i havent used tumblr in years, this is my first time posting since who knows how long ago hi... some goofy goober fanarts i did. im trying to pretend im not obsessed with this game and wasnt totally immersed into kanai ward

if you don't mind asking, the people (me) would like to know if you can share the tiktoker that inspired you to make the new rendering style because is so so pretty or if you can't find them if you can give tips on how to render like that, no pressure for neither but I am really loving how it looks literally chewed on both the baxter and cove art fdgfdg

I actually have the tiktok saved just for a frame of ref on how the messy render style would look LMFAO, heres the tiktok that inspired this whole color style and im pretty sure they also make a tutorial on how they do that specific render style

But! I have my own spin on it so heres some tips on helping understanding and achieving this way to render

So for starters i only use the charcoal brush for the entire thing but u can use any texture brush of ur choosing

i treat this coloring style how i treat color pencils or color pastels in real life

Meaning i start sketching with like a more lighter color

Its preferable to like usually sketch with either purple, pinks or reds but i usually sketch with how the vibes are feeling rn or what kinda color i associate the chr with LOL

The after that i just proceed with flats and heres the fun part

With how i shade in general i very much rely on my color wheel

Basically when adjusting colors like lets say i wanna shade i adjust the color wheel to the left and adjust the colors saturation but thats depending on how dark you want your shadows to be, if you want them to be darker just keep adjusting a bit more to the left of ur color wheel and lower the saturation more but not TOO much

Same also kinda applies to adding highlights and the only fee changes is adjusting the color wheel to the right

So rinse and repeat and u get these colors for the base skin

Note that these is just a pallete guide on how to pick colors to shade and highlight the skin but for me usually i keep adjusting the colors anyways to like find a way to blend

Remeber kids! Eye dropper tool is your best friend if you wanna blend colors together

When all goes well the face will look like this

Few notes is that you dont want to get rid of the sketch outline even when overlaying when shading and rendering

It also adds more color and life to it if that makes any sense

Another thing about shading is that you can do hatching and shit, be free of ur strokes! It maintains the sketchy feel of the piece

One last thing to note as well is where the light and shadows could be coming from when rendering

I also need an excuse to share a lesson i had with my professor on my art college LOL

Bringing out the artist ball but these are the 4 main things you need to note

A reflective light can be made by just putting ur color wheel to the opposite side of your color wheel LOL

Understanding this could go a long way trust me

Then after that youre basically done! Again just rinse and repeat with how you pick your colors and you should be good

Anywahs to wrap this up cause im running out of brain power to explain LOL be very loose with this style, its very sketchy but it adds flare to it if that makes sense

HIYA!!!! oh yeeeesh this is gonna be such a long answer 😭😭 it’ll be under the cut…… but um. warning for old Ashi art HAHAHA it’ll basically just be me guiding you through my gallery from all these years <3 I HOPE IT CAN HELP A LITTLE!!!

BUT BASICALLY. YEAH! this is me starting digital art in like? 2020 and getting into a3! <3 as you can see. this is my kind of sad attempt at replicating the style ??? you can tell from the way I colored my eyes, hair, and copied the way the hair is drawn!! it’s not OVERLY obvious but if you look you can see that I REAAALLY referenced it. which is kind of a big thing for creating an artstyle

and queue in my art around a year later!! 🤔 kinda more used to drawing the a3! characters (which mind you were the ONLY characters I drew for like. a whole year) and so naturally I adopted the artstyle more into my own art. learnt more about airbrushes would reference the original art a LOT. redrawing really helped me 🙏 once again. lots of referencing and looking at character references. and while I didn’t always redraw it exactly, looking at the character designs themselves made me pick up quirks of the original artstyle to better display the characterization and charm of the characters!!

