I suck at editing. I just write to write. I hope it makes since and I totally blame @dprwolfgang for this. All her fault. All the photos were found during a search of pinteres, credit to their owners.
Throwing her hands up in victory she whispered out a ‘yes’ before gently swiping some glue stick on her last piece of construction paper of her project. “And finally my crowning glory is done for my room,” she said pressing the green leaf to the stem of her giant red apple. All the names of her students written in colorful worms were ready to be placed on her door. What startled her to pop her head up was the clapping she was hearing from the entranceway to her classroom.
“I’m impressed,” a short, curvy woman said from the door. The young woman strolled into the classroom, letting her bouncy curls move about. “I didn’t think you had it in you? You don’t even look like you had a night of fun last night. I thought you would have your head resting on the desk, cussing my name out.”
Paige clinched her jaw as she saw her friend walk into the room. “Oh no, you will be doing my afterschool duties for an entire month, after last night. Do you know what time I was up to get ready for today? You are so lucky that today is just getting our rooms ready for tomorrow.”
“Oh come on it was so worth it. I mean that guy last night,” She practically screamed as she walked into the room. “I want all the details, so what happened.”
“Dorothy,” Paige said in a hushed tone, “I don’t want my business broadcast all over the school.”
“So you do have business,” she said rushing into the room. She grabbed one of those annoying small children chairs to sit down in. “Talk and don’t leave out any of the details.”
“I would rather not,” she said standing up trying to find something else to fix in her room.
“You’re room is done. So talk. I want all the juicy details; don’t leave a damn thing out. So how did you exactly meant him? The last time I saw you, you were speaking to a tall, nerdy looking type. He looked boring as fuck.”
“How do you teach little kids with a mouth like that,” Paige whipped her head around to look at her. “Seriously?”
Dorothy looked at her watch and said that she had less than 24 hours to keep swearing like a sailor at work and that she had to get it all in. “So how did you meet…what’s his name...,” she said looking at her phone. “Christian?”
“That’s his name…I guess Christ was close enough,” she than covered up her month quickly but Dorothy’s eyes bugged out of her head. “You didn’t.”
“For fuck sake, close my door and I’ll tell you everything, at least everything that I can remember. I drank a lot last night.”
“Girl, you didn’t black out did you?” Dorothy ran over to the door to shut it and found a desk chair to sit in. “I need to be comfortable for this, so what happened.”
“First of all, I didn’t get that drunk. It just comes and goes. I remember the important stuff; just some details are kind of fuzzy. So as you left me for the night,” she gave Dorothy a side eye to let her know she didn’t appreciate it. “I was left with nerdy, tall jerk face. I tried everything in the book to get him to go away but he wasn’t going to take the hint. At one point he just smiles and gets up and leaves. He doesn’t say goodbye or anything. I thought maybe he saw someone else, but I was wrong. He came back with two drinks in his hand. He got me this fruity martini thing. That’s the best way to describe it, it just looked like a starter drink, and you know when you don’t know what to order so you get the umbrella drink.”
“OH no. You didn’t accept it, right?”
“Nah, I just had it in my hand playing with it. I mean there was cherries and lime wedges to entertainment me. But you know me; I don’t accept drinks from strangers. Eventually, I kept telling him I was waiting for a friend, not laughing at his jokes, looking around. You know trying not to be present in the conversation. I was hoping to catch your eye to help me out, but you failed me.”
“I did,” Dorothy admitted. “You deserve everything you were blessed with last night because my date turned out to be a dud. So when did this other guy show up, the guy on my phone?”
“Honestly, he came out out of no where, but I was eternally grateful. The next thing I knew he was by my side and said he was glad I could make it. I wasn’t going to say no because hello, you saw him. We hugged and he whispered in my ear don’t drink the drink.”
“What?”
“Right? He told me not to drink the drink. I got scared and I was telling my mind to just relax and you’ll get out of this. I hadn’t touched the drink so I just needed to walk away and he was going to help me.”
