Deuce: Where is that coming from?!
Ace: It's on the radio, dude
Deuce: Who the hell thought putting sirens on the radio was a good idea?
Ace: It's a police ad so...the government, I guess
Deuce: Fuck the government! You hear that Google! Fuck the government!
Ace: You're about to get some really weird porn
Deuce: Wait! Google don't!

I have a challenge for you, one that I think you can pull off. Fallout 4 Companions react to the SS struggling to use Kellog's revolver to put Shaun out of his misery before the Institute explodes. Bonus points for being really sad. Kick me in the feels.
The Institute is chaos. Lights flash, distorting the architecture, throwing shadows into harsh and threatening shapes. Screams echo down the halls, the cries of the wounded, the dying, the damned. Gunshots pop in their ears, adding to the commotion that threatens to overwhelm them.
They flick on the radio, and Travis's familiar voice helps to cut through the general din. Carefully, they peel away from the battle, picking their way through the Institute, seeking out the terminal that will let them turn on the evacuation order. The apocalypse may be descending for the second time, but just as they were spared by the Institute, so, too, will they spare the Institute from total annihilation.
The stairwells are quieter, and the chaos falls away below them as they climb. The song rings out a little clearer along the flat, shining walls, and they sing along with Skeeter Davis, hoping to calm their nerves. Their heart races in their chest, and while they'd hoped separation from the battle would help, it doesn't seem to be doing much, yet. They take a deep breath between verses, steeling themself against their own actions.
The terminal is open. They punch in the appropriate keys to order the evacuation, hear a siren cut through the air below them.
"Why do the birds go on singing?"
They jump at the sound of a voice above them, eyes flicking up to the mezzanine.
"Why do the stars glow above?"
They know that voice. They know it all too well. Hesitantly, they sing back, "Don't they know it's the end of the world?"
Their son finishes the verse. "It ended when I lost your love."
They ascend the stairs at lightning speed. Sure enough, there he is, hands clasped over his chest. Quietly, they whisper, "Shaun?"
"Hello," he says. "I admit, I wasn't expecting to see you."
"What are you doing here? I just gave the order to evacuate, this whole place is about to blow."
"I know, I know." He waves a hand through the air. "Smart, I admit, using the reactor like that. We never saw it coming."
He meets their eyes and says, "I never saw it coming."
They look into his eyes, into the eyes of their son, their little boy, and they whisper, "I'm sorry."
"I suppose it couldn't be helped. We took too long to make contact. Your mind was made up long before I spoke a word to you. You had plans in motion before you even knew it was me."
"You can still escape," they say, taking his hand. "The teleportation grid is still up. You could be gone and no one would be the wiser."
He shakes his head slowly, sadly. "Look at me. I'm in no condition to relay. The strain it would put on my body would instantly kill me." He shakes his head again. "No, like all good captains, I go down with the ship."
They grip his hand tighter, tears pricking their eyes. "It doesn't have to end like this."
"I'm afraid it does."
They press their forehead to the back of his hand, shoulders shaking with the weight of repressed sobs. He reaches over to cover their hand with his. His skin is soft.
"I have one more favor to ask you."
They look up at him. He is smiling. "Anything for my boy."
"I'm glad to hear that." His eyes flick to the gun at their belt. "A death at the hands of the reactor blast will be quick, painless, but cold. I'd much rather die here with you."
Their heart stops. "Shaun-"
"I'm sick," he says softly. "Everything hurts. Won't you spare me a few moments of that pain?"
"I- Shaun, I can't."
"You're the only one I could ask this of."
They choke on a sob, tears running down their face. Their voice breaks as they whisper. "But I just got you back."
He wipes away a tear. "This is a cruel world we live in. It takes everything from you when you least expect it. You ought to know that by now."
They do. They've fought so hard to get here, to their little boy, only to have him snatched by something just outside their reach once again.
"Please," he whispers.
Their heart shatters, and their hand falls to the gun on their belt.
"This is Kellog's pistol," they murmur to him. "I took it from him when I killed him. This is the gun that took everything from me, all those years ago. I took it as some sort of, I don't know, revenge on him, to force him to help me get back some of what he stole."
A smile graces their son's lips. "What a cruel twist of fate."
Their fingers shake as they curl around the grip. "Cruel, indeed."
Shaun closes his eyes as they draw the pistol. They smooth a piece of hair back from his forehead and slowly begin to sing their son one last lullaby, voice soft and slow, just like when he was a baby.
"Why does my heart go on beating?"
They flick off the safety.
"Why do these eyes of mine cry?"
They aim.
"Don't they know it's the end of the world?"
They close their eyes a moment, calling up every memory of their son that they have, every giggle, every smile.
"It ended when you said-"
They squeeze the trigger.
"Goodbye."
