I've been thinking about alternatives to certain things in canon for my rewrite since I want to downplay Marinette's exaggerated crush behavior to be a bit less hyperbolized, and I was thinking about the Collector where she brings the book back and says that she stole it which makes her look bad to Gabriel and plays her feelings off as being just another fangirl with a crush to him, and instead of that I thought what if she actually told him more of the truth?

So she saw Adrien talking to the new girl in the library, saw her swipe the book then later dump it in the trash, and she was going to tell Adrien about it after lunch, but then Volpina happened and when she came back, Adrien was no longer in school, so when she heard the news that Gabriel was upset about the book, she went digging through the trash to find it so that Adrien could come back to school. This way it makes Marinette look like a concerned friend looking out for Adrien rather than just another obsessed fangirl. And it also makes Gabriel wary of Lila for stealing his book.

Bonus if Gabriel mentions to Adrien that his friend really cared enough for him to go dig through the trash so he could come back to school which begins the turning point for Adrien's feelings getting shifted on their head or at the very least he starts to grow closer to her as a friend.

Playing around with some edits this morning before work cause in my Dogrien AU, Nathalie is Marinette’s aunt, and I’m debating having Marinette favor her Chinese heritage more (brown/dark eyes) since it’s a bit more important in this AU, so I made the three of them with darker hair/brown eyes except Nathalie’s hair can stay bluish cause she dyes it so arguably it’s not her “natural” hair color in this AU. Might play around more later.

Yes, but I'm trying to clear some other wips before really diving into it. Once I finish WYBM(F)L I will likely start on it. Cause it's gonna be a long project. 66 chapters at least. Idk how long each chapter will be yet either. 4k maybe 5? Idk. I'll use origins to beta test.

So, I am working on my rewrite, and it will probably take me most of the week to fully write chapter 1 cause it has to cover all of origins 1 plus the extra stuff I'm adding, so I will try to post a snippet tonight to give you an idea about the tone/direction of this AU.

While in conversation about my dogrien AU, I have development plans overall for the romance aspect of it between Adrien and Marinette:

S1 establishes the beginnings of their friendship from strangers to acquaintances to friends and ends with Adrien starting to consider Marinette differently (the Collector idea).

S2 continues to build on Adrien's increasing admiration for Marinette until Kagami comes along and steals his attention briefly which is resolved at the end of Frozer when Kagami points out that he spent more time on their date chasing after Marinette than he did with her and that she doesn't settle for second place. It also deals with Marinette's conflicted feelings for Adrien and Luka as well as Chat at times. S2 ends with Adrien's heartfelt speech about Marinette being their every day Ladybug and the kissTM and has Adrien realize that he just compared her to the girl that he has been in love with holy fuck.

S3 is still kind of up in the air but will generally deal with Adrien and Marinette juggling their feelings for their respective love interests though Marinette realizes as well that she doesn't return Luka's interest in her in comparison to her feelings for Adrien (which Luka points out and wishes her the best on). Adrien and Marinette generally growing closer as friends and partners (LB and CN) as well as deepening their romantic feelings up until the big reveal at the end because I'm gonna pull the plug at the end of s3 I think. I'm already planning on doing my whole own thing in s3 for this AU, so all this is on top of everything else going on with the plot that I can't say because spoilers. ;)

I am! You can search dogrien AU on my blog and it should pull up posts I've made about it, but in a nutshell, it is an AU I came up with forever ago in like s2 at some point where I was thinking that it's awfully convenient for Hawkmoth that Master Fu sent out the two miraculouses that he needed to accomplish his goal, and I was like lol what if Fu just decided to give him the finger and send out only one of the ones he needed and then give Adrien a different miraculous so even if they fail, he still only has one of the miraculouses that he needs. So this birthed Dogrien because I decided to give him the dog instead of the cat. So the whole fic is basically rewriting a lot of things for what would have happened if he had the dog instead of the cat, and I was like ya know may as well rewrite and fix a lot of issues I had with canon along the way.

I want to start it when s3 is officially over because I am only planning to write through the end of s3 and have that be the end of it because I'm also changing up s3 in its entirety for this fic so yee. I'm hoping to get origins part 1 out this week after Felix airs at some point. I'm going to update that on sporadically until I get through a couple other fics then I will update it more regularly.

I might! I intend to keep playing this evening. Those were just a few I made before work when I only had an hour to really mess with stuff. I mostly just wanted to make them all match to see what it looked like. I wanna try some darker brown eyes, grey eyes, different shades of brown and black hair. Those are by no means final just a first draft of playing around.

Marinette's heritage is more important in this AU, so I wanted to change things up a lot in it. Cause this is literally me throwing canon out the window and doing whatever the hell I want.