then 2022 rolls around and I start getting more into proseka. start finding little things about this artstyle that I liked— whether that be finding that out through redrawing the art or trying to replicate the style. started picking up things like the smaller face shapes (as compared to twst and a3! which I was focused on previously) the way they drew the hands, the bodies, etc etc!! along w softer brushes and rendering 🫶

at around the same time I return back to a3! and make attempts at replicating the artstyle (left) or making edits to the predicting art to try and make it blend in (right). as you can tell I start playing around more w hair highlights and the rendering and all that stuff!!! 🤔 sort of like picking up new skills that I missed out on the first time. starting noticing more of the little details

and SO then I returned yet again and begin redrawing a3! cards!!! but you can tell that there’s more of a concrete style w the squisher faces and more experience the rendering ����🙏

and I did a LOT of redrawing. 😭😭 a3!’s artstyle is soooo dear to me because it has so much charm despite not being insanely rendered or having too much detail. and I LOVE that. so to try and add it to my own art I redraw and redraw and MIMIC in attempts to gain that exact same energy.

🤔 and though it’s not twst art…… this is when I started replacing the twst style and picking up on it’s quirks, then adopting what I thought was fun about it. most notable the varied opacity rendering. and you might notice that my lineart is more see though!! I MUST SAY!!! THAT WAS JUST BECAUSE OF A LITTLE EXPERIMENT I WANTED TO DO and I enjoyed it SO much that I dropped solid lineart sketching IMMEDIATELY!!!!! I think developing an artstyle is really dependent on you being willing to step away from your “art style” and look at others. maybe try some new things. pick up smth else and try to mimic it, and see what ingredients are used to make that artstyle succeed in the way that it does. between these three images you see such a change because behind the scenes I’m trying all of these different things, and seeing if I like doing them!!

🤔 sorta like….. oh I like this ingredient. so I’m gonna take them and add it to my own food because I like it. if that makes sense?

I was wondering the same thing--when i draw, i dont tend to follow any conventional or consistent way of shading,lineart,process, etc, besides including certain elements of my style. My process always changes depending on how fast i want to do something or what i have in mind; although if youre asking for my typical process, heres this little tutorial

And if youre asking for what program i use--I use Ibis paint X. all of my brushes are custom brushes besides the airbrush and lineart brush, which is just the default felt tip pen (soft).

hello! since i get asked about stuff like that relatively often and i'm usually too lazy to answer properly everytime i'll use this ask to answer all of those in one big post :D

Brushes

i don't think i have main brushes? i jump from style to style quite frequently and i love love love trying out new stuff so the set of brushes i'm using for any given drawing can change drastically but there're a few that came to my mind

i've been vibing with the first brush the most lately! it's kinda has spray paint feel to it?? but not really? idk but it's fun to make messy sketches with :D 2nd and 3rd are probably the brushes i find myself coming back to most often bc they're just really basic lol

all of the brushes ^ are default krita brushes bc i dont like downloading brushes from the internet so if you wanna find cool non default krita brushes you'll need to ask sm1 else sorry

(btw my advice: don't care about brushes. limiting oneself to a certain set of brushes can also limit the creativity so don't do that)

Canvas Size

my default canvas size is 2000 x 2000 px and it usually goes up from that if i need other proportions for a piece - basically that means that the shortest side of (almost) any of my drawings is minimum 2000px (2000 x 3000, 2500 x 2000, etc). for pixel art it's the same rules but for minimum of 200px!

social media eats the quality of images really hard so i usually don't see the point of drawing on bigger canvases than that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Art Process

there isn't much to say about the art process for me bc i'm sure my process is not too different from everyone else's process lol for lineart stuff it's the usual:

super messy, super quick sketch

cleaner sketch (depending on the art style and the vibe i'm going for this step can be skipped)

messy colouring (also can be skipped sometimes; this step is just for myself to find the colour palette i wanna use and to determine whether i like the drawing so far or not so i can change the idea or completely abandon the piece)

clean lineart

flat colouring + shading

adding small details, colouring the lineart, making lighting prettier, etc. (this one cannot be properly described bc for me it's usually a mess of tweaking everything and nothing until i like the final product)

for lineless stuff i don't have a process - i put pretty colours on the canvas and just,, Pray for the best or smth lmao

it most likely won’t be helpful but i do have youtube channel where i (once in a blue moon) post speedpaints! they might help in understanding what my art process is

and that's it i think? i hope this was useful at least in some way :D it's not the best idea to ask me about any of art related things bc my approach to art can be summarised with throwing stuff at the wall until smth sticks lmao

