#dovewing looks a bit silly in this

I know I always draw Ivypool taller than Dovewing, just because that sort of size difference communicates their difference in personality (in a very abstract way, I can't explain it outside "shorter dove looks more approachable, taller ivy looks more threatening"), but I've always imagined Ivypool to be as tall as or even shorter than her sister

since i (finally) finished reading wind i thought id give some of my thoughts on it. might be whiny <3

spoilers probably beneath the thing - beware

overall i think it’s ok! (for warriors). it’s definitely getting more interesting from a plot perspective but im personally less invested than i was the first few books and i think it mostly has to do with nightheart and sunbeam. i like them okay and i do think they’re cute together - and it’s really nice to see a healthy romance front and center in warriors (looking at you bramblestar).

one of my biggest things - which isn’t necessarily a criticism of the books but more a personal thing - is that nightheart has become a bit boring since his character arc. i think it was relatively well done and i liked seeing him grow up a bit and grow closer with his clan and family, but he’s just so … meh now. i really liked what a spunky little shit he was at first, it was very fun to read. i wish we got more protags that aren’t viewed by the authors as perfect golden boys that can do no wrong - but now he might as well be one.

they’re getting better at handling squirrelstar - i remember being pretty pissed about how they just completed changed her character at first after she became leader (which happens too much imo) but i think we’re starting to see a little bit of her old self shine through. i especially loved her whole thing with sunbeam when she wanted to see her family. i didn’t want to see bland perfect thunderclan leader #4 i wanted to see squirrelflight as a leader. so hopefully they’re sticking with that.

on that note - this is old news i think but im glad they picked ivypool as deputy. i’m definitely biased (i adore her) but i think she’s a really interesting character and id love to see her get more spotlight again. (it also fuels my delusions that if we get ivystar we’ll maybe get twigbranch as deputy - ill never forgive the authors for abandoning her and violetshine). anyway i think there’s also a lot of interesting stuff that can be done with ivypool as deputy/ leader especially with dovewing in shadowclan. i know they won’t make her deputy too but imagine ?!!!??

it’s been said many many times but holy shit there’s too many damn cats now - especially in thunderclan. like jesus christ i can’t keep track of them all - i miss when there were like 10ish background characters with their own personalities and dialogue instead of the occasional one liner from whoever the fuck this guy is and nothing from cats that used to be protags/plot relevant (looking at you twigbranch. alderheart.)

i still adore frostpaw and i love how confident in herself she’s become. honestly i want more of her. the nightheart and sunbeam (especially) chapters dragged a bit for me. she probably had the same amount of screen time (page time?) as she did in previous books but it felt like less this time to me.

there’s just. not a lot going on. which is saying something for me cause i could read an encyclopedia’s worth of just fun character dialogue and no action - but we’re not getting much of either. it just feels a lot less charming than earlier books/series. it might just be me growing up but i just read avos for the first time this year and i ate that shit up. it feels a lot of the time like they’re just padding this shit out to meet the page count. like if you only need four books to tell this arc’s story you know you can do that right ???

like fr what happened in this book actually plot wise - splashtail is leader now. frostpaw is in shadowclan. berryheart and fam are rogues and hurt and sunbeam is worried about them. frostpaw is slowly convincing people she’s not a liar. she and puddleshine see splashtail being shady. frostpaw saves windclan(???) and then they spy on river clan some more and watch him kill harelight. maybe i’m being silly but it just - that’s not like. a story. but at least something happened i guess, like it’s moving along. i miss the park.

some little things that they would never do that would make things a little better (to me):

- frostpaw and whistlepaw. enough said. would fix all my qualms forever.

- give splashtail a personality?? he just seems like a very generic villain too similar to the others we’ve gotten. just a tigerstar/hawkfrost rehash. give him something new !! at least make him more charming and manipulative, dont just lead with the whole fear/intimidation thing again. he just comes off as brash and a bit stupid which is fine but not that exciting

- more mothwing??? like they’re hinting that mothwing is connecting the dots between this situation and hawkfrost but i want more !! give her the chance to right things this time! i wanna see her beat that little shit up!!! a lot of people think she’s going to be riverclan’s new leader and i wouldn’t be mad about that - i do love her - but i also think icewing would be a fun fresh choice

- shadowsight and frostpaw friendship. i mean come on!!!!

anyway i’m sure i could go on forever but that’ll do. sorry im sure that was extremely negative and ranty but no one’s gonna read this anyway!!!

ok so i am already way behind on my catch up goals, are we surprised, no we are not. But here i finally am with Ravenpaw's Farewell thoughts anyway

This was actually the first warriors novella I've read and my initial thoughts were basically, "aw geez...are they all going to be written this poorly?" but i have since finished Dovewing's Silence so i am now privy to the fact that, no, they are not all written this poorly.

