I'm not going to be able to write my typical long rambles for a bit (need to catch up on important work), but here's a short list of things I wanna talk about with the latest canto.
Spoilers, of course.
The entire Canto taking place after the ending of Don Quixote (the first Don, I will not call him the Actual Don because our Don is as much Don Quixote as he is) is not something I expected, but makes so much sense and made for a wonderful story. There are themes of identity, struggling to live under a broken system and GOD THE FAMILIAL TIES. THE FIGHT AGAINST THE TWO MIDBOSSES + THE PRIEST HAD SUCH MAGNIFICENT STORY BUILD UP. AND THE PRIEST'S ENTIRE MOVESET. UGGGH I WANNA TALK ABOTU IT
Hey. Outis. What did you mean by that. We all know what I'm talking about, right? This is the first time I know of that she's actually given even a smidge of info about herself somewhat directly. Somewhat. Everything else is just in how she knows things and acts. Here she is asking a very specific question and god, I need to know more about her now.
Good job Sinclair. And everyone else. But good job Sinclair.
Vergilius with Sanson's face/mask is cursed.
I continue to feel so so bad for the Bloodfiends. They did the best they could in a world that gave them only two horrible options. I couldn't help but compare La Manchaland to the Tokyo Ghoul:RE ending, because the hemobars reminded me of the artificial meat, except in TG:RE it worked and here, well. We saw how that went. I think it's a great idea to start with the after of their solution; this isn't a situation with a possible solution, they tried that and failed. Who knows if there is one that works? Does it matter now that they're all dead?
I'm going to be very weird about Camille once this is all said and done, but I do want to note that the pretty boy being turned into a flower and having a name very clearly gotten from Carmilla the flower (and maybe the book? Haven't read it yet so idk if he's taken from there) is very cheeky. I still wish I could've besting him up myself. This isn't me critiquing the writing, this is me being weird.
The QTE in the ending cutscene of the boss fight was cool and really added to the feeling of fighting against and overcoming a clearly superior foe.
I wanna hug Don Quixote the First. He's such a ray of sunshine and deserved better. Even if he was somewhat delusional, at least he genuinely cared for his family.
What happened to Hong Lu's sister? Did she just vanish? I didn't notice until later on, so I'll probably need to go back and check myself.
Bari is the Librarian of Death (edit: Nameless Bookhunter, thanks for the correction AE)? Idfk and idc for now. If Bari ends up showing up again or a moot of mine decides they wanna talk about it, maybe I'll look into it.
The familial themes here are most certainly also going to be related to Hong Lu's story, which once more is a reason I really should get to reading all the books for this game.
Ryoshu accepting death from the possibility of fighting Don Qui the second was really funny.
The abno fights here are really good, and I love how Limbus is making unbreakable coins the standard from now on. Makes it so you can't just blaze through fights taking no damage, and these battles genuinely feel difficult. That's good. Their designs and mechanics are also pretty easy to understand and match with their ego gifts pretty well. God I wish we had more Rupture ids that could stack as much count as the Lasso abno.
Sancho fight was cool as hell. The clashable 10 speed skill was so good and made it feel like a massive improvement on the Cassetti fight. So good. On use coin power did mess me up a little given it doesn't show up in the clash numbers, but that was on me for not reading tbh.
Fun fact: final boss can be Meatlantern soloed really easily. So easy in fact that that's how I cleared it. Doing it with a full team didn't end well for me. The solo's also really consistent, which is nice.
Mili song is really good. As usual. I need to go listen to it again. I need an in-game mix. I need it. The childishness of Sancho's side of the tune compared with the seriousness of first Don's side is lovely.
Also. Please, in the final clash where you use Don's base ego. I hope you looked at the name of the ego and the name of Don the First's attack. Please. It's such a good detail. And it's so much better when you remember that Sancho was always the one making weapons for Don. He calls Sancho's lances much more graceful than his. It's so lovely. You can tell these two genuinely love each other. It's so good.
Also the fact that basically every fixer we went in with got wiped out by weakened Bloodfiends really shows just how powerful these bloodfiends are. Camille had to resort to using ego gear to survive. Sheesh.
That'll be all for now. Expect a long ramble on any of these points when I'm more free, aka never.

"you only live twice" by drift99 is also really good, it's wolfstar, jily (jegulily later on ehehe), polyamory time travel bullshit (literally my favourite kind of bullshit). remus and hermione saving the world, underrated friendship tbh [completed, 47 chapters, 95k words]
"anti-hero" by rweoutofthewoods has jegulus, wolfstar, bamf regulus, moonwater friendship!!! regulus fakes his death, but remus finds him. platonic soulmates istg. also has marylily but it doesn't end well for them :((… [completed, 41 chapters, 237k words]
"dear your holiness" by mollymarymarie is basically, at it's barest bones, a wolfstar fleabag au. priest remus lupin, modern au, sorta-partly-kinda texting fic, very very sacrilegious, and a happy ending! [completed, 12 chapters, 142k words]
"saccharine" by moonymoment is a sweet little (maybe not little, but shorter than my usual 100k+ word fics) wolfstar modern ghost au! background jily, happy ending, basically sirius is a ghost that haunts remus' apartment and its really domestic
if you've read any/all of these pls lmk what you think i love to talk about the marauders
OMG HIIII
I also only use ao3 so don't you even worry 😭 ao3 is my baby I live there
THIS IS PERFECT TIMING bc i started only the brave last year big for some reason stopped? Idk if it was school work or something but I've been telling myself that this summer im gonna read it all the way through because I remember loving the writing and the story so I can't wait to sit and get all the way through it again. I've already seen so many spoilers but I'm gonna pretend I haven't 💀
I've been subscribed to the golden king since Reg's first Diagon trip and it LOVE IT SO MUCH 😭 the bond with Harry, the relationship with Sirius creeping back, the entire MESS with James. I love it. So good.
Okay about like real people do 😭 I SWEAR I MUST HAVE READ IT???? I love time-travel and I love Jegulus and I love long fics....and I SWEAR it rings a bell in my mind so tell me why I just went over to ao3 to double check and I literally cannot remember it 😞 maybe I read a bit then lost the tab???? Or started smth else and forgot to go back???? Either way it's going back onto the tbr bc why the hell would I not have read it all that's insane. Thank you for reviving my pea-memory so I can come back to this one 🙏
I LOVE ANTI HERO SO SO MUCH DUDE like I remember reading it last year and not putting my phone down until it was done, it's a PROBLEM. Whenever I think about reg lives I think about that even when I've read so many others with the concept it's just so...AAAAA. The desert scene of forever stuck in my mind for some reason idk 😭
I personally will probably not read the others (the people who know my blog could smell this coming, I see you) because wolfstar and jily aren't really my thing anymore (I dealt with a few elitist/aggressive fans over the years which has unfortunately just completely put me off being able to enjoy any content for them anymore :( still makes me sad icl) but!! I will tag it with them so all the people who DO love them can see these recs and go and read them if they haven't already because the premises look SO cool

hey
if this doesn't bother you, can you please loredump about your stp voices
like, noooo I'm not here to steal ideas, why in the world would I ever do that
still, I am curious
bonus if you can talk about your ships
Honey, nothing is original anymore/hj
But I plan to have a whole ass au for my version of stp, which changes the voices and princesses. If you want to wait for that, you can stay tuned.
If not. I guess I can go more into my voice ships.
