When: 22 November, 1979 Where: Gryffindor dorms Who: Tamsin + @purkissmyass
“Have you ever heard of any like, voice warming up techniques?” Suffice to say, Tamsin was a bundle of nerves before tonight’s quidditch match. It’d be her first night commentating. “Should saucy sharks seek shelter soon?“ She gasped. “I sound all sorts of tongue tied!”

Doris frowned slightly. She couldn’t even imagine the hurt she was feeling. As much as she and Ella might have clashed in the past, Doris was close to her own father and couldn’t even fathom him involved anything scandalous, let alone the fact that it would hurt her mother enormously. “You and him are close, aren’t you?”
.
Clearing her throat, Ella sat up a little bit straighter. “We are, it we were. I honestly don’t know anymore. I never thought him capable of something like this.” She would admit that things had been strained with him for the duration of his relationship with her stepmother but still this was something she had never expected. Now there were so many questions swirling around her mind. Like had he ever cheated on her mother.

Doris wasn’t sure who she initially thought Ella might be referring to, but she certainly hadn’t really been expecting it to be her father. Someone else she was close to in her life. Older brother, maybe an uncle, or someone else. “What? Nooooo.”
.
Ella held back her tears, deciding that she would shed no more for the man who held his family in so little regard. It pained her. She loved her father, but this entire situation was causing her too much selfish turmoil, she didn’t know what to do. “It’s awful.”

Doris looked surprised. It wasn’t just that Ella, who was normally always on top of things, had actually requested the extension, but it was that she looked genuinely disquieted. Doris had no doubt people always had their troubles and struggles, but Ella was certainly the type who likely hid it. At least much better than she was doing now. “Yeah, of course. We’ve got loads of other things we can slide in to cover your space. You know, with all the news happening.” And it was true, with all that seemed to be going on, there was always something to be written and covered.
“Everything alright?” she asked after a beat. It was truly alarming, but Doris couldn’t also help to be nosy. Though, she was sure the other girl would tell her to mind her own. Didn’t hurt to try.
.
Ella nodded, thankful for Doris’ understanding. Only a month back to classes and she felt like she was letting herself down. “I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed in myself like this before.” Ella admitted, surprising herself. She and Doris weren’t close. In fact their first meeting had been a rather tempestuous affair. No doubt to Ella’s own icy nature and distrust of people, but Ella couldn’t deny that the girl seemed to have a strong set of morals and values.
“I’d be much better if men could be trusted.” Ella let slip as Doris asked her if she was alright. “What do you do when the one man who’s never supposed to disappoint you messes up in the worst way?”
