and yknow what since i am a self proclaimed as of this very instant a markiplier lore historian here's some more under the cut

i use some acronyms so if you don't know: adwm = a date with markiplier ahwm = a heist with markiplier iswm = in space with markiplier wkm = who killed markiplier wmlw = wilford motherlovin warfstache waia = warstache automated interview automaton

also for clarification: "mark" refers to markiplier, while "actor mark" refers to the character with the same name. confusing at first, i know, but this was decided in the fandom long before c! and cc! became popular terms

mark has stated any video before wkm should be taken with a grain of salt, as the backstory for the characters hadn't been written yet

expanding on "relax" - in this video dark wears a skull t-shirt with a white tie over it. dark wears the same outfit in the bloopers video for a heist with markiplier.

"don't blink," "don't move," and "relax" are confirmed darkiplier - at least to an extent - as adwm links back to all three of these videos.

the path to the darkiplier ending of adwm is pay -> horror -> freedom -> left

the path to the darkiplier ending of ahwm is all sneaky like -> dark tunnel -> don't split up -> don't split up -> split up

the path to the wilford ending of ahwm is guns blazing -> helicopter -> charm the guards -> whats that -> oh hell no -> stick to the plan -> open the box

i do not have the path to wilford's cameos in part 1 nor 2 of iswm memorized, apologies

dark appears in a post-credits scene of the true ending of iswm part 2, where he repeats a line he says in heist.

clarifying what i meant for the damien video - darkiplier is made up of the souls of damien and celine, as well as a demon, all in the corpse of the district attorney. the video takes place within their mind- where damien is stuck in a time loop so as to be kept unaware of what celine is doing.

the timeline of the series is all over the place, as different events happen in different orders to different people. the only things set in stone are that wkm comes first, and wmlw, the damien video, and one section of iswm 2 take place at the same time.

markiplier tv had been largely written off as non-canon, as it features many characters aside from dark and wilford that mark has stated he won't return to, plus it was made before wkm. however, in iswm part 2, stan the water man looks through a collection of books that have thumbnails of previous videos as the covers, one of which is markiplier tv. this has caused me, personally, a lot of frantic confusion.

iswm is full of lots of references to previous works- the aforementioned thumbnails, stan the water man appearing, heehoo appearing, the jims returning, a reference to the romance or horror choice of adwm, captain magnum, illinois, and yancy reappearing, the mask from wmlw, a scene from wmlw being continued, abe reappearing, and more

there's even references to other people's work that mark is friends with- the schmoyoho space is cool remix, dr cecil hh mills, ninja sex party, game theory, and i'm sure more that aren't immediately popping into my mind

in a date with markiplier, the horror play you can see is called "the dark mark." in a heist with markiplier, yancy's knuckle tattoos also say "dark mark." this is probably a coincidence.

speaking of yancy's tattoos, in heist his arm tattoo is a map of the choices you can make in heist. in space, his arm tattoos are maps of the choices you can make in parts one and two, and his knuckles now read "warp core." on his neck is a tattoo of tiny box tim, a reference to markiplier's amnesia play through.

mark has stated on a live stream that, if the audience wants for yancy's tattoos to be magical and change depending on the universe, then it's canon.

the other characters in markiplier tv and the videos they're from are as follows the silver shepherd = super infidelity (cyndago) dr. iplier = worst news doctor (cyndago) the host (formerly known as the author) = danger in fiction 1 & 2 (cyndago) googleiplier = google IRL & google gets an upgrade ed edgar = ed edgar's adoptallott's baby bulk buy (cyndago) bim trimmer = hire my ass (cyndago) king of the squirrels = king of the squirrels & king of the squirrels returns

all of this and more living in my mind rent free!

So in 2012 Markiplier uploaded a short video called “Don’t blink” in which he stares ominously at the camera without speaking as a distorted version of his face appears in the background. A month later he posted a similar video called “Don’t move.” Fans decided to create a character based on these videos called “Darkiplier” as in “Dark Markiplier” and came up with lots of headcanons and designs and stuff for this non-existent character, that is, until 2017 when A Date With Markiplier made him canon and Who Killed Markiplier gave him a backstory.

i have borne witness to many a game grumps scandal over the years (some of them significantly more legitimate than others) but my personal favorite was "arin's marketing ploy for his book is taking advantage of fans from abusive homes"

and then when you look into it, what actually happened was that they were publishing a YA mystery novel, and arin said it was written by his uncle, Dr. Cecil HH Mills, who he hated, but his mom was making him help advertise the book. and i guess people were like "well i come from a bad family and MY mom made me do stuff i really didnt want to do, and that was abusive of her, so i really felt for arin being forced to do stuff and then it turned out it was all a trick!!!! he was trying to take advantage of me!!!!!" like girl i think maybe you just blew things out of proportion.....

