes a machete right in his torso trying to save #3. In the forest Ingrid runs through a patch of muddy ground which slowly sucks her into the earth. Nobody helps. Until Munsch suddenly feels her conscience tug. She tries to save the woman, but the mud suffocates her and sucks her to the bottom. Everything is over, and the Chanels have made it through alive. A little worse for wear. You know them, though. They’re bouncing back. #5 is doing her thing at the hospital; she and Zayday are essentially running the place. Munsch hit a rough patch when she finds out someone cleaned out her bank accounts – Hester, of course, who took off with Dr. Holt to an exotic beach on Blood Island. Where they play The Most Dangerous Game. Munsch went on to become a sex expert, like you didn’t see that coming after all her friskiness. And Chanel, she went on to become a TV doctor with #3 as her executive producer on Lovin the C. So it looks like things have progressed for them after being hunted by the Red Devil killer, the Green Meanie(s). Things are back on track in their lives.
Or are they? One night as Chanel leaves the television studio, she finds a small broach in her car inscribed KKT. Who’s that in the backseat? It’s the Red Devil.
Wow, loved this episode, and loved that final scene! Didn’t expect it, honestly. Works great and maybe gives us something to expect for Season 3, which hopefully is on the radar for FOX. What did you all think about Season 2? I thought Season 1 was spectacular, and I’ve felt that Season 2 got even funnier, weirder, and wilder. Overall, a solid season. Let me know your thoughts, and if you want another season with the Chanels, Cathy Munsch, and that sneaky Red Devil. Scream Queens – Season 2, Episode 10: “Drain the Swamp” FOX's Scream Queens Season 2, Episode 10: "Drain the Swamp" Directed by Ian Brennan…
