i wonder how representative my jancy-ronance poll is of the byler fandom's opinions as a whole bc so far i think it's been mostly limited to my followers and hasn't spread too far outside the circle

Okay you know what on that note? - here's my ranking of ship names. Literally nothing to do with the ship itself, just how the names sound to me.

Ronance - A+ - It's like romance but with an N, what else is there to say? I think the only possible point I could take from it is I, personally, never call her Nance but, like, Robin does in canon. So everything's okay.

Byclair - A - It's cute and I like it.

Jancy - A - I like it! I think it grew on me after I saw The Florida Project and Drawtectives because honestly? I kinda just like it as a regular ass name.

Cheerwheeler - A - Beautiful from an unbiased perspective and totally not from the guy that made it up.

Steddie - A - It's a very solid ship name I think even if I didn't know who it was I would probably guess it was two gay white boys. You did well.

Hellcheer - A - Tells you everything you need to know I mean what can I say.

Henclair - B+ - Another good Clair one.

Ednancy - B - It's a solid name and I don't have to do a lot of thinking to know who it is.

Henfield - B - I don't even know if this is the ship name for Max and Dustin because I rarely hear about the ship. But it works!

Byler - C+ - It's fine, it works, but considering Jonathan and Nancy could also technically go by the ship name I think the only thing that makes the name unique to Mike & Will is just because of how popular the ship is.

Rovickie - C+ - It works, I immediately can decipher who the people are, and it sounds good.

Wheelingham - C+ - it's okay I can't complain.

Elmax - C+ - same feeling as Lumax but I think it's slightly better

Lumax - C+ - It's good, it's solid, I have nothing against it. But it's also not amazing. Mayclair is better IMO (for some reason I'm a sucker for the names ending in Clair)

Mileven - C - It's fine. It works. It's not creative and it sounds average but like, that's okay!

Jopper - C - It's fine and there's not much room for improvement tbh.

Stancy - C - doesn't hit the same as Jancy but I can't think of a good alternative.

Jargyle - C - It sounds kinda garbled, I think it could be better. Don't ask me how.

Rockie - C - I don't know why people choose this one over Rovickie it's just the same name but worse.

Wheelclair - C - it's so similar to 'wheelchair' that my computer autocorrected it to wheelchair. That being said, it's hard to think of a good alternative for it.

Madwheeler - C - It's just a strange combo. I think if you're gonna go with nicknames its gotta be nickname + nickname. But, again, I think the only good alternative is Mayler and that's not even that good.

Buckingham - D - I think if it was a more popular ship it would be better, the way Byler is, but it takes me ten fucking years every single time to figure out who the two people are because I forget the last names of the obscure characters like Vickie, Chrissy, and Heather, and Robin is regularly shipped with all three.

Buckleway - D - ^ same problem as above but also at least Buckingham is creative with it.

Edancy - D - Literally just add the N after the D it's not that hard. Why does this one exist.

Duzie - D - Terrible but I can't think of something better.

Pompompistol - F - leave me alone there's literally two alts above this and you're Choosing to use this one?

Rating whatever ST ships I can think of bc it's night (post lemon) and I'm bored

Lumax- 10/10 so poetic and beautiful the show doesn't do them justice which is SAYING A LOT romo lumax and platonic lumax have my heart

Elmax- the first ST ship I started shipping before joining fandom! 10/10 incredible beautiful drop dead gorgeous romo and platonic elmax are perfect

Hopclair- 10/10 I may currently be running on a hopclair ANGST high, but as I've said and will not hesitate to repeat, these two NEED to team up and NEED more screentime together! Romo, platonic, and queerplatonic hopclair love in my brain

Henclair- recently found appreciation for them upon season two rewatch and reflecting join season two, cute enough for a maybe 6/10 as romo 15/10 platonic

Henderhop- I just can't picture it 0/10

Morallysus- idrk seems kinda morally sus to me :/ -10/10

Elmike 8/10 platonic and I will not elaborate

Byler- objectively 10/10 but they are not who I'm thinking about when I'm actually watching- that's when my elmax and platonic stobin brain turns on romo and platonic byler on their respective places in the timeline are literary impeccability

Byclair- adorable and I could totally see it, 7.5/10

Wheelclair- surprisingly cute but not my first instinct I do truly Get the cuteness but 6/10

Elumax- be it romo lumax romo elmax with pl hopclair, romo hopclair, or qp hopclair, still adorable to me and I actually understand them more than you do don't go near my children sorry guys blorbo is just for me actually 100/10

Stobin- 10/10 platonic and queerplatonic aromantic and lesbian solidarity!! But also their arc and how they support eachother!! Beautiful precious my precious you can't have it wow am i gatekeeping?

