Dunmeshi Daemon AU thoughts BECAUSE I CAN

Laios: She isn’t actually settled, though they both pretend that she is. They never stopped enjoying the flexibility of her being able to change, but during Laios’ time in the military it became clear that it just gave people another excuse to bully him, so she “settled” as a white wolf.

Before the events of the story, only Falin knows that she still changes. Kabru, however, suspects. The rest of the party finds out not long after they set out to save Falin.

After Laios becomes king, she mainly stays in the form of either a lion, a hawk, or the white wolf.

Marcille: Neither Marcille nor her parents had any idea when he would settle, which was frustrating for her, and especially hard when her dad died before it happened.

He eventually settled into a nightingale, not long after she finished Ambrosia, much to her delight. She thought it was all very romantic and grand, even if he does like to mess up her hair.

He doesn’t sing much after the events of the story, but she still tells him he is quite noble and lovely.

Mithrun: Absolutely does not have one. They got ate. Before the dungeon, they were a dove.

Thistle: He took the form of a colorful songbird once Thistle started learning to play music, and would often accompany him. Sometime during Thistle’s thousand years as lord of the dungeon, he separated from Thistle. He wandered the dungeon, spending a lot of time around the town where the people of the Golden Kingdom live. They recognized him, even long after Thistle stopped visiting.

Sometimes he would report to Thistle. Sometimes they would go years without seeing each other.

He wasn’t there for the fight with Laios’ party. Yaad thinks he saw him briefly when Thistle woke up on the surface, but he’s not sure.

Kabru: He desperately wanted her to settle as a bird (which are quite popular with elves and also good at eavesdropping) (yes, the bird imagery of the canaries is very much Part Of Elf Culture in this AU). However, she is a bengal fox. Ah, well. It’s nice to have a piece of his home stuff with him. And she does give very good snuggles.

Falin: FALIN’S IS HARD… I think she might change after the chimera.

I like a beetle for her pre-resurrection. Maybe a ladybug? Or a jewel beetle, if a ladybug is too small.

After the story, she changes to a dragonfly. Everyone (expect Chilchuck) tries very hard not to make the obvious joke there. Chilchuck just makes the joke.

Chilchuck: With his canon weight management, Chilchuck is practical-minded enough to have his job influence his daemon’s form. I think she would be a rat or mouse - something small that can help him with traps, and can fit places where he can’t.

A lot of half-foot adventurers end up with rodent daemons, actually, due to the nature of their usual work. This can be the subject of mockery from the same kinds of people who are happy to use a half-foot as monster bait (or worse). Because of this, Chilchuck doesn’t mind disparaging comments about her - they help him know who is and isn’t trustworthy. However, privately, he’s quite defensive of her.

Senshi: Though she wasn’t technically settled when he went into the dungeon with his mining group, she spent most of her time as something nocturnal and practical for their work. Maybe a badger.

By the time he finally made his way out, she had settled as a tortoise. Though he loves her, the tortoise form is harder to work around sometimes - she’s slow and she takes up a lot of space, and caring for a cold-blooded creature in the dungeon isn’t always easy.

It’s not until after he meets the party, when Laios remarks offhandedly that some tortoises can survive for months without food, that Senshi fully understands why she settled on that form.

Izutsumi: she doesn’t have a daemon. Throughout childhood, this only added to her fears about not being ‘really human,’ and exacerbated her feeling separate and Wrong.

During the encounter with the succubi, she realizes the truth - she is bound to her daemon. That’s where her beast form comes from.

Due to being bound together at a young age, they are unable to change form, and stuck as their favorite form to take at the time - a cat.

The Super Special Secret Krow Lore Post

Aight. So according to the last poll y'all wanted to get the secrets of Krow in nitty gritty detail. There may be still those who don't wanna know (yet) so I'll put it under a read more. Also because it'll likely get long lmao.

