Dog Man movie theory/speculation
Okay so I wanted to talk about a little theory/prediction I have for the movie and some things I noticed in the trailer and merchandise.
This is all just stuff that I've inferred from promotional material but I'll put it under the cut anyway just in case you don't want potential spoilers (and also so it doesn't take up too much space on the dash)
So I was out doing some shopping today and had some money leftover and decided to buy myself that new Petey action figure for the movie
Tumblr media
It comes with Petey himself obviously and also various extra accessories and things, typical action figure stuff
One of the extras it comes with is a whiteboard showing some of Petey's evil plans to defeat Dogman. On one side it has 80-HD and on the other it was a grid of a bunch of other plans that he's tried, like the giant vacuum cleaner, the squirrel tank, cloning... All things we've either seen in the trailers or know from the books. But one "plan" that caught me off guard was the drawing of Flippy labelled "Mecha Flippy"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now obviously Flippy is going to be a character in this movie, that's not a secret. There's shots of him (albeit dead) in the trailer. He's going to be an antagonist and most likely the greater evil that Dogman and Petey have to team up to defeat in the end. I think we all know that
But what's interesting is that this detail on Petey's whiteboard seems to imply that Mecha Flippy was Petey's doing? Which is frankly a WILD lore drop to get from a random promotional toy
My theory is that the movie is going to have Petey be the one to bring Flippy back to life, rather than it happening on accident like in the book. He wants to use Flippy to help him defeat Dogman, but this backfires when Flippy turns out to be far more powerful and far more evil than Petey intended, causing Petey to switch sides and help Dogman stop him instead (possibly because Flippy tries to hurt Li'l Petey like in the book?)
I also just remembered this scene in the trailer where Dogman is supposed to be watching the security cameras of some kind of science facility, one of them showing a dead Flippy in a fishbowl, and the second he turns away Petey breaks in
Tumblr media
If my theory about Petey being the one to revive Flippy is correct then this scene makes a lot of sense; Petey is breaking in to the science lab where Flippy is being kept to steal his corpse and bring him back to life later as part of an evil plan
I think this story direction also makes a lot of sense if this happens after Petey's cloning plan fails. He ditches Li'l Petey but still wants a partner in crime to help him take down Dogman, so he brings Flippy, the world's most evil butterfly fish, back to life to hopefully recruit into his plan to destroy all do-gooders
I have so many more little theories and speculations about the movie that I'll probably post in the next couple days before the movie comes out (I want to make a bingo card), but this detail on the action figure was so exciting to me that I just HAD to post my thoughts about it right now because I don't think I've seen anyone else talk about this

hello dogman! i am analysing your backgrounds in dialtown for a project and i am trying to prove a point to a teacher so
is the movie theatre red for a specific reason?
dumb question i know but i need to know
Oh, it's colour theory. Dialtown uses different palettes for the various backgrounds. Most of the nature areas are blue, the carnival is generally green/purple and a lot of the locations tied to the cast have palettes that relate to those characters.
For instance, a lot of the backgrounds in Randy's route (the dumpster, the street shots, subway) are blue, the cinema is red (like Mr Dickens and Oliver), the Mayor's office is purple, the bank's palette is autumnal (like Karen), etc.

Huh
When you sandwich the Minecraft movie trailer between the Sonic 3 and Dogman trailers, then you're kinda fucked
Film theory also pretty much figured out what exactly is gonna happen in this movie and it mainly comes in the form of the very particular and very expensive choice of song being Magical Mystery Tour by the Beatles, which, if you don't know, is about drugs and "going to another place"
So it's just gonna be an isekai
Seeing how they react to the sheep, the floating block and them being humans in a game world just gives off the impression that Minecraft doesn't exist in their world so they got Isekaied
It also doesn't look great for Warner Bros. I mean. Do I have to remind y'all about Wile e Coyote Vs ACME?
Sonic 3 and Dogman look fucking fantastic and then there's Minecraft. Oh god. Personally, I don't mind the designs of the mobs and world, sure it looks AI generated and it just "Minecraft in real life" but it isn't that bad. It's just the out of place humans and the possible isekai plot. People have made bingos for this shit, that's how predictable Warner Bros is

