My short film I’ve been working on for my One Iowa class will be released on YouTube on October 11th!
I spent the month of August interviewing some local drag performers for different perspectives on the queer community and how they all feel on living in a state like Iowa in its current political climate. Currently in the last stages of editing but here’s a poster I’ve made for y’all

Cevin Soling’s filmmaking is not about playing it safe. It’s about shaking up the conversation and making people uncomfortable with the truth. By disrupting the mainstream narrative, he encourages audiences to question, resist, and seek change in a world where blind obedience is the norm.

When Robert Evans passed away in October 2019, Hollywood said goodbye to one of its most captivating and influential figures. Evans was a trailblazer, a man who defied conventions and blazed his own path to the top of the film industry. His evolution from a clothing retailer to a legendary film producer showcased his relentless ambition, unshakable confidence, and ability to reinvent himself.
Evans legacy in cinema is unmatched. As the head of Paramount Pictures, he championed some of the most iconic films of all time. Classics like The Godfather (Parts I and II), Chinatown, Harold and Maude, and Love Story became cultural cornerstones, with Evans vision driving Paramount into a new golden era.
But his influence wasn’t confined to the movies themselves—Evans left an undeniable mark on Hollywood’s culture. His larger-than-life personality inspired memorable fictional characters, such as Dustin Hoffman’s manipulative producer in Wag the Dog, the powerhouse studio head Bob Ryan in Entourage, and the morally complex Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. All carried a touch of Evans undeniable charm and magnetism.
Evans told his extraordinary story in his 1994 autobiography, The Kid Stays in the Picture. With his signature candor, the book recounts his meteoric rise, tumultuous falls, and enduring survival in the cutthroat world of Hollywood. The memoir was later adapted into a critically acclaimed 2002 documentary, which provided an unfiltered and deeply personal look at Evans life.
During one of the interviews we did with him, Evans reflected on the process of creating the documentary. As always, he was candid and direct, saying, "The worst thing that can happen is to do a puff piece on yourself, without the warts showing." For Evans, authenticity was everything. He believed his triumphs and failures—equally dramatic—were essential to understanding his larger-than-life story. His insistence on showing the "warts" made the documentary all the more compelling.
The Kid Stays in the Picture is available on DVD, Blu-ray, and various digital platforms, including Amazon, where the DVD is currently available.