“I would have thrown it at jackass when I heard that,” Dorothy said with gritted teeth, but Paige put her hand up to signal her to calm down. “Don’t worry he gets kicked out. But to save my butt we play pretend about knowing each other and that his party was waiting for me. That’s when I pulled him towards you and your date for the night.”
Dorothy then has a moment of clarity, “Is that when he excused himself and disappeared?"
Paige nodded “He went to tell security that guy was roofing girls and he saw him try to do it to me. That’s when we saw the scuffle and they threw him out. He was being my savior.”
“So what happened next,” Dorothy said slapping Paige on the shoulder, “You know after he made me take his picture and get his name, just in case you went missing the next day. By the way, that was kind of charming. What guy asks a friend, can I take your friend out and here is enough information just in case you want to hunt me down. Oh and I’m neeevvvverrr deleting this picture by the way because yes.”
Dorothy pulled out her phone and scrolled through to find the picture of him she took. “Because yes but what happened next?”
“We went to another club that was more my vibe. I’m not a big sit around and drink person, so we found this dance club with a bunch of his friends. He bought some bottles for the table and we just hung out. It was just nice you know. I mean I was kind of rescued and than was treated like a lady all night. His friends were nice and they had all really nice things to say about him. I just enjoyed myself.”
“I mean you had a point; it was nice to be in a nice dress and let loose for a bit. I guess I let loose a little too much and I got drunk. Really drunk, happy and…sadly horny.”
“You didn’t,” Dorothy gasped with her hand over her mouth. “You did, didn’t you?”
“You know what it’s been in a while, I’m not close to any type of relationship and he fit all the criteria at that moment.”
“Which were?”
“Nice, hot, employed, hot, smart, hot, funny, hot and a gentleman, plus did I mention he was hot and the accent.”
“Hello,” she said giving Paige a high five.
“So you went back to your place?”
“Noooo. We went to his place, which by the way the view was breathtaking; the view was amazing with all the city lights. Just gorgeous, I do remember that.” Paige squinted up her face trying to remember some thing, but it was hard. “A little messy but nice place.”
“I can’t believe you did that?”
“What? Remember you had his picture. If something did happen to me, he could get caught. We saw his ID and you took his picture and all night everyone was just saying he was a really nice guy. That he worked hard and an amazing artist.”
“Artist?”
“Yeah, something about film. I don’t know it was complicated and after four drinks I was all about dancing and making out at that point.”
“Paige!”
“Dorothy,” Paige exclaimed back. “So yeah we started to making out at the club. It wasn’t like at the table or anything, we just found this dark corner in VIP and went at it. It was kind of funny and awkward at first. He wasn’t smooth about it but neither was I, I think that’s why I felt comfortable around him.”
“So on the outside totally a guy that looks like he would dominate you but really inside he was a puppy tripping over his own giant paws.”
“Perfect analogy. It was just, I don’t know is it possible to be sexy, fun, steamy and the best sex ever all rolled into one.”
“So when did it start to get hot and heavy?”
“Just before the cab ride home, in the cab I wasn’t feeling it. I mean its cab. I don’t get how people want to make out in a cab. It’s just not happening.”
“So how come you didn’t change your mind?”
“I don’t know. I just remember looking out the window of the car and just feeling his fingers intertwined with mine and I got the goose bumps. I was excited for him. I wasn’t going to stop. We get to his place and I remember saying giving him a moment. He wasn’t planning to have guests. I understood, so after a few minutes I was presented to his place. I just remember he had these windows over looking party of the city. It was beautiful and….” Paige couldn’t even finish her statement because she had a flash of what began in his living room.
Dorothy grabbed her hand and arm and shook it. “Up against that view, are you telling me?”
“This is real life, not a movie. I’m not having sex up against a window for the world to see. I will however, let some foreplay begin against a window in which it did. That was fun until I stepped on a squeaky toy and his dog began to bark.”
“He has a dog? Was that awkward?”
