I finished Unicorn Overlord! \o/

Kinda did it last weekend but I needed a moment to digest how amazing that game was! I ate well and I talked my friends' ears off about it xD; and I still need to talk about it! What an unexpected gem! Maybe because I went into it without any expectations and stayed away from any fandom interactions, or because the gameplay hit some sweet spot of being free roam type to not feel overbearing but the war battles being tactical enough to give me a challenge which I could adjust accordingly.

I did all the content post final fight and I have mad respect for games who do this kind of thing - you finished the game? Here are some goodies, have fun! Does it make sense? Nah but who cares! I only wish we had some kinda DLC post game cause I want to juggle the new beans and have fun with them too!!

I don't want to write a whole review here so I'll keep it super brief and spoiler free (as far as I know everyone knows the recruitables' names?)

It's hard to pick favorites, cause there were so many and I don't think there was a single character I didn't like.

While the story was simple, I really enjoyed how they handled the mind control magic. I loved the Zenoira backstory and all around, I think I really vibed with the simplicity of the plot. It was very very charming. My weakness being sibling dynamics I nearly bit my switch because of Travis and Berengaria's rapports and their story moments. And no surprise to any, I'm big softy who loves redeemable villains but I didn't expect to like Gammel and Mandarin as much as I did.

Did I mention how much I loved the digging mini game? This thing was way too addicting.

Did I mention I've been blasting the OST all week?

Did I mention I shake fist a the sky that I couldn't obtain the artbook? Anyone out there willing to sell theirs? qq asking for a friend. I'm the friend.

This game fed me well... so well...

Ooh I love thinking about this! I do think Gale assumed he and Katniss would end up together because I think pre-district 13 he assumed they would eventually have to do what everyone else in the Seam did: settle down and slog through the last few years of their lives, have some kids, continue the mild resistance of hunting and talking shit about the capitol in the forest. I think he definitely would have preferred a future with Katniss to anyone else he knew.

I don't really understand the question about support because after the 74th games, Katniss and Peeta weren't talking anymore, there wasn't much to support. And after the QQ, I think Gale knew that Katniss' love for Peeta was real or at least that she would choose him (basing that on Gale and Katniss' kiss in the kitchen when he told her he knew she'd kiss him because he was in pain). I do think he was sort of an ass to her about Peeta while they were in 13 and a bit after the QQ reaping but that also made sense to me for his character. It would have been nice if Gale immediately accepted that Katniss wanted Peeta and had been more supportive but even Katniss hadn't accepted her feelings for Peeta and since Gale believed he and Katniss would be a perfect team, it makes sense that he took advantage of her romantic reluctance to try to win her over.

I don't think Gale would have been friends with Peeta or would have paid him much attention in 12 pre-74 because he was very acutely aware of the class imbalance within 12 and likely saw the merchants as a step or two above capitol citizens. I think this changed for him when the rebellion became more likely and then again when the revolution began because he was able to see that all districts needed to unite entirely, his "us vs them" mentality became more nuanced. But even still, he always seemed more disdainful of wealthy people than Katniss ever was (her genuine sympathy for her prep team, their interaction with Madge before the first reaping, etc). So even without Katniss, I think Gale's mistrust of anyone he sees as wealthier or more privileged within Panem's system would have kept him and Peeta apart.

Now Peeta probably assumed Katniss and Gale were actively dating/ had some kind of deep relationship. Peeta is incredibly attentive and would notice the squirrel Katniss and Gale sold his father, would have seen them in the Hob, etc. My HC is that Gale is the biggest reason Peeta felt he had no chance with Katniss pre-74 (aside from his somewhat low self esteem which also didn't help). I don't think Peeta would have told anyone about his feelings for Katniss. I wish that the fanon interpretation of his cool brothers was canon bc I would have loved if he could have talked to them about his crush but in CF, he lives alone and it doesn't seem like he sees his family very often or that he feels torn up about not seeing them often so I don't think he would have been close enough to anyone to share his feelings for Katniss. Some people at school probably noticed for sure (Delly seems keen!) but for the most part I don't think many people knew how Peeta felt until his interview.

I think Gale and Peeta were only able to form a relationship of mutual respect (basically tolerance lol) because of Katniss, because Peeta respected that Gale had saved Katniss' life every week in 12 and Peeta had saved Katniss' life in the games. Without her, I don't think they would have even acknowledged each other unless they were trading meat for bread.

What is their relationship?

Like they are not friends nor enemies. They don't hate eachother. They are not gonna gossip about each other. Or be assholes blaming eachother. ( like causing trouble) or fight. ( maybe Gale knows his ass would get kicked by Peeta who wrestles)

But do I see them getting together for drinks not really. ( but kinda think that would be hilarious I have this picture in my head of Peeta going to the bar after an argument with Katniss over something stupid and Gale there. And he says something along the line yeah try hunting with her for years and they share this bond) sorry totally off topic.

So when Gale enters the Same room as Peeta you expect some shit to go down. With some music. But then it's like I tolerate you.

Sorry for ranting on I may make a post just about this later.

Now with all said. Gale is Katniss's best friend. She basically came back with a new man. And Gale was all Jealous.

As for Peeta he is the Bakers boy. And has had a crush on Katniss forever.