THAT WAS PEAK THAT WAS PEAK THAT WAS PEAK
Tw spoilers for the dogman movie under:
Okay first, congrats on the doctor for the transition, saying this because the doctor was male in the books but is a girl in the movie, go congrats girlboss
Second, FLIPPYS BRITISH??? OR HAS A BRITISH ACCENT??? LOVED HOW THE ANIMATED HIM BUT THAT WAS A COMPLETE SURPISE FOR MS
Third, HOLY SHIT I WASN'T EXPECTING DOGMAN ANGST?? IN MY KIDS MOVIE??? AND HE HAD A GIRLFRIEND BEFORE THE BOMB??? MY JAW DROPPED WHEN HE MENTIONED HER. THE ANGST. OMG THE ANGST
Fourth, I know they can't fit all characters and don't know if they'll have a 2nd movie, but the dad plot went a bit too fast. Would've made the whole "You also abandoned me. And I forgave you..." scene from lil Petey matter more since Petey would be a different person and grown out of his old ways, but they also probably didn't know when they would have a second movie, so thats forgivable. Also, they didn't include my goat YoLay, unfortunately... I hope she's in the second movie if its even for a second, if the movie doesn't bomb
And fifth, Sarah had like a huge change in appearance. She's ginger and is wearing completely clothes unlike her in the books having brown hair and wearing a red dress. Im not complaining tho, happy they kept her Australian accent! Still sad ZuZu only showed up a few times, but she's still there so that's good
Also I JUST noticed this. Color theory. You know how Blue and Orange are opposites on the color wheel? Dogman is blue. And Petey is Orange. They're complete opposites with Petey being a criminal and Dogman a police officer. This works with their characters since they're so different from each other just personality wise. How did I just notice this?
Anyway. This is peak. I will be buying merch.

What is my muse’s reaction to hearing an odd noise at night? What is my muse’s favorite monster/cryptid? ( for both please )
𝕄𝕠𝕟𝕤𝕥𝕖𝕣 𝔸𝕤𝕜𝕤
What is my muse’s reaction to hearing an odd noise at night?
Android: To investigate it. His undying curiosity won’t let him rest until he finds out what it is.
Human: To investigate it. However, he has seen enough horror movies to know when something is not his department’. He’s not going to let himself get killed by some ghost or alien. Not going to be made into a slave by a demon. Nope.
What is my muse’s favorite monster/cryptid?
Android: He hasn’t been exposed to much in the way of monsters or cryptids yet, so far only hearing about the classic monsters, along with Bigfoot and the Mothman. His favorite would currently have to be Frankenstein’s monster. He never asked to exist, yet he was hated for it like it was his fault. It’s hard not to relate to that.
Human: Growing up in Michigan, Connor has heard his fair share of cryptids. From Pressie in Lake Superior, Melon Heads of Saugatuck, to the Nain Rouge here in Detroit, but Connor always liked the Michigan Dogman. There’s a lot of theories as to what it could possibly be, but he always liked to think of it as the spirit of a Native American shaman.