“Not really, he just figured we should move it to the bedroom to not disturb her. So he guided me through his house and into his room. Once I got there it was like we were in the club again and couldn’t keep our hands off each other. I kind of wish there was more lights on in the room because it wasn’t until the next that I got a better idea of his tattoos.”
“Tattoos?”
“Mmmmhmmm…they’re nice. I didn’t see them until the next day, though. Little Ms. Preschool went home with the guy with tattoos. How you like me now? I know what people say about me but I don’t care.”
“You think you can get a picture of those tattoos. I should have them just in case the police ask me if there were any markings on him. It would be for your safety.”
Paige had to roll her eyes at her. “But like all great sex it has to come to an end and there was the next day.”
“Oh no,” Dorothy laughed.
“Well no one looks great the next day after you’ve been to the club. I figured I would wake up before him and freshen up and just leave. That was the game plan but he was already out of the bed when I woke up. I’m thinking he just left me here. I was annoyed, but I wake up to find a towel at the foot of the bed and my clothes folded.”
I got up and went to the bathroom to clean up, and almost screamed. I was horrified.”
“Eye makeup?”
“Girl, mascara gone one way and the eyeliner another, lip stain trying to reach my ear, it was bad. I’m thinking you saw my face like this no wonder you ran for the hills. Probably tried to eat your arm off to escape while I was sleeping. Plus it didn’t help that I was this ugly thing in the middle of his beautiful bathroom. Everything was so neat and put together.
“Sounds like he’s you.”
“Oh, I’m not that bad.”
“When was your room finished for the first day of school minus the names of your kids.”
“Do you want me to tell you the story or not?”
Dorothy motioned for her to continue.
“I’m thinking he has to have a maid service or something. I noticed everything was just in its place in the bathroom. Anyway, that’s not important, I cleaned up and finished getting dressed. I did my best to look like I was not out partying the night before and went looking for him. That wasn’t that hard because he’s sitting at a desk that had tons of monitors and computer stuff on it.”
Paige smiled a little as she remembered the moment.
“Good Morning. I hope you were comfortable.”
Paige nodded “Yeah, I didn’t even here you get up. I feel kind of bad that you had a snoring woman keeping you up all night.”
“No, no…no..it’s not you. I have a deadline so I had to be up and at it. I didn’t want to wake you. Plus, Lori needs to be walked and feed. It’s a process. I’m not much of a sleeper. I’m sure my bed appreciated the fact that it was being used last night.”
“You could put it that way,” Paige laughed.
“Oh that didn’t, I mean…that didn’t mean to come out like that. You were lovely. Amazing. Perfect actually,” he said messing with his hair. She could tell it was a nervous tick he was experiencing. “Are you hungry? Coffee? Breakfast? Painkillers? We drank a lot.”
“You look busy, in the true since of the word, actually, so I’m going to go. I had a wonderful time last night. I had fun and thank you for everything.”
“Let me get you a cab or something?”
“I’m good. Really, you’ve been perfect. I should go because I need to head into work, but once again. Thanks for everything.”
Christian got up from his desk with Lori at his feet to walk her to the door. “I don’t want you to think I’m rushing you out.”
“I don’t think so. Are we on the same page about this? Like I just needed this and you just needed this?”
“Are we having a discussion if this is or isn’t a one night stand,” he smiled, “God we are so awkward, but it’s kind adorable.”
Paige laughed. “Yes. It is. It’s almost like we should exchange numbers, but aren’t going to because we want to know if fate will have us run into each again like those movies.
“God I hate those movies, so I’m going to ask for your number but never use?”
“Yes, and I’m going to not even bother getting your number because I’m idiot. How about that?”
“Perfect,” he said getting his phone and asking for her digits. “I’m going to put you in my contacts as just a P, hoping I remember that stands for Paige.”
“What’s your name again,” Paige said scratching the back of her head.
“Even better,” he said pointing at her. “I would say text me to say you got home but you don’t have my number.”
