just a few

i'd been thinking goats for a while but sounds like sheep, particularly hair sheep like barbados blackbelly, dorper and katahdin are hardier, much brush just as well, and don't mind getting rained on as much as goats

anyone here ever deal with these sheep? not the woolly type mind you, these are hair sheep in particular

WIP Wednesday

i haven't written much this week, i've been super ill with god knows what, it's not a cold or covid, i've had both of those many times before and know what they feel like, but as well as a really sore throat, i'm near deaf from the way it's affected my ears. between that, work and lambing, i haven't had much time for writing, but last night while i was waiting for my painkillers to kick in i wrote a little bit of Andromache.

Andy is bi (to use a modern term, though of course ancient people didn't even conceptualise gender the same way we do, so would not have used the same labels), however at this point in the story she is still far from realising she likes girls, so she has very complicated feelings about her beautiful sister in law, Helen. i feel like it's a pretty common queer experience to look back on relationships years later with hindsight and go "ohh, i was being gay" lmao

Helen and I scoffed in unision, and her head swivelled towards me. Ten years on, she was still so lovely- her perfect brown ringlets with not a hair out of place, her emerald green eyes framed by long lashes, her full, heart shaped lips with their perfect vermillion hue. She had painted small spots high on her cheeks in some pearlescent pigment, complementing the strings of pearls she wore in her hair, effortlessly outshining those of us like myself who wore simple amber and carnelian beads. I understood why Paris took her, and why he could not let her go. I loved her and hated her all at once.

i'm going down a bit of a mycenaean style rabbithole to get a good mental image of these characters, but i cane draw for the life of me so am working on a document which will consist od fanart, classical art, cosplays and historical artefacts that can be pieced together into a mental image of each character. Helen wears a lot of pearls to associate her with Aphrodite, who came from the sea.

as for lambing, we now have 14 lambs (2 singles, 3 sets of twins, 2 sets of triplets) and we're only halfway through! these are our twin boys, they're 1/4 dorper and 3/4 easycare, we have a set of twin girls who are the same- one black, one white.
