Insult your head closer instead of give a raise? Yeah, sure, there's no way that'll backfire.

In the late 90's I worked at a Subway restaurant; specifically closing shift. That'll be relevant later. At the time I was paid somewhere between 7 and 8 bucks an hour, a good chunk more than minimum wage, and had me bringing my A game every day. I knew it was "just fast food", but I took pride in my work. I showed up early, always covered when people called in, followed the recipes (even the really anal stuff like two slices of black olive per 6" sub unless the customer specifically requests more, etc.) By all accounts, I was a model employee. Plus since I worked alone I was the de facto shift supervisor. That's gotta be worth something. I figured I'd ask the regional manager for a raise. (Store manager didn't have the authority.) The worst he can do is say no, right?

Wrong.

Turns out the worst he can do is insult me and everyone else that works there. He was in one day and I made my pitch. He just went off on me, raising his voice shy of a full yell and saying something like "If you were worth more, you wouldn't be working here. You're replaceable, now go away and don't ever speak to me again. I'm the regional manager, and I'm actually important, you just make sandwiches and scrub toilets." Again, not the exact words, but he did make those points quite clearly. I remember being shocked into silence at such a cartoonish display of arrogance coming out of a balding middle-aged man. First time I'd ever encountered a .50 caliber douchebag. I didn't even specify an amount, I just asked for a raise. He could've given me a nickel, or even made something up like "I'm sorry wages are set by corporate, I can't do it" and while I'd have been disappointed I'd have accepted it. But no, his response to the very concept of any raise was a pretentious, self-righteous indictment against the value of every Subway employee that wasn't management. Or probably him specifically. I'd genuinely enjoyed working there, right up until that watershed moment.

OK Cheese-Dick, if that's how you want it, fine. I'll get mine, one way or another. I take pride in my work, but 7-something an hour isn't enough to engender any further loyalty after you so flippantly insulted me and everyone working for you.

Up until that point I had been meticulous about everything I did at work. Like I mentioned earlier closing shift was a one-man show, which meant I had no supervision. My effectiveness was judged based on the accuracy of my inventory numbers, counting my till, my clock-out times, and whether everything was in order when the openers arrived in the morning. I knew a few tricks to offset inventory, which allowed me to take home food without it being noticed. (Ring up a small soda as a cheese round since they were both 89 cents, etc.) On a good night I'd take home a dozen or more footlong subs. On a bad night, I'd just make sandwiches with the loaf of bread I brought from home. I'd also bring in a bunch of empty bottles or jugs, and fill them from the fountain after clocking out. I'd dump entire cambros full of meat, veggies and cheese into a bag to take home. Sometimes I'd bake an oven full of cookies with the express purpose of taking them, if I could do so without using up the rest of a box. (Because a box with one raw cookie was counted the same as an unopened box.)

The moment he made it clear what I was worth to him, I started looking for a different job. If he'd given me a token 3% cost of living increase, it'd have amounted to maybe 25 cents per hour. They had me working around 30-35 hours a week, just below "full time", so it would've amounted to under 9 bucks a week. Hell, he could've even offered a sincere apology and no raise and I would've kept on with it.  Instead for the last few months I worked there, every single night I took home what probably amounted to a couple hundred dollars worth of potential sales. Every. Single. Night.

At the time my friends and I, being late teens/early 20's, were still in the party phase of our lives. So every night I worked for those last months I'd roll up just as the party was getting wild, with a bunch of sandwiches, cookies, gallons of soda, etc. Those few months doing the bare minimum and sponging off that dead-end job were way more satisfying than giving my all for 7 and change for an insufferable bag of septic slop.

Warnings: FLUFF OH MY LORD THIS IS SOFT, George injury, Swearing, so many commas IDK how to write, slight Angelina x Fred if you squint, I think that’s it!

“You did not convince Mcgonagall to do a prank with you, that’s a straight up lie” Oliver said, crossing his arms in disbelief.

“Its true! She made me promise never to tell, I swear it’s my deepest darkest secret! It would have never worked without her help” Fred said dramatically, making the group laugh.

You and the Gryffindor quidditch team where currently in an enchanted tent on the pitch. It was nearing the end of the semester, and since you were all really close, you decided to spend the night on the pitch to spend some time together. (With Madam Hooch’s permission of course)

“Anyway moving on!” Angelina said loud enough to get everyone's attention. “George, truth or dare”

Now truth or dare with the quidditch team was brutal. The truths were intense, the dares were near impossible, and if you couldn’t complete either, you had to confess a secret about yourself (Fred's being that his ‘best prank’ was actually executed by a professor).

“Dare” He said with a grin.

“All you’ve done are dares!” You complained, making some of the other team mates laugh.

Secretly you were wanting him to choose truth so you could discover if he has a crush on anybody. More specifically you. You have had a crush on the younger Weasley twin for some time now, and it seemed that no matter how many hints you gave, he never seemed to get the hint, only ever treating you as a friend.

Angelina was aware of this, and tried to think of a dare risky enough to make him cave and confess a secret.

“I dare you, to do a backflip on your broom” She said, a grin spread across her face.

“That’s it?” He asked.

