He’s Missing

He’s missing, like, truly missing.  They can’t find him, he left behind his dog, which he would never do on purpose.  Just poof, gone, nothing.  And I miss him.

We dated briefly, but always friends.  I broke it off because there were things about him that just didn’t fit.  That’s ok, that’s normal, that’s healthy.  But man, do I miss him.  

I miss his rambling texts telling me how amazing I am, how much he misses me.  Long phone calls while he tells me the story of getting drunk and winding up naked at the front desk of the hotel.  He’s a big goofball sober, drunk, even more so.  I can picture all of it so clearly while he tells me.  Laughing hysterically the both of us.  I miss him.

I called him a bull in a china closet, because it was true.  He’s a tall guy, loud voice, big personality, and not aware of any of it.  It could be a bit grating after awhile, but I could be honest with him and tell him to settle down, and he would.  I miss him.

The last time we hung out before he moved, he got drunk and kept trying to tell me he loved me, and I wouldn’t let him.  I didn’t want to hear it, because I didn’t feel the same.  I love him, but not in the way he wanted me to, and I just couldn’t bear to hear it.  I would hear it now, I miss him.

We would never have worked out, he’s younger and has a whole life to live, and I was/am so excited to watch his life unfold and share in his happiness. He was always happy, and upbeat, and positive.  I miss him.  I want to hear his voice.  I want him to send me a text with a kissy face, because he always did.

Come home, come home to your family and your friends.  We need you, we miss you.  I need you, I miss you.  I love you.

Now that was one she’d definitely never seen. It looked like by all accounts, that creature should have been a human. Human skin, human legs, human feet. Yet there was a trait she’d never seen in a human before. A beautiful pair of wings. Was this some kind of human, bird hybrid? Birds were a little scary, though her fear of them had lessened since meeting Scuttle.

But birds ate fish.

More curious than anything else, the mermaid watches from a nearby rock. Observes, so that she might learn something new about this fascinating creature.
