#does bruce have contingencies for one of the bats remembering a past life?

I actually have a half-written idea very similar to this!
The team was captured by the giw and experimented on until it killed them, but tucker always reincarnates and has been for thousands of years. Difference this time is that he's extremely liminal and was able to share it through the fraid bonds so they could escape.
Tim is danny, barb is jazz, cass is sam, duke is tucker, stephanie is ellie, and valerie didnt die, so she still protects amity park. They all had vague memories of a past life, and on meeting each other for the first time, the fraid bonds snap back into place and they recognize each other. They are also still liminal and have limited access to their powers.
Sam/cass runs away before killing the dude and goes straight to amity park to find valerie. The rest mostly congregate as bats like canon.
I didnt really have a plot beyond that, just the set up. If i remember and have time tomorrow, maybe ill share what i already wrote? But i also dont want to derail your original prompt...
Hmmmm
Hmmmmm
So we know during the time Tim lost in spleen (his Red Robin run) and wakes ups next to the pit he almost believed he had been tossed in the Lazarus Pits.
What if
Now hear me out.
What if he actually was.
But what if instead of gaining Pit Madness, he unlocked his past life memories.
His memories of being Daniel 'Danny' Fenton and Danny Phantom.
And once the memories returned so did his ghost form and powers.
And as Tim sits at the bottom of the pits, crossing his legs and letting all his memories slide back into place he questioned what to do now. He pondered for a moment and hummed tapping a finger to his chin.
Maybe he'll play the Pit Madness card? After all Ra's chucked him in here to either turn him into a mindless rage machine he could manipulate or see what the Pits would do to a mind like Tim's. Or Tim could pretend to be a silent rage, a calm before the storm.
Well, Tim grinned his eyes glowing green as he stared at the surface of the Lazarus waters above him, he was very good at lying this life time around. After all he was Tim 'I can even lie to Batman and get away with it' Drake-Wayne and he did used to be Danny 'Commit to the bit' Fenton/Phantom.
He was going to have fun playing that fruitloop named Ra's like the cheap kazoo he was.
#also in your prompt it would be hilarious if jason is a reincarnated dan#like no wonder he was trying to kill tim#they become best buds after tim remembers enough to cure the pit rage#the rest of the bats are very confused#does bruce have contingencies for one of the bats remembering a past life?#if he does then tim knows what it is and is gonna screw with him so much#omg what if bruce is jack?#maddie is selena maybe? or talia? idk#barb is def jazz#honestly you good go with all of the reincarnations from my idea if you want#but maybe someone else wants to rearrange them?

Timothy Jackson Drake-Wayne had just woken up on his once-a-month mandatory rest day when he saw that the Drake Family Lawyer contacted him about a contingency letter left by his mother. Apparently, word of mouth travelled fast that he had come back from his supposed soul-searching trip around his parentās favorite dig sites.
Mr. Fletcher had asked him when he was free to come get the letter his mother had left for him. Tim had wanted to get out of Gotham as soon as he could so he set up an appointment for that afternoon.
Tim had whipped together a quick breakfast and taken his antibiotics before he spent the rest of the morning finalizing his 2 weeksā notice since Bruce had been able get back into Wayne Enterprises for the week. It had just been a little over a month since Tim had brought Bruce home from the Time Stream and while Tim had expected things to change, he had hoped it would be for the better.
Bruce hadnāt even blinked at the sight of Damian wearing the Robin suit. Hell, he had congratulated Dick for the way he had managed to keep Gotham and everything in line. Bruce had even found the time to fix up his relationship with Jason before he talked to Tim.
He didnāt even bother to thank Tim for saving his life and for taking over his family business. Instead, they talked business and acted as if nothing was wrong in front of the WE employees. If it wasnāt in business suits, then it was in the other suits when he called in Red Robin to help with a case. Tim hasnāt stepped foot inside the Manor in months.
If this was Bruceās way of saying he didnāt need Tim anymore, he got the message loud and clear. After all, he was just the replacement, right? The pretender who forced his way into their lives and refused to go peacefully so he had to be kicked out. Well, here he was, bowing out silently out of their lives.
Tim had planned meticulously for how he would be able to leave without them noticing. In a week, he would submit his 2 weeksā notice to Lucius Fox before heading on business trip to Japan to finalize a deal. He would be spending the next week there before heading to Austria for another week for another business deal. After, he would simply go wherever he wanted to go.
He preprogrammed a message to be sent to each of the Bats, as a farewell of sorts because even if they didnāt think of him as family, he still loved them as if they were his family. He had even prepared a message for the Titans in case they would ever need him again. They were the only ones Tim trusted enough to keep in contact with. Everyone else, even Alfred would have to be left behind.
Tim viciously pushed these thoughts to the side as he decided to enjoy a quick lunch before he made his way to talk to Mr. Fletcher. As he mindlessly prepped ingredients for a simple salad (because his immunity was shot so he needed all the help he could get), he wondered what would be in the letter.
