These two have now been declared house hobbits, due to their consistent bringing of second breakfast.

We do not need second breakfast, but they keep insisting that they share. This hobbit behaviour may be fueld by concern or perchance wishes of praise, but I would like some professional insight to this culturally different generosity.

Also for those with a minute are two to burn here is the draft for that fic I was working on :

“ Douglas come on, we’re gonna be late for the car show!” Leo fussed, tussling with his jacket as he inched toward the door. Next to him, Adam was shining his tennis shoes and nodding enthusiastically. “ Yeah Dougy we gotta get going or all the dopeass parking spots will be gone.”

Douglas had spent most of the day moving his old boxes from the Academy to the Davenport Penthouse and was frankly tired at this point. He’d made the questionable choice to promise Leo and Adam a trip to the Centuim City Car show for “good behavior” and couldn't deny that they kept up their end of the bargain. 

“ Parking? Really Adam?” he sighed, taking a moment to sift through a box marked. Evil Items to deal with/ Figure out later. Damn himself he really outta not leave things to be done at a later date…

“ Yeah! I heard they have killer hotdogs too! Get this… They have a condiment bar and the condiments come out in little gasoline pumps!” he exclaimed holding his hands out with a tilt as if he had said something groundbreaking. They looked at him for a bit. Leo opened his mouth, thought better of it, and closed it again before returning to Douglas.

“ Come on Lil D… You can deal with those boxes later. We gotta get outta here before Chase and Big D come back and beg to go too. You know those two are real party poopers.” Douglas grimaced a bit as he dug deeper in the box. “ Geez Leo I get it. I just really wanna get all these boxes to my room before tomorrow!” 

“ Whats happening down here?”

Kaz chuckled, dragging his way down the steps. “ Actually, save your breath. I was eavesdropping. Heh. Classic Kaz move.” He flew the last two steps, to lazy to even walk the rest of the way down, and stopped with a hover over the boxes. Oliver came down right after him his nose buried in a comic.

“ Oh, this is perfect!” Leo gasped. “ Pepper spray and Frosty the Nerd here can use their freaky deeky powers to put these boxes away for you Dougy!” Adam nodded along enthusiastically.

“ Yes! Wait, I thought their super names were Wild-Spark and Frost-Flare? I already had them sign my limited edition Frost-Spark branded thermoses with those names… How can I resell them on Eway for triple the auction price now!” Adam questioned with a whine.

“Doesn't matter because I don't trust these super-powered geeks with a fresh chicken egg let alone my personal belongings.” Douglas griped; continuing to dig in the box. “ And I think some collectors would actually pay top dollar for items with the original names…” he added with a nod to Adam. Just as his hand came into contact with a suspiciously familiar bag, Oliver used his super strength to lift the whole box away. 

“ Who says you can't trust us? We’re very trustworthy!” he bargained while flinging the box like it was weightless. 

“ Us. Yeah, we don't trust you guys, You are very inexperienced. Super. Yeah. Yea..” the Davenports and Dooley mildly commented their opinions overlapping each other but all agreeing to the same conclusion. “Yeah, I would NOT trust the supes personally…” Kaz added flipping through the comic Oliver had left discarded.  

Oliver swatted at his arm. “ OW. Super strength Oli!”

“ Well, I want you guys to trust us. We’re on the same team and if gaining your trust involves putting up a few boxes… well I think we can handle that.” He said with a sure nod. Kaz was quiet. Oliver swatted at him again.“ DUDE. SUPER. STRENGTH.” 

“ Kaz. Don't leave me hanging here!” Oliver hissed as he set the box down. With a groan, Kaz began his reprisal:

“ Do I have to?” 

“ No. KAZ. I’ll do all the work while you sit there and look pretty.” 

“Pretty sure that���s what I’m best at. But alright, fine. I’ll move the box.”

Using as little strength as possible Kaz used his foot to shift a small box a few inches before settling back down to read the comic.  “ Done.”