Overall it just has such structure and character problems. Like i am not going to lie, I 100% teared up at the tour of the old forest, and of course at Ravenpaw's death. His quote about having always been a warrior deserves a special shout out, but for the most part dialogue was really clunky, I swear characters frequently teleported around a scene, or worse, the environment was so poorly described I couldn't tell where anyone was supposed to be wayyy too much of the time. Bella and Riley barely felt real, which I think the author even knew because they tried to keep comparing them to Firestar and Graystripe just to make us experience an emotion. And the conflict and its resolution ("how to make kittypets stop attacking us?" "what if...border.... larger ?") was just silly and made SkyClan and maybe also StarClan look dumb af.

BUT I was very much surprised how central the relationship between Barley and Ravenpaw was. Obviously I was aware that these boys totally love each other and it was one of those things where the authors say they're gay but the publisher won't allow it to be in text, but I still didn't expect their relationship to be so overtly loving. Of course I don't think it's "good enough" -- we should be able to have explicitly same sex mates in Warrior Cats. But it was incredibly sweet to have them talk about how much they love each other, and even little things like the kittens asking them if they had kits of their own.

I did also really appreciate the messaging about how all people - even young people or those born under different circumstances - have a right to choose their own path in life. I wish I had felt a little bit more for all the secondary characters, but overall that's a poignant message, especially aimed at younger readers.

All and all, it was a decent send off to a beloved character and setting, with little nods of foreshadowing to the coming plots with SkyClan and even Graystripe's Vow, but it didn't really put in the extra effort of doing anything new or truly extraordinary, mostly instead trailing on the coattails of nostalgia and better books from the series.

Zepp's Wc Design Headcanons

-- I've always pictured Poppyfrost as a diluted tortie point. Anytime the -frost suffix is on a cat I alwasy see them as white or pointed tbh.

-- Bluestar ABSOLUTELY resembles a Nebelung in my eyes I can not change this anymore. We need more long haired bluestar.

-- Crowfeather has the Windclan look, that being similar to an Oriental Shorthair with big ears and a thin frame. He's blue but it's on the darker end.

-- Nightcloud looks much more like what you'd see from Shadowclan than windclan with a shorter, stockier build. Fluffy classic smoke tabby. I can't see her as anything but tabby tbh and it could be because my brain needed some kind of destinction between her a Breezepelt.

-- Breezepelt looks JUST like his dad with the same ears, eyes, and frame but gets his neck fur and feather tail from his mama. He's a classic smoke as well but it's not as obvious as Nightcloud, he looks more solid.

-- Leafpool looks like a cinnamon tortie I don't make the rules. (This is actually exactly how I see Leafpool, Lionblaze got his lion look from somewhere and it wasnt rat ass Crowfeather)

-- Sasha makes more sense as a flame point than a seal point seeing as Mothwing was straight up red/cream. I also think it would explain why shes never described with typical pointed features like dark legs and face because they just don't always show up well.

-- I've always liked seal point Hawkfrost designs with more white on them even though I have NEVER drawn him that way for some reason. I think it separates him a bit more from every other tabby in wc. Pretty Boy Hawkfrost has also been burned into my brain the past several years.

-- Longtail has short legs, not like munchkin short, but short enough that when compared to his tail it's noticeable. It's a trait from grandpa Adderfang that skipped Patchpelt and rammed into Longtail.

-- Sandstorm will always be a torbie in my mind no you can't change it. I have two Sandstorm variations, one being a cinnamon torbie and one being a regular Torbie so it looks like her fur is colored like yellow and black sand.

-- Ashfur is a big guy, big enough to square up to Bramble if he wasn't such a coward. He gets this from his mama Brindleface who I've always seen as a pretty big cat. Fernsong has it too actually.

-- Birchfall is a silver broken mackerel tabby. Honestly I'm not sure why he isn't grey or silver in canon anyway since he was named Birch as a kit but whatever.

-- Shadowsight looks a lot more like Tigerstar II than Dovewing. Big, solid, fluffy boy.

-- Flipclaw is a red tabby to me. I used to see him as a brown tabby but I can't now.

-- Millie is a silver torbie. I like this a lot because it helps separate her from "Silverstream 2" a bit more. Also just makes her a unique cat since I can't see any others as silver torbies. Probably carries point like Greystripe too.

