Can He Cook?

“Wakatoshi, what on earth?” you asked doing your best to hold in your giggles.

Your stoic boyfriend was standing in the kitchen, spatula in one hand, chopsticks in the other, with an incredibly concentrated look on his face. It was a look normally reserved for his opponents across the volleyball net, but while that was funny on its own, what nearly had you in stitches trying to hold the laughter in, was the apron he was wearing.

It was frilly, cute, and just a bit too small with the words “househusband in training” printed boldly across the chest.

“Tendou told me it is common for partners to express their affection by making a home cooked meal for them,” Ushijima told you, the words immediately making you want to melt, at how utterly sweet it was.

Your poor boyfriend didn’t have the most social intelligence, he tended to flounder when it came to doing or saying the right thing when it came to people. This was especially true in your relationship, which you honestly put down to the slightly disturbing dynamic between his parents, who both loved him unconditionally but resented each other.

However, no matter what he did, he did it with the utmost sincerity, which you couldn’t help but find incredibly endearing. And you’d never say no to a home cooked meal.

“I appreciate it Wakatoshi, thank you,” you told him sincerely, walking up to hug him around the waist.

“I’m glad I can show you my appreciation this way,” he told you, folding you into a warm hug, the kind never failed to make you feel safe and utterly adored, “I will endeavor to cook more often if you like.”

“Only if you feel like it Toshi,” you assured him, “Because you make me feel plenty loved.”

He nodded seriously, gave you one last squeeze and turned back to the meal, checking to make sure it was cooking well. The good that night was pretty good, a few pieces were burnt here and there, but it was all edible, and to you it tasted amazing because it was an expression of how very much your boyfriend cared for you. Though you did have to stop and ask, “Where did you get the apron Toshi?”

“Tendou sent it to me, he said it would aid in my cooking abilities,” Ushijima told you seriously, “I do not know if it helped or not, and I’m not sure what a househusband is but it kept my shirt clean at least.”

You nodded and made a mental note to call Tendou later to scold him for not explaining the joke to your poor boyfriend even if the apron was very cute, and to thank him for the suggestion of the date then settled in to enjoy the meal, and the time with your very sweet boyfriend.

6/10 He Can Cook passably, nothing too special but enough to get by, and he does it out of love!

Can He Clean?

You glanced around the quiet apartment and let out a sigh of amused resignation. You’d come over because you wanted to see your boyfriend when he got home. Ushijima had, had a training camp in Europe, and had been gone for a couple of weeks. While he was very good at keeping in touch, calling you every evening at nine pm on the dot, which was something ridiculous like 6 am for him, you’d been dying to see him in person. There really wasn’t anything quite like being held by your strong, enormous boyfriend.

Thus you’d planned to surprise him by being at his apartment when he got home today, using the key he’d given you a few months ago. You’d even brought ingredients so you could cook him his favorite Hayashi rice. Unfortunately cooking was going to have to wait a while.

It was very clear your boyfriend had left in a hurry. There were a few dirty dishes in the sink, a full trashcan, and a quick glance in his bedroom showed dirty clothes flung around haphazardly, and there were definite hairs in the sink in the bathroom from shaving before he left.

It honestly wasn’t too surprising. Your boyfriend had actually grown up with a bit of a silver spoon in his mouth. His family was incredibly wealthy and actually had maids who took care of little messes like the ones he tended to leave. Usually he was pretty good about picking up after himself, so it wasn’t quite so bad, but apparently, he’d been having an off day when he left for Europe.

Deciding the last thing he needed to deal with when he got home was a messy apartment you immediately rolled up your sleeves and got to work. It didn’t take too long, just an hour or so to get the dish washer and laundry machine going, along with wiping down a few surfaces. However it did put you a bit behind schedule with your cooking, which meant it wasn’t quite ready when the door slid open and your boyfriend arrived home at last.

He blinked, clearly startled at the sight of you in his apartment, wearing his ‘househusband in training’ apron, but the startled expression melted pretty quickly into pleasure a small but utterly sincere smile turning his lips upwards.