“It was nice meeting you.” Paige smiled and was about to walk away but she turned around to grab his shirt to pull him into a kiss. They both didn’t care as they stood at his door having a mini make out session before they broke apart. “It was definitely, lovely,” Paige said before walking away.
“It was lovely,” Dorothy said smacking her again. “You get a phone number from the guy that says lovely. We don’t use the word lovely in our day in age anymore. Did you want it to be a one night stand?”
“I don’t know,” Paige, whispered, “Maybe I’m so used to being alone that I kind of like it. I don’t know. Either way he has my number and he knows how to use the phone. I don’t know just something seemed off.”
“What do you mean?”
“I couldn’t explain if I tried and I don’t remember to much because I was drunk. I remember the important things, the amazing things. But there are some details, I just don’t remember. I can’t explain it. Maybe it was the vodka and soju shots. I don’t know. But your mission was accomplished. You wanted me to wil’ out before school started. You owe me recess session for an entire month.”
“I deserve this. I was a horrible wing woman.”
“Terrible, now let me go over tomorrows plans for the parents before I have to leave.” Paige smiled a little remembering last night’s events and thought maybe she should have gotten his numbers. She had to admit that she wasn’t good with living in the moment. After her time at the school was done, she went home to make sure everything was set for the next day. It was a good idea to start off on the right foot on the first day of school. Outfit was clean. Lunch was packed. Lesson plans and parent orientation was put together. She was ready for the first day of school to go off without a hitch.
The next day she caught the early bus to make it to work on time and to see all the other teachers scrambling the first day. Dorothy was right by her side letting her know that she was gloating. “Not gloating, prepared. Bring on the parents. It’s too early for the school year to go down the crapper.”
“You mean shit,” Dorothy said, “Kids and parents aren’t here yet. Got to get them in while we can. Fuck, Shit, Dammit, Assholes.”
Paige had to laugh at assholes, “Why are you a teacher again?”
“Cause I actually like kids and think they’re so adorable. Right?” Soon the hallways were filled with parents and kids trying to figure out which classrooms they belong too. Dorothy and Paige had rooms across the hall so they would give each other the eye for certain parents and kids that would walk into their room. As they were catching the mom’s gossiping already, they heard the whispers of a hot dad.
They both met in the middle of the hallway. “Who do you think is getting the hot dad this year,” Paige asked.
“I call Ryan in First grade. Change it up a bit. I say it’s a gay couple with the kid and Ryan gets him. So you know it’s safer for us this year. He has to do all the drooling and can’t have him.
“That’s mean and low of you, but kind of hope the same thing.”
“Exactly.” They both broke a part when their principal walked by to make sure they were focus on the parents and kids. School was about to start and there were a few parents trying to get their kids to move towards the right room. Paige was about to shut the door when she heard a few more steps coming her way. “No…rush,” she whispered because she noticed someone’s face. He was holding a backpack in one hand a juice box in the other. He was dressed in some nice slacks and a grey button down shirt with a sweater on top. She knew the color of her face was turning pal as he came closer to her, but he didn’t look up. Still trying to find the room number on his piece of paper. “Come on Haley, we don’t want to be late,” he said.
Paige looked at her door and saw the name Haley…Hayley Yu on it and looked up to see Christian come towards her door, with a face of recognition. “Hi, I’m Ms. King, and this is…?”
“Uh…” Christian said trying to wrap his brain around what was happening. “Hi, I’m Mr. Yu and this is Haley, my daughter.”
“Hi, Hayley. Mr. Yu,” she said shaking Haley’s hand first and than Christian’s. Her memory flashed to the other night at the club.
“Hi, My name is Christian…It’s Christian Yu and it’s nice to met you.”
“Paige. Paige King.”
Paige watched as they found a place to sit on the floor with the rest of the children and parents to start their initial meeting. She went over to her desk to pretend find her welcome sheets but she knew where they were. She was trying to give herself a moment to process that she has already slept with a parent of a child in her classroom. The only words that came to her mind where ‘Fuck. Shit. Dammit. Asshole.’