“I’m not finished” She replied, causing the other team members to look at each other nervously. “I dare you to do a backflip on your broom, blindfolded”

You glared at her. She was basically saying confess or break your neck, and as much as you wanted to know if George liked you, you weren’t willing to risk him getting hurt. You opened your mouth to protest, but George beat you to it.

“Fine” He said, standing to leave the tent, broom in hand. Angelina's face fell, not expecting to actually agree and you quickly stood to follow him.

“George its a stupid dare, come on we can figure something else out” You practically pleaded, walking alongside the boy.

“What, worried about me Y/L/N?” George responded in a joking tone.

“Yes! I mean, yeah” You shouted before correcting your voice, causing George to laugh.

“It’ll be fine, I have my lucky charm with me” He said smiling at you, causing you to blush a bit.

You reached the middle of the pitch and stopped. You along with the rest of the group stood in a line, watching as George mounted his broom before using his tie to cover his eyes. 

“Absolutely brilliant idea Ange” You heard Fred say from beside you, causing you to turn and glare. “What? He’ll be fine, and then you can give him a congratulatory kiss, and maybe a little extr-” You punched his arm, swiftly shutting him up before he rubbed the spot you struck.

“Ouch! Yeesh I’m just teasing, or am I?” He asked smirking

You shook your head and turned your attention to the other red head, your heart pounding in your chest as he took a deep breath and set off on his broom. He started getting higher, going almost vertically before completing the flip, leaving plenty of space between him and the ground. Cheers rang out through the group.

“Absolutely brilliant!” Fred shouted, you cheering and clapping as well.

“Well done George!” You shouted, noticing he was still moving forward a bit fast. “Do you think he-”

You watched as Georges arms flew up in victory, taking off the blindfold just in time to watch as he ran into the middle quidditch goal, knocking him off his broom and sending him to the ground. He wasn’t too far off the ground at this point, but it still looked rough.

“George!” You yelled, sprinting to the other side of the pitch, Fred and Angelina following close behind you.

You ran up to the boy who was now sprawled out on the ground, kneeling beside him to look him over, only to be met with the sound of laughter.

“George what the fuck, you had me worried sick!” You yelled pushing his shoulder, only causing him to laugh harder.

“I’m sorry, but that was wicked” George laughed

“Wicked indeed brother” Fred congratulated as he got closer, reaching out his hand to help George stand.

You quickly stood and watched George got his footing, noticing how he flinched at the action, Fred and Angelina taking notice as well. You opened your mouth to ask if he was ok, but Fred spoke first.

“Say George, you do look a little worse for wear, maybe you should take it easy” He said in a worried tone, slinging an arm around his shoulder.

“He doesn’t seem to bad” Angelina started before looking towards Fred who was now giving her a knowing look, darting his eyes to you, then George. “Actually you know what, better play it safe”

“Should we take him to the hospital wing?” You asked

“Oh no, no need for that, but you should stick by him just in case” Fred said, pushing George to stand next to you.

“Yeah, in fact, you two should share a room! Broom related injuries can flare up at night so Y/n should be there just in case” Angelina said in a feigned serious tone.

The pieces started to click in your head and you glared at Angelina, who was desperately trying to hide her grin.

“Ok, that's absolutely not true, and where would you sleep?” You asked Angelina, trying to get her to give up on her little plan.

“See! You’re so knowledgeable on medical stuff, even more reason to stay with him! As for the sleeping situation, Angelina is more than welcome to bunk with me” Fred said cheekily, making you roll your eyes.

“I’m still here you know, and I feel fine” George interrupted

“Of course dear brother, but you may be in shock. Believe me you’re in good hands” Fred said as he slung an arm around Angelina before making their way back to the tent, leaving you and George standing next to each other, wondering what the hell just happened.

After a few moments, you and George snapped out of your stunned silence and started making your way back to the tent, joking about how this was most likely all some big excuse so Angelina and Fred could get together. You continued to joke with each other until you reached the tent, the other members of the group all having disappeared to their own rooms, leaving only one remaining for you and George.

And of course, there was only one bed.

One bed, with George, who you’ve had a crush on since fourth year, who was completely unaware of your feelings.

You were going to kill Angelina

“You know, I feel completely fine so I can just take the floor” George said after a moment, snapping you out of your thoughts.

“What, don’t be ridiculous George, if anyone's taking the floor its me” You argued.

“Well I don’t want you to sleep on the floor either, so looks like were sharing” George started, before quickly adding “Unless you’re uncomfortable, because I don’t want you to-”

“George its ok, we’re both adults, it’ll be fine for one night” You said with a humorous tone that you hoped would help hide your nervousness.

“Yeah totally” George replied.

“Great”

“I’m going to get changed” You said

“Me too” He said

You left the room and stood outside, face palming yourself. ‘What the fuck is wrong with you’ you mumbled to yourself.

You made your way to the main room, seeing your pajamas were already set out by Angelina, which you were somewhat thankful for. You quickly got changed into your large Tee and some shorts before heading back to the room, hesitating before you walked in.

George was sitting on the edge of the bed, now wearing sleep shorts but his shirt from earlier was still on. He looked up when you walked in, giving you a soft smile before returning his eyes to his hands, which were currently fiddling with the hem of his shirt.

“You ok?” You asked, walking further into the room.

“Yeah, yeah I just messed my shoulder up a bit so I’m having trouble getting this off” He mumbled, motioning to his shirt.

