The thing about Khonshu

Part 6 of the Murder Bird series

Gender neutral reader

Again, no actual appearance of Khonshu. His return will depend on the show since I'm basically following it.

After sending Steven up to find another exit from this creepy room, you and Layla find yourselves in a bit of trouble. Steven serves as a distraction, Layla helping him out, before you all make a run for it. You follow Layla, knowing you'll find Steven again later.

You look across the large gap and begin to feel sweat forming. As a test, Layla lights a flare and drops it.

It goes way down.

"We'll have to Indiana Jones it," you say.

"What?" She looks at you confused.

You point to the small, not so strong looking, ledge protruding from the wall. They're the only way across here.

"Shit," she mutters.

"Want me to go first?" You ask her.

"You don't have to," she says, suddenly concerned about the daring attitude you're showing.

"I'll be fine. Follow my step."

You press against the wall and step out onto the first ledge. Layla feels her breath catch in her throat as you leave the safety of the ground she was on. You now stand dangerously high up with very little support.

"Be careful," she says, as she watches.

You use the wall to your advantage and take small steps over to the next ledge. You reach your leg over and step on it, grabbing the wall over it. You hug the stone as you make it to the next ledge.

Layla feels her heart drop as she follows you, taking her first step onto the first ledge.

The third ledge isn't very stable under your feet. You're quick to make it to the other side. You turn and watch Layla.

"Careful."

She nods and tries to do what you do, but she hears a noise. She turns to see what's there and sees a hand. She screams and take a leap. The ledge crumbles. You reach out for her hand. She catch her and pull her toward you. As you fall back, something grabs Layla and pulls her into a dark crevice on the wall.

"Layla!!"

You hear her screams, and some strange noises. Layla tumbles backward onto her back with an arm. She throws it and the thing jumps out. You scream, startled, and kick at it.

Layla is able to throw it over the edge. You're quick to kneel down and wrap your arms around her. She screams, agitated.

"I've got you."

She clings to you, needing something familiar to hold onto. You pull her back from the edge and get her to her feet.

Layla focuses on something behind you. You turn around and follow her gaze.

Arthur stands on the other side.

"What do you want?" You ask, not in the mood to deal with this asshole.

He looks at Layla. He taunts her. You stand by and listen as he talks about her father. About the mercenaries that killed him. About Marc.

You feel rage fill you.

"Stop it."

He turns his eyes to you.

"I know things about you too," he says.

You narrow your eyes at him. "I don't care. Shit up and leave us alone."

"I can't do that."

You go to turn your back on him, but what he says next has you stop from going anywhere.

"Did you see him?" He asks.

You turn back to him.

"What?"

"Khonshu. Did you see him?"

"How could you-?"

"Don't listen to him," Layla says, standing in front of you. You look at her.

"But he-"

She shakes her head.

"I know you," Arthur says, his voice reaching out to you from behind Layla. "You don't remember, do you?"

You want to ask him what he means, but Layla takes your hand and glares at Arthur before dragging you out of the room.

You fall silent as you leave.

What does he know? What is it you don't remember?

What is going on?

Arthur sighs as he stares at where you stood before. It has been a while since he last saw you. He knows that you couldn't see Khonshu, but did. He also knows that you don't remember him.

Why would you?

Khonshu was protecting you. Even now.