His name

So I mentioned that his legal name is Isaiah. His full legal name is Isaiah Kolan Johnson. Isaiah is a biblical name meaning "god is salvation" and his middle name Kolan as well as sounding pretty fucking unfortunate also means "dove keeper". Johnson I just tried to think of the whitest sounding surname I could lmao. Krow was adopted/fostered by a conservative fundamentalist Christian family that valued reputation more than the well being of their kids. The parents have three bio kids and, not counting Krow, eight adopted and/or foster kids. Essentially they adopted/fostered kids to show to their community and church that they're "such good Christians taking in impoverished and/or PoC kids cause they're SUCH good people" but really the only kids that got ANY positive attention or care were the bio sons (the bio daughter was just expected to look after ALL her siblings). All the other kids were pretty neglected both physically, mentally and emotionally. The parents are John and Esther The names of his fellow foster/adopted siblings are: Jacob, David, Matthew, Noah, Peter, Sarah, Abigail and Leah The bio kids names are Adam, Joseph and... Mary. (: Krow ran away from home before he was set to graduate high school.

Krow's Secret, and his birth family

Before I can really get into what "Krow's secret" is, I need to mention is bio/birth family. As I've mentioned, Krow is Indian and Bengali. His parents are immigrants to America, and Krow was born in America. So his nationality is American, but race/ethnicity is Indian/Bengali. Krow's birth name is Sarveshvara Banerjee. Sarveshvara is a name derived from the god Shiva, and specifically means "determination, energy and confidence". His last name, Banerjee, are from a family of which their caste are descended from priests (so Krow actually comes from a pretty darn important caste back in India and Bengal). His father is named Riyan and his mother is named Khushi. They were essentially a victim to racism and classism in America. Krow was taken from them at a very young age and placed into foster care and that is how he was scooped up by the Johnson's.

Now, what is this big secret? As some of you may have guessed, Krow... isn't entirely human. He is descended from Naga (specifically on his father's side), and specifically... his Naga clan were cursed by the goddess Manasa. A long, long time ago, Krow's Naga ancestors were giving terror to the mortal human populace. Doing what they pleased in torturing and abusing humans within their territory. This angered Manasa. Naga were not supposed to be giving humans such grief.

In retribution, Manasa cursed this Naga clan. Cursed them with each suffering their own personal hell and anguish, just as they had caused the humans. For millennia, these Naga and their descendants have each suffered from a curse of their own personal torment, the only salve being that each generation got a more diluted form of the curse... that is until Krow came along.

For whatever reason, genetics just... played out differently and he got a bit more of the Naga bloodline and their traits, and also got a bit more of the curse. What is Krow's own "personal torment"? Well... family is the most important aspect to him. Essentially, he is doomed to never... really a happy family, or a happy life with family.

There hasn't been a way to break the curse, but there have been ways of mitigating it and managing it. If Krow was not taken from his bio parents, he would have grown up learning of his heritage and how to manage. But because he wasn't...

The curse essentially manifests primarily as extreme jealousy, clinging onto those he loves, or pushing away others (sometimes violently). This also explains some of his other traits (getting cold easily, a bit more strength, his teeth). Speaking of his teeth, Krow IS venomous. It's... a bit more diluted than it would be if he were a full Naga, but it's there all the same. His venom has a bit of an aphrodisiac effect on those affected by it. The more one is bitten, the more this takes effect. In essence, if Dove is one who likes being bitten by Krow, they will grow more and more comfortable in his presence unwittingly, writing off red flags and excusing some of his more problematic behaviors. ...Unfortunately though, it is still a venom. Get too much in your system, and it WILL kill you.

All of this to say, once Krow finds out all of this, that he's descended from a cursed Naga blood line and all these physical quirks, it would freak him out so badly that he would, yes, leave Dove in a desperate hope to protect them.

But yeah, that's the big secret I've been keeping hidden for the past couple years. I do have a hope to draw a "what if Krow was a full Naga" drawing at... some point.

I have been in discussion with some friends who are Indian and Bengali about all this. I tried to be as respectful about the culture as I could.