“I’m home,” he told you, as you bounded over to him, practically flinging yourself into his open arms.

“Welcome home,” you returned brightly, “How was your trip?”

“It was very productive,” he told you sincerely as he glanced around the room, a slight frown on his face as he bluntly asked, “Did you clean my apartment?”

“I did,” you admitted, calmly.

“You did not need to do that,” he told you, with a frown that others might think meant he was angry with you, but you knew meant he was concerned and a bit worried, “It was unnecessary. I would have cleaned it for you.”

“I know,” you assured him with an affectionate smile, pressing a fond kiss to the underside of his jaw, “But I wanted to do it for you this once. Think of it as a welcome home present from me to you.”

“Thank you,” he immediately responded, deeply sincere and as endearingly grateful as ever for any gift you gave him, “Though I will endeavor to be cleaner when I leave next time.”

You simply laughed at that, acknowledging his point, feeling incredibly soft for your sweet boyfriend, who may not be the cleanest, but who was almost certainly the most sincere and endearing man you’d ever met.

7/10 He’s got the occasional mess here and there, but for the most part he’s fairly clean and will absolutely fix his mess if you ask him to!

Average Score?

6.5/10 Ushijima is just above average at cooking and cleaning so he’s not a dud, but he’s not a deity either! Not that it matters to him, so long as he can continue to be a deity on the volleyball court!

Can He Cook?

“What’s all this?” you asked your boyfriend, startled as you stared at the impressive spread before you. It was your anniversary, one hundred days to be exact, and the two of you had decided that instead of eating out, since you hadn’t been able to spend as much time together recently, you’d eat in instead.

Kuroo had immediately volunteered to get the food, and you’d brought alcohol and dessert. If you were honest, you’d fully expected Kuroo was going to order in from somewhere or another, but the food at the table, a rather lovely smelling hot pot, definitely didn’t look like take out.

“Dinner,” Kuroo told you with a pleased smirk, “You said you liked seafood right?”

“I did,” you agreed with a smile, “I just never this, it looks amazing.”

“I did say I’d take care of it,” he gloated, then teased, “I see you didn’t bother to make anything.”

“Hey now, this is from one of the top ranked patisseries in Tokyo,” you told him, clutching the box to your chest, “If you don’t want any, that’s just more for me!”

“I didn’t say that,” he told you, gently tugging the box from your arms, which you released only because he gave you a placating peck on the lips, “I’m sure we’ll both enjoy it later, but first dinner!”

The two of you sat down together, chatting lightly about your day as you picked what you wanted from the hotpot, smiling affectionately at your boyfriend as he tried to ensure you got all the prime pieces. You hummed in delight when you put the first bit in your mouth, pleasantly surprised by how good it was.

“This is so good Tetsu,” you praised delightedly, “Thanks for making dinner for me.”

“Seafood is my specialty,” he admitted with a smug grin, “And of course I’m good at it, it’s all chemistry right?”

You huffed in amusement, somehow unsurprised that, that was the reason your boyfriend had focused enough of his attention on cooking to become good at it. Truthfully you’d learned Kuroo was good at pretty much everything he put his mind to, and you found yourself rather grateful that this just so happened to be one of them.

The two of you spent a wonderful evening together, trading jokes, and feeding each other pieces of food from the hotpot with your chopsticks, flirting and laughing and just generally having a good time. Your boyfriend could most certainly cook, and it was just one more thing you found endearing about him, especially since it meant in the future you could look forward to even more delicious food.

8/10 He Can Cook though I hope you like seafood, because it’s his specialty!

Can He Clean?

“Shoot, do you have another pen I can borrow?” you asked annoyed as you scribbled fervently with the one in your hand, hoping against hope that somehow ink would magically appear.

“I should have one in my desk,” Kuroo told you, moving to get if for you, but you waved him back towards the counter. He was cooking dinner for you again tonight and the last thing you wanted was for things to burn because you distracted him, since you had no idea what he was doing and couldn’t take over yourself.

