My theory?? MISTRANSLATION. (Of the english text)

Because after a little bit of digging I found that the German translation for that scene hold more accurately toward the original Japanese text!! 🫵 Where John is ALSO saying “That’s a nice face.”

With this, and with the context of how the word “Face” is used within Shadows House (another term to refer to the Living Dolls, as Faces for their Masters). We can assume that John is NOT complimenting Emilico’s looks, but rather for her capabilities of serving as a Living Doll!