- Stubtunist: this started As a joke, but as I learned about myself: once a joke happens, it sticks. My version of Stubborn lives by KISS (Keep it Simple, Stupid), is Aussie-coded and INCREDIBLY strong. A guy like him would make for easy target for Oppy to weasel into for that extra protection. But overtime, Oppy's attitude changed significantly. Think of it like your Smittunist, except Stubborn is aware he wasn't being genuine, at first. Once Oppy makes an effort to do better, he was one of the first to accept his apology and ended up being his hype man/trainer. My version of Oppy tends to let analytics take over his brain (so he can think who to side with on the fly), to which Stubborn will literally knock him out of it, and keep him on the "not-so-straight-but-good-enough" road. Hell, Stubborn being so open and readable reassured Oppy since he doesn't need to pretend or be afraid of him. If he's upset, he'd let him know.
- CheatBroken: My version of these 2 are different. For one, both are disabled due to the princesses (Fury and Wild, respectively), and they are also girls, so this is Sapphic as shit. Just 2 people with varying degree of "I'm done with the world" getting together to bitch and moan, until something akin to mutual affection forms. They can understand each other physically and mentally, and that makes it so they are the comfort pillow and wake up call both needed. Neither want their attitude to drag the other down, and can recognize the signs of a mental spiral to wake em out of it. There really isn't anything too deep with em, they just happened as a joke (this is a problem/j)
- HeroCold (and basically everyone tbh): oh...them. I don't hate them, mind you. But this is pure crack, from the outside perspective. My Cold shows signs of depression and does the bare minimum to keep himself alive (not that he needs to, but it's a pain to listen to Hero rant about his "health" so he keeps it up). His care for the others are as muted as canon Cold. The only difference is that he has slightly more sympathy. When Hero is stressed from making sure everyone is OK, he is there to offer coffee that he always has. He talks Paranoid out of his own fears, he gets Smitten to tone back on the love poems, he gets Stubborn to stop punching the Wall, and so on. The reason HeroCold is the main ship is bc they somehow became the "parents" of this dysfunctional family. But that's not saying a lot, as they themselves are complicated.
- Smittunist: you must be familiar with this one ;). But mine is slightly different. Mainly, the dynamic is reverse. Instead of Oppy being jealous of the Princess, it's Smitten that's jealous. His main princess of devotion is the Tower, someone who, while appreciative of his company, is incapable of reciprocating his romantic feelings. She sees him as a disciple or priest or whatever, not a "lover". Meanwhile, Oppy has a girlfriend in the Thorn (the princesses are all poly too, your honor), who they treat with tenderness, even if their personalities clash. Sometimes they fight, make out, or just casually exist around each other. But it's REAL, it's DOMESTIC, and by GOD, if Smitten's heart craved it. He of course, never admits it out loud. To be loved by his Goddess is more than enough, why should he be greedy and think about another woman's man's man woman?! Meanwhile, Oppy picked up thst Smitten is faking his emotions (takes one to know one, and all) and since he still has to rebuild bridges, he and Thorn are on their own in deciphering what's wrong with their resident love bird.
And that's all for now!! I have more dynamics in between voices, but these are the ones I thought the most about. If you are OK with more dispersed thoughts on other ships, I am willing to put em here. ContraHero for one is smth I would want an excuse to think more about ;)
#mai talks#mai answers#neverpathia#main rambles#slay the princess#stp voices#herocold#cheatbroke#stubtunist#smittunist#((oh i haven't gotten into contrahero!!))#((well shit))#((AND I FORGOT ABOUT SKEPTICNIGHTMARE))#((SHIT))

so dany is tptwp but why do they feel the need to rectify that in the show 😭
i’m 99% sure dany’s going to have a religious fanatic arc in the books
I'm putting these together because they're kind of related. also i don't want to tag for hotd spoilers because i don't want to invite weird anons to find this or weirdos to screenshot my url so be warned i'm talking about the leaks and my dark dany theories in this one. okay-
So first of all...yes, this is why people compare her to Paul Atreides or even Anakin Skywalker in that the concept of being a Chosen One is going to go to her head in a very bad way and it's going to be a huge part of her story going forward. We're all set for this in the books tbh. We have several schisms happening in the R'hollor faith with people already saying she's a savior, and the fact that R'holloric magic works similar to Valyrian magic (ie uses a lot of fire and blood) is not lost on me. There's several prophecies centered around this Promised Hero In The Face Of The Long Night and Dany is linked to several of them; most notably The Prince That Was Promised and The Stallion Who Mounts The World, but now we have this Azor Ahai connection with the R'hollor priests coming out in support of Dany. And what's more is that Dany is primed to believe in all of this stuff - she hatched dragons and the bleeding star showed up with haste, she's had first the HOTU visions and then Quaithe's warning not to mention the whole Stallion scene and her own weird fever dream-prophecies. There's a whole city state of people who call her MOTHER. Oh yeah, she is ready to take a dive head first into being the Chosen One and make that the center point of her entire campaign. Especially imo after Stannis dies and there's this vacuum of who gets to be the insane "i have the divine right" person; Jon Snow doesn't even want to acknowledge he can warg he is not going to encourage any sort of prophecy shenanigans, and I think that opens the door for a) Dany to step into that role and b) for the followers of R'hollor sans Melisandre to see Dany as their messiah.
The problem in the original show is that they bring this up and then just kind of...drop it. When in the books - whether she is killed by Jon/Arya or ultimately pulls a Nettles - this isn't going to be a positive thing. I've seen some people describe these prophecies - The Stallion, The Prince, Azor Ahai - as warnings rather than prophecies, but to be honest, aren't all prophecies warnings of the future? The thing is the warning isn't just the Long Night, it's about The Actual Prince. Look to the Stallion prophecy-
As swift as the wind he rides, and behind him his khalasar covers the earth, men without number, with arakhs shining in their hands like blades of razor grass. Fierce as a storm this prince will be. His enemies will tremble before him, and their wives will weep tears of blood and rend their flesh in grief. The bells in his hair will sing his coming, and the milk men in the stone tents will fear his name." The old woman trembled and looked at Dany almost as if she were afraid. "The prince is riding, and he shall be the stallion who mounts the world."
I think the prophecy, the dream, the vision, the warning, the legend, whatever you want to call it, is warning that as the Long Night happens, a savior will emerge...but they are a false messiah. They will not bring an end to the Long Night, they will only create more destruction. But the people who had these prophecies focused on Bad Thing Happens -> Powerful Person Emerges From The Ashes and took that mean the powerful person will stop the bad things and not exacerbate the bad things and distract from the original problem.
Now I think part of why D&D did the ending Like That is a) they're lazy as shit and b) Dany took off as a character and they had no idea how to reign it in so they just like....didn't. I think there's plenty of evidence in the show that Dany was going to take a Stannis esque turn but depicting that was too much trouble (think about how they cut all her most banger lines because that would involve trying to get her introspective thoughts into dialogue somehow. instead of figuring it out, they just lazily cut it all out. i still can't believe these dudes got handed this IP when they clearly don't care about the themes, it makes me fucking weep. like, filoni and abrams really fucked up star wars but i think it's clear they like star wars ya know? i don't think d&d really like this series that much, not in the way condal & hess seem to) so they just short cutted to that bells scene which was fairly lazy. Her fall from grace is going to be so much slower, so much more complex, and so much more heart breaking than what was in the show. And a large part of this will center around seeing herself as a messiah to the Poor And Downtrod.