Rockie- unopinionated so 6/10 besties endgame material romo

Ronance- I can never stop thinking about Nancy comparing Barb and Robin to eachother but y'all's headcanons are cute 5/10

Stancy- you know me. I love Steve. I love Nancy. Which is exactly why I can't in good conscious dare ship them together! Nancy's whole thing of relating him to Barb's death (valid) is word on its own if you don't throw in the fact that Steve super cool dream directly contradicts everything Nancy wants in life! Neither of them should have to compromise their LIFE around accommodating the other! You can say what you want about "they still like eachother romantically" which isn't even really true imo but had it ever occurred to you that sometimes people can feel romantically and and decide that a friendship would do them more good? Which isn't to say they are super close friends either because honestly their friendship has gotten the least amount of attention by the writers. -20/10 romo and 7/10 potential friendship that we will never get to see on screen.

Jancy- I honestly could not care less whether they are endgame their unbreakable bond etc etc doesn't care whether they're friends or dating 6/10

Jargyle- 10/10 how does it feel to be the most perfect ship in the world? Pl, QP, romo, alterous, whatever it is these two mean the world to me

Stonathan- question why? I'm sure it's cute I just don't understand the origin of the hype. What's it ABOUT for y'all?

Stoncy- see above, both 5/10

Steddie- I actually like it as a ship kind of if it weren't for the fact I can't see Steve not being aromantic. Also while we're here thank you if you've stopped cross tagging because I'd I look up Erica Sinclair In not looking for Eddie x Reader fics 6.5/10 romo

Boyce- wait actually this might have been my first ST ship not elmax.. anyways they're adorable and I totally hated the way they did the love triangle thing. Hopper being annoying distracted me from Bob being the coolest guy in the world.

Jopper- I guess I'm cool with them now but I was so anti jopper in S2 not because I'm invested in the love triangle I fucking hate love triangles but because Hopper was insufferable in seasons two and three and Joyce had like no boundaries in season three that got weird because ofc the writers decided to build up their canon in the most annoying way possible. Maybe they could have been an 8/10 if ST writers had fucking tried at all before season four but now they're closer to a 4.5/10 for me tbh but go back to season one where their friendship was pretty cool and they've known eachother forever and all that- super fucking sweet 8/10 points taken off because I just generally find Hopper annoying (as a person not as a character I get how he's important to the story and blah blah)

Boycer- since the suffers never ruined it I mean wrote it and I can imagine them however I want- polyamorous Joyce with her two boyfriends is a 10/10

Edissy- I genuinely thought this was a joke 2/10 romo 7/10pl

Joyren- not to be a Karen hater but I kinda hate Karen 1/10

Kargyle- I love Kali with all my heart. I absolutely adore Argyle. But I don't get this ship. Like why. 5/10 romo 8/10 pl

JSBHDKJSDLF yknow what i love that u saw the opportunity and ran with it (and get ready for a lot of talking bc i have so many thoughts about them)

so. idk how to start this but i'll start it by saying that im a multishipper who enjoys all kinds of different ships and all kinds of dynamics of those ships. i ship jancy, and jargyle, and steddie, and ronance, and all kinds of different ships because i just think it's fun to see how different characters would interact with each other, whether it be romantically or platonically. i do this especially when characters barely interact because i like to imagine what those characters would have done together, how they would have treated each other if they had more time to be together, what they'd talk about, etc etc.

and that's how edancy started, yknow? i wanted to think about how they'd be together, platonically at first. with their similar traumas in how they felt like they didn't or couldn't protect someone from their untimely death, i wanted them to have each other as comfort. yes, there was so much going on, and they wouldn't have had time for a heart-to-heart about it canonically, but we saw how eddie felt about not being alone when the gang found him at rick's. how COMFORTED he was by the fact that chrissy's death may have been new to him, but it wasn't to dustin, or max, or steve, or robin. and i know he eventually figured out that nancy had gotten involved, too, but i feel like if he had known how nancy got involved with it all, that would bring him more comfort, sadly enough. knowing that he wasn't alone in feeling that guilt that someone was lost and that you were the only one who knew the truth of what happened to them.

