Review Proper

So, I completely forgot about this. I was supposed to put this in for last on my 2019 log so that AxA would follow it. 😂 If you’ve read my review for the first volume, you’d know that I was looking forward to the second couple. Reading and listening to their story now, I’m confused as to why I said that I was interested in them in the first place. Did I somehow forget that Amamiya was the ghost that molested Yuuji in the train? Lord. 😂 

Anyway, my personal feelings about the plot aside, the voice work here was great. This is what I meant by Shirai Yuusuke performances that cannot be denied praise. I guess he ended 2019 on a good note, but started 2020 on the wrong foot. Here’s to hoping that he does better in Koubutsu 3 with Miyake Kenta like he did in the first installment. 🤞 

Nakajima Yoshiki always does good in DoS, there’s no surprise about that. I’m glad to see that he’s always consistent with both Kousukes. Furukawa Makoto also did great here, and I kinda did miss his more mature and cool performances. He used a lower pitch here, but I didn’t hear him struggle, which was nice. Looks like both of our semes have ended 2019 on a great note.

As for Fukamachi Toshinari who has only been in the industry for about two years, his Amamiya sounded pretty decent, but I’d like to hear something else that’s not written by Tokishiba to judge his acting abilities. 😂 As y’all know by reading the manga, Amamiya’s quite the confusing character, so if Toshinari ever struggled here, it should be attributed to his character and not acting. He actually has a pretty good tone that could do well with banchou/oranyan type of characters. I think that he’d also be a shoe in for Takahashi Hiroki roles (both in the BL and general voice acting industry) because they kind of share the same range. He’s only ever had two? BLCDs where he’s led in, but I don’t plan on listening to the first one, so here’s to hoping hearing him do well in another one and if the stars align, the third installment of DoS.

It stood pretty true to the manga, so reading it along is definitely possible. Nakajima Yoshiki and Shirai Yuusuke had great chemistry with each other from the start, so them having that same chemistry here again is to be expected. Makonyan is definitely so much more experienced than Toshinari, but no one was out-performing anyone here, which was nice. If you’re a fan of the series, I would highly recommend listening to this. I’ve also heard that the manga has been licensed in English, so congrats to sensei!

BLCD Review: DoS Obake ga Nekasete Kurenai

What will become of poor Yuuji after Kousuke the ghost confesses to falling for him? (From Yaoi Sekai)

Review Proper

First of all, I’ve been following the manga since it started, and despite it’s needlessly long run time and odd popularity, it still didn’t get to me. I simply do not like this work at all or currently rather because I believe that you really can’t say that you dislike something if you don’t read, watch, or listen to it in full (although I’m pretty sure that I’m still not going to like it when it ends).

I’ve had this CD two weeks after it was released, and I’ve only listened to it yesterday? because I thought that it wouldn't be fair if I just jumped onto Answer and I didn't deal with my backlog first. This was so far up in my BLCD backlog - wait, I think it’s the first one on the list. 😂

So yeah, um, despite how utter trash the plot was both in the manga and here (it stood true to the manga though so props to that) I guess what I’m going to review is how they executed the whole thing. 

On the voice work - I’d have to say that roughly sixty percent of the whole CD is just the pair fucking, so you’d expect that works like these put a strain on the voice actors because you can only voice out sex so many ways, right? It really surprised me that Shirai Yusuke and Nakajima Yoshiki pulled it off quite well. There really wasn’t a pattern that showed through, and their actions definitely weren’t recycled. 👍The casting was okay too, and they managed to match with the characters’ personalities - I was surprised that Haruki was voiced by Kawahara Yoshihisa (like, even if he was straight, loving him unrequitedly for the rest of my life sounds like a better idea) because it’s just weird to listen to a BLCD where he isn’t part of the main cast. 

Though I would have appreciated it if the second pair were part of it, I don’t think that their volume has already finished. I mean, none of the stories make sense and are pressing my morals, but the second one certainly seems more interesting than this one. 

Execution-wise, this should be well above the standards. So for those who like the series, I’d say that you should all give this a go. Reading the manga while listening to the CD is definitely possible.

But since I don’t like this plot, Francesca gives this a 5 out of ten (5 for the execution and voice work).