“...Can I help?” You asked, sitting next to him.

“You don’t have to, I’ll figure it out I just-” He started, 

“George” You interrupted, holding his face in your hands so he would look at you. “Please let me help”

He didn’t respond, just looked at you before letting out a sigh and nodding his head. You moved you hands from his face to the bottom of his shirt, slowly starting to lift it. You let you eyes dart to his exposed skin, before re-focusing yourself. George lifted his arms and your fingers brushed against his back as you lifted the fabric off his body, making his breath hitch.

“Sorry, did I hurt you?” You ask, stopping your movements.

“No, no you’re fine” George replied quickly.

“Ok, just let me know if anything hurts” You said before continuing to gently lift his shirt until it it was finally removed.

“Thank you” George said softly, turning to face you but your eyes were glued to the shirt in your hands, too nervous to look him in the eyes.

“Of course” You replied, giving him a quick glance and a smile before returning your gaze to your hands quickly handing him the shirt which he took. “Is your shoulder ok? Because I can go get some ice or-”

You were cut of my Georges hand finding your face, making you look up at him before his lips were suddenly on yours. Shivers ran up your spine, and all you could feel was him, his soft lips on yours, the smell of sweets and fireworks, his warm hand on your face. And then just as soon as it was there, it was gone.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable, shit I’m sorr-” George started pulling away, but you didn’t let him finish.

You moved your hand to his face and pulled him in to re-connected your lips. His hands moved to your hips and he pulled you onto his lap so you were now straddling him. Once again, you were lost in the kiss, only feeling him. And once again, he pulled away.

“Wait wait hold on, are you kissing me because I ate shit or because you actually like me?” George asked, making you hold back a laugh.

“I actually like you, I have for a while actually” You replied, making a smile spread across his face.

“I’ve liked you for a while as well” He responded, making your eyes widen in shock.

“Seriously? I was giving so many signs and I thought you were never going to catch on, that’s why Angelina tried to get you to confess a secret” You said

“No, Fred started the game to see if he could you to confess a secret” George said, realization suddenly washing over the both of you.

“They are truly evil” You said, almost impressed by their ability to secretly work together.

“True, but I also owe them my thanks” George smiled, re-connecting his lips to yours, poking your sides which made you giggle into the kiss, allowing George to slip his tongue into your mouth.

Ok, maybe Angelina and Fred deserved a thank you.

So in multiple POV books, sometimes two scenes from two different POVs happen simultaneously. Usually, it’s much easier to portray this in movies and tv shows by cross-cutting scenes and interspersing them using the ocean's novel formula I think, to create suspens and tension in fight scenes or backstories parallelism.

In a book, my wip for example, I find it much difficult to convey the same feelings and tension in words.

Any tips and/or guidelines plz?

Could you plz add an example of your own creation just to see the result something like a cheat sheet /not that I'm using it, just to understand how I can go through it/?

Hey anon!

Quick disclaimer - I write in single pov, so the advice below is based off of what I've seen, and how I would tackle it theoretically if it was something I was thinking of writing something like this. Similarly, because multi-pov is not something I particularly enjoy writing in (personal preference, nothing inherantly wrong with it), and it would probably take me several hours to produce a new work that was of much quality, I'm not going to include my own final example, though there are little tidbits below, as they became relevant. Also, this got long, hence the read more.

Alrighty into the good stuff!

So the first thing to consider is why it seems easier to pull off more rapid pov switches in movies. The main thing is grounding. Oftentimes, movies will put characters in situations where their background is at least somewhat different, and sometimes they'll mess with the music a bit (though not always). This makes it really easy for the audience to place where the characters are in a split second, which in turn means producers don't have to spend a ton of time re-establishing where each person is. This helps to keep tension up.

The thing with books is that we only have words to work off of - no visuals to provide readers with instant grounding. That means if you want to pull it off well, quickly grounding readers every shift is essential.

Parallel backstories are probably going to be a lot trickier to pull off in writing than they are in movies. The reason they work in cinima is that a) like we mentioned before it takes a lot less time to do the whole grounding thing, b) parallels are a lot more aesthetically pleasing when you can see them, but they can come across as repetitive when read, and c) dramatic time shifts like flashbacks are easier to pull off in movies where you can see that characters are visibly younger, but they tend to be disliked by readers, as it tends to disrupt forward momentum.

Intercutting stories with regards to backstory pretty much means you need to be right there with your character to see the backstory unfold. Which means flashbacks.

In some books, flashbacks are a key part of the narrative, especially if it's in a story where time is more fluid. However, if you only have one or two cases where you need to jump back, it has a much greater potential to look lazy. More often than not, it's generally considered a stronger story if you can find a way to intersperse backstory throughout the story.

It also means it's often more interesting to show their backstories, but let the audience come to the conclusion on their own that they're actually kinda parallel, and see how that affects how the characters turn out.

The next thing to consider when maintaining tension is pacing - the pull and push of scenes or even smaller beats that keeps a story dynamic. Even within faster scenes, you have places where you still make your audience wait, or else it'll be over too quick. Slower scenes still need to have some faster bits to maintain forward movement.