and then i started noticing the little things, things that don't mean anything i suppose but they mean something to ME and this little rarepair. like when nancy reassured eddie that they were going back to rick's, or when eddie helped her onto the boat to get to the middle of lover's lake. eddie trying to stop nancy from chasing steve into the upside down, and nancy telling him (and robin) to wait for her, and eddie diving in himself to follow her and robin. "nancy, watch out, behind you". the shock and relief in eddie's face when he finds out nancy owns guns. "does anyone know morse code?" / "wait, does S.O.S. count?". eddie's reassuring pats on nancy's shoulder when she was unsure if trying to contact dustin, erica, and lucas from the upside down would even work. eddie knowing exactly how far he lived from nancy's house. eddie frantically looking through his music to find something, anything, that nancy would listen to in order to free her from vecna. eddie wanting to buy more time for everyone, nancy included.

it overall started as me trying to find a way to get people to see, "hey, eddie and nancy deserve interaction too", but it slowly turned into its own thing. and while i know people may not agree with me on shipping them in a romantic sense, i like knowing there are people who see the potential with them in any way.

Girl same I absolutely despise Ronance and especially Steddie because it's all people talk about. They don't even care really about individual characters and act like that shit is canon. You can't go through the Robin tag because it's all about Ronance it's like Robin as her own character doesn't exist.

I can't even imagine how the Jancy shippers feel because looking through the Nancy tag is like all about how Ronance is the only thing ever despite it doesn't make sense for Nancy's character to throw herself in another relationship. She's a bad gf as it is, like she needs a friend rather than another romatic pairing.

Same with Steddie they barely interacted but yet people go crazy over any pretty white dude near Steve. Most of the time in canon he seemed to be uncomfortable by Eddie's existence and wasn't even sad about his death. Like I get shipping do whatever but it's still kinda annoying that it overtook everything and that the characters seem to be nothing outside their respective ships.

I’m honestly glade you feel the same sometimes it just feels like I’m being harsh for no reason so I’m glade that you agree! yeah because steddie and ronance are talked about a lot it can be quite draining to only hear about them. Yes honestly they really just don’t care about the individual characters cuz I mean especially Steve and Eddie just get turned into people that they aren’t. And as Steve is my fav character is honestly bothers me that so many people mischaracterize him. Especially if they always have him being Eddie’s bully in the past. Like they make Steve out to be so malicious and it’s so infuriating. Oh my god you are so right about Robin too because I swear even in her own fanon ship she isn’t even herself and allowed to be her own individual. Like some people make her out to be Nancy’s therapist or something and it’s sooo weird. Also it feels weird to me how the first lesbian character in st gets ignored for a stupid ship. And her feelings in canon get ignored with her crush on Vickie like it just seems so weird to me.

Yeah honestly same I can’t imagine how jancy shippers are surviving. Like I’ve never been huge on them but I can admit that they sometimes have really cute and wholesome moments. Yep you are absolutely right like it makes no sense for Nancy to just throw herself into another romance especially when she hasn’t even known Robin for that long. And also the show did go in the direction of having Robin mention that she would be ostracized for being a lesbian so I don’t see them suddenly just being romance buddies. Especially since Robin is selective about who she tells about being a lesbian and I can’t see her telling Nancy all about it. Like it took being tortured by Russian people and being drugged for her to actually open up to someone about her sexuality. Also especially when Nancy’s sexuality has never actually been confirmed in canon and it’s all been speculations/headcanon. And like the fact that Nancy’s side/feelings/sexuality have been taken into account more than Robin’s who is in canon actually a lesbian it fees weird to me. Like to me it would come out of no where with ronance. So it would just come out of no where when vickie and Robin had those scenes together showing that they like each other in the first place. to me it would be very off putting to just suddenly have ronance when Nancy wants a relationship with Jonathan and when Robin wants a relationship with Vickie. And yep you’re right like Nancy needs a friend instead of romance. Like I remember a time when people were just excited about Nancy having another friend who is a girl. And Robin having a friend who is a girl. Meanwhile now it seems like you can’t go anywhere without ‘but look at them being romantic’ and god does it annoy me.

Also I have mutuals who do like ronance so I don’t mean that I’m judging everyone who loves it. I just mean that it isn’t my cup of tea.

At first I was excited about steddie before season 4 came out and then they only had one scene so I was disappointed but not surprised. Honestly I was hoping for more of a rivalry between them and for the rivalry to actually mean something to Steve’s character. Like now he’s getting upset that Dustin is spending time with another person who he thinks is just so cool so Steve is like ‘well I’m getting replaced so how do I fix this’. And then they kind of just dropped the ball on it. And you’re right they only have one scene together and yet people constantly go crazy about it. Yeah Steve is very uncomfortable with Eddie and I wish they expanded on it a little bit ya know. But I guess it is what it is.