His mother was not the touchy-feely type. She wouldnāt put something about them loving him. Most likely, it would be business instructions to ensure that Drake Industries would still be the empire that it had been under his momās command. Unfortunately for his mom, his dad had been the one to wreck the empire.
Tim had thought about reviving Drake Industries but had ultimately decided it wasnāt worth it. The amount of time that went into running a business wasnāt conducive to being a teenage vigilante and Tim wanted to be free to pursue the things he wanted in life. He had more than enough money to live off on and he had invested his money wisely so it had been turning a profit since he had left Gotham the first time.
Even if he continued his vigilantism, he had more than enough money to support himself. He didnāt need their help anymore, just like they donāt need him anymore. As he started cooking his breakfast, he marveled at how he had gotten to this point of independence from the Bats.
Ever since he came back with Bruce in tow, the rest of the Bats didnāt even bother to contact him unless it was for patrol or for a case. Oracle only kept in contact for business. Dick basically ignored their issues and tried to pretend they didnāt exist. Damian liked to act as if he didnāt exist. Jason was, oddly enough, the only one he could stand even if they did only work together for cases. Cass was still in Hong Kong.
If he was being honest with himself, Tim desperately missed being home at the Manor but after everything happened, it was clear that the Manor was no longer his home. Home used to be with the Bats and occasionally, with the Titans. Now, Tim would have to find a new home for himself, hopefully away from Gotham and the Bats.
Tim ate his salad mindlessly while he let his mind wander on his active cases. He would need to tie up his loose ends before he left without the bats taking notice. He popped his next dose of antibiotics into his mouth after and finally decided that heās wasted enough time to start getting ready for the appointment.
After a quick shower and change of clothes, Timothy Drake-Wayne was ready and presentable to the public again. Tim debated bringing his motorcycle but the address of the office was only a couple of blocks from his apartment and he could use the walk to clear his head and get some fresh air.
As he left his penthouse, Timās mind debated again about what his mother could have possibly written about. His inheritance had already been secured since he was born so it couldnāt be that. The business had already sunken and drowned under the guidance of his father. It didnāt make any sense for Janet Drake to write a contingency letter and yet, here it was.
Tim didnāt know why but every step felt like it was weighed down with lead and his stomach dropped as he got closer and closer. By the time he was at the office, Timās mind was buzzing about theories as to what could have been so important for him to know that his mother, famed Iron Dragon of Gotham wrote a letter just in case she died.
Mr. Fletcher must have been eagerly awaiting him by the looks of it since Tim had scarcely knocked on the office doors before it was opened. Itās been a while since Tim had seen Mr. Fletcher given that he had retired before the Drakes passed.
āTimothy, youāre early!ā
āMother taught me that it was better to be early than to waste otherās time. Itās nice to see you again, Mr. Fletcher.ā
āThat does sound like something Janet would preach. I wished weād met again under more ideal circumstances but youāve grown into a fine young man. Your parents would be proud.ā
āThank you. Your email mentioned a letter from Mother?ā
āAh yes! As you know, ever since my son took over my position at the firm, I had relinquished all of my active duties to him but this was more of a request made by your mother to me as a confidant and friend. Jacob, my son had been cleaning out my office a few days ago when he found the envelope. He contacted me immediately about it and I remembered what it was about. I made the trip out here because I had to give it to you before I forgot again. I owe your mother that much.ā
āWhat do you mean, Mr. Fletcher?ā
āI think itās best for you to read it, Timothy. I already know what it contains but Iām here to answer any of your additional questions.ā
This suddenly seemed like a much bigger deal than Tim originally thought it would be, especially since Mr. Fletcher had left his retirement in Metropolis to give this to him in person. With bated breath, Tim opened the sealed envelope and began to read.
~~~
Dearest Timothy,
If you are reading this, then there are two possible options. Either I have passed on before your 18th birthday or I was too much of a coward to talk to you about this in person and I gave you this letter instead. As I write this, your father is asleep, holding you after a nightmare from todayās ordeal at the circus. I have tried to sleep but my mind will not be quieted about the possibility of that happening to us before I could tell you the truth so I decided to make this contingency letter just in case. By the time
youāre reading this, you will have grown into an intelligent young man who I know is capable of so much more than Jack and I could have ever dreamed of, partially because you are more than Jack and I could ever produce.
Timothy, you are not our biological son. I had gotten pregnant but the child I had borne was stillborn. Jackson Timothy Drake hadnāt been able to take his first breath before it was taken away. Luckily for me, your father was out of town on business and I rushed to Gotham General against my earlier wishes and they had stuck me in a room with another woman who had given birth to a beautiful and healthy baby boy, you.