Goodness I really love your style,,, if you don't mind me asking or haven't answered already, what is your drawing process like? How do you plan your shapes/colours or does it come to you naturally? It's seriously,, so cool,,, like the main colour is part of the background but I can still comprehend and make out body figures/faces

hmmmmmmmmmm well it depends on the piece really! in general however if i get an idea i do a loose sketch like so:

i knew i wanted to draw tama but i dont like drawing hats, but i didnt want to draw her without the hat because that would mean id have to draw her other eye, which in my brain is a lot of work, so the easiest way to draw her would be to just uhhh use negative space LOL so i used the lasso tool to block out her hair/skin and then inverted the selection, filled with a vaguely textured brush, and then winged it from there.

as you can tell theres Shapes and such that werent present in my initial sketch which is really just a process of me painting over with new layers and trying to decide what looks nice with the least amount of effort. ive said it before but i am legitimately a very lazy artist and try to find shortcuts as much as possible LOL but also i started this off like "no way im not going to draw those transparent forearms/hands!" and then well look what i did. jokes on me

as for colors im very fond of using gradient maps and adjustment layers to make them tie together better or just look more interesting in general.

for example for my friend ryuki i started w/ a monochrome background and tried out a bunch of different gradient maps/blending modes

the bright colors are like fine.. but not quite the vibe i was going for so i duplicated the layer and tried out another gradient map and blending mode

which then i said OK good enough :-)

i have a timelapse here that more or less shows this same process - i had the general idea of what i wanted to do but changed things as i went along. i also did a little post on layer blending modes here

idk if this helps or answers your question at all ? everything i know about art is from trial and error but i do like to share these things in case it can help others or give them ideas :~)

Hello! I just found your blog and I've just fallen in love w/ur art! I've always wanted to have a more paint/textured digital style but I feel like I'm too nervous to experiment with brushes/color. Do you have any tips? Also unsure if this has been asked before but how long does a piece usually take? And do you have and tutorials/artists you recommend!

Thank you so much <3 Sorry for a late answer but I didnt want to rush answering these questions. It got a little bit long and do keep in mind all of these are my opinions and things I figured out on my own so here you go

I'd say my number one tip for painting is to stop blending so much. When I started painting I wanted everything to be blended as much as possible but I find those sharp edges of colors to be way more interesting to look at and help the eye distinguish elements quicker.

If I want a softer transition of colors I will put them next to each other and blend them so I can get the color between them, then paint over the blended portion with that color, try to not make it just a line after line of colors tho

Here you can see the light parts are just a line of darker and darker colors (still I tried to vary the shape a little bit) but the shading on the chest is more varied and I use not only the transitional colors but change the hue a little bit as well so its more interesting to look at. My rule of thumb for the amount of colors I use for transitions is that I think if it's a hard or a soft shadow, if the light is a very contrasting color, you can make bigger jumps between colors and then as you aproach the darkest parts let the hue and lightness change happen slower.

.Also I use a lot and I mean A LOT of blending modes, if it's hard for you to change the hue very suddenly when painting, just paint the thing like it would be in a very soft netural lighting and then throw a bunch of colors and blending modes at it until you like it. I like to go over parts of my paintings with just a random assortments of shapes and colors that look somewhat plesant together and see how it looks with different blending modes, if I like something I will copy the original layer, merge it with the blending layer and do that a couple of times until I like the results. It's hard to explain how to do that properly tho, it's just something I learned how to use effectively by using it contantly.

Also this back and forth of changing things make my painting process a little bit slow, I'd say on avarage it takes me something like 6h to finish one art piece. It very much depends on the flow I have so I try not to get too attached to any piece of painting or colors etc so I dont feel bad when I go back and change things later.

