just finished moby-dick for the first time and ended up reading the last few chapters aloud, the language is so fluid. honestly i think you could get a lot of good monologues out of this. here are some of my favorites for this purpose:

Jimin - Muse (2024)

I thought it'd get me several days to come back here with some thoughts on Muse, but it proved it's not necessary.

Who as title track makes complete sense. We're still into 90s nostalgia, but it's a recipe that works. Not just in kpop, but pop in general. Looking at the charts, it paints a pretty clear picture for the last couple of years. Add the zoomer idea of a what a Y2K aesthetic is like and we get the recipe for today's music and concept. Repeat, reuse, recycle. How fitting for postmodernism.

Who is a really catchy tune, with lyrics easy to remember and sing out loud. A tad more commercial-sounding than Like Crazy, but that's Muse overall anyway. The truth is, I have the song on loop (streamers can't come for me, lol). I think Jimin's style of singing and the melody itself are a good fit. Lyric wise, it's sort of basic, but this is pop music made for mass consumption. I don't mind it. It's also radio friendly and definitely has the potential for summer hit, but I'm 99% sure it won't turn into one. BH won't move a finger to send it to radio and it's another song that will fall victim to fandom mass streaming to chart high for one week. I've seen this all before.

It's also a shame to have this released when an artist is away, without being able to properly promote it. In my non-expert opinion, it could have been released as a single a few months later after Face and scratch the rest of Muse or keep it in the drafts.

As to the other songs, perhaps Rebirth (Intro) is the only other song on the album that has something to it, it stands out a bit more and it also bridges the two albums, despite the connection being sort of flimsy.

Having Sofia Carson on Slow Dance had brought nothing to the song. It could have been a full Jimin track all the way. Her style of singing does not stand out and I find it a failed pair because there's no contrast or voices complementing each other. Jimin can sing just like her. If a collab is really wanted/needed/necessary, then I'd wish for a pairing that also makes sense vocal-wise.

Be Mine is ok, but it sounds too much like that one TXT song and I simply can't get over past it. It's afro beat and latino influence which has been all the rage in the past few years, which Hybe has been pushing a lot. It explains the song.

SGMB and Closer Than This were previously released and I'm not covering them again.

I think it's difficult for me to not make comparisons to Face, considering both albums were produced around the same period, without much time left in between them. One is simply more cohesive and has a depth that showcases a first solo attempt, while the other one is clearly going a more commercial route with less of a personal signature.

Despite Muse being promoted as another conceptual album, I find that umbrella to be a bit forced given that the theme of finding love is really a generic one. Perhaps way too generic with not much individuality. Does it show Jimin's vocal range? Yes. Does it show him trying various genres? Yes. In this case, perhaps Muse is a bit similar to Golden in some aspects, with the difference that Jimin gets producing and writing credits in 5/6 songs. So his involvement is greater, but the scope of the album is in the same category as Golden, which is another production that had this LOVE as an overarching theme. But without much more to it that would make it stand out lyrically. The focus on both is genre diversity and vocal capability.

In short: I like Who (I also like Ace of Base songs and all those silly 90s pop songs, so my music taste is most likely considered bad, but I don't care). I think Muse overall is an amalgam of whatever is trendy at the moment, without being able to truly stand out and say more about Jimin, apart from his capabilities as idol/performer. Perhaps that was the point too.

P.S. My inbox has been closed for anonymous asks since I reblogged a few days ago my post about using lyrics as clues for personal life. It seems that it invited homophobia and I won't have that here.

I'm keeping it that way for now because I'm sure my personal "review" on Muse will either be seen as an invitation for people to either bash me for not thinking it's the album of the year or to be seen as an opportunity for others to talk shit about Jimin, Who and the album overall. I found that usually there is no middle ground with kpop stans/army/Jimin stans, etc.

So, I don't know if you have ever heard of Buzzfeed Unsolved or their new show Ghost files on Youtube. But a few nights ago after I turned off Ghost files and thought you know I am sorta in a mood for my fav time travels boys! So I put on BTTF 3, and soon after I fell asleep dreaming of Time travel, DeLorean's, spooky ghosts, etc. That night I had one of the greatest dreams I have had this year...hang on now I know what you are thinking time travel?? Ghost hunting?? What does that have to do with your dream? Well my creative mind came up with Marty Mcfly and Dave Mcfly special guest Doc as ghost hunters. Kid you not the funniest shit ever. All I ask is what would you think if Marty and Dave and Doc went Ghost hunting, I feel like Marty would say oh I would square up with that ghost and then shit his pants if he sees his shadow. But what are your thoughts?? Ghost Hunting Mcfly’s?

I havent seen Ghost Files, but follow a few people who frequently post about it. That's so funny. I love when media works it's way into your brain to form a superbly strange dream. I have had many weird BTTF related dreams since starting this blog lol.

Dave and Marty (with special guest star: Doc) hunting ghosts, huh? That's certainly quite the thing to imagine. I agree with your headcanon on how Marty would react. I think he'd try out the whole tough guy act like: "Ghosts? Psshh, I dont believe in them. I'm not afraid. Not one bit. Ghosts...yeah, right. Bring it on." *very obviously nervous laughter* But then he'd step on a creaky floorboard or something and scream and do a leap into Dave or Doc's arms. I'm also imagining a scene where Marty, holding a shaking flashlight in his hands, asks, "Do you guys hear that heavy breathing?" To which Dave rolls his eyes and goes, "That's YOU, Marty."

Dave, I think, would probably be more brave than Marty. Whether or not he actually believes in ghosts, I'm not sure, but either way I think he'd have fun being scared. And more than that, he'd have fun scaring the daylights out of his younger brother. Dave would absolutely do things like sneakily tap Marty on the shoulder and then act all casual or quickly knock something off a shelf when no one was looking.