You were both born on the same day, in the same room, with different fates. Your mother was a young woman from the seedier side of Gotham and your father was out of the picture, or so she said. She was planning to give you up for adoption anyway and so I made the only impulsive decision I have ever made since marrying Jack and I told her to give you to me. I told her I would give you the life of luxury you deserved and that you would never want for anything if she gave you to me. She agreed on one condition: I tell you the truth about your parentage on your 18th birthday so that she could have the opportunity to get to know you too. Ā
She didnāt even let me pay for her hospital bills because she didnāt want to be indebt to me even though I was forever indebted to her for giving me you. I had John rush over to Gotham General and make a contract for both of us because I could not allow Jack and the rest of Gotham High Society to find out about this. The only ones who knew about you being adopted were me, John, your mother and the medical staff who helped us. Since Gotham General was severely underfunded prior to my intervention, it was easy to get them to change the records to make Timothy Jackson Drake be born and for Jackson Timothy Drake to disappear. I had gotten the staff involved to sign NDAs and to make sure that none of this got out.
As I write this, I have seen you grow into this absolutely marvelous and intelligent child, talented in ways I could have never expected. It is bittersweet for me because as I see you grow, I cannot help but think of what my biological son could have been had he survived. Would he be as smart and as capable as you? Would he be different compared to you? Would I have taken you in had he survived? I have never regretted my decision to adopt you but I could not stand to watch you grow when I know my biological son never will. I know I will most likely grow to be distant from you and I already regret it but I cannot stop myself from seeing my dead son in you.
However, I can already tell you will be stronger than I ever could be. You take to your lessons like a duck to water and you see a magic in the world that I could never see. I want you to know that even if you are not mine biologically, I still love you even if I cannot show it. I love you even if you cannot feel it. I love you but I also love the son that I lost and I cannot help but mourn for him while I watch you grow. Your father does not know so his love is genuine and pure for you.
I want you to know this, Timothy. I took you in on an impulsive decision but I have never regretted it. Sure, I wish with all of my heart and mind that my son had survived but I was able to have you and you more than made up for it. I know that this does not excuse my future actions, my possible neglect of you but I hope you understand why I cannot bear to be close to you. I love you even if I do not show it. I love you even if you cannot see it. I love you and I hope you can forgive me for not telling you sooner.
Love,
Mother
~~~
Of all of the possibilities Tim had considered, this was not one of them. This explained so much but also left so many questions but the only thought passing through his head was the fact that, even at birth, he was a replacement.
āI assume you have questions?ā
āIām still trying to wrap my head around it, to be honest. Youāve known the entire time?ā
āYes. I was the one who made the contract for your mother and she swore me to secrecy.ā
āSo, let me get this straight. I was just a replacement for her son who died?ā
āNo! Of course not. Timothy, I know it must not have seemed like it but your mother and father truly did love you as if you were their own. Your mother has some leftover problems from her childhood that negatively impacted her ability to show her love even if she does. She would have never bothered to put in the effort otherwise.ā
āIām trying to believe that but my recollection of Mother is not that different from the Iron Dragon of Gotham.ā
āThatās because she fought to give you the best education and care possible which she knew was not her own. Thatās why she constantly changed your nannies and tutors because as soon as she felt they inadequate for you, she was searching for the next best thing for you. Janet didnāt really care in the normal ways, Timothy. I know itās hard to see but she really did love you and take care of you in her own way.ā
āI just. I never expected this.ā
āI knew this day would come but I was honestly hoping your mother would be here to explain her side of the story before she told you who your birth mother was.ā
āDo-do you know who my birth mother is?ā
āItās not written in the letter?ā Mr. Fletcher seemed genuinely surprised at this.
āNo. Mother didnāt include her name, just a vague description of her. Can you tell me who my mother is?ā
āI guess by the time Janet wrote it, she had forgotten the name. I think I have the contract hidden here. Let me look for it.ā
What followed was the tensest five minutes of Timās life. He didnāt even know if his biological mother was still alive but he wanted to find out. After all, his birth mother had wanted to reconnect when he was older. Maybe, she wanted to have him in her life, just like Mo-Janet had apparently wanted him in her life.
Maybe, she would be there with welcoming arms. Maybe, she was one of the many civilian casualties of their nighttime escapades. Maybe, she had gotten lost in the seedier side of Gotham and she had never been able to make it out. There were so many maybes that Tim wanted to figure out what was true and what wasnāt.
āAha! Here it is. According to this, your birth mother is Selina Kyle.ā
Holy shit. His mother was fucking Catwoman.

Justice League Review & Recap (Warning: Get comfortable)
Soooo, if youāve ever visited my blog in the past, you know Iām a DC comics fan. Iām not anti-Marvel, mind you. But I love me some DC. With that in mind, itās important to note that Iām not your average DC fan or DCEU fan or DCtv fan. I tend to like a lot of things others dislike, and dislike a lot of things others like. Thatās not me being contrary. Iām pretty much that way about most issues in life ā politics, music, travel, etc.Ā
Iām telling you this to prepare you for my fangirl rantings. You might agree with some of them. You might think Iām loony about others. But understand, Iām not trying to convince you to agree with me. Iām simply expressing my opinion. I say nothing out of malice or a desire to run down someone or something any person loves. Thatās not my style. Iād rather spend my time gushing over the things that bring my life joy than dedicate a lot of time and energy to tearing down things that donāt. (Case in point: I started typing a review of Thor: Ragnarok 2 weeks ago after I saw it, but decided not to continue and didnāt post it.)
