olddoghaven  This week's Final Refuge Friday Dog is a True Engineer

Field's Final Refuge Mom is amazed by his ingenuity. She says, "FIELDS arrived very very reserved - but maybe being blind in one eye and having compromised vision in the other contributed to  that.  He did perk up when taken out for walks with one of the other ODH Final Refuge dogs in his new home.  He also showed interest when allowed to just roam around in the fenced yard.  But still he seemed not so sure that he was going to be loved, and get to stay for the rest of his life. THEN he discovered that it was OK to dig a full-sized sleeping hole in the back yard chipped area (NOT the flower beds.) And an Engineer was born.

Now every trip outside results in a tune-up to his now cavernous hole, and when it is warm and sunny he crawls in and sleeps soundly for hours at a time." olddoghaven  No a "Shadow" of a doubt this week's Final Refuge Friday dog is one happy guy. "This handsome boy came to us in the middle of April, and he was in rough shape, he had some sores on his body and some cysts and lumps and his fur was coarse and stiff to the touch. Shadow also did not have any vision in his left eye, and not much left in his right eye. We got him to the ophthalmologist and found out that Shadow will lose all eyesight completely due to having Progressive Retinal Atrophy. It did make me a little sad to hear this, but this lovely gentleman was not going to let that stand in his way. He quickly became familiar with his new home, and I was more in love with him each passing day. I am in awe as I watch this beautiful boy make his way around like he had no loss of eyesight. Since Shadow's arrival in April, he has mastered his surroundings like a champ. He has two dog beds of his very own - one for daytime lounging and one for sleeping at night. He loves to be outside laying around in the sunshine, and if it's raining he loves to be inside on his bed. His fur has become so much softer and the sores have healed, and the cysts have been removed. Shadow does have a lot of anxiety, and is very vocal if he can’t get out of the door to go outside. Besides that, he is the most loving young man, and I am so blessed to have him as part of our family." Shadow needs sponsors so we can continue to provide him with the care he needs.