“I’ve got it,” you assured him, “I know where your desk is.”

You meandered through the apartment, smiling slightly as you caught sight of the framed picture of the two of you sitting on his bedside in his room. His desk was off to the side, by the window because Kuroo claimed it was scientifically proven people worked better with natural light. You weren’t quite sure that was true, but it seemed to work for him so you didn’t argue.

Unfortunately the surface was bare of writing implements so you began to pull open drawers, searching for something suitable and gaped at it in a combination of shock and amusement.

Kuroo was always pretty neat, his apartment fairly clean. Occasionally there would be a hoodie or some other clothing scattered about, some hair in the bathroom, or the rare dirty dish in the sink, but nothing appalling. He was generally very good at cleaning up after himself, and hadn’t hesitated to give you a key and tell you to come over whenever you wanted.

It was pretty nice, and you enjoyed not having to worry about what you might find, the way you’d heard some boyfriends could be, and the way you’d seen some of your male friends be. You’d never expected he’d be hiding something like this.

As a test you opened every drawer, and every single one was the same, absolute chaos. There were bits of scrap paper, crumpled stick notes, crumbs, paperclips, loose staples, tools, wrappers, and all sorts of bits and bobs shoved into every drawer. It was a complete and utter mess and a little bit appalling honestly.

You stared at it wide eyed for a few seconds, but then grinned to yourself. Luckily it wasn’t too difficult to find a pen even with the mess, and you made your way back out to the kitchen where Kuroo was humming along with something that was playing on his phone.

“So, looks like I’ve discovered your dirty secret,” you teased, smirking at him, feeling rather vindicated as he turned to look at you with a completely baffled look on his face.

“Secret kitten?” he asked, utterly confused.

“Your desk looks like a whirlwind turned it upside down and shook after someone used it as a trash can,” you informed him with a giggle.

“Hey now,” he countered, though you thought he looked a bit flustered, “I know how to find everything I need and that’s what matters. It’s a very organized chaos. I have a system.”

“Uh-huh,” you agreed, letting your disbelief show on your face as you teased him.

“Better be nice to me kitten or I won’t feed you anymore,” he threatened, waving his chopsticks around menacingly.

You laughed and got up to hug him around the waist, smiling affectionately when he immediately caved to hug back. While you weren’t ever going to let this go, as having something to hold over your wicked tease of a boyfriend was something to be treasured, you knew things could be a lot worse.

All in all Kuroo was pretty cleanly, and he kept all his mess in one place. Burying your head in his shoulder you noted that you definitely wouldn’t mind living with him someday, and even found yourself looking forward to it.

8/10 He’s got the occasional stray sock, and his desk is a mess, but he’s pretty darn clean!

Average Score?

8/10 Kuroo is pretty close to deity level, far closer than the average man at least!

Can He Cook?

“What’s this?” you asked surprised, as you walked into the house. You’d been working really hard lately, and desperately needed a break. Your boyfriend had noticed, and invited you to come over for dinner, movies and some cuddling, which had sounded spectacular. You’d honestly been looking forward to it all day.

However, when you made it over to his place you were taken aback by the sight of Tanaka as he entered the doorway wearing an apron that read ‘kiss the cook’. It honestly looked like something he’d probably stolen or borrowed from Saeko, but it was surprisingly cute.

When he’d said dinner, you’d fully expected he meant ordering something from somewhere, pizza, takeout, something along those lines. Never in a million years would you have guessed he was going to cook dinner himself. It just hadn’t even occurred to you that he could cook, he just didn’t seem the type. However, judging by the rather lovely smell in the air he could, and rather well at that.

“Did you make dinner?” you asked, unable to help yourself as he ushered you in with a quick hug and a beaming grin, too surprised by it all to not give voice to the question even if the answer was obvious

“Yeah, you’ve been busy and probably eating nothing but junk, so I figured you could use a nice home-cooked meal,” he admitted sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head.