With that said, letās jump right in:
Warning: Spoilers be below, so Iām using a cut tag out of courtesy. And seriously, you might want to grab a snack because Iām going all in. š
If youāre looking for a mild or hate-filled review of the Justice League, you might want to stop now. I loved the film, and I already plan to buy it when it comes out on digital release. I currently own 2 DCEU films: Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Iām attending the ACE Comic Con on Long Island in December, and I plan to see JL multiple times before then. Iāve already seen it twice. Iām a fan. So if you were hoping for an all-negative review or youāre not interested in the details of what I liked and didnāt like about the film, stop now.
Also, these points are not in chronological order of the film. Letās do this:
What I Liked
Sassy Alfred is back! That dig about Bruce not dating was not missed, sir. Not missed at all. Alfred, never change.
Barry not knowing which direction was East = Me as a superhero! šš
When we came back from the theater,Ā BvS: Dawn of Justice was on HBO. Both my mother and I said we didnāt even notice they put a photo of Pa Kent in the coffin with Clark at the end. So kudos to the continuity team for remembering to include it in Justice League. And shame on me for not noticing that before. Also, when the photo fell into the amniotic fluid during the resurrection scene, I canāt help but think that was meant to symbolize Clark losing a valuable part of himself in the process of coming back to life. (But hey! I was an English major. I see symbolism everywhere.)
I respect the fact that the DCEU acknowledges all the advancements in the digital world we live in today, but Commissioner Gordon is still sticking with the tried-and-true analog Bat Signal with the lever and the thick wires and the sparks every time he needs to beckon Batman to a rooftop. Jim, never change.
The line:Ā āYeah, somethingās definitely bleeding.ā - Batman (This was both funny and in character.)
I liked the subtle and not-so-subtle references to a world in a continual state of despair and upheaval littered throughout the film. We hear Alfred say,Ā āI do not recognize this world.ā And Ma Kent talks about having trouble even listening to the news anymore. I think someone else references the anger and bitterness thatās around us everywhere we go these days. I know most of these scenes were filmed before 2 years ago, but I swear that dialogue could easily fit in with many of the statements I hear every day in conversations with my family, friends and people online. Once again, Snyder dials into that realism that makes the DCEU feel rooted in the world we live in today. Plus, Arthurās recognition ofĀ āpeople who donāt have anywhere else to goā is a much appreciated acknowledgment of the current refugee crisis, but its done in such a way that it wonāt feel dated in the future.
Billy Crudup delivers more in his two short scenes than most actors do in entire films. Heās now one of the reasons Iām really looking forward to the Flash solo film.
While Iām handing out kudos for acting, I want to say Iām proud of Ray Fisher and the job heās done on bringing gravitas to Victor/Cyborg. I saw some DCEU-hater videos a few months ago imply that he might tank the film because audiences didnāt know his work before JL,Ā which is absurd. Most of us didnāt know Hugh Jackmanās work before X-Men, but we gave him a chance and now yāall crying over him leaving the role after Logan. Ray did a wonderful job conveying the struggle Victorās going through without making us feel like we missed so much backstory we couldnāt follow his emotional journey. He was the right casting choice.
I appreciated the Amazon fight with Steppenwolf to keep him away from the Motherbox so much more on the second viewing. The details, the logistics, the combat strategy were so much easier to take in once I knew how the battle was going to end. If you were like me and didnāt quite grasp how well that was shot, please watch the movie again.
I really liked the end credit scene and the appearance of [REDACTED]! It was not the end credit scene I was expecting (the Trailer-bait scene with Alfred talking to someone off-screen was the one I wanted), but Iām not mad. [REDACTED] is no manās poor substitute.
Me learning new things: I never knew Supes was as fast as Barry. I knew they would race each other all the time, but I never knew he could literally see him moving inside the speedforce. Thatās news to me, and it made that scene feel even more awesome!
Commissioner Gordonās comment about the amount of structural damage Batman caused at the Gotham Harbor made me chuckle. I appreciate them hanging a light on that constant complaint.
Now, I, too, kind of want to know if Superman has ever fought a hippo. Iām kind of mad Supes never answered that.
So glad I saw the film a second time because I completely missed the confirmation that the Lanterns helped defeat Steppenwolf the first time he attacked Earth. Diana said that nearby visitors from other planets helped them drive Steppenwolf into retreat, but I was too busy trying to take in all the details and I missed the oh-so-important green ring that falls off the guyās finger. Lantern Corps confirmed!
