Download the Free DPP Zine: November Edition
The latest edition of the Duck Prints Press zine is now available! It includes information about the Press, where to find us on social media, how to support us, and excerpts from the following titles coming soon…
Hockey Bois by A. L. Heard
Novel (approx. 120,000 words). Contemporary M/M Romance.
Nick Porter has always loved hockey. Ever since he can remember, it’s been his favorite thing in the world. It’s too bad he never learned to play, he’d tell himself, but it was too late to do it now. Adults don’t just magically learn to skate and join a hockey team. That’d be ridiculous. Except maybe they do? On a whim, he decides to sign-up for an adult beginner’s class. He learns to skate, joins a team, and meets a really hot teammate… and it’s pretty much a disaster from there on out.
Pre-orders for this newly revised edition open on December 1st, 2023!
-
What Monsters Need by Lyn Weaver
Short Story (approx. 9,000 words). Explicit Gothic M/M Fantasy.
The vampire Lazarus’s sister Leona is always dragging him into her mischief, not that Lazarus minds. This time, he might even thank her: she’s gotten the attention of a monster hunter from the Albrecht family. Lazarus has always wanted to meet one of those legendary humans…
What Monsters Need is coming to the Duck Prints Press Patreon on November 30th, and will be available to all backers at the $7/month, $10/month, and $25/month level. Become a backer now and make sure you don’t miss it!
-
Waiting for the Tide to Turn by Genevieve Maxwell
Short story (approx. 3,000 words). Contemporary F/F Romance.
Liv’s had a crush on her best friend Caro for ages, but she knows that Caro doesn’t feel the same way. But the “friends getaway” that Caro has planned to the beach is going to test Liv to the limit…
This short story will be released on our webpage on November 16th, or is available to all Patreon backers RIGHT NOW!

Aim For The Heart: Queer Fanworks Inspired by Alexandre Dumas’s The Three Musketeers
Anthology with a range of settings and ship types. The excerpt in the Zine is from Veronica Sloane’s story Waiting and Hoping, and is contempory m/m (Porthos x Aramis) romance.
You’ve heard “All For One!”; now get ready for “One For All!” Duck Prints Press is thrilled to bring a whole new meaning to the Musketeers’ famous slogan in one inclusive book with a little bit of something for everyone. For this collection, we recruited 20 authors and 16 artists who love Athos, Porthos, Aramis, d’Artagnan, Milady, Madame Bonacieux, and the whole gang from Dumas’s wonderful historical melodrama. These creators’ mission was simple: take this long-adored story and make it queer!
We Kickstarted Aim For The Heart last summer, and we will be completing fulfillment by the end of November. Missed your chance to back the campaign and get a copy? Don’t worry! The e-book, print book, and extra merchandise will be coming to our website in January, 2024!
Some come download our zine, and read part of each of these works right now!
Want even more sneak peeks? You can download our past zines, too!

Twitter/CuriousCat asks Part 2
We want to make sure that the questions we answer are available through both our tumblr and twitter channels, so here are the continued questions we've answered on Twitter through CuriousCat!
Anonymous asked: do the finance mods have any experience handling finances?
Mod Sesu answered: Hello Anon, happy almost Application time! To answer your question, one finance mod (Mod Soul) has experience in tax law, as well as helped set up an LLC before. Our other finance mod (me!) does not have much experience other than handling their own personal finances living on their own, but they've both put heavy research in handling zine finances. Luckily, as this is a digital-only zine, the finance mods do not have to handle the heavy start of finance handling that physical zines would have to shoulder.
They have both prepared extensively for the finances of this zine in order to make sure that nothing goes awry on the Paypal end, as other zines have experienced before.
I hope that this can ease your concerns, and feel free to ask us more questions! Thank you, and have a great evening! 🎉 - Mod Sesu
Anonymous asked: If we don't currently have any of our finished art on our social media account would that be an issue?
Mod Soul answered: As long as you provide a solid portfolio hosted on another site (such as Google Drive) that includes your finished art, that's okay.
Thanks for the question! 🌻 - Mod Soul
Anonymous asked: Are you guys looking for a certain type of style? If so which?
Mod Soul answered: We're looking for your style! If you think your drawing or writing style fits the theme of Found Family, we'd be excited to see it in the application!
Thank you for your question, Anon! ❤️ - Mod Soul
BWolfSpirit asked: For artist applications. Do we need a specific portfolio for our example piece? Or can we send our best 3 pieces as a google doc, and a link to an art social media blog.
Mod Beetle answered: Hi and Happy Weekend! We will be asking you to provide both your social media where you post the majority of your visual art, and your portfolio containing your 3-5 pieces. These two requirements are separate from each other.
The portfolio requirements are stated in our website: https://scarletscarveszine.wixsite.com/newhome/applications Thanks for asking! 🌻 - Mod Beetle
Anonymous asked: Hey, I wanted to send a application when it opens but, I draw on my phone, how would it work? Thanks!
Mod Beetle answered: Hello Anonymous and Happy Friday! 🌻 It would help to know what app you use, but generally, if it's possible for you to resize the canvas AND change the resolution (DPI or DPP), then you'll be okay. If you get accepted, you can work with Mod Beetle to figure out how to send your art files.
As for the application, it will be done through Google Forms, and you will be able to answer it through your phone. When we ask for your portfolio, you will provide link or links to your artwork.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to DM us on our twitter @ScrltScrvsZines! Thank you for the question! - Mod Beetle
Anonymous asked: For writer applications: if we have an existing sample story that is over 4,000 words long, can we submit an excerpt that fits within the word limit and attach a summary providing necessary context? Or should the whole story be edited down to 4,000 words?
Mods Sesu and Soul answered: Your story should stand on its own without notes because the reader should be able to use context clues to understand, whether that means editing your story down or just providing an excerpt.
Thanks for the question! - Mods Sesu & Soul