Vampire, Witch, Graveyard, Werewolf
Vampire: What is your favorite supernatural creature?
Gosh, I love so many! Probably witches or fairies. I also especially love mermaids, werewolves (I blame Teen Wolf), and ghosts if they’re like the nice ones, you know?
Witch: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Super speed! You can do so many things with it!! Help or save people, control certain weather or natural events, time travel, like anything they do with it on The Flash. Or healing. I would also love the ability to heal people.
Graveyard: Do you know any good scary stories?
I probably know quite a few but I don’t know if they’d be scary to anyone else. I remember a handful of scary stories from this book I checked out from the library in elementary school that kept me up late every night for like a month after I returned the book. Or even some stories that I could recount from chain emails in middle school that scared the shit out of me then but looking back on them now I realize made no sense at all.
Like one email was this story where this babysitter put the kids to bed then went into the parents’ room to watch TV until they got home. They had a clown statue in their bedroom, and it creeped her out, so she called them to ask if she could cover it up. Their response was, “Get the kids out of the house right now. We don’t have a clown statue.” And I’m pretty sure the last line was something about how by the time the parents got home, the babysitter and the kids were either missing or dead. That haunted my thoughts for so long. But like, why dressed as a clown? Why hide as a statue in a bedroom? Why wait for the girl to make the phone call? Why call to ask about covering the “statue” up instead of just putting a towel over it and taking it off when the parents get home?
Also I watch a LOT of cop shows so a lot of realistic scary stories come from those.
Werewolf: What is your favorite urban legend?
On a quick side note, last time, you asked about urban legends where I live and I didn’t have any off the top of my head. I just Googled some. Apparently my state has like this huge “dogman” legend that I’ve never heard of? There are also apparently some light house legends because we have a lot of light houses in the state. And we have our own small-scale version of the Bermuda Triangle. And our own version of the Loch Ness Monster! Dude, I’ve been missing out on so many legends!!
I guess I don’t really know what my favorite is because I don’t exactly know how to differentiate between urban legends and other things that are similar. Strictly an urban legend, I’m fascinated by the concept of the vanishing hitchhiker, I think mostly because in that movie, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, they flip the legend and make the driver the ghost and that was my introduction to the legend and I thought that was so cool.
This is probably more of a conspiracy theory but I love the whole concept of the Mandela effect, where large groups of people swear something is one way despite it not being true, named after the widespread belief that Mandela died in prison in the 90s when he didn’t. My favorite of that, I think, is the Berenstain Bears one. A lot of people swear that the family’s last name is spelled Berenstein and they (we, actually, because I was totally one of these people) swear they can remember looking at the book covers as kids and seeing it spelled that way. But supposedly it’s always been spelled Berenstain. There’s a theory that we’re in a different timeline, maybe that we went into when the world was supposed to end in 2012, so in our original timeline it was Berenstein but in this current timeline it’s Berenstain. I don’t actually necessary believe that, I just love the idea.

Eyes In the Dark 2010
Tumblr media
Grade B
Well, it’s more found footage, but amazingly this one actually has a plot. I honestly didn't pay a ton of attention to the part with two scientist guys in the beginning, but the rest was good.
The Plot:
It’s not all in sequence, but here we go:
Some 20-30 year old “college students” are going out into the middle of nowhere to stay in a cabin. The cabin is run by a creepy guy who warns them not to do stupid things. The “young people” go for a hike, find a cave and take one of the cool, obviously important rocks they find because of course they do. Well, it turns out that this set of cool rocks were part of a mystical barrier that kept a bunch of evil werewolf like creatures from eating people. The creatures then get out and begin eating everyone. This is where the other parts of the film take place, with some innocent scientists and the entire search party also being eaten. It ends ona bleak note of every character being dead and the creatures being loose.
You may question why I included this in a list of Bigfoot movies, well that is because I was bamboozled by the YouTube description that tagged this as a Bigfoot movie. That being said, with how little we actually see of the creatures, and the theory that there are different types of Bigfoot (classic, neanderthal, wolfman, baboon faced) allows for a loose interpretation of what Bigfoot looks like.
Live thoughts:
Variety!
Instead of one story you get multiple related pieces of found footage.
Acting is decent, camera work is suitably and realistically amateurish, people fumble their lines a slightly when their talking, but keep going. kind of like how people do in real life. (scripted dialogue moves much better than real life dialogue)
It is also framed as a review of evidence in an FBI case, so you don't automatically know that everyone is already dead. I don't know about you but if I go into a movie knowing that there are no survivors, I have a harder time caring. They're all just meat for the monster.
But if you know that there is at least one survivor, you can root for someone.
Actors look different enough that you can tell them apart.
i do have to wonder though, why are they bringing the beer in piecemeal? Also, if they have the beer taking up that much cargo space, where was all the rest of their stuff?
The face when Dean is attacked looks like a basic gorilla mask
Yay! someone has a gun!
Why would anyone want to split off from the one guy who has a gun?
When the old guy is grabbed it looks more like a dogman than a Bigfoot
That was the worst proposal ever
surviving guy is way to emotionless delivering his list of dead friends
At least it's not evil locals this time.
How many shells did that shotgun supposedly hold?
Man it just sucks to be that Ranger
Why did the monster turn off the camera?
Oh look, Josh isn't dead!
Wait, nevermind.
Decently acted, different structure to a standard found footage kept it feeling fresh. Unfortunately there wasn't a good look at the creatures, but subsequent shots look better than the first look. In thought this was going to be a Bigfoot movie, and I am still going to count it as one since they look enough like the “dogman” variant. I am also giving them credit for not showing a cheap suit just so we could have the full body shot.