I appreciated that Barry recognized that his attempt to get a fist bump from Victor could be considered racial charged. Thatās why itās nice when we see Victor finally giving Barry a fist bump at the end while the team looked out on the safeĀ® nuclear power plant area.
I liked how they showed that Bruce does have bruises and gets hurt in his battles against the others. I know we didnāt get to see much of it, but those bruises were important to his story and his journey, just as his comments about knowing he canāt do this forever.Ā
What I Loved!Ā
Lois Lane isĀ āthe Big Guns.ā You damn right she is!!
Aquaman/Aquamomoa really was wielding that quindent like it was an extension of himself. He flipped that thing around like it was nothing. And knowing Jason like IĀ ādo,ā he put a lot of work into making it look fluid as possible. Itās kind of hard to miss with all the action on the first viewing, but when heās fighting Steppenwolf alongside Diana, you can really appreciate how well he works the weapon to give himself a fighting chance with an enemy twice his size.
Diana calling Resurrected!Clark Kal-El. Bruce calling Resurrected!Clark Clark. This was me each time:
Absolute favorite scene:Ā Everyone fighting Resurrected!Superman. Not only because itās well done, but because of this: It did a great job of showing how much of a threat Supes is going to be in the future. He had just woken up from a dirt nap, so he was in no way running on all cylinders and they still couldnāt really take him. Imagine how much of a threat Superman will be to the others when heās at actual full power? Granted, Diana was holding back and Arthur was out of practice/rusty in the ass-kicking business, but even at their best, I think itās clear theyāre not going to be a true match for Supes when he is at his best. That was a cleverĀ āsneak peakā of a story to come.
Also, Superman catching Dianaās arms before she can clash her bracelets together, then headbutting her. Then her headbutting him. Then him holding her wrists, raising in the air, and headbutting her into the pavement. That was so awesome! It made me suddenly want to buy the video game and pit Wonder Woman against Superman over and over again.
Loved the head-nod to canon about Batman already thinking of contingency plans should they not be able to control Clark once heās resurrected.Ā
Iām extremely happy with the inclusion of Victor as the linchpin to defeating Steppenwolf. I know a lot of people questioned his inclusion as a member of the Justice League, but heās honestly a great addition. Not only because of the Motherbox technology, but because of his understanding and access to digital technology. In 2017, the Justice League needs to have someone on the team who can handle the digital aspects of a fight. Maybe it wasnāt as big of a component to fighting the good fight back in the 1980s, but it definitely is now. Cyborg is a perfect addition/update to the Justice League concept. It just works. Anyone still pushing back on this after seeing JL doesnāt really have a solid argument.
Favorite Aquaman moment: When Arthur finally joins the fight and helps the team under Gotham Harbor. When he came in and used his quindent to hold the water back long enough for the others to escapeā¦ I damn near jumped out of my seat with applause. You go boy! Talks to fish, my ass!
I love a good argument. That is, when writers create an argument between characters where itās difficult to choose a side, I love that! Thatās why I love how Bruce shuts Diana down about her trying to tell him to move on after Clarkās death. I understood her trepidation about using the Motherbox to resurrect Clark, but Bruce was 100% on the money when he said sheās the last person to tell anybody they need to move on after suffering a loss considering how she shut herself off for almost a century after losing Steve Trevor. Sure, Victor calls Bruce an asshole, and Barry said that theyād cover for Diana if she killed Bruce, but Bruce was still right.
This moment: Superman: āI knew you didnāt bring me back because you liked me.ā Batman, awkwardly stammering:Ā āI donāt ā¦ not ā¦ā
Everyone has a small character arc that doesnāt get ignored at the expense of the action or storyline. I love it when storytellers do that! By the time the credits roll, 1) Diana learns to come out of the shadows and own her role as a hero. 2) Barry learns confidence in battle, even if he isnāt as strong or as sure-footed as the others. Itās clear by the end, he understands that his skills will come in time. Plus, friends.Ā 3) Victor begins to see his condition/situation as something other than a curse, and we can see his relationship with his father start to mend. 4) Arthur starts to find his way back to interacting with the world as someone up other than an outcast from both sides of his family. 5) And, well, Clark comes back from the dead, and after letting off some steam, decides to forgive ā¦ eventually. 6) Maybe Bruce doesnāt have much of an arc since he spends most of the film trying to right a wrong he made, but I think thatās enough on his plate for now.
The scene that tugs at my heartstrings the most: Bruce acknowledging to Alfred that the team needs Clark. And that itās Clarkās humanity that makes him remarkable. Not his powers. Not his abilities. The fact that he was willing to only use those abilities to help others, but also try to live a normal life with a job, a girlfriend and a desire to make the world a better place even without those powers is what made him special. I swear that whole speech just made me want to hug the writers.
One word: Booyah!
What I Didnāt Like
No Perry. Not even a cameo. š£
Whereās my Clark accepting Loisās āYesā for his proposal in absentia scene from the trailer?! Trailer-bait is mean, Snyder. Just mean. I donāt know if this is Whedonās doing, but ā¦ yeah. Not happy.
