What do you think of when you imagine dorm room decor? Gone are the days of stacked milk crates and second-hand futons, that’s for sure. For today’s college freshmen, think custom window treatments, organic bedding and on-trend design accessories. Local interior designer Nana Winters of Nana Winters Interior Design’s latest venture, Dorm Digs by Nana, has the perfect solution for design-minded co-eds who are looking for an upscale and personalized dorm style or who have a strong desire to up their dorm decor game.

“I couldn’t wait for college. It’s a time like no other in which you shape your future, make life long connections and express your individuality. I want to be able to help you create a space that speaks to who you are but also takes the stress out of trying to create it on your own. Dorm life is a one of a kind experience and it should be a space you want to be in and look forward to going back to to study, laugh and live in,” explains Nana.

This is not your average dorm-room staples shopping experience. This is a luxury, custom-design experience that will transform any bland dorm room into something truly unique and beautiful.

Most dorm rooms feature cinder block walls, and have strict rules regarding hanging art. Nana has found new ways to hang both artwork and window treatments while abiding by strict campus facilities rules.

Nana and her savvy college-aged team of brand ambassadors and installation experts recently made over a dorm room on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville featuring four inspirations to showcase the four distinct looks available through Dorm Digs by Nana. These looks were selected as the top inspirations through a series of on-campus surveys that asked sorority girls to weigh in on their favorite styles, dorm room needs and the accessories they covet.

“I grew up on a college campus, in Russellville. My father was the president of Arkansas Tech University, and we would have college kids playing frisbee in our yard. 01 | The Bohemian This design, like all of the dorm looks, features Nana’s custom bed skirt to hide storage and a mini-fridge under the bed. Bed skirts, no-hang window treatments and Nana’s custom headboards are all available á la carte through Dorm Digs. All headboards and bed skirts are adjustable so they can be taken to the sorority house or off-campus housing next year, too.

02 | The Parisian This design features soft, cream colors and a plush ottoman. All ottomans are lidded for storage. Students need these to step up onto their beds, which are often vaulted height-wise to maximize storage. Nana finds that students loved succulents, and she incorporates small, easy-to-care-for potted succulents in her dorm designs.

03 | The Classic White and Gold This design features another college favorite, the handmade knotty throw. Nana gets hers through local knitter Hayden Throw, and these can be purchased a la carte through Dorm Digs. String lights were another popular accessory that are subtly featured in all dorm design styles.

04 | The Custom Couture This design is perfect for the girl with the budget who would like to have a truly distinct look that reflects her interests and personality. Nana will work one-on-one as a personal interior designer to design a room that captures each client’s look. Pictured here is Nana’s own custom couture creation, featuring a piece of original art by local artist Raney Von Gremp.