And this fall (again....I don't think it’s out of the realm of possibility that Dany snaps out of it somehow - George has hinted we're going to dig more into the magic and how it works, and perhaps there will be some revelations on the exact nature of what The Promised Prince really is that makes Dany finally reflect on her journey instead of refusing to look back, and fuck off into the Great Unknown in an attempt to erase herself from the narrative others have written for her and write her own at last. I'm serious when I say I think that's about as likely as Jon/Arya killing her after she burns KL). this fall of hers is the crux of the entire series. It's where everything is leading to, this realization that there is no promised prince coming to save anyone, it is the climax of every single story in the books. And we know Condal fucking LOVES that idea because he's been out here in interviews talking about Dark Dany since season 6 iirc but potentially even earlier. I think Condal really loves a tragic evil queen and a fall from grace and he didn't like the way they did Dany's descent. Not only that but I do think the prophecy aspect is fascinating to Condal.
The problem with all of this is like.......you can't rewrite the ending of GOT to have that aspect of the story as much as he wishes he could. You can't rewrite GOT so it had 12 seasons instead of 8. I think what he wants to do is really hint at the prophecies in the future and play with the concept of prophecy being untrustworthy but he's been boxed into this weird corner where interacting with the main story line of the books/the main show is nearly impossible because everyone hated it and george will never finish the books but this prophecy affected much more than we realize and also, He Likes It, he thinks it makes for a richer story. IDK how he fixes this, IDK where he goes from here, because having Daemon have a vision of Dany hatching eggs and realizing the prophecy was right, they DO need a Targ on the throne because a Targ will save Westeros IS imo a really interesting change that more or less fits with the story in F&B. BUT it looks like pandering, and it doesn't engage with the ultimate end game which is that Dany is not going to be happy with being the Chosen One. It's not a gift, it's not even a responsibility, it's a horror she's being forced to take up that could eat her alive. How do you even engage with those themes when the original show went Like That?

Meet Aponia!
The basic information:
Aponia is a well-shaped woman around 24-25 years old. She lives in the Darkness Castle, and works as Angst's assistant, managing the kingdom's finances and social issues together.
She's 5'10 feet tall, quiet and going with the flow, has body dysphoria, and is afraid of fire.
Backstory:
Aponia was the daughter of a corrupted priest, who believed she was a witch and made numerous attempts to exorcise and baptize the "evilness" out of her. This resulted in severe physical abuse, thus why Aponia's body is covered in scars she refuses to let anyone see.
Not much is known about her mother, as her father never mentioned her to Aponia.
At the age of 18, her father gathered the townspeople and attempted to burn his daughter at the stake. In front of the eyes of many other people who screamed and shouted hateful words.
Fortunately for Aponia, her cries and screams for help were heard by Alphonse, who was nearby and saw the commotion. He saved her before it was too late, and killed her father and some of the townspeople while the rest escaped.
Aponia was taken in to live in the castle with the royal family, and was assigned as Angst's assistant.
Abilities:
-Night vision -Future visions
-Hypnosis -Hand-to-hand combat skills
-Can control earth and water -Good at archery
Her opinion on the people she knows:
-Corrupted Nightmare/Alphonse:
"My king..I really don't want to believe any of the things everyone say. I'm still grateful that he had it in his heart to save one of his subjects at the hands of the so-called "justice". I vowed to be loyal to him, no matter what. It's..only the bare minimum I can do in return. I'm truly, truly thankful for him, and I hope he knows that."
-Killer:
"It's a shame she's not free..We don't interact that much, but I feel pity for her. A beautiful bird shouldn't be forced to sit in a cage for all it's life..It baffles me how none really bats an eye for the queen."
-Angst:
"His majesty? I like being in his company, a lot..Heh, we only really have eachother in this world. Sometimes I wish he could see how I feel, sometimes I don't..Maybe feelings are best to be kept to yourself, aren't they? Why would he care about a mere assistant?
..I'm going to be loyal to him until the day I die, anyway."
-Crescent:
"I don't know much about him at all, other than he's prince Angst's twin brother. I don't step much in the Light Kingdom either..Maybe someday we'll meet?"
-Merciless:
"Angst- Um, prince Angst really adores him, and he grew up healthy and strong too. I kind of see him like a little brother as well. Can you blame me? For his age, he's really like those little children who are too shy to ask for candy, or puppies looking for affection and treats."
-Artemis:
"She used to be cheerful and happy, caring to everyone. I remember the day I came she was so excited to meet me. But I've recently noticed a big shift in the young princess' mood..She looks tired, tense, argues with prince Merciless often...
If I didn't know any better, I'd say "She's probably being a brat!" but..Something doesn't feel right. No, something is awfully wrong. I need to find out..If only I had just some time away from Angst's side, maybe I could investigate.."
Too lazy to do her opinion on the rest tbh- So this is it for now-
OHHH ROOOOSEEEEEE COME GET YOUR APONIA <33 @anotherrosesthatfell

How do you feel about third act breakups? And do you have any favorites books with them to recommend?
When done well, I love 'em. Personally, I don't read a romance because I want to read about people just falling in love and fuckin' around without any conflict. I want to read about people having to fight for their love. Sometimes, that means splitting for a minute.
I think the reason why people don't love third act breakups right now, if I'm being super blunt, is that a lot of people have a very limited reading range wherein they only read a narrow selection of books. And a lot of those books? Don't do it well. I do think it's more challenging for low stakes books, which a lot of contemporary romcoms inherently are, to pull off the third-act breakup. Doesn't mean it's impossible! But it can be difficult, because I think that we often identify more with the characters in those settings and can go "... really?"
I also think that there are authors who do them just to do them, and you do need a good REASON for the characters to break up. I don't think it always needs to be because of the internal failings of the characters. I think it can be for external reasons, too. But I personally find a good third-act breakup super satisfying, because I love the angst and I love the reunion.
Some books that have done third-act breakups I love:
Give Me More by Sara Cate. This is MMF, so it's really one party breaking up with the other two while they stay together. And I felt like this made sense, because the one who did the breaking up knew he had a lot of work to do. The other two didn't want him to leave, but he NEEDED to, and I feel like...if they hadn't broken up, it would've felt kind of ludicrous for them to just move on. I also like the third act breakup in Praise. Tbh, Sara Cate can be hit or miss for me and I do think that some third act breakups she'd done are meh, but those really worked for me.
New Camelot by Sierra Simone. Another MMF, and this breakup is one where the throuple get together at the end of book 1, breaks up at the end of book 2, and really spends a lot of time with one part of the trio very separate. And again, I think this was necessary. These three had such an angsty relationship, and the party that splits off was SO full of self-loathing and resentment, and it truly served the overarching plot of the story. If he had not left, it would've been like... okay, so he has ZERO sense of will, ZERO independence, and a SUPERHUMAN level of tolerance for some really negative emotions. Also, it was consistent with his history.
The Duke Gets Even by Joanna Shupe. I loooove this one. She was being consistent with her emotional issues she'd had since the start of the book; he wasn't being a doormat. It worked for both of them, and it worked for the plot. The Bride Goes Rogue also has an excellent third act breakup, because it's like--if she had not dumped his ass, she would've had zero self respect. He needed to be dumped.
Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips has one of my favorite variations, which is "she just fucks off and doesn't tell him where she's going and he freaks the fuck out". And again, HE NEEDED TO BE DUMPED. IT WAS A THING THAT NEEDED TO HAPPEN. HE FUCKED UP.
Priest by Sierra Simone. A lot of people hate this third act breakup. I ask "literally how the fuck do you expect a book about a truly devout Catholic priest who struggles with his spirituality and his place in life and the Church falling in love with a woman and breaking his vows to NOT have a third act breakup", it made sense to me that she needed something that she wasn't getting from him and he frankly needed a minute to figure himself out.
Lothaire by Kresley Cole. One of the greatest TABs of all time. She literally almost kills him and then he spends several weeks bitching and moaning all by himself and smelling her panties and trying to kiss other women and not even being able to stomach it because SHE HAS RUINED HIM.
Hyacinth by S.M. LaViolette. I loved this one, because it made sense that Hyacinth, a neurodivergent character whose abuse has convinced her that she's incapable of love, would struggle to communicate her intentions to her hero, and he would get mad at that, and she wouldn't be able to deal and would fuck off. And then it means he can go find her again and grovel and learn how to make her comfortable by talking to people who love her!
The Earl Takes All by Lorraine Heath. Literally necessary to the plot that they break up for a minute! And the angst is DELICIOUS.
Mafia Madman by Mila Finelli. He needed to be broken up with, she needed to be away from him to affirm that she actually wanted to be with him. Also? Another one where he gets to sit there and be MISERABLE for a min.
A LOT of my favorite books have TABs, and I think that they can be deeply necessary to ensure that the book isn't just... boring.

he will buy you gifts and spoil you while making himself look like the best possible option among the yan corp bosses
he also doesn't mind poisoning your thoughts against the other corp members.
he wants you and he'll have you by all means.
his biggest rival would be florence, because she can predict his behaviour fairly well.
biggest weakness: he can be a bit materialistic, so his tactics wouldn't work well with a darling that doesn't like being spoilt.
florence:
similar to knox, florence might have the tendency to play dirty
but unlike knox, she's more tactical about it.
she'll play the 'misunderstood victim' card
in this instance, she'll make it seem like she isnt really mean or a 'tough boss'
that all the staff just dont like her cause they misunderstand her a lot
as she does this, she simultaneously acts very nicely towards you so that it seems more believable.
by using this angle, she's making herself look good while subtly diminishing your opinions about the other corp bosses.
this method would work especially well on a very empathetic darling.
her biggest rival would be angel because of her natural charm and kindness.
biggest weakness: she's a bit impatient so she cant play the 'long game', which wouldn't work well for a darling that gets overwhelmed easily.
angel:
tbh, angel wouldn't have to do much
she's already known as the office sweetheart so she has a nice reputation
however, she may just play it up a little bit
angel would act extra nice to staff and especially towards you
she'd be extremely nice to people in the same department as you, so that they can continue to gush about how nice she is.
if this doesn't work and you continue to remain indifferent to her advances, angel doesn't mind playing damsel in distress.
tripping on the stairs and into your arms, falling over with a stack of papers in your hallway (what is she using all that paper for anyway?), the buttons on her shirt randomly popping off when you're the only person in the room, her ''forgetting'' an umbrella when wearing a white shirt and needing to borrow the extra sweater you brought to work-
the list goes on tbh
and out of everyone in the corp, you're most likely to fall for angel.
mostly because she's so good at what she does
her biggest rival would be her brother, priest, because he's a fast thinker and can quickly think of ways to counter her 'pining methods'
biggest weakness: a shy/introverted darling wouldn't appreciate angel intruding into their personal bubble so often, unless they've become close.
priest:
priest would easily win against all the corp members
as head of marketing, he's extremely good at predicting human behaviour
therefore he's always one step ahead of everyone else
for example, knox could have set up a surprise at your desk at work, addressing it from your 'secret admirer'
since knox has a tendency to act suspiciously when he's planning something as well as having the tendency to spoil love interests with gifts, priest would expect that he was planning a surprise for you
and priest would counteract that by sending you on field work that day, or asking you to take it easy and work from home that day, so you would never get to see the surprise.
priest would constantly work hard to counteract every single thing that the other corps members could do to woo you.
his biggest rival would be bennett, because bennett has a tendency to be unpredictable and to think outside the box.
biggest weakness: if a corp member or darling doesn't act according to his prediction, then it can make him look bad and jeopardise his chances with darling
quinn:
quinn's tactic to winning over darling is an unusual one, yet very smart.
their plan is to do nothing.
act uninterested, tell the other corps members that they are uninterested and act friendly to you in a semi-platonic way.
quinn will quietly wait in the shadows and let the corps members fight amongst each other over you, and when everyone least expects, they'll strike and snatch you up.
they'll have lunch with you everyday, and grow close to you, slowly but surely.
they dont mind even playing double agent, in which a corp members asks quinn to play wingman, and help them out
quinn agrees obviously, and uses that excuse to spend more time with you.
under the guise of 'helping out'
when in fact, they're trying to win you over to themselves.
their biggest rivals would be bennett (because he has more access to information) and angel (because she's more friendly and easy to talk to)
biggest weakness: darling may not like the friends to lovers trope and may end up just friendzoning quinn.
bennett:
finally, bennett.
bennett's tactic is to become the man of your dreams.
he will stalk all your social media to find out what you like, the kind of people you follow, the type of people you dislike, your ideologies-
he'll find out everything
hell, he'll even find out about all your exes and find out what they had in common so he can adopt that attribute into his personality
any kind of man you want, that's what he'll be.
and the thing about bennett is that, he's so discrete about things, so you'd never imagine that he's basing his personality off of what you like
he makes it seem natural
bennett wouldn't actively compete or hate on the other members-
he'd just try to drastically improve his chances.
his biggest rival would probably be angel and quinn, due to the fact that they're both easily approachable and easy to talk to.
biggest weakness: if darling is the type to change their mind/opinion quickly, then bennett may not always be kept updated on their new interest or ideology, therefore rendering his tactic useless.

I think it's wild that he goes on and on about how he hates Gojo. Like bro you made him 💀
I wish he followed through on alot of the potential he sets up. I feel like the best he did was with magito vs yuji but I felt like thay huge character moment was kinda detracted from with sukuna. Do you have any thoughts on sukunas usage? What you would do differently?
OH I KNOW. LIKE. IMAGINE HAVING ACTUAL BEEF WITH YOUR OC. BRO WHAT LMAO
And I agree totally about Magito, I do have some Thoughts on that. My knowledge of JJK is a bit spotty about more recent stuff though because I refuse to invest more time than bare minimum into keeping up with it
I would have slowed the pace down a bit right after Magito and lulled the audience into a false sense of security before whipping out The Full Sukuna Mode. I think Gege's in too much of a rush to finish the story now, so things are just happening one after the other in a way that feels like a freight train of Plot without a clear end. If he's about to start The Climax and end the story, then everyone who's alive needs to be established and everyone who's dead needs to FUCKING LEAVE
In general, I would just have Sukuna Do More than just be a dick. I hate it when writers hear "chaotic evil" and think that just means the character is as cruel and openly nasty as possible. That's not chaotic, I know what he's going to do- he's gonna do evil shit. That's the exact opposite of chaos. I know he's got some thing with a priest(ess?) and THAT'S kinda interesting, just because that's the first relationship with a person that's actually different and out of character. That's the first truly chaotic thing he's done.