Today’s creator spotlight for Aim For The Heart: Queer Fanworks Inspired by Alexandre Dumas’s “The Three Musketeers” (the awesome fanwork-ful anthology that Duck Prints Press is currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter!) has made three contributions to this anthology, creating two full-page art pieces for the book’s interior AND making the bookmark!
Meet Jagoda Zirebiec…

This bookmark, 2 in x 9 in (5 cm x 23 cm), will be printed on thick paper in high gloss, will have contributor signatures on the back, and will have a shimmery gold tassel to accent the rich yellow and orange tones of the artwork!
We’re also giving you a teaser for one of Jagoda Zirebiec’s interior contributions – to see the other, you’ll have to buy the book!
Knight Commander by Jagoda Zirebiec
About the Artist: Hiya! I’m Jagoda or MizuShiba. I am a game dev artist currently working on a few unannounced titles. In my spare time I love to join collaborative projects like this, or charity Zines. This is my first project with DPP and hopefully not last!
I’m located in Poland and currently live here with my family. Aside from art, I’m interested in collecting dice and playing ttrpgs with friends.

Twitter/CuriousCat asks Part 3
We want to make sure that the questions we answer are available through both our tumblr and twitter channels, so here are even more continued questions we've answered on Twitter through CuriousCat!
Anonymous asked: Hey, I'm the phone anonymous, the app I use is ibis paint x, I've been trying to find a way to change the resolution (dpi/dpp) but I'm currently out of luck , but thanks for the help!
Mod Beetle said: Hi again phone anon! I'm not familiar with this app, but upon googling, it looks like there is a way to change the resolution (or have other similar workarounds). Here are the first two links I found: https://ibispaint.com/lecture/index.jsp?no=77&lang=en & https://ibispaint.com/lecture/index.jsp?no=41&lang=en
I'm not sure if this is applicable to your phone's OS or the version of your app, but if you do get accepted, we can work together to figure out how to export high-definition drawings for your drawing app :3
Good luck with the application 🌻 And thanks for asking! - Mod Beetle
Anonymous asked: Hello, I just saw your requirements for the writing part of the zine, and I would fill those but while I am capable of writing in english, my examples set in the found family trope are written in another language. I guess you can't take my word that i would be able to write for it, right?
Mod Sesu said: Hello Anon, happy Sunday! If it's okay, do you mind DM'ing us on Twitter individually about this? We want to possibly be able to accommodate this, but we just need more information to make an informed decision. Thank you! 🌻 - Mod Sesu
Anonymous asked: Can we do collaborations between artists??
Mod Sesu said: Hello!! Hope you're doing well anon! Unfortunately, we are not allowing illustrator pairs. Maybe in a future zine we might consider this approach, but for this one we won't because it presents unique mod challenges and we want to get a hold on the new stuff we are doing in this zine first. Thanks for asking though! - Mod Sesu
Anonymous asked: Hey, I would like to ask if it's okay for me to apply as a minor if I use my parent's PayPal account with their consent? My mother doesn't need a PayPal while I do, so while it's technically under her name, the account belongs to me. It's a legal loop, but legal nonetheless
Mod Soul said: Sorry, but we are uncomfortable with this workaround and would only like to work with those 18 years old (or turning 18 years old by July). - Mod Soul
Anonymous said: Hello! I wanted to submit an application for almost every part of the zine; Writer, Illustrator, and a Merch Artist. I wanted to only be picked for one, in order to not overwork myself. Is that possible, or would something else happen? (Sorry if the question doesn't make much sense)
Mod Sesu said: Hello Anon! 🌻 There's a section in the application where you can tell us what role you'd prefer. You can indicate there that you only want to be considered for one role. Thanks -Mod Sesu
Anonymous asked: The anon can correct me if I’m wrong but, I think the last anon is asking; If we sign up for multiple positions and get chosen to be part of the zine, would we have to be all the roles, or can we chose which one we want to be instead? Sorry if this sounds rude!
Mods Soul and Sesu said: Hello, no worries! We would select from the roles you chose. If you tell us you want to do one piece for one role and one piece for another role, we may consider that option for you. However, you should make that clear in the section where you clarify which role you prefer. In the end, we may only select you for one piece so please keep that in mind! Hope that can clarify everything! - Mods Soul and Sesu