I dont really use tutorials, my brain is very bad at learning by listening or reading, one exception being tb skyen's legends of runterra card reviews videos I know it's weird I dont even like lol and theyre very long but theres a lot of really good art there and him showing how composition works in them really helped me. I also try to collect art I like in my twitter likes and when I start a new piece I will go through them and see what elements inspire me, what painting techniques or color combos are interesting etc. Theres also a bunch of artstation accounts I look at when looking for inpiration, some of them being Aleksander Rostov, Ismail Inceoglu, Julia Zhuravleva and Dominik Mayer

i think anyone can draw, just like how anyone can sing or dance or write, the biggest barrier preventing some people from trying is the concept of standards i think. why bother drawing if the end product is not "good" enough? but you should draw because you want to, even if the end product isnt exactly how you pictured, because you'll always make progress and grow with every line you draw, and you'll find joy in the process of self-expression and creation rather than just the pursuit of an unquantifiable category of "good." like that discussion in art spheres on the internet abt learning to separate your view of your art from validation online, so you dont hinge your happiness and satisfaction with drawing on notes? kinda similar to that :)

my main advice is to draw a lot. the reason i draw so fast and develop my style so much over time is because ive been drawing nonstop since i was a kid, and since ive been lucky enough to have a lot of free-time to spend on drawing, so i'm constantly developing the muscle memory for it. like just look at how my art has changed since march/april of this year (when i first started trying out csp!) it also depends on what you focus on, for instance ive spent so much time focusing on stylized body proportions and human figures, and so little on backgrounds and perspective, that i dont quite have a handle on those as much, so i almost "feel" like i have not progressed as much as an artist, but thats not true because progress isnt linear, its more like a video game skill tree in my opinion :) all i have to do is look up tutorials, trace stuff for practice, ect. and i will develop the skills for whatever i put my mind into learning.

last bit of advice... get clip studio paint if you want to draw digitally and want a really good art program to work with. its cheap (one time payment for pc), it has many many options and tutorials and guides out there, and assets has so many brushes you can download and play around with till u find your favorites. its a little overwhelming at the start, but i eventually got the hang of it and i am happy to share any tips abt it that i've learned :) make a folder or a pinterest board or whatever else to save art tutorials, art inspiration, design inspiration, pose inspiration, its very handy to inspire me when i want to try a new direction or just want to remember something for the future. and also be sure to get in the habit of stretching your wrists and hands (i use this guide for it)

• You told him as much one day, while you were lounging in an armchair across from him and watching as he worked

• The look he'd given you

• It was like someone had stolen every star in the night sky and slipped them all within the eyes of the man you love

• His smile was like the moon, waxing and waning in accordance to your shared light and you both l o v e d it.

• He'd confessed something to you then, something you hadn't ever thought about but made so much sense in the context of V, of Jihyun --

i sometimes send wips of the commissions and possibly stream while i work to both help me focus and also to make sure things are looking alright with your commission; if you have any issues with this, please tell me !!

i will send a watermarked and unwatermarked version of your commission (excluding icons).  ONLY POST THE WATERMARKED VERSION IF YOU PLAN ON REPOSTING IT–this is to prevent illegal usage and theft !!

BUST DETAILS:

sketches, flats, or full color

sizes vary but i try to keep them in the ~600x700 px - ~1000x1200 px range depending on the character

*pls note that the brush i use for sketches changes almost daily so try to keep that in mind !!*

CHARA DOLL DETAILS:

400x400 px

transparent bgs

flat colors only; no shading

multiple characters are allowed; they’ll be +$15 per character

characters will be simplified !!  if your character has details you want me to include, you must specify so i wont exclude them from simplification !!

mechas/armored characters (UNLESS the armor/tech is simple and cartoony, like skulker or fright knight) ((also exceptions for icons)) (((I’LL TRY to have exceptions for overwatch characters b/c i rly love overwatch)))

shippy stuff (i wont even front, im not much of a ship artist and im honestly not super comfy drawin ship art anyway so)

please ask me if youre unsure whether or not your character fits any of these !!

HOW TO ORDER:

send me an IM (preferred), ask, skype message (if we’re contacts), or dA note to reserve a slot

once you have a slot, i will send you a link to a form you need to fill out with all your details

once you’ve filled out the form, you’ll be in my queue !!

i will then send an invoice asking for payment (i dont require you to pay immediately, but i WILL NOT start your commission until i receive payment !!  i allow one month for payment but if you can’t pay by then i’ll assume you no longer want the commission and your slot will be reopened)