Doc could go one of two ways, and I'm not entirely sure which one to choose. On the one hand, I think he'd likely go the scientific route and try to explain away any strange happenings. Explain how the human mind can play elaborate tricks on you, especially when you're already anxious, or provide his own theories for things. "Oh, that was the house's heating system kicking on," or, "That thing fell of that dresser because the floorboards are warped, making the furniture lean. There is also a draft from that open window. Additionally, our footsteps are causing small vibrations. All those factors combined make it perfectly clear what happened. Marty, let go of my arm; you're cutting off my circulation."

But on the OTHER HAND, I'm recalling the end of BTTF part II when Marty comes running down the street and Doc loses his whole entire mind at seeing him again. I've heard some people claim that after his initial scream of terror, Doc appears to mumble, "A ghost!" as Marty is yelling for him to get a grip, but it doesn't come up in the closed captions. Whatever the case, Doc is in panic mode. And then at the beginning of III, when he sees Marty in the mansion, he goes straight to screaming and looking like he's the victim in a horror movie. Doc is a scientist, but he's also Very Easily Panicked. So I wouldn't put it past Doc at all to go in with a logical approach and then have it all fly out the window the second something unexpected happens.

So there you have it. SIDE NOTE: This ask has caused me to imagine a Scooby-Doo style ghost hunt, featuring a scene of Doc, Marty, and Dave running up and down halls and in and out of various rooms while a monster chases them and Benny Hill music plays. It would be a masterpiece. Please just picture it.

Welcome to one of my favorite fics ever!!! I made this drawing after finishing reading it for the first time and it's been in my drafts, waiting to be posted forever. Regency era Taeil the loml!!!!!! Of course it's not perfect, but it's here, I finally have the courage to share it and it's for mads!!!! thank you queen mads. Review of the fic is down below 💗

Ah I really don't even know where to start. I love everything about this fic. From Sicheng and mc's bond and friendship, to how well is portrayed the image of the nosy sister and the mother, to the letters (the letters!!!!!!!!!), to the dialogues and the characteristic forms of the time, so well placed, I love all that.

Mads, the way you make it possible to picture each setting in which the story takes place, the old mansions, the sunsets, the wheat fields gently caressing the skin and the skirts, all the childhood memories, even the rain!! everything is so beautiful to imagine! I've said it before, but mads, you have such a good way with words and a talent to build worlds and it amazes me every time.

And what can I say about Taeil 🥺 he just sounds like the man of my dreams LOL

His smile is still as bright as it always was; a warm smile, both welcoming and genuine; it’s a smile that makes you wish you had sent that letter out years ago.

MAMA I LOVE HIM!!!!

You slip your arm through Taeil’s and marvel at the familiarity. Though it’s been years since your last exchange of letters, and even longer since you last saw each other in person, the ease with which you slip back into old comforts in his presence is nothing short of remarkable.

AAAHHH there is it again. That characteristic way you describe him. Taeil is comfort and is calmness and is so easy to be at ease with him!!! And I like how realistic the conflict inside mc's mind is.  Yes, it's easy to return to the comfort of Taeil's presence, but it's not easy to let go of Sicheng's good company and friendship just like that. When Taeil asks mc if there's potential of loving Sicheng—ah, it breaks my heart. But he shows a lot of maturity around the matter and I enjoy that a lot. Sicheng too, actually. Absolutely all the characters are written in such a good way!!!

BUT my absolute favorite scene is the one that follows right after Sicheng's proposal and mc's response 😢😢😢😢 When mc's hit with realization and runs away looking for Taeil 😢😢😢😢 finds him near the tree where they engraved and made their promise before he left 😭😭😭😭😭 it's the scene that inspired the drawing. MY. ABSOLUTE . FAVORITE SCENE!!!

AND THIS PART:

"Taeil," you being again, steadying your hands at your side, "how could I marry him when I'm still in love with you?"

The dawn of realisation breaks over his face--clearing away the storm clouds that had been brewing behind his eyes--and his mouth falls open in silent shock."

AAAAAAAAAHHHH 😭😭😭😭😭😭 truly makes me tear up every time I read it 😭😭😭😭 It's the perfect confession and the perfect ending. So so lovely and cute!!!

And of course we couldn't forget about Taeil and his typical comments that tend to ruin the atmosphere but don't, and are funny only because he makes them. His character is so well portrayed as always. No matter what au you put him in, his essence and his charms remain there!!

Mads this is such a beautiful story 🥲 Thank you for writing it and for inspiring this drawing. It brought back joy into my life when I was feeling very unmotivated and conflicted, so this story is very important to me!!

The long, warm rays of the sun stretch over the fields of your childhood as you sit on the stone fence at the edge of your family’s estate, legs swinging in a manner unbefitting a young woman soon to be engaged. A gentle spring breeze stirs as your hair, blowing over you as it moves westward across the countryside on its journey and you sit, book in hand, wrapped in the warmth of it. Words dance on the page before your eyes as you try and focus on the story, pulling your attention into the narrative only to have it drawn back out towards the horizon over the golden fields of wheat and rye. With a sigh, you snap the book shut and slip from atop the rock wall, landing in the soft earth below. 

Skirts dragging against the long grass as you walk, you make your way through the field–wheat stalks brush against your bare arms, parting for you as you stride forward past the cows and sheep and towards and old grove of trees by the meandering creek where you spent so many of your days in childlike rapture and leisure. Amongst the flurry of balls, social gatherings, and visits expected of you now you have hardly had time to come and sit among the trees over these past few years. Social propriety and demands have all but replaced the imagination of your youth and yet the trees welcome you in as an old friend–beckoning you forth into their shade and kissing your cheeks with the morning dew.