“ Kaz!” Oliver began. “ Chill Oli, I'm a professional.” 

The Davenports and Dooley stood there for a second before Leo clasped his hands again. “ Good enough for us! Come on. Dougy. Adam. Let's go.” He grabbed his uncle and brother with his bionic limb and drug them out.

“ Alright! Alright!” Douglas fussed. “ You two just put those boxes in my room, I'll deal with them later. Do NOT look in them, especially the ones that say Evil on ‘em.”

“He's not talking to me,” Kaz assured his buddy

“I'm only talking to you, Kaz.” Douglas reaffirmed from the hall outside the apartment.

As soon as Douglas, Adam, and Leo had rushed out, leaving the penthouse in a flurry of excitement for the car show, Kaz took a moment to sit back, stretch, and lazily inspect the room. His eyes landed back on the box that Douglas had left behind, and the familiar mischievous grin tugged at his lips.

He zipped over to the box as fast as he could. The label Evil Items to deal with/ Figure out later practically screamed "Look in me!" in Kaz’s mind.

Oliver, still awkwardly hovering near the box, raised an eyebrow and shot a wary glance at Kaz. “Kaz, do you ever listen to anyone?”

Kaz’s face brightened, as he peered at Oliver. “ Come on Oli-pop, Dougie told me not to look. Nothing about riffling through them. So you know what that means.”

“Uh…” Oliver hesitated. “It means you’re gonna “riffle” through it anyway and probably make a mess?”

“Bingo!” Kaz grinned wide and started sifting through the box.

Oliver sighed. “Kaz, you're like a walking disaster, man. I swear.” He watched, making no real effort to stop his friend with his arms crossed, as Kaz dug deeper into the box, tossing aside old, dusty items like he was shopping for treasure.

To be frank he was curious too. The Davenports had told little about Douglas’ past before rejoining his family. And maybe this box would hold some juicy secrets.

Kaz dug in deep pushing past through innators and doomsday devices before pulling out a black bag marked with a large, red "DESTROY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE" tag. His eyes sparkled. “Oooh, what’s this? If it says ‘destroy,’ it’s gotta be good!”

Oliver immediately raised his voice. “Kaz, don’t—”

Just as he spoke, the door to the penthouse swung open, and in strode Chase and Donald. Donald was talking to his wife Tasha, assuring her that Leo was with Douglas and that he and Chase had safely arrived.

Chase’s eyes immediately landed on Kaz, and his face scrunched in typical exasperation as he fumbled with his satchel.  

“Kaz!” he shouted, beeling toward him. “ I know that look on your face! Whatever that is you shouldn't be touching it!”

Kaz grinned and shrugged. “Yeah, but like, if it says destroy on it and I find that interesting, that’s like… an invitation, right? Like, maybe I’m doing the owner a favor!”

Chase’s expression darkened and he lunged for the bag. “No, Kaz! That’s literally the opposite of a favor!”

Kaz, now holding the black bag aloft like a prized find, gave it a little shake. “C’mon, Chaser, what’s the worst that could happen~”

“A lot, if you're involved, Super klutz!” Chase fussed.

“Puulease~” Kaz gaufed. “ I can be-”

As if on cue, the bag slipped from Kaz’s hands as they tussled over it, hitting the ground with a muffled thud. Both boys froze for a moment, looking down at the bag.

Then, with a horrifying crack, the object inside shattered into a million glass-like pieces. Which then slid out of the shredded bag.

“Great Job Kazemerias!” Chase proclaimed sarcasm oozing from his voice as he lunged down to pick them up, but the jagged shards glinted dangerously.

“Chase, careful!” Oliver yelled, taking a step forward, but Chase ignored him.

“Get back!” he barked, swatting at Kaz and Oliver who were trying to help, but clearly making things worse in Chase’s mind. 

