WIP/OC Tag
Thanks @bambmazing and @raiswanson for the tag. Y’all know I’ll never pass up a chance to blab about my faves. And as I’m still bedridden, it’s not as though I have anything better to do.
Pick a WIP and one of your OCs.
Ok I’m going with #27 (the main WIP) because I just finished the first draft of #16 (the Mesopotamia short) and I’m ready for A Break™ from that dude. And... let’s go with Raven bc i love him and i dont think ive yelled about him enough.
1. List five basic facts about your OC.
1. He’s charismatic as fuck. This boy will win over your heart in two seconds flat and have you committing crimes for him in the next two seconds.
2. He’s also incredibly loyal. He is the human version of a large dog that thinks it’s a lapdog and will Fite anyone who dares come near its people.
3. Speaking of which, he has a complicated relationship with a street dog named Rory.
4. He has the smallest, smoothest, most delicate hands—which seem a little out of place with the rest of him.
5. On an unrelated note, he is the reigning champion at Jenga.
2. If your OC could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
Teleportation. Because let’s be real, that shit would be cool and dramatic.
3. Post a picture or GIF that sums up your OC.
4. Summarize your WIP in ten words or less.
“One man’s journey to befriend several children having existential crises”
5. Do you have any villains in your story?
Hmm, no, not in the conventional sense. I’m a big fun of setting up two groups with opposing goals and making both of them sympathetic to the reader so that everybody and nobody is an antagonist. (Also read: I’m too attached to all of my characters to make any of them evil.)
6. What’s easier for you to write, dialogue or description?
AHAHAHA DIALOGUE CAN DIE A FIERY DEATH!!!!!!!! Seriously, anybody who knows me even the slightest bit knows how gay I am for description.
7. Do you have a favorite writing-related quote?
Oh there are many good ones, none of which I remember. Here’s a validating one i found by scrolling through my writing tag from my boi Stephen Sondheim: "Every writer I’ve ever spoken to feels fraudulent in some way or other."
8. If you could assign your story one song, what would it be?
Listen my playlist for #27 is so short and bad!! Why don’t I have more songs? Gah!!! Anyway Shooting Star by Owl City is a rather embarrassing one that’s on there so,,, take that if you will.
9. Where do you get your inspiration from?
Oh man. The inspiration for this particular story came from a 4 am conversation with three other friends about trans-universal travel. We all decided we were gonna write a book about it. I was the only one stupid enough to still be serious about it in the morning.
10. Do you tend to overwrite or underwrite the first draft?
I’m going with Amber on this one—there’s always something you can cut. Amber and I both once had an ethereal goddess of a writing teacher who had us delete 50% of a rough draft “for fun”. As much as it pains me, revision is about slashing and burning and killing your darlings.
Alright, since my two usual tagbacks already did this one, I’m going to go out on a limb here and tag some of the writer people who I’ve been following for a while now but I almost never actually talk to? @the-literary-prince @wordmage-girl @pixiebitch99 @imkerfuffled @distractedbythedictionary ...if you want?(I love you all, please don’t hurt me.)
ALSO MEREDITH. I KNOW YOURE READING THIS. WHEREVER YOU ARE. YOU’RE TAGGED. ASSHOLE.