Each time you switch povs, you are creating a little bit of waiting time for the "non-active" pov. This is not a guarantee to establish tension, but it does help. To balance it out, make sure what's happening on the page keeps moving. Give your characters time on page to rest sometimes, but largely keep moving forward.

Another thing with pacing for multi-pov is that the longer you bench a certain pov, the longer it takes to get back in their head. So make sure to give all of your pov characters similar page time. They don't have to go in a specific rotation, but they should be balanced.

Some thoughts about making pov shifts that don't disrupt the forward momentum as much:

1 - Establish location before it becomes vital. This is actually something that is key to a lot of action scenes, because nothing breaks tension and immersion like the author saying "oh wait here's this detail that i forgot to tell you until now." Basically, set up the general layout and other necessary details when things are calmer, so the reader has a chance to set up a mental map of the place, and when things are more tense, keep readers spacially grounded by referencing what you've already established.

2 - To make it clear that things are happening at the same time, use references that can pop up in both povs. For example, maybe all the lights go out, or maybe in one scene, a character shoots a gun, and in the next (because pov switch), a character hears a gunshot going off. You're going to want a time, place, and pov reference right away to ground your readers (if you're doing third person, the pov reference could just be saying that person's name), and you're going to want to have a few space and time references as you go through the scene, so that when you do your next pov shift, readers can slot it into the correct chronological spot.

3 - Similarly, make sure that timing matches up. Your audience will notice these things. If two reference points in one pov happen three minutes apart in world, the same reference points have to take three minutes in the other pov too. Something that I HIGHLY suggest is before splitting up your povs, create an outline of what happens from an omnicient point of view, so you can make sure to get characters to the right place in the right amount of time

4 - You don't have to make each character's scene start and stop at the same in world time. This is what makes the aforementioned time references so important. However, if you're going to skip something like a character going from the kitchens to the dungeons because nothing really happens, you have to show that intention before you cut away, or else it's going to take a lot longer to re-establish where a character is.

5 - To keep tension up, mini cliffhangers can work in your favor. Maybe a character gets captured and they're about to discover who his captor is, but then you cut to the other character in a cell, trying to pick the lock before anyone notices.

6 - Remember that in situations like these, your readers will often have a better idea of the overall picture than your characters. If you reveal something in one pov, remember that you don't have to reveal it again in the other, unless it's a means to reveal more necessary information. Going to the example from point 5, maybe in the next scene, the captured character figures out that it's a trap, and that if anyone else walks through the door it will blow up. But the lockpicking one doesn't know that. So she's trying to get there and rescue him. Tension is created both because she has to do it without getting caught, but we as readers would know that if she manages to follow through, it will be devastating. The trick is that the thought shouldn't really cross her mind, because she has no way of knowing it.

7 - Choose your povs with purpose. Does the reader need to know something for the chain of events to keep making sense? Which pov will be privvy to the most knowelege? Does there need to be something ominous (like maybe a body falls past a window), but revealing why that happened would kill some of the suspense? Which pov would reasonably be near the window, but wouldn't be able to see or hear what was happening above? Also consider where it makes sense to bring in povs that haven't been in the spotlight for a little while.

8 - Remember that you can't cut as fast between povs at the same speed you can in movies because of that whole grounding issue. Give each pov at least a full scene to themselves, and sometimes a few so that we can actually see things unfolding, and then switch. If you create things that other povs can reference, even if only in passing, it will still maintain the experience of things happening at the same time.

Masterlist

Being the student at Hogwarts who knew how to get almost anything meant having anyone from any house in any year come up to you asking for things. Which was a bit interesting considering you were a Slytherin and according to the rest of the houses you ‘Weren’t to be trusted’.

“What can I do for you, Weasley?” George and Fred were two of your biggest customers. They asked you to get pretty much anything. At first they were wary of you since you, of course, are in Slytherin. It wasn’t like you trusted them either, since they were both notorious for pranking, and more specifically pranking almost everyone in the house of Slytherin. And the first time you did business with them somehow you had convinced them to tell you what they were going to do with red paint and gold glitter. They promised they would never prank you in return for providing them with the products they needed.

“We need Firewhiskey,” Fred easily stated. You never had any trouble acquiring any of the products that were requested but you always wanted to know what they were going to use it for. If they didn’t want to tell you then you didn’t push them, but they usually ended up telling you anyways; sometimes without even having to ask. “We are celebrating, love.”

One thing about Fred was that he almost never called you by your name. And he was always flirting with you. Sometimes you flirted right back and other times, you rolled your eyes in complete and utter annoyance but you would for a fact miss it if he ever stopped, but you would never tell anyone that.  

“Celebrating what if I may ask?” You didn't know what they had to celebrate at a time like this. With Umbridge trying to overthrow Dumbledore, with her inhumane ways of handing out detention, and most importantly her lack of intelligence there was nothing good going on this year.

“Life,” George spoke. He was a lot more quiet compared to Fred who had always seemed to be screaming for Salazar knows what.

“Well then,” you started, “ I will get it to you tomorrow; enjoy your celebration of life and I will enjoy the six Galleons you two will pay me.”

“How about five Galleons and we invite you to our celebration,” Fred bargained. You turned to George to see if he was going to try anything. He stood there standing and looking back and forth between you and Fred.

“How about four Galleons, you come to the celebration of Life and Fred takes you for Butterbeer, his treat,” he added, smirking at the both of us.