Donald, who had finished his call with Tasha from the doorway, now stepped forward. His face twisted in mild frustration, but the calm, authoritative edge to his voice cut through the tension. “ That looks like one of Doug's boxes. He's got some really dangerous stuff in storage... I can't imagine he’d let you look-” he stopped himself before continuing. “ No wait he would do that. Well- Oliver I wouldn't expect you to go through someone's private belongings like that. ” 

Oliver muttered a nervous, “Sorry, Mr. Davenport.” and Kaz gasped in annoyance. 

“ The emphasis on the you is really telling Mr. Davenport.”

Chase let out his own indignant huff. “ You made this mess Kaz so I think it’s a well-deserved discrepancy.” 

The glass pieces were still scattered across the floor, glimmering menacingly. Chase let out a sharp hiss of pain and clutched his palm. Blood began to seep from a slit on his hand, from where he’d cut himself while trying to handle the shards. His eyes flashed with frustration and… something else,  as he pressed the wound against his side, not looking at anyone else as he pulled out a pen-like machine from his satchel. Staring at it for a second before shaking his head as if he had escaped a trance, and began fiddling with the device.

“Chase!” Donald’s voice softened, the concern obvious. He quickly strode over, knelt beside him, and examined the cut. “Let me get you a bandage, kid. I've been working on these quick healing strips. This cut is a bit deep but it should help…” He strode off to get the bandages

Kaz scratched his head. “I didn’t mean to break it. Honest. I thought it’d be like… a million dollars or something. Ya know rich people leave stacks of those in random places…”

Oliver awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck, looking at the floor. “Yeah, I—I didn’t exactly stop him. So... I’m sorry too. We should’ve just put the boxes in Doug’s room like he asked.”

Chase gave a half-hearted glare, wincing as he flexed his palm to examine the cut “ Whatever. I should've been more careful cleaning this mess. God knows you probably would've sliced your finger clean off. ”

Kaz’s face twisted in mock offense. “ Maybe, Chaser…”

“Mm-hmm,” Donald muttered, coming back up with the bandage. He leaned down, applying a glowing blue strip to Chase's palm. It shrunk to the exact parameters of the cut and faded to match his son's skin tone.

“How many trail runs did you test this thing with, Mr. Davenport?” Chase asked, running a finger over it. “ Loads, I've been toying with these for decades and they've been doing amazing in practice these past two years. What I can’t figure out is how to manufacture them at a less expensive cost so they can be sold to distributors and consumers for less” Donald stood up and dusted his hands off. “ These strips can help a lot of people… they’ll pull out bacteria and all kinds of icky stuff out of wounds.”

“And ,Next time Kaz, leave the dangerous stuff alone. That includes whatever that was.” He gestured at the broken pieces, which were nowhere to be seen anymore.

“I, uh... got rid of the pieces with my mini-atomizer,” Chase added sheepishly holding up the pen-like contraption, finally glancing up. “It’s... gone now. Shouldn’t be a problem.”

Kaz eyed the pen, already planning things. “Well, that’s one way to make it disappear, I guess.”

“I swear, you two...” Donald sighed, rubbing his temples. “Just... just go sit down, okay? All three of you and Chase don't mess around too much with the healing strip. Whatever you do, don't get it wet. I haven't figured out water resistance for this particular model yet.” He cast a pointed glance at Kaz and Oliver before leaving them all to sulk quietly.

Kaz and Oliver, both apologized again to Chase, sat down, the atmosphere hanging with a mixture of guilt and awkwardness. Chase went to the Kitchen planning to cook up a five-star meal probably.

Kaz stretched out on the couch, looking unbothered again despite everything. “That was kind of fun, though.”

Oliver shot him a warning look but didn’t respond. Instead, he turned his attention back to the spot where the mysterious black glass had vanished and thought about the mini-atomizer and how he could get his hands on it.

Published by Steve Lawrence and edited with Peter Hujar and Andrew Ullrick, Newspaper was published in New York City between 1968 and 1971.