Speaking of my rewrite AU, I intend to rewrite that scene. You know the one. Except I'm gonna put it earlier on so the whole subplot of Adrien not thinking he's a good friend to Marinette makes more sense, and I'm also going to decrease the cringe factor by like a billion.

I'm gonna tone Marinette down in general, but in this scene I'm gonna have her comment on how lifelike the statue is and how it's just as handsome as the real deal at which point Adrien turns to her with a cheeky grin and says thanks which spooks her, but ultimately they both laugh it off and no one is fucking humiliated because they got caught being creepy and weird and this little venture will actually be a growing moment for the two of them and not poorly constructed angst.

I'm curious about your rewriting of the MLB canon, could you talk a little more about it please?

Of course!

What would you like to know? The basic premise that started it was less salt at canon cause I've had this idea for a long time like over a year and a half ish? I think it started back in the BB days (miraculous big bang), and we were all chatting about stuff, and I was like ya know it's awfully convenient for Hawkmoth that Master Fu sent out the exact two Miraculouses that he needed, and also rather risky on Fu's part considering if they failed then someone has all of the power in the universe on his side, so I was like what if Fu just decided to give Hawkmoth the finger and send out a whole ass different Miraculous. So he still gives Marinette the Ladybug, but what if he gave Adrien a different one besides the cat just to mess with him? Now there's probably some bullshit balance yin yang reason for sending them both out together but fuck that this is my AU I do what I want, so thus this idea was born where instead of giving Adrien the Cat, he gives him the Dog who is a less experienced kwami, so she and Adrien get to grow and learn together.

So the point of this AU was to see how different situations would be if he had a different Miraculous, but as s2 went on, we started getting more salty so I was like ya know what, if I'm gonna do this bitch, I'm gonna do it how I want and fix some shit, so I went through the episodes and picked out which ones I wanted to do and considered what I wanted to do with certain characters and relationships and plot lines, and I just recently constructed the timeline of sorts and arrangement of the episodes that I want to do, and I have two "seasons" planned, but they are a mix of canon seasons 1-3 cause I took some liberties in organizing them in a way that makes the story make sense for the rewrite not for canon order.

Somethings I wanted to do with this AU were have Adrien get to grow, so he starts out very naive and sheltered as I feel he should be because a big point of his character is that he *is*. So he makes a lot of mistakes and social blunders early on until he learns to be more well adjusted. His view of the world is very idealistic and taken mostly from movies and anime, and people have to constantly remind him that the real world is much different.

Another thing I want to tackle is an actual Chloe redemption. Because my God, canon. So Chloe will actually get a fair shot to change and become better and a worthy hero.

I also wanted to figure out a way to include Marinette in the plot more, so in this story Nathalie is actually her aunt who works for Gabriel, and it was Nathalie sending her one of Gabriel's design books for her birthday one year that sparked Marinette's interest in fashion and Gabriel's brand. Nathalie in this story is still helping Gabriel for love, but it's for the love of her dead husband whom Gabriel has promised to bring back if he succeeds in exchange for her help. She is also still the first to meet Fu, and the one to pass out the Miraculouses, though she will share with Chien (dog!chat) who she picks instead of keeping it secret.

I intend to introduce the love rivals better, and there will also be less jealousy plots. And the ones that do make it in will fizzle out over time or resolve themselves eventually, the main one being Kagami and Marinette.

I'm still debating what to do with Lila whether I want to expose her after Chameleon (which takes place in early s2 now after the collector) and have her fade into the background, or if I want to only expose her to Alya who then has Marinette's back while Lila slips around everyone else, and if in either of those combinations I want to have her help Hawkmoth eventually or not.

Which brings me to another point, I moved Lila's plot up earlier before a lot of the big classmate moments so that it's a bit more believable why the class wouldn't be super on Marinette's side yet because they've yet to experience some of their more poignant moments together (zombizou, befana, Mayura). So you should theoretically be less pissed at them and then they get a chance to redeem themselves later.

I don't want to say too much, but yeah that's some stuff that has been cooking in my brain. If you guys want, I can share the order I came up with for the episodes to maybe give you an idea for the direction of the story and some characters but it might also confuse you for why I put some episodes where, but just know that I have a plan. ;)

Currently I have two seasons planned, and I have plans for how to continue afterward, but I'm thinking I might make my own canon after that and only pull in actual canon episodes occasionally if I like them and can fit them into the mold of the story cause with what I have planned at the end of s2, canon doesn't exactly fit anymore, but we will see what s3 brings the rest of this year. This story is gonna be a long one. Each "season" is gonna have 22 episodes (at least s1 and s2 do). I don't know how long I will drag it on. Might make s3 the final season, but that will depend on what future seasons bring cause I feel like by the time I get to s3 in writing we will be well into s4 maybe even s5 in canon depending on how slowly they air the episodes. Let me know if you have anything else you're curious about with it. I don't want to spoil big plot details since I am deviating from canon quite a bit, but if you have some generic questions I'm happy to chat about it! It helps me brain storm.