Nicobar pigeons (or “ma-kūö-kö” in Car, a language of the Nicobar Islands) is a beautiful and absolutely fascinating bird - and the closest living relative to the Dodo! They fly in single file columns (some scientists think that the pure white tail is to help facilitate this pattern of flight) and island hop throughout the Bay of Bengal and the Malay Archipelago - they’ve even been spotted as far south as mainland Australia recently! Their wingspan is almost two feet in length! Something I find really neat too is that they’ll sometimes rest or nest on uninhabited little rocky islets between island hops which I just think is so fascinating. Can you imagine coming across a little rocky spit of land in the ocean that you think is uninhabited and then there’s a bunch of beautiful, iridescent pigeons sleeping on it??? Amazing.

Despite being such strong flyers, they largely gather food on foot and off the ground (collecting fruits, seeds, etc).

Anyways, I have come seeking new members for my growing bitty family! Lemme give u a rundown of who I've adopted since Tansy (Campbell). I've gotten an Umey, a BlackPearl (@alphamamlioness), and a Dove (@thecrimsonrescue)! I'm also planning on adopting a Leshy Bitty from @himesbittycenter.

Hi! Thanks so much for your kind words! I’ve taken some time to look at the basic description of the other bitties you’ve gotten, and I came across a post saying that your Umey sees Tansy as a father figure, and honestly, I find that super adorable! I’m glad that he’s not as rough as he was before he got adopted!

As for recommendations, I’ve got a few!

First we have one of the new bitty types, Forests! Forests are Deltaswap Susie Cat Bitties, and they’re quite shy. However, given that your bitties seem to be pretty friendly, I’m sure one of them would find a lot of comfort in their new home if you choose to adopt them! Especially with your dove— although, they might find your Blackpearl pretty fascinating too, given how interested they are in spooky things! Be careful to introduce them properly to your more moody bitties, because they might be too nervous to do it themselves!

If you’re looking for a bitty with a bit more edge, then I recommend another cat bitty, Bengals! These are Deltafell Ralsei bitties, and while they might be rough at first, they’re generally very sweet! You would need take some care to make sure they don’t cause fights, but given how well you’ve integrated Tansy into your home, I have no doubt that you’ll be able to gain their trust in no time, if you choose to adopt one! I can definitely see one of these bitties having a soft spot for your Umey and your Dove as well!

Now, I know this isn’t an undertale bitty, but I can’t help but think that a Marie would be perfect for you as well! Maries are sassy and a bit lazy, but they’re definitely very kind as well! I can see one getting along with Tansy very well, as they don’t take shit from others and are generally very self-sufficient! Although they might need some help exercising and getting up from a comfy position, I have no doubt that a Marie would fit right in your home!

Sooooo-How was it???

it was super fun!! well, i say that, but we all saw that game lol, it was definitely an agonizing 2nd and 3rd quarter. if my brother in law hadn’t taken it upon himself to get me constant refills of vodka sodas i don’t know what i’d have done lmao. 

anyway, i just got home and here’s some rambling about everything below the cut if anyone is interested! 

football thoughts

we got the win, so thank god. i know it was an ugly one, but jesus christ did we need it. the season isn’t saved at 2-4 by any means, but at least it’s not COMPLETELY ruined yet.  defense stepping up was great to see! bj, trey, and dj in particular seemed like they were everywhere they needed to be when they needed to be there, which was awesome. and yeah, i know it was daniel jones and the giants, but they just beat a pretty decent seahawks team and were actually a playoff team two years ago, so i’ll take it for now! like as bad as our defense has been, it certainly hasn’t helped that we’ve been going against some of the top offenses in the league like the ravens and commanders. so it’s good to see them hold an opponent off that we should have been able to hold off, you know? 

special teams also was awsome! ryan rehkow’s punts are really cool to see in person! (they go so high!!)

off the field, sideline thoughts

joe’s 47 yard TD was insane though!!! seeing that in person was wild because of how excited all the bengals fans were and how horrified the giants fans were lmao. and the way he dove right through the pylon at the end had me so scared he didn’t actually make it, it’s so stressful when no one is commentating and telling you exactly what’s going lol. but joe doing his flex!!! and ja’marr and tee and the rest of the guys running up to him! we got a pinky shake!!! ja’marr flexing back?!?! come on. that was adorable! 