Before Fred could finish what he was going to say you cut him off, “his treat?” you asked George, leaving Fred completely out of the conversation. He nodded and Fred hit him on his shoulder. “Okay then, why not,” you finished walking off not wanting either of them —mainly Fred— to see your growing smile.

George and Fred’s celebration was the night before you and Fred would be going on your ‘date’. George told you to come 15 minutes earlier than everyone else to deliver the  and remove the wards on the boys dormitory, because for some reason you knew how.

You left the Slytherin common room and started making your way towards Gryffindor tower when you were pulled by the arm into some hidden pathway.

“It’s alright,” the voice spoke and you still weren’t able to figure out who it was. “It’s Fred.” You let down your composure and released a breath of relief. “Merlin's beard you scared the bloody crap out of me,” you said, you could feel your heart that was previously racing starting to slow down. “What is this place?” you asked and looked down the dark pathway, but you weren’t able to see far due to the light from Fred’s wand not reaching very far.

“It’s a secret passage, and leads basically right outside the entrance to the Gryffindor common room,” he explained.

You didn’t care to ask any other questions, like how he knew this existed so you changed the subject, “who else is gonna be at your celebration of life, as George called it?”

“Just you, Katie, Angelina, Alicia, Lee, George, and I. You know the usual,” he finished shrugging his shoulders.

You had never formally spoken to them anywhere outside of class or if they were asking you for something. You were nervous to be in a room full of Gryffindors but you wouldn’t let it show. The walk to Fred’s house seemed like it was the longest walk ever but the shortest thing at the same time. Just like Fred said, the passage opened right outside the Gryffindor portrait of the Fat Lady.

The common room, compared to Slytherin, was a lot warmer and welcoming as you expected. George was waiting for the both of you on a couch. He stood up and walked over to you with a large grin across his face.

“Welcome!” he exclaimed. You handed him the three bottles of Firewhiskey and he took them from you, his smile growing even more if that was possible. He led you to the boys dorm stair entrance to remove the charm and at the same time, Angelina, Katie, and Alicia, were walking down the stairs of the girls dormitories.

Out of the corner of your eye, you could see Angelina giving you a dirty look. You decided not to say anything about and not end up being the ‘Problematic Slytherin’. Taking your wand out and pointing at the boys' dorms, you whispered the incantation to remove the ward. “It’s off,” you stated, turning around to face everyone else.

George automatically led the way to his dorm and everyone followed. You went up second-to-last with Fred walking behind you. The Gryffindor dorm looks just like the Slytherin one’s other than the colors and the fact that it’s not underwater so it was already a lot less cold.

Jordan was already in the dorm laying down on the floor. He stood up and sat on his bed when he heard people entering the room.

“What’s up with you?” Katie asked laughing at Lee, taking a seat next to him.  

You took a seat next to Fred, on what you guessed to be his bed. Angelina, Alicia, and George were sitting on the bed across from you and Fred and next to Lee and Katie. George stood up to open the three bottles of Firewhiskey and passed them around.  

“So what are we going to do?” Alicia asked, after taking a swig from the bottle then passing it off to Lee.

“How about we play truth or drink?” Lee suggested, drinking from the bottle. “It could be fun.”

“It's a muggle game if you didn’t know,” Angelina interrupted. “Unless you have a problem with muggles, Y/L/N?” she asked, quite rudely.

“Stop, what the hell are you talking about?,” you asked, confused by what she meant.

“I mean,” she started, “I wouldn’t expect you to be fond of anything muggle related, Y/N.”

“Get my pretty name outta your mouth. And don’t talk about me like how you might know how I feel. I really couldn’t care less. I don’t have a single problem with muggles or anything that they do, I think they’re the coolest,” you finished, standing up. “I think I’m gonna go now. Thanks for the invitation, George. Have a good time and drink wisely,” you said leaving the room. 

You could hear another pair of footsteps follow after you. You turned around after you reached the bottom of the stair and you ran into Fred’s chest. “Sorry,” he mumbled. “Are you alright?” he asked, looking down/up at you. “Yeah, “ you said while nodding. “I’m just tired of people always thinking that all Slytherins are blood purists and that we hate muggles.”

“I’m sorry about her,” he started but you cut him off.

“It’s not your fault, Fred. But I really think I should just go back to my common room, goodnight,” you said, giving him a small smile.

But Fred had insisted on walking you all the way to your dormitory. You both stood facing one another, not saying a word. The corridor was dimly lit and drafty but it was like you couldn’t feel it when the boy with the fiery red hair was around you.

“Goodnight, Fred,” you spoke softly. He stood, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed staring down/up at you. He uncrossed his arms and reached for your hand. He gave it a squeeze, “goodnight, love,” he said, then turning around to head back to his dorm. But he stopped in the middle of the corridor before turning around and walking back to you. “One more thing,” and before you could ask what, his lips were on yours. You kissed him back before he pulled away. “I’ll see you tomorrow, I’ll pick you up at 8,” he said before walking away again, but not before giving you another peck on the lips.

“Tomorrow at 8,” you whispered to yourself.

A private Christian school in Oklahoma allegedly expelled a second grader and cut ties with her family after she told a female classmate that she had a crush on her.