Newspaper was a wordless, picture-only periodical thatran for fourteen issues and featured the disparate practices of over forty artists. With an editorial focus on placing appropriated material alongside new works, the periodical sought to codify a visual language of high and low culture that represented contemporary society in the late 1960s. While largely overlooked in art-historical discourse, Newspaper showcased many of the most revered artists working in the United States at the time, as well as an emerging coterie of queer artists.

The mid to late sixties was a flourishing period for artists experimenting with new media formats such as books, records, and magazines to create or distribute their work. Newspaper was one of the first artist-published tabloids of its era, preceding Andy Warhol’s Interview and Les Levine’s Culture Hero, both of which debuted in 1969. However, in contrast to other tabloids, Newspaper focused strictly on images.

At a time when photography was not being exhibited regularly in galleries, Newspaper provided an alternative exhibition space for the medium and some of the era’s greatest photographers. The publication’s large size and unbound format encouraged readers to take it apart and hang its pages, which was how Newspaper was installed at the Museum of Modern Art’s influential Information show in 1970.

This is not to say that Newspaper only existed within the narrow confines of the art world, far from it. It lived within (and shared contributors with) a robust network of underground and queer periodicals like The New York Review of Sex, Rags, and Gay Power, among others. Yet, unlike many of these tabloids, Newspaper has largely disappeared from the discourse around underground magazines, queer publishing, and artists’ periodicals.

All fourteen issues of Newspaper are compiled in this volume for the first time.

Our park’s home region of the Pacific Northwest is known for being green. Rainy sometimes, but mostly green. A lot of that green comes from the great forests blanketing the western slopes of the Cascades Mountains down to the shores of the Puget Sound and Pacific Ocean. Looking at the forests, you’ll find a few key species. Trees that are heavy hitters of the PNW. Douglas-fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii, is one of those species.

Our Douglas-fir is not a true fir tree. It is more of a cousin to the true firs in the Abies family. Douglas-firs can also grow to great heights; about 250 feet tall. And they can live a long time, 600-800 years old and sometimes upwards of 1,000 year old. How does a tree like this survive our snowy, windy winters in the Cascade Mountains?

It helps to be a bit cold hardy. Cold hardiness has to do with a tree’s ability to deal with cold temperatures and frosty days. For many folks interested in growing things (trees, gardens, plants), key pieces of information are how many days of frost (or conversely frost-free days) does a location have on average in a year, and how many days of frost a plant can take before the cold kills it. Douglas-firs have a range of ability to handle frosty days. Near sea level, douglas-firs are found growing to great heights and volume in places with very few days of frost. But these trees also seem to like the Cascade and Sierra Nevada mountains. Up in the higher elevations, douglas-firs can be found growing and surviving in places with only 80-180 frost-free days a year. These trees might not grow as big as their siblings in closer to sea level, but they are still impressive.

Hiii! Idk if you still do amephil headcanons but I've LOVED that pair for a looong time now and was wondering what you think their interaction was back in the early 1900's!

i am always game for sharing amephil headcanons! i may not post about them much anymore, but i do still regularly think about them

early 1900s amephil is very special to me. this is the height of their fruk era — that is, they care for each other, and are very determined to cloak that all under many layers of antagonism and petty bickering. how antagonistic they are is dependent on the exact year: 1900s, they are very frosty and don't actually talk; 1910s, they gradually start talking outside of official meetings; 1920s, they have fun together and petty bickering is the norm; 1930s, they start fucking; 1940s, they are very emotional. throughout all years, it is complicated — i touch on that a bit in my fanfic, "my heart is ever true" on ao3!

i like to think that america really wanted piri to live with him. it didn't matter where. whether it was at america's house, or the manila hotel where douglas macarthur made himself home, or the mansion at baguio that was built to be the summer residence for the american governor-generals, or anywhere else. he'd say he's just exercising his right as the colonizer, but he also just doesn't like to be lonely, and piri is the only one he can force to live with him.

which sucks, because after centuries of being hold up in spain's mansion, piri really wants to set up a home of his own, in the country of his own. but he also can't do much about it. so he sets out to be a really annoying housemate, but america takes it all in stride, so it's not all that effective of a revenge as he wanted to be.

i really like the thought of piri and america having the time of their life in the roaring twenties of old manila. this is after america fights in wwi, and when he comes back, he is desperate to leave that in the past. he throws himself into manila life with a fervor, and piri is all too happy to go along with that, if it means he can finally live in his capital. their days are filled with going to clubs, getting excited about movies, dancing the rigodon de honor at official balls, and walking along the pasig river. america teaches piri how to drive a car, both endeared and frustrated that piri keeps insisting on using the spanish terms for everything.