-- Blossomfall has Vitilago! That's it, thats the headcanon.

-- Briarlight is a dark seal point. The kind that almost look Tonkinese/Burmese.

-- I have ALWAYS seen Tree and Rootspring as big cats. I know in canon Tree is supposed to be smaller but screw that big fluffy dad. I'vre tried drawing Tree like he is in the books and it never sticks. Rootspring is a bigger cat because of the Sisters' blood on his dads side and Hawkwing's blod on his mothers side. Not as big as Tree and hes not as solid but still bigger than the Skyclan apprentices at least. Which kind of adds on to how silly it is to the others that he's just kind of bad at everything at first.

-- SPEAKING of cats I imagine bigger than they are in canon Alderheart is absolutely the same size as his dad. I can't see him as a small cat, just gentle giant.

-- Same with Feathertail too she's a big cat like Graystripe and looks even bigger on top of it with her thicker fur.

-- Rosetail was a chimera. I've seen some chimera cats that have their tail a different coat and not the rest of their body before. It's rare but it does happen.

-- Crookedstar is a black tabby and Oakheart is a greyish tabby. They have two grey parents and honestly with their names it would make more sense with Crooked being named Storm as a kit and oak trees tending to have a more washed out color of greyish brown. (Crooked on the left, Oak on the right)

I ran out of images I could add so there might be a part 2 to this eventually but for now this is just about it!

What an ending! Terrifying and hopeful at the same time, I am very excited to see the hijinks Bramblestar and Rowanstar will get into and how they will go searching for Skyclan, it was PAINFUL to have that prologue talking about them with 0 hope of them showing up again Nothing Nada Zilch, feels like that and the ending were just 2 remind us that that was still the major plot point hahaha, I appreciate it I guess. I'm glad Violetpaw and Twigpaw are on uh good terms despite it all, not very ideal and they're both upset but they still consider each other siblings and know they care about each other :'0 Alderheart getting his name is epic too!!! I was hoping he would soon. I loved everything about his interactions with Jayfeather here, loved all the characterizations really it was just top notch, Onestar being a bastard, Needletail, OH AND SHADOWCLAN JOINING THE ROGUES, top notch!!!! The ancap apprentices were a riot.

This was a good book!!! Flowed very nicely and smoothly, reading in shadowclan's point of view for more than around 3 chapters was great. I can barely wait for the rest!!! Will Violetpaw find belonging in this new era of Shadowclan??? Or will she leave again??? Will Alderheart somehow figure out where Skyclan is and get them together at the lake??? Will Twigpaw get all the spicy details of Dovewing's secret romance with Tigerheart??? Who knows!! But I am very excited to find out what happens next :D

1. How did you get into Warriors?

I got into Warriors when I was in middle school and I was looking for a book to read at Walmart. Where I found and brought the book Fire and Ice. I love it but I was confused about well a lot of things, so then I got Into the Wild. And that’s hook on Warriors and I give the Erin's all of my money.

2. Favorite Arc

Here comes the hate because my favorite is Power of Three.  I like the characters and the mystery of the new prophecy. There also a big theme of family that I like during this arc and I find really enjoyable. ^^

3. Favorite Book (excluding mangas, super editions, novellas)

More hate that may come my way because my favorite book is the Last Hope. The like that clan's version of heaven and hell fights with living. Also, Firestar’s and Tigerstar’s character arcs finally come full circle. In fact, a lot of character development come full circle. Which one the reasons I like it. 

4. Favorite Super Edition, Novella, or Manga

Tallstar’s Revenge, mostly because it took me by surprise how good it was. See the thing is when these Super Editions come out I was more looking forward to Bluestar's Prophecy and Crookedstar’s Promise then Tallstar’s one. But when I read I was surprised. I didn’t know that problems that Tallstar had were pretty new to the series and the character was so likable. 

5. Favorite Clan

SKYCLAN! SKYCLAN!

Yeah I know they’re silly and they live so far away from the clans that they barely interact with them. But I don’t care. They’re so different from the clans that I actually like reading their books. And now they actually back into the plot in the new arc. :D

6. Favorite Character

Oh, that’s the hard question. My favorites are Yellowfang, Squirrelflight, Hollyleaf, Sharpclaw, Hawkwing, and Alderheart. Now you might be thinking that’s a weird list of cats. Well let me explain:

Yellowfang like her because I like her backstory and her personally. It was rare back in the day(still) that a mother will go fight against her son that was rotten to the core. What she goes through and still could keep it together was so incepting. And her death was so sad especially after she said she wanted her son to be more like Fireheart. 