I'd just completely redo Sukuna's character tbh. His personality as this nasty, mean god doesn't fit the amount of power he has- he should be more like Saitama, drole and exhausted and borderline miserable due to his sheer unmatched power, and his cruelty and malice only comes out when he feels threatened or is allowed to run free. Everytime Yuji taps into his power, it should feel difficult for him to stop not because Sukuna is doing anything, but because his power is naturally tempting in its sheer vastness.
It's too close to how Magito treated Yuji, as well. Sukuna doesn't have a complex relationship with anything, especially Yuji, and I would have more moments of them actually seeing eye to eye on things, or maybe Sukuna finding Yuji's perspective engaging in a way he's never experienced before. They're sharing a body- in a metaphorical sense, they should be leaving traces of themselves on each other. It just feels more like he pops up whenever Yuji needs to feel Bad, and he Fucks Off the moment the story needs to move on

i completely forgot to do this omg only now remembered
so uhh, prepare for a lot of talk about The Exorcist. because i took notes. ill talk about shit in the order it happens in the movie. and yeah spoilers.
so first, the part that's in Iraq. i liked the quiet, very comforting. im very confused what's wrong with the old guy. he looks like a walking cane would help him a lot. more than the molly or whatever pills he takes. and also i was so confused why that statue mattered at all.
mom checks up on Reagan: "wind cannot be that cold in like usa the fuck you shivering for",, in hindsight, there's another reason for it to be so cold.
the film set: "damien karras spotted!!" @weirdlildude you have conditioned me to get excited whenever i see him. otherwise, "what the hells going on", i was so confused the whole time, mainly because i didnt know if the protest was real, or if everyone was actors. it was just very confusing. and when damien walks away: "sad pathetic man!!"
mom, Chris, is walking home: "ace attourney ass music" and "why'd she pay attention to that??" when she stops and watches the priests talking.
"what is with this movie and the sound design", just a general statement. the movie likes to contrast thick silences with really loud sounds.
Karras visits his mother: "pathetic man caught lying to his mother!!", when he says he's alright.
Chris and Reagan hang out: "girlypop ive got a chronic case of parent issues"
the other priest checks up on Karras: "losing faith? *eyebrow raise*"
Chris goes up to the attic to check the noise: "omg im like so bored", legit nothing was happening, was getting very bored. also i didnt write this in my notes, but Chris has a horrid haircut. its like a bowlcut but worse.
priest does stuff in the church: "do priests legit need to kneel everytime they approach the altar. doesnt that get like really tiring geez" and when the priest discovers the vandalised statue: "LMAOOO JGGIDJAGHJAFD FUCK YEAH"
Reagan's first doctors visit: "omg words that should never come out of a mothers mouth number 1 "my daughters not depressed" "
the director gets drunk at Chris' party and calls that one dude a nazi: "LMAOF "whats for dessert?😏" "
Karras has a dream: "doggy:)"
Reagan's second hospital visit: "oh god i hate horror stuff that takes place in a hospital", and "oh god i hate this why's she awake during this"
Karras is running on the track: "he's a runner he's a track star", when he's talking with the detective and leans on the chain fence "i want him to kabedon me like that", and when the conversation ends "tbh i did not fully understand that conversation but understanding that father karras is a little shit is enough"
Chris and Reagan return home and the detective is watching them: "this fucking creep ass detective", Chris and him start talking "i fucking hate this guy omg shut up", they talk more "this guy is so rude omg"
Chris hears Reagan scream and goes to check on her: "is uhh,, is this movie like pure horror? like that wasnt supposed to be comedic?". this is where i started to really be confused about the genre of the movie. like, i started to realise that it was not inciting any horror from me, and barely even like, anxiousness. like i did care for the characters, but its hard to really feel scared for them when the demon threatening them is chanting "let jesus fuck you", and puking constantly.
Chris goes to ask Karras for an exorcism: "why is the church so progressive in this??" like legit you're telling me the catholic church doesn't believe in posession, because science has advanced to explain the symptoms. that sounds like bullshit to me. in 1973? you're just lying.
Chris is desperate to help her daughter: "dude my parent issues be hitting hard"
Karras throws tap water onto Reagan: "i dont get it like. why did it react to the water?", i just dont get it. the movie doesn't really care to explain it. cuz i thought that the demon actually wouldn't be real because of that. or did Karras unintentionally bless the water by saying its holy? idk
when Karras and the older priest take a break from exorcising, and the old priest walks off: "is he gonna kill her. also am i supposed to understand what the pills he's taking are?". genuinely i have no fucking idea what the pills are that this old guy keeps taking, like they could just be breath mints for all i know.
Karras is sitting downstairs in the hall: "sorry he's so hot jeezums"
Karras is resolved to not let the demon kill Reagan: "oh shit karras be fighting FOR THIS GIRLS LIFE"
Chris opens the door to the detective: "OH MY GOD FUCKING GO AWAY YOU DETECTIVE"
Karras, uhm,, takes a leap of faith: "I FORGOT THAT THIS HAPPENS I KNEW THIS AND STILL DEAR GOD NOOOOO",
"BUT ALSO KINDA COOL OF HIM TO DO THAT", it was kinda hot that he sacrificed himself, though he was probably just looking for a reason after his mom died.
Chris and Reagan talk to that one priest that knew Karras: "oh like she(Reagan)'s thanking karras for saving her? she recognised the collar and felt compelled to thank him?", wondering why Reagan gave a kiss to the priest.
this whole ending scene tbh: "jesus its so quiet again", this movie really likes its quiet silences.
detective talks to dyer: "LMAOOOOO"
credits: "DAMN I ACTUALLY REALLY LIKE THE SOUND TRACK??", "lmao warner bros should add a "the exorcist" attraction into the universal studios park"
anywayy yeah its a fun movie, though i feel the need to read the book now to understand it fully ya know? feels like im missing something... also i know that it got popular cuz its so like "provocative" and stuff, but in this age i dont really get the hype. i guess it is still worth appreciating for furthering the art of film ya know.

🤨 What blasphemous thing could you possibly say/do at 8yo to get banned from church?! But I guess I shouldn't be too suprised, after all a priest told my mom that I'm a literal Satan when I was a baby and refused to baptise me 🤣🤣🤣🤣!
A priest refused to baptise you??? Why??? Ohmygod😅I'd love to hear the surrounding story if there is one!!!💗
Okay, so I need to give you some context! And please please know that I mean no offense if I get any terminology or names wrong; it's just I'm telling this from the perspective of an eight year old, and my memory is quite hazy. And I came out of this experience an atheist and I've never looked back so I have very little knowledge of what events and types of church services are called. But anyway.
Here's how I got a life-long ban from my local church at the age of eight by being extremely blasphemous:
(I have placed a cut here but it may not be showing itself; I know tumblr is having trouble with cuts recently).
It's a story which had @daincrediblegg laughing so hard my microphone went a bit statick-y, and I'll never be able to forget the sound of the sunshine that night.😭😍💗
When I was a young kid, between the ages of 4 and 10, my nan was obsessed with trying to teach me about monotheism; Christianity, namely. I'm not too sure what sector she wanted me to learn about, I was too young to really know anything beyond "it's religious and I have to go to Church every Sunday and I don't want to". And I mean she was obsessed.