The student’s mom, Delanie Shelton, told NBC News that she received a call Jan. 21 from the Rejoice Christian School in Owasso, just outside Tulsa, telling her that she had to pick up her 8-year-old daughter, Chloe, after an “incident on the playground.”

Shelton said when she arrived at the school, Vice Principal Kelli Owens asked her how she feels “about girls liking girls.”

“I said, ‘Well, if I'm being honest with you, I think it's OK for girls to like girls,’ and I mean, she looked like disgusted and surprised at my answer,” Shelton said.

She said Principal Rita Woolf asked her where Chloe learned “this kind of language about the word ‘gay,’” to which Shelton said she responded by noting that gay couples are represented in many kids’ television shows, adding, “unless you completely shelter your children, it's just part of life.”

Shelton said the school officials told her to take her daughter home and not to bring her back the next day. When they got home, Shelton said Chloe started crying and told her that a teacher said, “The Bible says that you can only marry a man, and you can only have kids with a man, and it's a sin for girls to like girls, and it's not in the Bible, and it's not OK in God's eyes.”

“She was crying and just asking me if God still loved her, and, you know, if she was wrong for feeling the way that she does,” Shelton added.

Shelton said the situation was “heartbreaking” for her and said she assured Chloe that God loves her and always will.

“You know, a school that's supposed to be teaching specifically God's love and grace and forgiveness, and no matter what, to make an 8-year-old question if God loves her is just not OK,” she said.

Shelton said she received a call the following day from Superintendent Joel Pepin, who informed her that Rejoice would be “ending their partnership” with the Shelton family — including Chloe’s 5-year-old brother, Oliver — because the family’s beliefs did not align with that of the school.

Officials from Rejoice Christian School did not respond to requests for comment regarding Chloe’s expulsion. However, on Jan. 28, Pepin released a statement saying, “Due to privacy and other factors, it is the school’s policy to refrain from public comments regarding any particular student or family.”

Access to the school’s handbook, which is online, is restricted, so NBC News could not view it firsthand. However, based on screenshots shared by Shelton, it appears the school has changed the handbook since it parted ways with the Shelton family, though neither version addresses same-sex relationships. In a screenshot taken by Shelton the day Chloe was expelled, the handbook stated that “boyfriend-girlfriend relationships while at school” are prohibited. In a second screenshot taken Tuesday, it stated that students could build relationships “based on purity,” but that “inappropriate displays” of affection are not allowed.

Shelton said that she didn’t closely examine the handbook for its policy on same-sex relationships when she enrolled Chloe at 4 years old.

Since Chloe was expelled, Woolf has refused to have a sit down meeting with the family, according to Shelton.

“They weren't willing to speak with me, I guess, about anything,” she said. “Just kicked my kids out after four years of going there, and we went to their church and Chloe did basketball and cheer for them, so it was like a huge part of our life. It was more than just school.”

Shelton has since enrolled Chloe and Oliver in a new school and said the family has received both local and national support since the incident. The households that live across the street from Rejoice organized a drive-by parade for Chloe and put signs up with supportive messages in their yards, and the family has received cards in the mail.

“It's just made her feel so much more comfortable being herself and knowing that God still loves her and all these people that don't even know her support her and love her as well,” Shelton said.

The family hasn’t pursued legal action, but Shelton said “the possibility is still on the table.”

It’s unclear, though, whether a lawsuit would go in the family’s favor. Paul Castillo, an attorney and students’ rights strategist at Lambda Legal, an LGBTQ legal advocacy group, said private religious schools are governed by slightly different standards than public schools and could be exempt from some federal nondiscrimination protections, even if they receive federal funding. In fact, Rejoice received over $1 million in April through the federal government’s Paycheck Protection Program for Covid-19 relief.

In addition, Oklahoma’s nondiscrimination laws do not include LGBTQ people.

Religious schools aren’t required by federal law to publish their position on same-sex relationships, for example, so many parents enroll their kids in religious schools and are later caught by surprise if the school states that it is opposed to same-sex marriage, according to Castillo.

“It's important for parents and prospective parents to have a look at the school and make inquiries about diversity and inclusion,” Castillo said, noting that there are private religious schools that embrace LGBTQ families.

As for Chloe, Shelton said, what she wants might change as she grows. Shelton just wants her to know that “no matter who she ends up loving, she will be supported and loved, no matter what.”

I’d like to request a Brooklyn x Tyson fic! I recently had the idea of Brooklyn developing a crush on Tyson, since he was the first person to try to be his friend. But I couldn’t think of how to write this myself. I’m curious if Tyson could come to return the feelings of someone who almost killed someone so dear to him.

Okay uh- I got really carried away with this one! Man it was good! I formed a lot of opinions as I wrote this I hope it’s to your liking! You mentioned if I thought Tyson could return the feelings of someone who almost killed someone so dear to him so I added a bit of that spice in there! Hope you enjoy :) It sorta turned into a full fic WHOOPS. Anything in * are Tyson’s private thoughts!

The party was a great success. 

Mr. Dickenson was very impressed with his work. He had made a great area under the bridge beside the small BBA headquarters, well headquarters is putting it nicely, it’s a decent sized shack. 

So he was understandably nervous when he invited all the teams to a large summer party.

To his surprise, almost everyone showed up, it brought a massive smile to his old face.