speaking of adorable celebrations, after bj tipped that ball that led to germaine’s interception, they had a cute moment on the sideline that i wish i’d captured. they did a little hand shake/celebration thing, and then kind of just like, held onto each other’s arms for way longer than i thought they would lmao. i love those two, their dynamic needs to be talked about more! (and they were roommates etc etc) 

but other than that, it wasn’t really a game for a lot of cute moments 😔 mostly everyone was just frustrated on the sidelines! ja’marr couldn’t sit still and kept getting up to pace around (which feels very On Brand, so that was nice confirmation.) joe would stare intensely at his ipad and sometimes wander off to stand on his own for awhile and watch the game lol. i found it interesting that no one tried to interact with him in those moments, that must be something that he just does sometimes and everyone is used to it! 

OH at one point joe was super pissed after a play, i think it must have been one of his sacks, and you could tell he wanted to, if not slam, at least forcefully place his helmet back on the stand. but as he was about to do it, he noticed that jake’s helmet was in his spot lol. so he had to pause in his angry ritual and move jake’s helmet, and then just kind of sadly set the helmet down instead, poor guy, even that couldn’t go right :( 

and then the very scary part was when joe took that BIG hit and they made him go in the blue tent!!! god i was so drunk and confused and scared at that point, i had to hold my sister’s hand the whole time he was in there. but, thankfully he wasn’t in there long, and he came out looking even more pissed that they made him go in in the first place lmao. 

that’s about all i got! it was a really fun experience and i’m glad i got to see a W! wasn’t quite the week though for a lot of cute moments for sure. but oh well! i’ll see if i have any pictures or videos worth posting….

John: Sakhalin taimen and arapaimas :] She also likes borzois and Afghan hounds. For hugs, it depends on who it's from. Most people she'd get really mad at and aggressively shove them away, despite craving it and deeply loving the single second of touch she allowed. If the hug was from someone like Dante or Balladyna, I think she would break down sobbing and not know whether to cling onto them or push them away. She really needs it.

Gaia: Leopards, spiders, and black-footed cats! Similar to John, she would also push away a hug. She'd be deeply uncomfortable and feel gross (Doesn't like being touched.) Gaia needs her physical space. Even from Don, she wouldn't be able to deal with an extended hug. They feel constricting and suffocating.

One: Silver bengals maybe... They're on my mind because I went back into the hospital and there was one on the first table by the employee entrance. Doves also :] And small kitties in general. He would also be weirded tf out by a hug, and likely want to push the person away. It depends on the context. If it's random, he would try to wriggle free and shy away. If the person was upset and needed it, he would let them stay as long as possible.

Ayo? Krowspriacy don't hold out on me I need to know if you know what it is!

I have a suspicion that there's something supernatural about Krow, or something of the kind.

His glowing eyes. Sharp fanged teeth. Unusual stamina. Strong heavy bones and muscle. Unusual single minded fixation on one partner he intends to have for life.

You did say something about him carrying his father in his bones, so perhaps it's something physical/genetic inherited from his family. Specifically his nature, physicality and temperament may have come from his dad.

I'm wondering if Krow is entirely human. If I was to get fanciful I'd wonder if he was some kind of were-something, beast person, or chimera.

Perhaps even an Indian/Bengali equivalent to a creature from Native American culture, which out of respect I won't name.

I have guessed at him being a Naga or descended from Naga a very long time ago, but I think the answer to that was a no.

Maybe a Bengal tiger. In India there are tribes that have unique bonds and affinity with certain animals. The whole pred-prey thing and interest in birds might fit with a big cat. His territorial nature. Him living in dens. And his sudden unwavering interest in Dove may just be the normal choosing of a mate. Though Bengal tigers are not monogamous and don't mate for life. His courting and parenting more match a bird. He even stalks Dove patiently like prey.

Or maybe he's merfolk lol

Perhaps Krow trying to find his family or at least find out what happened to them led to this discovery and Krow has credible fears of becoming a threat to Dove, or pulling them into that world.

Also that's something I've considered before. Perhaps there was a reason nobody would tell Krow about his family or why he went into care.

Perhaps Krow's mother fled Krow's father with him and wasn't as lucky as her child. Or something went very wrong and Krow is why he's potentially an orphan. (?)