Against the wishes of my mother, my nan took me to Sunday school every Sunday even if I had plans already, such as seeing a family member or mum taking me out somewhere, and nan always took me to... is it Mass? every Easter and Christmas, and it got to the point where the only thing she'd read me if I stayed over at her house was the Bible (please note, she wasn't even a practicing Christian, not really; it was all for show because, while she believes in God, what she really wanted to do was get some kind of control over me to rub it in my mum's face... they've never gotten along and have a very antagonistic relationship even now) and she was always dragging me to Bible study groups etc etc and by the time I was eight, I was old enough to know that I was sick of it.
But no matter what I said, no matter how big a tantrum I threw or how loud I told her I didn't want to, no matter how well I literally hid myself, she always found me, and she always dragged me to church. Sometimes, I would be literally kicking and screaming. Please remember, I was only eight and I wasn't being listened to. My nan wasn't listening to me and mum's attempts to stop it from happening were failing, too, my nan was borderline controlling with it tbh I was being told that I would become a monster if I didn't let the priest do the... is it the sacrament? With the wafer on the tongue when you go up to the altar and the priest does the holy water cross on your forehead? I'm not sure what it's called, but one night she said I would become a monster if I didn't let the priest do this with me (implying I wanted it, when I really didn't and was actually crying because I didn't want to do it).
And I remember, as I stood up, I was thinking if a tantrum doesn't work at nan's house... will it work here? I was desperate to go home and be left alone and not be made to come back to church. And she wasn't listening to me, so I did what any child would do.
I threw a tantrum.
So I got up there and knelt down at the altar and the priest offered me a circle wafer to put on my tongue (I held it in my mouth and didn't eat it because I didn't wanna eat Jesus) and just as he put the holy water on my forehead and started to make the sign of the cross, I started screaming and hissing, thrashing myself around yelling "it burrrrrns, it burns me" and making a proper moment of it. I don't even know where I got the idea from, I was just a little kid with so much anger and frustration and my emotions were too big for my little body and all I knew was, I wanted to go home and I never wanted to come to church again.
I was basically carried out of the church, I don't even know by who, it was absolute chaos, and my nan literally threw me past the doors, yelling at how I'd embarrassed her and she'd never be able to go there again, didn't I know what I'd just done? The priest was so upset, I was condemned to hell now, blah blah blah, and I was crying on the way home but not because I was upset. I was happy.
When nan yelled down the phone about what had happened, my mum was cackling and took me out for ice cream to celebrate my standing up for myself. The next day, I asked mum what a person is called if they don't believe in any god, and she told me about atheism. That day, I decided I was an atheist. I've never looked back since.
And that is how I got banned from the church for life at the age of eight. And also how I finally got my nan to listen to me. She never tried to get me to go to church again after that, and our relationship has also never been the same, because that day, she realised I had a mind of my own and she's never quite known what to do about that... either way, I'll never be that cool again, ohmygod🤣
#IM SO HAPPY YOU ASKED#i was ITCHING to tell this story#looking back im not proud of how i acted#but i was a literal child

I NEED MORE OF THIS??? PLEASE tell me about this au omg
OH BABY I WAS SAVING THIS FOR WHEN I HAD THE BRIAN FOR IT! including bolding and italics for easier reading on my part
i am SO fond of my witch in the well au. the connection was between witch!lying and witchcraft smp being, well, witches. the basic concept was one of the witchcrafters accidentally summons/awakens an old power, which freed lying from the well. originally it was actually going to be scott who freed them, by trying and failing to contact an ancient power, but then joey literally fell into a well. and that was just too poetic to ignore. i think lying was going to be a fear witch specifically.
>i dont have significant plot beyond the comic, which is why it's ended (tentative, if i get ideas i may continue), but i and some friends did have ideas for interactions beyond it. if it had continued, joey was going to make some deals with the witch for more power. to quote my own discord msgs on it, "maybe he does want to be the supreme witch, but is it worth this? lying makes him uneasy. he can't help but feel he's in danger, whenever he's around them. like there's something off" (mar 2023). so joey ends up in an uneasy sort of alliance, in part because after he escaped the well by digging/building out (not bound by the magic lying was, free to move and craft as he pleases), they look very much like a wet cat.
>cleo would recognize that dealing with the fear witch is a bad idea, but also treats them more as a nuisance than a threat until given evidence to the contrary. she also antagonizes them a little, because cleo in witchcraft (and in general) refuses to be intimidated even when given good reason, and the witch is all about intimidating people.
something something slapfight between the fear witch trying to intimidate and cleo's refusal to be scared. cleo doesn't tend to overestimate themself, so how well that slapfight goes for her depends on if she realizes it won't go well for her and plays cautious or if she leans in to the slapfight and sees what lying is capable of. if it's the latter, they probably get taken out of commission long enough to preserve the critical mistake moment for others. lying, to cleo, seems a little like a jokey thing and there's a significant chance she underestimates them.
part of what makes cleo and lying's interaction/slapfight so interesting is both of them spec'd into defense and retaliation instead of offense, meaning there's a tense waiting period to see who strikes first. there might be social tension because witch!cleo and lying the witch are similar, but cleo has friendly allies and lying has only the hesitant alliance with joey. that could be dug into and inspected closely for good plot points.
another angle that was discussed was cleo, being the time witch, may have met other lyings/at least be aware of them, giving her a reason to be wary. if she has, then she probably plays cautious, and during the crux of the intimidation slapfight she makes an escape. she honestly may have been friends with other lyings in other timelines!
and, tbh, from what ive seen and heard of lyings in general, they are mostly posturing and intimidation. witch!lying has gotten their ass kicked both times ive seen an actual fight (priest!lying, maid!lying, for example). they have a lot of defensive power but there's not much to back up that posturing. in contrast, cleo is closer to 70% posturing, but has power to back that up. the witch is scary and smart, but cleo is on a server with a bunch of maniacs who kill each other for fun (civil war, house war, demise, turf war, whatever the hell season 8 was, tag, decked out 1 & 2, demise 2, etc) where the witch was on a server where folks killed in self defense or to settle scores. this means the way they approach conflict differs!
>cupquake keeps her distance because the trees give her a quick psa to Stay Away From That Thang, depicted in the comic as the trees becoming more storybook horror gnarled branches the closer cupquake got. another funny quote from the outline for the comic "for once it is the trees who speak for the lorax" (mar 2023). iirc i may have written stuff in the branches but idr? ik i wrote things in the fog but the fog was specifically lying luring ppl in to free them. cupquake nopes out and plays avoidance hardcore, bc what i recall from watching her as a kid is while she has a lot of magic power once she gets into the midgame of botania, she's also very easy to startle/scare.
>an interesting point brought up is the ravens, tameable ravens from the modpack! el had a conversation with one in her first episode and shelby tamed one. the witch can see through ravens' eyes iirc. el thinks they're crows but based on how they're tamed they're bewitchment ravens. i didnt go too deep into this one for the comic but theres potential there.
>i never fleshed out the end of the story/plot regarding the supreme witch but i imagine the goal is getting the witch back to their home server or something. maybe they partake in the competition to be supreme witch, maybe they dont. honestly feel free to riff off of what i have written! witch in the well was made collaboratively and id love to see how other folks play in the universe!