WARNING: GENDER IDENTITY HEADCANONS

So, here is my design for Duck McIntosh - formally known as Montague Collett - the GREAT WESTERN engine. Currently, due to enforced gender dysphoria during their formative years, Duck is making temporary use of they/them pronouns while they come to terms with being able to express their gender. Duck is married to Donald, with whom they live on the Arlesbrough branch line (Aka the "Little Western") alongside Douglas, Oliver, and Toad. They have two children with Donald - Grace and Austin.

Duck was one of many near-identical siblings on the GREAT WESTERN railway and worked for much of their life at Paddington Station in London. Unfortunately, the controller of the time did not believe that his engines should express individuality and behave like the machines they were. He refused to refer to them as anything beyond "it" and "them" and actively discouraged any form of individual expression - including gender and especially romantic attachments.

Duck is, unfortunately, a very compliant engine with an almost religious reverence for rules and procedures, proving very easy to indoctrinate into the GREAT WESTERN Ways. As such, Duck believed themselves to be happy and proud to be a part of the GWR. Even if subconsciously, they knew something wasn't right.

Perhaps this is why Duck was willing to move to Sodor, where they soon proved to be a valuable - if somewhat forthright and annoying - addition to the North Western Railway. It was here that Duck began to notice the use and acceptance of gender by the other engines.

However, this did not come to a head until the arrival of Donald and Douglas. Instantly befriending the two, Duck began to develop an unfamiliar... "attachment" to them both. Completely uncertain even as to what they were feeling, let alone what to do about it, many frustrating years passed before Donald literally forced the issue of the now very serious feelings growing between them. With patient encouragement from Donald and his twin, Duck fell in love with and married Donald. Fortunately, the arrival of Oliver and Toad helped the twins to understand Duck's gender confusion and help them through it.

Duck is very hardworking, loyal to their friends, and is trying to be more mindful of their GREAT WESTERN pride. They are still very good friends with Percy, but have a very frosty relationship with Thomas. After a rocky start, Duck has settled into their life on Sodor with their North Western Railway family, diesels, and steam engines alike.

There is still a lot of bad blood between Duck and Diesel, but it seems that both have reached an unspoken agreement to not acknowledge the existence of one another as much as they can.

I’m so sorry but…. brace yourselves for some gut wrenching angst from past memories!

The heavy metal door closed behind Donald, who was on the ground form being literally thrown into the horrific punishment tool known as the Cooler.

“Yer goin’ ta stay in ther’ fer the next few days as punishment fer breakin’ one of our most prime rules. “ Annabel spoke to Donald through the tiny window on the cooler door.

Wincing a little from the pain of hitting the ground quite harshly, Donald pushed himself up to his feet so he was face to face with his fellow Caledonian Spirit. “Why do yer think it was me and Douggie? Do you even hav’ any proof?” The Fire Spirit challenged, beginning to shiver from the frosty cold.

Annabel still kept a harsh, stern look on her face. “Yer can’t lie to us, Donald. Angus saw yer and yer brother, Douglas with that yon human lad.” She then pinched the bridge between her eyes. “And revealing your powers in front of him too.”

Donald’s head shot up at the information, his red eyes flickering like dying embers as he silently seethes with anger and hatred towards Angus. He sucked in a deep breath, coughing slightly due to the freezing air.