I’m pumped for your rewrite. I’m so glad you’ve got something that excites you to write, and makes you happy, because at the end of the day, no matter how good or bad your writing is, if it made you happy to write it’s the best thing in the world

I have a lot of ideas and it's just fun to change stuff about canon and do it differently. I've already plotted through Origins, Bubbler, and Lady Wifi, and I have loose ideas for later episodes like Riposte, Puppeteer 2.0 (which I'm including way earlier in the timeline in s1) as well as a few others. I'm gonna give Chloe a real redemption arc, take down Lila early on and let her be more than just a plot device, Marinette is gonna have a tie into the plot as well, and I'm just excited to change things and make them less nonsensical and contradictory and actually flow. This is going to be a big project, 22-23 episodes in each "season" for 3 seasons. I'm gonna end it after s3 cause I'm totally changing s3 in this AU since I've pulled several of the episodes into earlier seasons, and I'm excited for what I have planned. I want to share all about it, but you will all just have to wait and see. ;)

Now that MDCSP is wrapping up I'm diving into my Dogrien/rewrite AU planning. This is incidentally going to be a very Adrinette heavy AU because I am a tool, but ya know I'm not complaining. I've got Origins and Bubbler plotted so far, and I've started origins part 1 forever ago. I'm looking forward to this one cause I have plans. Hoping to start this one toward the end of September if I can finish up Marinette and the Lost Temple by then.

Hey, another thing came to me pertaining to Dogdrien while I was with my dog. I’ve seen fics where Adrien starts craving fish and other meats since wearing the ring, and I was wondering if, for Adrien in this AU, he gets some weird cravings? Like craving peanut butter? Which would be especially weird since I’m pretty sure non Americans don’t really like peanut butter?

Lol, I’ll have to think about what I want his tendencies to be if they’re even that prominent. It will depend. They likely won’t be super prevalent to the story, but just extra little things added in for fun every now and then in episodes like Animan or Prime Queen where they were in canon.

Wip Wednesday

It's Wednesday, my dudes, so that means it's time for what the hell does Cat have going on in her brain? This week's installment: Rewrite/Dogrien AU

I've talked a little bit about it before, you can search dogrien AU in my tags, but I wanted to talk a little more about it and some things that I'm changing from canon.

The first and most obvious change is that Adrien is now a dog superhero instead of a cat. His hero name is Chien D'or (golden dog), and his kwami's name is Woof. (Because Woof is already a double letter, Thomas wtf? Barkk??) He's every bit as dorky as he is as Chat Noir and his hero persona is more exaggerated at first because Adrien is very naive and sheltered and thinks that that's how a hero should behave, but over time he gets more serious and grows into his role a little more. He retains some of his Chat persona later on cracking puns and being charming, but with less of the problematic aspects of Chat. Jealousy and pouting will be issues early on, but he doesn't get away with them and grows out of them. This fic has a lot of character growth all around, and I wanted Adrien to get some especially because canon never allows it.

Another big thing about this AU is that I've decided to have an actual honest to God timeline and order and linear plot progression. Seasons 1 and 2 take place over the course of a year, and the characters are all in troisieme making it their last year of college. So, "s3" will bring them into lycee which is only one of the reasons that I'm constructing my own story for s3 and beyond because it no longer fits the scheme of canon. Up until that point some things still loosely follow canon as far as episodes and events I just handle them differently, but after that I'm only going to pull episodes every now and then. I will share my timeline in another post after this one cause it'll be long.

For Marinette I will be giving her a tie into the plot through Nathalie (her aunt in this story) as well as something else you'll see later when it comes out. I also want to take her development a little slower. It takes her time to work into her confidence as Ladybug and overcome her insecurities and self-doubt which Alya and Tikki help her with. She will be less stalkerish when it comes to Adrien, and her bumbling will get better with time as will her jealousy. Kagami will be her main rival for Adrien as Lila will back off after Chameleon since she doesn't actually know him just that he's famous but him knowing her secret will put her off from pursuing him. She and Kagami's rivalry will ebb over time and dissolve by the end of s2 when they finally get to talk things out and realize that everything was a misunderstanding. After that point they become friends and Marinette helps her get to know other people besides Adrien and come out of her shell a little more.

All of the other characters and classmates are going to be major overhauls in their episodes and get chances to grow. The chosen heroes (which for now will just be the main 5) will all be developed and not just fade into the background. The love rivals will get handled better, I'll likely remove the whole power up feature of the miraculouses that need a separate transformation and instead just make the miraculouses adaptable to multiple types of terrain automatically. The timer thing is going to be experienced based so their timer runs shorter in the beginning then extends over time as they get better. I'm still debating ships and things for some characters. Obvs the love square is still gonna be endgame, but I'm going to develop it better.