#witchcraft smp#witch in the woods lying#witchcraft joey#witchcraft cleo#witchcraft el#witchcraft shelby#witchcraft cupquake#witch in the well au#ironically i dont think any of the comic posts are tagged that. but you can find them by searching witchcraft smp on my blog i hope#looking back at the posts i forgot to fucking link the prev/next pages on them. oops.#long post

what do you think ozma's quest to reform lodis actually entails? i find her dialogue with lanselot in the law route to be very interesting because she is so harsh on him and his methods! but it's not as if she personally sees anything wrong with torturing people, invading foreign countries, installing puppet leaders, etc etc etc. i think she is incredibly interesting because we recruit her, but the story doesn't try to convince us that she had a sudden moral breakthrough or anything. but she appears quite sincere when she talks to lanselot. i really wish we knew more about what's going on behind the scenes in lodis. i think finding out what happened to hobyrim and learning that she can't trust the dark knights played a big part in it, obviously, learning that she was playing the part of a pawn for someone else's plotting...
You raise a really interesting point which her ending(s) always leave me thoughtful about! I'm in agreement there is certainly a bulk of hypocrisy on Ozma's part, and I like that Lanselot points it out in Reborn.
(Top 3 funniest things he's ever said though)
One of my favourite things about her is that she does very little to appear sympathetic, which is unlike the other people you can recruit who either do a better job of hiding their worst qualities or show a much greater ability to change. I agree there is absolutely no moral breakthrough from her at all!
Still, being the victim of all this manipulation has definitely lifted the veil from her eyes... Sometimes to recognize something is wrong, you need it to happen to you, I suppose. She participated in using some very condemnable means because she believed in Lanselot's course of action but I also think she was misled and only saw the tip of the iceberg (still though... a very sharp and nasty tip). So I'm inclided to think she didn't realize the grip Lanselot and Balxephon had on the High Priest and the rest of Lodis. So now that she knows, I do think she's sincere about reforming Lodis and turning it away from authoritarianism in order to do right by her people.
That being said Ozma isn't just any soldier or any Lodissian citizen, she is a noblewoman from one of the most prized and influencial Houses in the empire and they're written as directly responsible for a lot of reprehensible things Lodis has done, starting with expanding and enslaving neighbouring nations. The game makes it clear corruption, Lanselot and Balxephon aren't the only problems with Lodis and I'm less convinced with Ozma's desire to reform this.
Her exchanges with Andoras (and specifically the one in Tzorious Field) make me think she has a loooong way to go before considering these issues.
That being said, I don't think it's completely impossible either. She knows Oz, her beloved twin brother, guilty of having betrayed her and I think this has been a blow to her personal conceptions of family. Hopefully this also leads her to become intransigent about torture as well since Ozma displayed a bizarre "Whatever my brother does is fine so long as I don't have to witness it" stance while coming down on Barbas and Martym for slaughtering civilians (which I always thought was her most blatantly hypocritical quality tbh).
By the end of the game, she does show an ability to question what's right and wrong. Timidly still, but there is something budding there.
(This is probably the most guilty and humble she appears in the entire game. This isn't much but hey, it's a small self-aware step)
Honestly I see two possible and believable developments for Ozma. She can try and make Lodis a less corrupted place, try and free it from Lanselot's iron grip and turn a blind eye to the rest, ignore the suffering Lodis brings onto the rest of the world. Or she can go further still, better herself and her House by aknowledging all the wrongs it's done. That would need her to let go of her pride and go against her upbringing which would also be an interesting and valuable perspective. I'm also convinced this would be significantly harder without Hobyrim who has a strong head start on her in this regard, and generally appears more compassionate and principled.
Imo if a continuation had been written, this would have been one of the most important points to follow-up on and I'd have been interested in an Ozma whose flaws lead her to half-baked and hypocritical measures or in an Ozma who has to reconsider all she's known and her own morals. At least not knowing for sure allows me to consider both possibilities.
Also thanks for sharing your thoughts and enabling me to blabber about My Beloved Ozma like this! It's nice to read other people have pondered that aspect of her character!

.: My Current Theory(s) :.
I've only played this game for around a couple days, but I've also been hunting down theories outside of it...and hoo boy, my hunches for most things going on make me so excited to see what happens next. I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing these things, and I will definitely try to use other traits (I main Street Smarts and Mystic in my canon playthrough) to see if I can get other stuff to pop up.
But for now, I'm gonna talk about my own playthrough and my theories for events after Chapter Four.
(+) I didn't like my cousin at first, honestly she weirded me out and I fully believe she's part of everything going on..but I can tell she's not entirely 'bad', she's probably just stuck doing these things and feels she simply can't leave. And I do like that she doesn't want us causing trouble, I do believe she cares but isn't trying to get too close (for reasons). I even protected her during the psychedelic ghost 'vision', giving up years of my life in her place. I hope I can get closer to her in future chapters, even if she betrays me I'd still not entirely be angry about it.
(+) Sybil is definitely sus. I kept on feeling there was something about her, I mean she knows about Ditchlings and doesn't seemed scared in the least by anything going on. But when she did the tea reading...I got the ability to actually push past my option to suspect her being the 'cat' being flipped on me. So my fears were correct, she definitely knows what's going on. And may be even the mastermind behind it all. I wouldn't be surprised in the least at this point, especially after she literally stood in a doorframe and had shadows on her the entire time. So I'm gonna be watching out for her.
(+) I hope that the church is important soon, I do wanna see the mysteries behind that place and Tetanus Lake. I bet the 'rats' are either Ditchlings, or possibly even ghosts of those who died in that lake...and I bet we'll have to jump in. Possibly to find another one of those symbols/seals buried underneath. And I'm actually starting to like the priest, I don't think he's a bad guy and is simply just trying too hard to be liked...though a part of me hopes I'm wrong. If I'm wrong, I want it to be revealed that the priest is actually running a cult of some kind. Because those little tidbits throughout the story are driving me up a wall.
(+) I didn't save the doctor in my canon playthrough, so I hope that doesn't screw me over in the future...but it probably will. I'll probably get bad metal poisoning and all that from the lake, and there'd be no doctor to help with that. I just hope Reese comes back...I'm trying to romance him, I just want my monster boy to cuddle me as I deal with this hellscape of a town.
(+) I think Reese is most definitely NOT human. He's most close to an Incubus, at least with how he was conceived...but he's also similar to a Vampire and/or Werewolf, I mean he can shapeshift and even has a tail. Maybe he could also be part Ditchling...I wouldn't be surprised if he was, considering. I just hope that I won't have to face him possibly going into a hunger frenzy at some point, and I hope he doesn't get a hunger for humans after chomping down on his own mom. But, I'm also not against helping him with that...*grabs axe*
(+) Stella NEEDS to be found. And soon. I hope she really isn't a part of everything going on, but after she just up and left I'm not leaving out any reasoning. Even asking Wayne about her didn't get me anywhere, but tbh that whole thing after Reese I'm far less wary of him now than before. I mean, the guy wants me to leave the town...so he is definitely on my side, even if he did try to hurt Reese I'll still try trusting him more. He may be the only lifeline I'll have to save myself in the future.

What are some like random headcanons you have of Matt (Murdock)? Like his favourite scents and songs?