“You didn’t have to go to all the trouble,” you told him, honestly touched that he’d been thinking of you, “But thank you. It smells amazing

“Nothing but the best for my girl!” he told you fervently, a pleased grin on his face.

“I didn’t know you knew how to cook?” you prompted leadingly as the two of you made your way to the kitchen, curious beyond measure.

“Ah well, Saeko-nee said every man should learn how to look after himself, before going out on his own,” he admitted with a chuckle and a sheepish look in your direction as he added, “Said it wasn’t fair to expect a girlfriend or a wife to do all the work and that I should do my own fair share.”

“That sounds like her,” you admitted with a fond smile for the brash, fierce woman, someone you’d met quite frequently and respected and admired a lot for basically raising your boyfriend on her own, “She’s pretty amazing.”

“I guess,” Tanaka admitted, though there was a fond smile on his lips that belied the bland statement, “Anyway, are you hungry? I made plenty!”

The two of you sat down together to enjoy the meal he’d created, and while you were a bit nervous at first, the first bite was enough to sell you on his cooking ability. It wasn’t perfect by any means, a few bits over done here and there, but nothing inedible and most of it quite good.

Enough so that you teased he’d have to cook for you more often. He accepted the challenge with a beaming smile of pride, and told you he’d gladly cook for you any time you liked. Overall it was a fun and delicious experience and you got to learn something new about your sweet boyfriend.

7/10 He Can Cook and Does it Pretty Well!

Can He Clean?

You grimaced a bit as you stared around your boyfriend’s apartment, trying to decide what you wanted to do. Tanaka had recently given you a key to his place, inviting you to come over whenever you felt like it, and you’d decided to take him up on the offer and surprise him. In hindsight this might not have been your best idea.

In your defense you hadn’t realized your boyfriend was a slob, as his apartment had always been immaculately clean when you’d come over before. It made a lot of sense though if you thought about it, of course he cleaned before you came over.

A quick glance around showed it wasn’t too terrible. Sure there were things out of place, a few dirty dishes, and clothing generally strewn about everywhere, but it wasn’t horrible. There weren’t any gross odors or any mold or such that looked like it might become sentient like you’d heard in some of your friends’ horror stories.

Yes, the garbage was overflowing and clearly needed to be taken out, but on the bright side it could be worse. There wasn’t anything that couldn’t be fixed in an hour or two. With that bolstering thought in mind, you immediately set to work, figuring he’d appreciate it at least.

Part way through your cleaning your boyfriend came home. The poor man froze in the doorway glancing between you and his untidy apartment with horror written all over his face.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” he babbled, dropping his bag in the doorway and dashing quickly through his apartment, hastily gathering things that had been strewn about, obviously trying to do a quick clean as he kept babbling, “It’s such a mess! I should’ve cleaned! You don’t need to do that!”

You found his frantic actions rather endearing, and couldn’t help smiling at him as you assured him, “Ryuu, it’s okay, calm down! It’s not that bad I promise!”

“But!” He protested, his arms full of dirty laundry, a dubious expression on his face.

You cut him off with a quick peck to the lips, one that set him blushing and stuttering as usual when you caught him off guard with sweet gestures as you told him, “Don’t worry about it! Let’s get things cleaned up together and then we can hang out and watch movies and cuddle or something okay?”

He immediately agreed, willing as ever to go along with whatever you wanted. You’d said you’d clean together, but it immediately became obvious he was giving you all the easy tasks, something you found incredibly endearing. He rushed around with an almost frantic energy, clearly ready to do anything and everything to ensure you were comfortable in his space.

With his help it didn’t take long before the apartment was completely clean and fresh again, and the two of you settled in for a relaxing date night, comfortable and happy.

5/10 He’s a bit of a slob, but he’ll happily clean-up for you and with you!

July Update!

June Update!

Hey guys! Just wanted to let you know that school is done (for this semester at least)! Yay! Which means I have a bit more time so here's what's coming up (what I've got done and what I'm working on) under the keep reading and in no particular order!
