I know that this site is totally devoid of nuance but I think we should be allowed to project onto our favourite characters for fun without it being massively over-moralised. You're allowed to believe that a character is gay because you're gay and you think they're cool and that's it.

There is absolutely no need to invoke the trauma of real life LGBT+ people to justify your personal views on fictional media. We gain nothing from making people prove that their own real life experiences line up with character arcs closely enough to be *allowed* to believe that a character is trans or bi or gay because it's all fake!! It's not real!! Believing that a character is bisexual while you identify as bisexual and then deciding that they're also a lesbian when you come out as a lesbian is not some great act of bigotry feeding into a deep system of oppression! It's just fun! It's fun to believe that someone *like you* is going on all these adventures or doing incredible things. Having different headcanons about characters that are literally Not Real is not some deep act of hatred against various communities. As much as representation matters at a media level it does not matter in the slightest that individual underrepresented people who want to see themselves reflected in media have differing ideas and interpretations.