WARNING : SORRY ABOUT THE SPACING IT KEEPS LAGGING I HOPE IT DOESN'T MAKE THIS UNREADABLE. VERY SORRY. IF YOU HAVE A SOLUTION OR TIPS FOR SPACING THE ELEMENTS OF THE LIST PLEASE TELL ME!!
oooooooooooooooooooooh
i've thought about this but never somehow posted about it??? like i post about casting ancient greek philosophers but not matt?? weird
also you never have to specify 'murdock' to me <3 he's one of the only five things i have on my mind at all times
keep in mind this is about MY opinions on LIVE ACTION matt. I have not gotten into any daredevil comics just yet but I'm planning on it - so i'm obviously not very knowledgeable about the comic version of the character!!
also we are going to disregard the "90s top 40 hits" comment from when he was with elektra for the music part
He doesn't focus on it that much in public settings or obviously as Daredevil, cause ofc he fights sweaty people in the darkened stinky alleys of Hell's kitchen, but I feel like his home would be spotless. A few spots of blood sometimes, but usually spotless
Also prefers non-alcohol, unscented or natural cleaning products ofc ofc (maybe even carries a little bottle of natural unscented hand sanitizer sometimes)
as for favorite scents, I feel like he'd love subtle sweet scents more than cologne or perfume- like the lingering smell of cinnamon or vanilla on Carver after she's been bak--- and for himself, relies on the fresh laundry and unscented shampoo for normal days, splurges with a very careful amount of traditionally musky or "manly" cologne for events. very particular about how and where he applies it.
doesn't like cooking that much even if he's amazing at it??
Foggy, in college, as the ultimate wingman, used to advertise those cooking skills to ladies
Also, Foggy has been begging for a recipe for something, that Matt has been refusing to give him for YEARS. They argue about it during holidays, especially thanksgiving when he brings that same dish or pastry to the Nelson family reunion (just to spite him)
Matt's cooking is also sometimes something they bet on! like if Matt loses he has to cook for Foggy or something. If Foggy loses he still cooks for him, but he just puts the bag or boxes in his office and doesn't mention it and leaves before Foggy can argue
He used to hate coffee but he grew to really love it over time, and is now specific about how he really enjoys it. (and bear with me here, has been searching for a perfect coffee place and well, well, well....what have we here....THE CHISEL MUAHAHAH)
In college he had a caffeine pill phase, when he hated it but needed the caffeine
Likes classical music! I feel like he'd really like Puccini. and Vivaldi. (Vivaldi used to be a priest, and was apparently nicknamed the Red Priest due to his red hair. how appropriate is that) - just late-baroque in general. Thinks Tchaikovsky or Mahler are cool too
Also likes old-school rap
ohhh and i can see him not like rock that much but i imagine his Dad making him listen to classic rock and telling him that "it's music at it's finest" and air-guitar to Hendrix or Santana to make him laugh. (tbh Jack has that "i used to play guitar" vibe to him.)
Doesn't listen to music as much as anyone else of course - but that's because there's a certain guilt to it. Matt would be someone who'd always want to stay alert, for his sake but mostly everybody else's. Shutting the world out by focusing on music feels almost selfish because what if someone needs help and he doesn't hear them, or not in time? For the same reason that he keeps pushing himself to save people or "bring justice" in his own way. He just wants to help and save everyone and doesn't allow himself to take proper breaks or relax.
But honestly, i feel like it'd be cute to imagine him reminiscing about music his dad showed him, or discuss composers with Father Lantom
now sorry if this post is a little long, but this is what I thought about already, although if you give me some time i'd probably come up with more tbh
thank you so much for asking!!
tell me what you think or what you agree/disagree with :)

thinking about how my husband lamented that Rings of Power doesn't do much with the Valar. thinking about how the Queen of Numenor says faith is a thin thread to hang a nation from, which runs counter to... most of recorded human history, not to mention Tolkien's works, where multiple nations of men awaited their True King to deliver them into a golden age, and Boromir's declaration that "Gondor needs no king" signified faithlessness and that was a negative thing. thinking about how there are articles out there to explain why Galadriel was upset in Rings of Power, to explain that she turned her back on elf heaven, on the selfsame far green country with whose description Gandalf moved us all to tears in Return of the King, and she chose ruin and the world
thinking yet again about how Cersei Lannister blows up a whole church because the Sparrows had become more influential than the crown, and a handful of episodes later she says "hey smallfolk, come into the castle keep to stay safe from this battle" and the smallfolk... do it, instead of saying "fuck no, that's the lady with the wildfire who killed our beloved priests and committed the worst possible blasphemies, and this matters to us because we are peasants and the only thing in our lives is work and religion" and there were no further repercussions because apparently the influential state religion of Westeros was one building and a cool catchphrase
thinking about Tess of the Road, which I almost did not finish because wow it's grueling to be a woman in a fantasy novel isn't it? thinking about the spiritual epiphany it grants its title character in the midst of a kneejerk "Catholicism but even more oppressive" setting because it reads easily I guess (see also all the Dragon Age games). still haven't unpacked all my thoughts from that one tbh but it's rolling around in there and it will be for a while
thinking about how almost nobody wants to write characters who have relationships with their gods, even in fantasy, a genre where characters could have very literal relationships with their gods, be they adversarial or positive or realistically messy. thinking about how writers seem not to want to touch that, either because it's too messy or because of an impression that society is beyond that. thinking about how this extends beyond the fantasy genre. thinking about how sterile Station Eleven's post-apocalypse felt and how part of that was a lack of folk practices or any spiritualism apart from the antagonist's obviously bad oppressive pseudo-Christianity. thinking about Anne McCaffrey insisting there is no religion on Pern in the far future, versus, like, everything about Deep Space Nine. thinking about how Battlestar Galactica felt ballsy as fuck for having monotheistic Cylons and polytheistic humans, but in the end that thread and the implications of robots worshiping a god just... never went anywhere
thinking about how, when religion is included in a work of fiction, it’s almost always with a wink wink, nudge nudge, you know and I know how backward and bogus this is, but it’s almost never played straight, much less validated in the narrative (I love you Netflix’s Shadow and Bone). and when it is portrayed as a positive influence in people's lives, it's in the vaguest, always culturally-Christian, terms of "light" and "darkness" and "hope". thinking about how Midnight Mass told a story about people who took so much comfort in their religion that even after it turned them into vampires and destroyed their community they sang hymns as the sun rose, and how that was such a foreign thing that a lot of the audience found it unbelievable
thinking about the extra layer of hypocrisy in defending a work of fantasy by saying "it was just like that back then" when a) there was no back then because it's fantasy, and b) the work in question ignores the foundational role religion played throughout the medieval Europe all these fantasy worlds use as a template
thinking about how art is meant to nurture the soul, but increasingly neglects to grant one to its characters
thinking about how if we can't imagine a world where people have a spiritual life that isn't just a tool of oppression, how can we create one
thinking about how much I love the Queen's Thief series and Arthdal Chronicles
#thinking (as ever) that I really like the idea of the fantasy genre but not the reality of it#thinking increasingly that I want to write an apotheosis :)#this post is unrebloggable so Catholic Tumblr™️ doesn't get ahold of it. replies are welcome#and to be absolutely clear here: if there is a point or an appeal in this ramble#it is not for better representation of fantasy!Catholicism. enough of that. we're full up.#the appeal is for more religion/actual spiritual practices in fantasy. of all kinds! ones that are made up wholecloth!#it's FANTASY. let's IMAGINE STUFF#The Rings of Power for ts#long post for ts