The Bladebreakers helped a lot, Hilary hung up lanterns and decorations, Kenny and Max catered food, and Ray and Tyson sent out invites and dealt with the technical stuff. 

“Wow even Kai came!” 

“Of course Kai would come you crazy old man.” Hiro stood beside Mr. Dickenson with his arms crossed, not exactly happy to be there. 

“Of course? He’s a loner isn’t he?” Mr. Dickenson questioned.

“Not since the fall of BEGA, he’s stuck to the Bladebreakers like glue. It’s annoying seeing him in the Dojo with his friends whenever I go there.” 

“It’s nice to hear the words ‘Kai’ and ‘friends’ in the same sentence.” Mr. Dickenson smiled ignoring Hiro’s previous statements.

“Even Brooklyn’s here!” Mr. Dickenson clapped his hands together with glee looking into the crowd at the flash of orange hair.

“Yeah being a rebel as usual.” Hiro rolled his eyes.

Brooklyn was smiling while talking to members of the white tigers. Everyone seemed to be on edge with his team's appearance, but since BEGA it seemed to be mutually decided to let them back into the beyblade community, forgetting the past. 

“How’s he doing?” Mr. Dickenson’s eyebrows knit together in concern. 

“Alright. Training him is tough, as usual. He’s on meds now, and seeing a psychologist. I would like to say he’s getting there, but he’s not even close.” 

Mr. Dickenson nodded, acknowledging, but not showing any emotion, he didn’t know what emotions to show or feel, he tilted his head realizing that’s how Brooklyn thought all the time.

He finally decided on a response. 

“He looks happy.” 

Hiro shrugged, “we will never truly know. Boris did a number on an already ill child.” 

“The BBA is always here for you when you need it.” 

Hiro gifted him a warm smile, “Thanks Stanley, that means a lot. To me and also Brooklyn.”

On the other side of the room, Max and Ray hung out by the buffet table, finally full they sipped some juice out of plastic containers. 

“Isn’t this a party.” Ray mouthed the words into the juice cup while glaring at Brooklyn talking to the White Tigers. 

“You jealous he’s talking to Miriah? Just go over there and ask her to dance.”

Ray spluttered coughing up some of his juice, “Wha-? No! I’m just angry he’s really here in general-”

“Don’t lie Ray.” Max grinned. 

“Look- Look at all the people dancing Max, there’s no room and- Aren’t we spying on Tyson anyways?” 

“We can do two things at once.” Max took an elegant sip.

“Okay- How many people has Tyson danced with again?”

“Lost count again Ray? Keep up Buddy.” Max laughed while slapping him on the shoulder, causing Ray to again splutter his juice. 

Max surveyed the crowd, “a lot of people, but as predicted he’s been more flirty with the guys.” Max shrugged his shoulders with a know-it-all attitude. 

After Tyson inadvertently came out to Max and Ray the other day they decided it was their mission to help Tyson with his sexuality, a party with tons of dancing was the perfect opportunity.

“He was the most flirty with…” Ray trailed off trying to remember, suddenly concerned with the number of guys Tyson had danced with. 

“Oliver.” Max snapped his fingers.

“Yeah but Oliver’s already dating someone so he doesn’t count.” Ray rolled his eyes. 

“Wait what’s our goal here for tonight?” Max asked quizzically, knowing full well what they wanted to do. 

“To get him to kiss someone of course!” 

“Alright calm down it will be done by the end of the night.” 

Tyson was tired from dancing so much. He barely knew how to dance and yet tonight he felt like an expert. He went back to a table and grabbed his cup of punch gulping it down. He looked down at his outfit he chose, it was much different from what he would regularly wear, a little more revealing and mature, he liked it. 

Tyson was aware of the inner turmoil going on inside himself. Mentally he didn’t know where he belonged, he felt it before the BEGA championship and now he felt it bubbling over, so much that he accidentally got Ray and Max involved.

*Ah, damn it.*

Tyson just wanted to keep dancing, dancing and socializing was keeping his mind off everything.

*I’ve almost danced with everyone here though-*

“Hey Tyson! Dance with me?” Emily was blushing a bit when she asked.

“Yeah? A pretty girl like you? Of course.” Tyson cringed when he couldn’t tell if he meant it or not. 

He gently grasped her wrist and brought her to the clearing where everyone was dancing and without touching began to dance. 

“Dancing with the world champ, I wanted to do it once, while I had the opportunity.” Emily blushed a bit, mostly out of embarrassment, if anyone asked *not* admiration. 

“Well here you are.” Tyson grinned while grabbing both her hands and swinging them back and forth in an awkward yet cute dance. 

She giggled a bit, however was immediately interrupted by a deep sophisticated voice. 

“Tyson? Can I take you away from this pretty lady?”

Tyson turned his head, not expecting the shine of Brooklyn’s earring to catch his eye.

Tyson’s jaw dropped a bit, he could not vocalize an answer. 

Brooklyn placed a hand on his chest and made a slight bow, “may I have this dance?” 

Tyson directed his attention back to Emily who simply nodded and pointed his hands in Brooklyn’s direction. 

Brooklyn grasped his hand and waist in a very formal way, Tyson wasn’t expecting it, he brushed it off as maybe being the only way he knew how to dance. 