As for Squirrelflight she just makes me happy. She also has really nice character development in the series. She went from being an annoying apprentice to one of the best Thunderclan deputies.

Hollyleaf I like for character development. Like the other main characters in Warrior at the time were always the good guys and they don’t do no wrong. Sure Bambleclaw had that arc with his father but it kinda seems out of place. Hollyleaf it’s the character I feel that a ‘grey’ character. Like she really only cares about her clan, family, and the warrior code.

Sharpclaw I like because he’s really good deputy and warrior to his clan. Even if that’s going against his leader but like Firestar, he just wants what best for his clan.

Hawkwing I feel like have really good development from his book. He went from hot-head to a really good clam deputy. It actually both funny and inspiring.

7. Least Favorite Character

Beside villains that you're supposed to hate like Tigerstar and Darktail. But while I don’t hate him, I dislike Ashfur. Just the whole realized that he went mad because Squirrelflight didn’t want to be his mate. And no, Squirrelflight didn’t lead him on. She just wanted to be a friend but Ashfur didn’t want that. So he tries to kill her kits and got into to Starclan because fans were sad by his death. This just rubs me in all the wrong places...

8. Most Aesthetically Pleasing Cat

That depends on how you draw them because there are no official designs. But if we going off what the guide tells us then I like Tawnypelt design, and Ashfur.

9. Favorite Leader

This is easy Leafstar, Bluestar, Tallstar, and Mistystar. Just because I feel like those leaders are really good because they always trying to make the decisions but always second guesses themselves. But they willing to take charge.

10. Favorite Villain

Well you see I like a villain who is either complex or ‘fun’ And really not one of them are really fun or that complex. They try with Tigerstar’s past and Breezepelt’s relationship with his father. But Breezepelt was not hurting his father but his mother and friend. Who he actually like.  And Tigerstar made a really good one in his book, there were these voices in his head and his father left him a very young age. When I heard about I was going billet!  Then we find out later that it was Mapleshade that was doing that to Tigerstar. That was huge disappoint with me.

So I guess the only villain I like is the new one Darktail. He shows a lot of promise of tricking both Shadowclan and Skyclan into trusting him. Hopefully, this villain won’t disappointed.

11. Favorite Medicine Cat

Yellowfang. Her backstory, her character development, and her relationship were work really well. But when in POT and OOTS she a bit of bitch. But overall I like her because of her flaws and her death was one of the saddest one in the series.

12. Overrated Character

I have to say Breezepelt. Just the fandom always making excuses for him for all the bad things he was done.

13. Underrated Character

I think Dovewing. Like if you look at the Warrior fandom she doesn't have much love as Ivypool. Plus I feel she gets a lot of hate for all the wrong reasons. People like her for the woobie. The jersey sister instead of brave cat that spy on the Dark Forest.

14. Favorite Minor Character

Sorreltail and Ferncloud. I like mother characters.

15. Favorite Pairing

Firestar and Sandstorm, and Bramblestar and Squirrelflight. I feel like their relationship was developing more realistic. Then the side characters have hints and then later boom kits, without actually character development.

16. Least Favorite Pairing

Crowfeather and Leafpool. They were to act like teenagers that think they know the true meaning of love but don’t. And it’s no wonder it falls apart like it did.

17. Favorite Friendship

Got to hand to Graystripe and Firestar. They have been through everything together. In fact, I ship sometimes.

18. Favorite Moment

Oh boy, this was a hard question. There are a lot of great moments in the Warrior series. But I think the ending the Sunset was really good. It was like the first really bad ending for a Warrior arc. The Last Hope was actually really good. Everything comes together at the end and the huge epic battle between Starclan, Place of No Stars, and the clans were really good. So yeah, those two are my favorite.

19. Most Tragic Death

Stonefur, Yellowfang, and Hollyleaf. All three deaths I didn’t see coming. All deaths were beloved characters from both story and the fans. All death could be been avoided at one point. Even in case of Hollyleaf and Yellowfang would have to kill Ivypool and Bramblekit would have died. So yeah, those stuck with me.

20. Favorite Battle / Fight Scene

A big one, just a bunch of thoughts as I’m reading it, of course, lots of spoilers for the first book in the Warrior Cats series A Vision of Shadows. This will be covering just the first book tho, it’s all in the Read More, let’s gooooooo!!!!