Poor Barry tripping over his feet. š I understand why itās necessary to show him as a greenhorn, but it still makes me feel sad.Ā
I did feel as if the pacing in the beginning was a bit rushed. It was as if they were really quick to jump into introducing the team/convincing them to join. But I chocked that up to the studio over-editing Snyderās work again. And I quickly put it out of my mind about 15 minutes into the film. Like any good DCEU fan, I figure the directorās cut will fix it, so Iām not too bothered.
I know the Russian family of four was just supposed to represent the host of families that have sought out the nuclear power plant area for refuge, but are now in danger of getting killed in Steppenwolfās wake, but constantly going back to that one family made me feel like they were the only family in danger. I think it wouldāve been more effective to include shots of a couple of other families bordering up their homes in fear of the parademons. Itās not like they didnāt have the budget.
When BvS came out, I said I think I wouldāve preferred a clean-shaven Bruce Wayne/Batman. I was wrong. He looks better with the stubble. Much better.
Barry was at the beginning of his journey, so I understand the use of humor to cope with his new situation, but sometimes I felt like he was a little too much comic relief. Not that it was out of character for him. He was/is a guy desperate to make friends, so keeping it light even in serious moments does kind of fit him at this stage. But it did sometimes feel a bit much. I mean he is still struggling to get his father out of jail, and trying to get his life on track. His joviality felt a little too much at times. I love his geekiness, but I donāt want to see him not be taken seriously by the audience going forward. Hopefully, they will avoid that in future films.
The CGI for Victor looks brilliant, just like I said it would. I saw nothing wrong with it at all. It had weight and density. It appeared cutting edge without appearing unreasonably implausible. The complaints about it when the trailers came out were completely unfounded, just like I said. But ā¦ the CGI on Cavillās face sometimes looked ā¦ no. Just no. That definitely couldāve been better. At times, he looked like his face was uneven in terms of depth. And others, he looked like his skin was too perfect. For a film with this budget and with their schedule, I expected better.
Unpopular opinion: Iām still unsure about Amber Heardās casting. Iām trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, but based on the few films Iāve seen of hers in the past + the one scene she has in Justice League ā¦ I do not feel hopeful. I mean when I compare Billy Crudupās big scene with Amberās scene, Iām like,Ā āHow did she get cast in this franchise?ā Iām on board with all the casting choices so far except hers. Iām going to try to give her more rope, but Iām not going to pretend to be a fan because other people are.
I still feel like people are going to walk out the cinema and go: āSo what can Aquaman do?ā Itās clear heās strong, agile and fearless. And after bodysurfing a parademon through a building, itās obvious he doesnāt bruise easily. But I still think people are going to go, āBut what can he do?ā We literally saw him use a quindent to hold back umpteen gallons of water, but folks are still going to talk trash. SMH. I wish the film did more to alleviate that prospect.
This, That & The Other
There was a lot more swearing than I expected. No judgment. It was just more realistic given the situations they were in, and since the general public seems to be bothered about the DCEU feeling realistic, it was more than I expected. I figured with all the clamoring to make things all light and bubbly as possible, swearing wouldnāt be as much of an option for the franchise anymore.
That joke Clark made about wishing he were dead after helping rip apart the Motherboxes: Too soon! It honestly made me feel uncomfortable. Iām still trying to unpack why, so I didnāt include it with the things I didnāt like in the list above. But honestly, it kind of deserves to be there.
Unpopular opinion:Ā If they do bring in Green Lantern, I hope they choose John Stewart over Hal. If they go with Hal Jordan, everyone is going to compare him to Ryan Reynolds. Save us all from that unnecessary fandom war, and just go with John Stewart! Plus, you get to add another DC hero of color, and frankly, John was a better Green Lantern than Hal. Yeah, I said it!
I walked in toĀ Justice League excited to see the upcoming origin films in this order: Aquaman, Flash, Cyborg. I walked out excited to see the origin films in this order: Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman. I still love Momoa, but Iām actually more interested in seeing Barryās origin story more now than Arthurās.
Why couldnāt Bruce just buy the farm back from the bank? Why did he have to buy the entire bank? Bruce is so extra.
To Sum Up/Overall:
I donāt want my overall review of the film to be a reactionary one. By that I mean, Iām not interested in arguing or refuting othersā rumors, reactions or feedback. I feel like it taints the genuine impression I walked out of the theater with after seeing the film (both times). So Iāll say this:
I thoroughly enjoyed Justice League. Iām not upset, aggravated or disappointed in any way more than I was after watching Batman v Superman. I donāt think the film was as strong as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it was a good solid film about a team coming together for the first time who were in very different headspaces to fight an enemy who is the precursor to the ultimate Big Bad weāll see in Justice League 2. I thought the film did fine mixing heart, humor and story without sacrificing character development and purpose. It is not set up to deliver the same emotional impact as BvS, so I canāt genuinely complain if it does not do that.
