To me the most disingenuous part of them trying to make Ozai more empathetic was having him at Lu Ten's funeral showing honor and compassion??? What is the reality of the story in this context??? Lu Ten's death was literally the catalyst for Ozai's rise to power and perhaps the tipping point of him going from power hungry to completely sociopathic.
Ozai's reaction to Lu Ten's death was not to honor him in fact he went to Azulon and flat out said
"Iroh has no heir and he's a failure you should make me the fire lord" and even Azulon was like DAMN BRUH
The chain reaction of Azulon demanding Zuko's life as punishment for Ozai's outrageous claim leads to Ursa's absence and Azulon's death. It wasn't a moment of brotherly bonding it was quite literally Ozai showing his true colors by blatantly disrespecting the death of his nephew and intentions of usurping Iroh all along. Not being some soft family man who is "really trying"
The NATLA version of that whole event while well-intentioned is ultimately a hollow understanding of the source material and a very disingenuous way to portray Ozai's true cruelty and lust for power
#atla#natla#Zuko#Iroh#fire lord ozai#azulon#Lu ten#seriously how many of the people defending this show are really looking at it with an ounce of healthy slepticism?#does everything really need to be spoon fed and yassified for these audiences?#Ozai’s sociopathy is far more interesting to explore than this lazy garbage