I love reading from Jayfeather's point of view, his grumpiness hasn't grown on me ever but thats just me, I still enjoy it lots he's great and its fun

Firestar and Leopardstar's characterizations are On Point i love it

OOF i feel so bad when jayfeather is mean to others, poor kestrelflight, I love those two

I like this duo! Also I didn't think I'd ever say this but shut up squirrelflight one can have fun AND learn with their mentors

Sparkkit sounds nice she makes jingling bell noises when she walks around

I can see Alderkit taking deep breaths to relax its rotating in my mind its beautiful

God this first chapter feels so good and comfortable, like eating noodles and chicken nuggets. I am so so deeply in love with it, its gorgeous!

Sparkkit is so perfect too, and Graystripe remembering Firestar aaaaaa

I love them describing twoleg stuff its always so fun and alien, like watching an animal planet show about funny sea creatures.

Also I have determined sparkpaw is my favorite, might be my favorite cat ever next to hollyleaf??? I really identify with her and also she's autistic i have decided that

Alderpaw baby noooo hhhh their mentor at least is trying to show its okay, he seems very emotionally distant so far and alderheart feels very emotionally needy, actually both of them do, did I mention I love Sparkpaw??? I might be imprinting myself 2 much on her

I love how like, its clear both of them are absolutely anxious and worried about others opinions on them, which is clearly something they got from being Firestar's grandkids, deputy kids and leader kids. And bramblestar too, I recall him being quite the anxious lad ahhah. Sparkpaw will be showing confidence and being loud but the second anyone isn't approving of her or she does something "wrong" she gets small and quiet, and she ended up setting a high bar for herself by being good at hunting and fighting so I'm curious to see how that will go. Also there's nothing wrong with being guided through a crowded place to meet others Sparkpaw!!! I bet the two of them would be stuck without not knowing how to talk to others had Needlepaw not shown up. I love them, my gf is mocking me saying I'm a Sparkpaw kinnie.

Apprentices will like learn about a thing and tell everyone about it all the time and assume its always true in every situation and thats valid I love kids like that. Also in my head Needlepaw kinda looks like a porcupine. Oh boo she's fatphobic >:(

I love apprentices they are so fun and silly, just making fun of the leaders like its nothing. The way they are clearly learning and absorving everything their warriors say and do like sponges its just ***chefs kiss***

I love Needlepaw's excitement about Alderpaw being a medicine cat apprentice, and her sarcasm, she feels like a preppy teenager

Ahhh this is so good, I am so thirsty for family moments like this, just Alderpaw bonding with grandma, I’ll definitely want to draw this one it’s so sweet.

Oh to be young and silly.

I really am enjoying like, Alderpaw’s struggles to seeing how he fits in the clan, how he fits in himself, how he wants to be seen and what he wants to be, it’s really good. I Am Engaged(tm) With This Plot.

Also, really great that they learned from Dovewing and now like leave choices and discussions about prophecies between adults

And plus Brambles seemed to take the time to explain stuff to him, seems he wont be going alone either the 1 thing is that he will be the only one knowing what the journey is really about, why though??? I didnt read Firestar's Quest or whatever why does Skyclan need to be secret??? Seems quite silly really!

I could feel squirrelflight nearing explosion here, this was very fun, i wish they werent hiding this though!!!

The secret thing is showing to be a plot point so I am once again Very Engaged

Sparkpaw's desperation to prove herself oof, her anxiety with understanding the prophecy, oh boy, and Alderpaw feeling too overwhelmed by the questions and not managing to talk!!!! I am so glad they are both autistic

Very curious character though, how come her mentor isnt teaching her the warrior code properly? Is that an issue with all apprentices?? Is the clan overwhelmed by 12 year olds and they won?

I've been quietly reading the rest because I am just concerned and I want them to be okay as quickly as possible

I did not expect this to end up with the two of them journeying into parenthood, but I'm happy it did

Well actually I'm very unhappy theyre so lost and there's no sign of Skyclan I am very worried for everyone involved Sparkpaw must be feeling awful!

Overall! Frigging loved it this book was GOOD and a great start for the series I am very excited to read the rest, SO WORRIED ABOUT SKYCLAN THO AAAA the characterizations were great the characters were great the pacing was fun and I didn't get bored once!

I think o only wish I had read this sooner really so I could look up others thoughts without getting heavily spoiled about the last books, I can watch a few videos already though thats a start ahhaha. But yeah it was great and it felt very good to read, haven't swallowed up a book so quickly in a very long time!!! Very happy I finally got my hands on this 💕💖💕💖💕💖 cant wait 2 start the next one