“Angus is wrong! Douggie n’ I didn’t reveal ourselves to the little laddie! He was separated from his mother and we used our will o the wisps to help him! We didn’t do anything wrong!”

Annabel wasn’t convinced however. “Don’t try ta talk her way out of this, Donald. We all know that the of yer always go off and interact with thos’ humans and yer drivers and firemen. This is yer 37th time in here, as well as yer’ brother, yer both need ta start actin’ like a proper Caledonian Spirit!”

A wave of horror rushed through the cold fire spirit at the mention of Douglas. “Douggie?” A look of pure anger appeared on Donald’s face and he hit his fits against the metal door. “Where ma brother?! What did yer do to him?!”

“Yer brother is in the other Cooler. But since yer the one who got him involved as usual, he’ll only be spendin’ three days in there.” Annabel continued speaking. “Yer be wise to start reflecting on yer actions if yer want to be let out around ta same day as him.”

Not saying another word; the water spirit started walking away, ignoring Donald’s cries inside the cooler.

“NO WAIT! LET ME OUT, WE DIDN’ DO ANYTHING WRONG! GET US OUT O’ HERE, RIGHT NOW! OPEN THIS COOLER!”

The fire spirit continued hitting and kicking against the cooler door with so much might that if he was human, every single bone in his body would be broken. Losing the spark in his form, Donald stumbled away from the door shivering uncontrollably as frost started forming on his clothes amd body.

“No please…” He then grabbed a fistful of his dark jacket, tears beginning to roll down his face. “Why… Why?! Why did we…?”

A memory flashed in his mind.

“Just look at him’ Douggie. We can’t leave this poor laddie by himself wit’ a huge crowd of humans, what if his mother is still here?” Donald spoke to his twin brother, the two of them still watching the crying boy all huddled up one the bench.

Douglas’ face soften a little, but he was still worried of what might happened if one of the Caledonian spirits caught them. “Ah know, Donnie… If mah Driver lost his little daughter, he would be worried too.” A look of determination then appeared. “Alright, mah stubborn brother of mine! Let’s help this yon laddie find his mother.”

Remembering that memory, Donald collapsed to the ice covered floor. “Why did we helped him?!” He then started punching the ground, too cold to use any of his fire magic to keep warm. “Why couldn’t I leave him alone?!”

Now beginning to cry loudly, Donald grabbed the sides of his head and got off the ground. “Why did ah dragged myself and Douggie into that?!” The Fire spirit then let himself fall onto a large burlap sack which functions as a very hard and uncomfortable bed. “Ah hate this, Ah hate this, Ah hate this so much!” He then pulled himself into a curled up position, clawing at the back of his clothes as he desperately tries to regain warmth. “Ah hate this railway! Ah wish it woul’ just burn to ta ground! Please, please, please! Give us a chance! Please let us be free! Let us live our lives in a better place!!” The despairing spirit prayed repeatedly over and over as he continued crying.

As Michael Parkinson turns 87 (28th March, 2022) it's worth looking back at his chat show that ran throughout the 1970s. As he later said, it was a good time for an interview programme because many of the Hollywood greats were still alive and very willing to talk.

Parky's own background - son of a pitman from Barnsley, Yorkshire, who loved going to the movies - often informed his interviewing style, and he would be genuinely interested in how someone rose from working class or impoverished circumstances to achieve great success.

Neither Parky nor his guests always took themselves too seriously. Having discussed the desperate poverty of Kirk Douglas' early life, Douglas said, "my wife told me, 'one day you'll be devastated, you'll meet someone who was actually poorer than you were'." Michael Parkinson himself later recounted that he was such an admirer of Fred Astaire's graceful movements, including the way he walked, that on the show that Astaire was appearing, Parkinson fell down the entrance stairs leading to the studio set as he came on.

He almost always achieved a great rapport with his guests, resulting in fascinating, enlightening conversations. There were some exceptions; his interview with John Wayne in 1974 became a little frosty over Wayne's right-leaning politics and enthusiasm for HUAC and the Hollywood blacklist.