Iām aware they had to, for lack of better phrasing, ādumb it downā because so many people felt lost while watching BvS. I didnāt feel lost watching BvS, but I respect the fact that not everyone is me, and I actually prefer films that donāt insult my intelligence. BvS was the first ā and frankly, only ā comic book movie that hasnāt insulted my intelligence. Justice League had to play to an audience that consists of more than just me so itās structure is overly simple and easy to follow. Literally no one should feel like they didnāt understand what is happening in this film.Ā
Thereās more humor, which is fine by me, but at times, it did feel out of place. That is not to say they arenāt allowed to be making jokes, but it felt out of place because you can tell when itās not Snyderās āvoice.ā And subsequently, it doesnāt feel like Supermanās āvoice.ā But again, Iām willing to overlook those moments because they were minor beats that didnāt detract from the filmās impression. Itās like having a few scratches or dings in the bumper of a vintage Shelby Mustang cobra. You wish the scratches werenāt there, but the car is still a work of art.Ā
Thankfully, I saw this film with my mother. My mother is a lifelong comic book fan. (My stepfather is also, but he had to work and couldnāt see it with us.) And Iām very lucky to have her perspective on these films because as a hardcore comic book nerd who has a ton of knowledge of the DC/Marvel universes, but doesnāt partake in any of the internet fandom infighting and overly dramatic social media scream fests, she allows me to see the film from the perspective of someone who just wants comic books to come to life on the big screen in an amazing way. She doesnāt dig for slights. Sheās not interested in one-up-manship. She wants all the films to do well, whether theyāre Blade, HellBoy, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Avengers or Justice League. And I think some of usĀ you who spend a lot of time on the internet supporting your fandoms need to have someone in your lives who can do the same thing for you. Seriously, some of the reactions Iām seeing online are so tainted by this arbitrary competition and need to have everythingĀ ājust so,ā I really think youāre missing out on the joy these films are meant to bring you.
Yes, Iām excited to see the directorās cut of Justice League. Yes, I prefer my Superman having a more time-realistic coping process after having been dead for so long. But that doesnāt mean I canāt enjoy watching a freshly resurrected Kal-El take down a not-quite-gelled team of superheroes without expending too much effort. Seriously, that entire sequence was fantastic and I will probably re-watch it multiple times. (Do I really just want to see other superheroes fight Superman? What does that say about me? Hmmm.)
Anyway, if I had to make a major gripe about the film is that itās missing that āsomething.ā That soul that Zack Snyder brings to this franchise. And by that I mean, Man of Steel feels like Zackās movie. BvS feels like Zackās movie. But Justice League, although primarily directed by Zack, doesnāt quite feel like Zackās movie. And I miss that. It works fine since this is the first time the team has come together and their still finding their rhythm, especially Arthur, Victor and Barry. But my hope is that by the time JL2 comes around, the studio will let Zack do what he does and give the film its soul.Ā
The DCEU films work for me because they feel much more grounded in reality, which is the hallmark of DC comics (yes, even the Atom). And although there is some element of that in Justice League, it doesnāt come across as well as it did in Zackās other films. I can only assume itās because the studio had him change certain details and the editing job Whedon did kind of imbued the film with a style that didnāt quite gel with Zackās. Donāt get me wrong. Whedon can do realism, but his realism isnāt the same as Zackās, and I feel likeĀ Justice League should have Zackās realism from start to finish (at least within the same film). Heās the one who got us here, and heās the one who will make it feel like its ours. Not the studioās, if that makes sense.
No, the film wasnāt perfect. But literally none of the comic book movies have been perfect, even the good Marvel ones. They all have flaws. But I donāt need a film to be perfect to be a delight that I want to see over and over again. This film didnāt need a lot of twist and turns. The most important takeaways are 1) bringing the team together, 2) resurrecting Superman, and 3) testing their mettle against an agent of Darkseid. And thatās exactly what it accomplished. Was Steppenwolf on the same level as Lex Luthor? Hell no! But heās not supposed to be. Steppenwolf is a club. Lex Luthor is a scalpel. Each film should have a villain that suits the desired outcome for the film itself.Ā
No civilians were killed, which apparently is a thing people only care about in DC films, but conveniently forget about in Marvel films. The fight scenes were epic. There was no room for ambiguity. And we got to see a team go on their first full mission together and begin to recognize why theyāre better together than apart. Superman mightāve been able to defeat Steppenwolf on his own, but he didnāt have the tech skills to do what they needed Cyborg to do with the Unified Motherboxes. We saw Batman save the Flash. We saw Wonder Woman save Aquaman. The Flash helped save civilians. Superman helped save civilians. We saw all of them handle themselves well, but not perfectly. And that to me is exactly what we were meant to see this time around.
I give the film a solid B+, but only because I suspect the directorās cut will be an A-.