“Nice to see you again Tyson.” 

Tyson grinned slightly, he looked *really* good. Tyson decided to start a conversation before the silence got weird. 

“Last time I saw you-”

“Things were weird.” 

“Yeah.” Tyson tried to laugh but it came out a bit high pitched for his liking. 

Brooklyn chuckled, but it came out more of a deep growl. 

Tyson bit his lip just a bit.

*Woah, okay, no- He might be the best looking guy here but he’s- Brooklyn.*

“Tyson? Are you alright?”

“Yeah! I-I’m fine. Are you um-”

“Just ask.” 

“Are you okay? Since the tournament I mean.”

“I’m alright. I wanted to talk to you Tyson, specifically to thank you.” 

Tyson tilted his head as a silent ‘why’? 

“You really helped me. You were the hand that took me out of that dark place, and although I have a long way to go, you started it, without you I would still be with Boris- or not, you know, here.”

Tyson blinked a few times.

“So, thank you Tyson, for saving me.” 

“You’re um- Welcome.” Tyson slowed his pace to gently move back and forth.

Brooklyn grasped his hand harder and pulled himself closer to Tyson.

“What can I do for you in return?” He grew a sly look on his face.

Tyson’s eyes grew wide.

*There’s no way he could know- No? No way? Unless he was talking to Hiro- No even Hiro doesn’t know-”

“Tyson?” 

“Y-Yeah?”

“You’re doing it again.” 

“Sorry…” Tyson mumbled looking down at their shoes. 

“You know…” Brooklyn took his hand off Tyson’s waist and placed a finger under Tyson’s chin forcing him to tilt his neck to look at him. 

Brooklyn took a deep breath and laid out his thoughts just barely above a whisper. 

“I kind of want to kiss you…” 

Tyson’s whole body turned to ice, no fire, no he turned into a ghost? The feelings his body were trying to signal his brain were all jumbled and he couldn’t figure out what to do, or what he wanted to do. 

“I-” 

“We could sneak out, just for a few minutes, if that’s what you want.” Brooklyn changed his entire demeanor instantly, trying to appeal to Tyson’s tastes.

It worked. 

“Yo what is going on over there?” Max whispered to Ray while spying on Tyson and Brooklyn across the room. 

“I’ve been wondering the exact same thing.” Ray mumbled in a worried tone. 

“I have mixed feelings about this…” Max put a hand over his mouth deep in thought. 

“I mean- Would it hurt? If he dated Brooklyn I mean?”

“Dating! Ray!” 

“I mean- Kai would be pissed but Brooklyn’s not exactly *evil* just…”

“Mentally ill? Unpredictable?” Max started listing at max speed. 

“Hey Max it’s not his fault he’s mentally ill. After working for Boris he must have suitcases of trauma.” 

“His special attack is called ‘King of Darkness attack.” Max rolled his eyes. 

“Okay, you got me there, but what are we going to *do* about it?” 

Max hovered in place thinking, unfortunately while they were thinking about it, Tyson and Brooklyn disappeared. 

“Ah fuck-” Ray stammered. 

“Like you said Ray, not like we could do anything about it.” 

“Tyson and Brooklyn though? I think I heard he was pissed at Hiro, could he be doing it to get back at him?” Ray pointed out with a worried expression. 

“We know Tyson he won’t do anything dangerous, if anything he will just experiment with Brooklyn maybe kiss a bit-”

“What.”

Ray and Max both turned on their heels to confront the familiar voice, their faces read fear, after all it was the one person they didn’t want to hear from. 

Kai stood there mouth agape for a few moments managing to pool together his thoughts.

“What. The. Fuck.”

Please always make sure to check if my requests are open or closed. When I open my requests the below status will change to Open, and when I close them, it will say Closed. I usually write for female and neutral characters, but it is necessary for me to know what you would prefer. 

Please mention if you would like female reader, neutral or either is good. If not specified I will write with a female!reader in my mind. I do not writer OC and I don’t specify eye, hair, skin colour and sizes. I try to keep the readers neutral.

If you have a specific idea, please feel free to write it down. 

It can be just a vague idea, but you can go into details too. Please understand that some parts might be changed if I feel the need to adjust them to what I imagined. Overall ideas won't be changed, but small parts might be.

Themed requests

Requests that are specifically based on a theme such as Christmas, New Year or Valentine's day can only be requested around that period. [I do not write for 4th July, thanks giving and such unless they are connected to the UK such as St. Patrick's day]

Types of work I write

I write one shots, mini-series and multiple part stories, however these are always decided when I write them, therefore please do not request a series, because your idea might only be a one shot in my head and vice versa.

Requests are subject to rejection

If I don't get inspired by an idea or a character, or even both at the same time, or they don't meet the previously stated guidelines, I can and will reject requests that I have received. I can not force myself to write something I don't vibe with, because writing is a hobby, something I do for fun and I would like to keep it that way.

Topics I do not write for

I do not write stories that contain s*icide, self-h*rm, eating d*sorder, other d*sorders that I do not have knowledge on, r*pe, s*xual ass*ult, ab*se, rac*sm, non-c*nsensual s*x, ph*odphilia.

Requests that I accept will be staying in my inbox until a date has been set for posting. Dates will be in the reply and can also be found in my Schedule.

Multiple requests