imo it just kinda falls into the same category for me as like. when people who are really online dont have a lot of experience with offline relationships, and fall into really strict black and white thinking about what is okay?? like when you say "my boyfriend forced my to watch spy kids 2" and people are like "your boyfriend is abusive. you should never force anyone to do anything" like babe its not that serious.... sometimes when you love people you do things for them that you dont really wanna do but arent really worth sticking to your guns about. i never wanna play horror games with my partner, but they think its fun and i think its fun that theyre having fun, so i will do it. sometimes my dad wants me to call my grandma, and i dont like talking to my grandma because shes annoying, but i would rather just do it than dig in my heels and refuse.

how stories seem to work here is interesting. multiple times, someone starts telling one, and suddenly, reality shifts to become it.

stan goes through all the projects at the beginning, and then lets you choose which story you want to enter. dr. cecil hh mills is Like That. at the campsite, if you ask for a scary story, mark starts describing “Hunted by Heehoo” before things glitch and then you’re in it. and that’s just the examples off the top of my head.

throughout all of these, too, mark becomes a character: he doesn’t seem to realize what’s happening, unless you remind him. and then slowly, he remembers the truth.

i think there’s a lot to be said here about The Lore, and i probably will later. but can i just say, between this and that dialogue in Hold On: major DAMIEN vibes off of this.

         dr.  cecil  hh  mills  was  originally  recruited  to  assist  the  formation  of  the  story  -  he  does  not  exist  in  this  capacity  within  the  standard    &&    primary  timeline  or  universe.  his  entire  existence  within  the  context  of  space  is  the  near-direct  result  of  paradoxes  ripping  tears  into  the  multiverse.

         in  this  way,  cecil  was  eventually  approached  by  someone  to  pen  the  story  -  the  identity  of  the  person  is  unknown,  even  by  cecil  himself.  he  agreed  to  this  plan;  the  money  was  too  good  an  offer  to  turn  down,  considering  all  of  cecil’s  issues.  so  he  agreed  to  do  this    &&    was  given  a  book    &&    pen  to  use  as  his  specific  equipment.  he  was  not  allowed  to  use  anything  else.  this  wasn’t  an  issue  -  very  easy,  even.  so  he  began  to  pen  the  story  of  a  captain  in  the  second  person.  someone  unindentifiable  but  relatable.    someone  who’s  storyline  he  would  follow  through  certain  choices,  following  a  script.  explicity  writing  someone  else’s  words.              but  then  they  were  there.  you  were  there,  in  his  office,  in  front  of  his  desk,  snatching  away  that  very  given  book,  deciding  something  so  very  vague  that  anything  could  happen.  while  he  was  not  well-versed  in  his  equipment  enough  to  fix  it,  he  knew  what  would  happen,  whether  something  befell  himself  or  it  somehow  drew  the  engineer  to  the  captain,  something  terrible  would  occur,  you  can’t  be  that  vague,  you  don’t  UNDERSTAND  the  consequences,  just  LOOK  OUT  OF  THE  WINDOW---!

verse  one  ;    ‘  saturday  job  pays  six    &&    six  down  ’    (  SHOWTIME  )              this  verse  takes  place  anytime  during  the  show,  of  course.  whether  exactly  where  it  usually  happens  or  before  or  anytime  between  -  the  author  himself  shall  be  expecting  you,  even  if  he  doesn’t  know  it  yet.  he  knows  who  you  are,  whoever  you  may  really  be    &&    perhaps  even  who  you  will  become.  he  is  not  here  to  help,  but  perhaps  he  can  try,  if  you  don’t  send  him  to  an  untimely  death  first,  purposeful  or  otherwise.  he  is  a  writer  at  heart,  disconnected  even  from  those  around  him.                  the  secrets  lie  in  the  book  ...

verse  two  ;    ‘  starlings  swarming  a  cloud  over  grainger  street  ’    (  AMBIGUOUS  )                this  verse  is  not  TOO  different  from  the  prior  except  that  it  exclusively  takes  place  in  either  prologue  or  epilogue  sort  of  format.  space  is  a  bridge  between  any    &&    all  stories  in  the  past    &&    the  future  so  the  details  of  this  verse  still  can  vary,  but  it  comes  with  a  knowledge  of  space  regardless.  the  wormhole,  whether  in  the  future  or  the  past,  has  forever  touched  cecil’s  life  as  much  as  anyone  else’s.  he  will  remember,  even  if  it  hasn’t  happened  yet.  he  will  recognize,  even  if  you  haven’t  met.  but  be  warned  -  you  are  no  longer  in  your  story.                 you  will  be  in  his.
