obsessed with the cultural implications that differently gendered nouns hold in gendered languages... for example in french the sea is feminine! how wild is that! what kind of person would i be if the sea was feminine to me? in arabic the sun is feminine and the moon is masculine! fascinating!!!! and what kind of effect does this have on a bilingual person who grows with 2 different gendered suns? TRANS RIGHTS wait where was i going with this
#i do think its noun gender influences terribly one's perception of a thing. my prof was like it's just grammatical if i talk about a closet#i don't feel like it's a male it's just wood. <- well that's not true! to me at least. sometimes speaking english i use he/she pronouns to#talk about things that are masculine/feminine in italian bc it just stays with me. it's attached to my perception of the thing. i guess an#example that would make sense to english speakers is the fact that in the english cultural imaginery death is male. it's a man. well in#italian the word is feminine so its representation in art and literature is feminine which is not the case for english#does that make sense?