Thatās it. The end.

One of my fav things about Jason is that while he doesnāt know the meaning of giving up, he still knows how to value his own life over his pride. You canāt do anything while youāre dead so he has no qualms disappearing when heās bitten of more than he can chew.
I know @m00nslippers did a 3-part(?) meta on this before where in the majority of fights Jason ālosesā he still ends up with the upper hand(in most cases) as he gets what he wants, saves his skin, and ends up with less damage than if he would have stayed/then his opponent earned in that interaction even if Jason was the one to ditch. I believe itās from Jasonās time in the alley; you get them down and you get away. I think Jason, out of all the bats, knows best that there is no fairness nor no rules to vigilantism. Itās not a regulated boxing match and thereās no āwinningā because winning isnāt completely decimating your opponent; itās staying alive another day to help more people. Think of Jason stealing Bruceās tires. When Bruce reached for Jason, Jason swung and ran. It wasnāt about taking down Batman. It was āholy fuck! The 6ā2 220 ibs man in the leather bat suit tried to grab me! Heās gonna kidnap me, hurt me, and lock me up; I need to get awayā
āJason fights dirty(dirtier than the others)ā is a take I often see, but likeā¦itās vigilantism??? Itās not supposed to be fair or clean??? Itās something thatās always baffled me. There are panels of robin!dick biting his opponents. None of them have any trouble fighting to stay alive. But to imply that all the others are so much nicer or fairer is a laughable take(while also usually a take used to undermined Jasonās actual fighting abilities) because itās literally illegal bare knuckle brawling that all of them are participating in. No bat has any problem seeing an opening and exploiting it to hell and back. Thatās Bat 101. I mean, come on! Bruce literally has files on how to kill all his friends/Allies if they go rouge. ļæ¼Barbara and Tim spy on the majority of their friends and loved ones. Both actions are so completely utter fucked, and a complete invasion of trust and privacy(i.e. neither nice nor fair)
The difference between Jason and the majority is that he isnāt there to humiliate his opponents. It isnāt about the fight, and it isnāt about them. Itās about achieve his end goals. He only cares about taking them down and thatās it. Itās why his murders are so clean. Terrible people will never get the full karma coming for them, but if theyāre down(killed, in prison, etc) they canāt hurt any more people. They donāt deserve the luxury of being mutilated because itās not about them.
Even in UtRH, the joker is just a tool in a plot manipulated for Jasonās gain. Yes, Jason has his fun with the crowbar(good for him ^-^) but in the end he only wants a bullet in his head. Where Bruce seems to get pleasure in taking his opponents down and continuing, Jason just wants them gone(whatever way that may be). Remember Bruceās spiel about (paraphrasing) āwanting to commit ever deed he[the joker] has ever committed against everyone else to his person and then finally kill him but it wouldnāt undo any of the damage the joker has doneā and Jasonās like āif heās dead he literally canāt kill/main/hurt anymore people. He canāt continue collecting victims if heās gone what the fuāā like the whole point is that Jason is thinking about preventing future victims while Bruce is stuck grieving past victims.
So yes, Jason is much more adaptable to thinking of plans on the fly, but he also has no grievances of ditching a fight when it interferes with his actual goals. It makes Jason a master strategist because heās not even thinking about his strategies as heās fighting, he just does preforms then as second nature(compared to the others who have to plan their contingencies), and his second natures being his innate need to survive and staying alive (as heās been forced to do on his own his entire life).
(This also ties in to Jason knowing when to leave a situation when itās too much for him. Like he knows his triggers and he knows to avoid them(donāt @ me about the crowbar heās using right now. Itās stupid, I donāt like it, and Jason would have much more class than that where when his dramatic ass wants to partake in symbolism it wouldnāt be so on the nose))
Headcanon
One of the reasons why Jason is considered reckless ( besides B and everyone else being a bitch ) is that Jason has a good handle of what he's capable of and is not afraid to go with another plan if the first won't work ( or leave before the fight is "over" (like in his fights with bats pre new 52 ).
It comes with his time on the streets and his time taking care of his mom by himself. ( + all his Training by different teachers )
That is actually a good point! I always thought that heās much more flexible than the rest when it comes to planning. Bruce has this thing where he makes up aĀ āperfectā plan and as long as everyone sticks to it religiously, it will work out. One one hand it ensures a good preparation - but on another itās super stringent and uncompromising, and not everything can be foreseen - and every failure is blamed on not sticking to the plan... And all Robins took that and internalised it and it sometimes weights them down.
All except Jason - who was always willing to fight to the end, but also very good at recognising when he was fucked and changing his strategy to reflect that realisation. Being a victim teaches one about their limits and how to circumvent them in a way that will be the most effective at not getting killed. Jay never had the time to internalise the more self-destructive of Bruceās ways.Ā
Adult Jason is target-oriented more than anything, he will jump from plan to plan on the go - and, most importantly, he will not lose sleep over it.
