“What she wants is to bring the Doctor home and ground him the way she needed to ground herself.”— Catherine Tate from DWM.
Love how happy she sounds!

quick rundown on thoughts from "the star beast" spoilers obvi
extremely impressed that david tennant can go back to being the doctor and play a character that feels distinct from ten. i imagine, especially with the same companion, it must've been really hard not to slip into old habits
that said it was very... weird. bc this was an Event episode, which are normally specials or series finales, but we've never met fourteen before. i don't know this guy yet, it's hard to feel as emotionally invested as i should be. i know i'm poisoned from having just watched "day of the doctor" and also all of s4 in less than a week but still
this was unfortunately my least favorite genre of doctor who episode which is "a lot of people are shooting and stuff is blowing up a lot" which heavily overlaps with unit episodes. can you all talk for a minute stop shooting
i would die for the meep. and the twist that the meep was evil was genuinely better than most twists i've seen in movies recently. i want to pet the meep
we stan wife guy shaun
LOVE love love rose. haters stay seething and coping
loved the way of resolving the metacrisis! finally a better ending. binary and nonbinary. that said the "we know something a male-presenting time lord would never think of" was corny and overkill
sorry i hate the new tardis interior
really appreciate the doctor noting that what he did to donna killed him, he really spiraled hardcore in the specials. i've said that rose was the most important person to ten bc she basically created him– the bad wolf forced his regeneration, he was born out of the bond they shared and her love for him. and yet donna was destined to be the doctordonna which meant destiny forced him towards her just as much as it did her to him. so idk dude you have some serious codependency issues with women
so like a 6/10 from me. extremely excited to have russell back and i love what he's done with the place but this episode didn't really do it for me. i'm REALLY excited to see what he'll do with the toymaker and then again when we can get a slower-paced story going with fifteen

There is literally no difference between the importance of Clara, Amy, Rose, Martha, and Donna.
Rose was an ordinary girl who absorbed the energy of the TARDIS and became Bad Wolf, a godlike being so powerful it could divide atoms, send cryptic messages to the Doctor in the past, and make people immortal by force of will* in order to save her beloved Doctor. Then she somehow conned the alternate Torchwood into building a dimension cannon to punch holes into various universes so she could get back to the Doctor, and along the way gathered some important intel about the Daleks' plan to destroy all of reality, and also enabling Donna to restore the proper timeline so that the DoctorDonna could stop the Daleks. Also her love for him is what helped the Doctor get over his PTSD from the Time War.
Martha's the woman who walked the Earth and made it possible to restore the Doctor by channeling the faith of the entire human race, so that they could reset the Master's abomination of a timeline. I'd argue that she and Amy are on the same scale, in terms of "extraordinariness."
Donna was a seemingly perfectly ordinary woman who became the DoctorDonna via a regenerative metacrisis so timey-wimey that its effects reverberated bavkwards through her life, drawing her and the Doctor together repeatedly, giving her some kind of temporal power so intense that Rose's little UNIT gang in the aborted parallel timeline of "Turn Left" was able to track her down and send her back in time using a cobbled-together time machine so that she could reset her own timeline by putting her back on track to meet the Doctor, because her compassion is what saved the Doctor from his suicidal depression over losing Rose, once again putting her on track to become half of the DoctorDonna, who saved the universe.
Amy was a perfectly normal girl until she had a crack in her bedroom wall, which led her to the Doctor, and through a weird chain of causality connected to that crack, she was able to bring the Doctor back into existence after he rebooted the universe, and later became his mother-in-law.
Clara was an ordinary girl who chose to sacrifice herself to save her friend by throwing herself into his timeline, sending splintered echoes into his past, two of whom he remembered meeting and failing to save, which led him to become obsessed with figuring the original (perfectly ordinary at that point) Clara out, which led to them becoming friends in the first place, because timey-wimey.** And then later she died again, and the Doctor being the Doctor, he decided he wasn't failing to save his friend for a third time, so he punched a diamond wall for a few billion years and made her immortal.
The plot mechanisms differ, but the scale of these characters' extraordinary heroism does not.
*Notably, both the Bad Wolf version of Rose and the ordinary girl version of Clara played important parts in helping the Doctor save Gallifrey instead of destroying it, in "The Day of the Doctor." It's implied in both the TV episode and even more strongly in the novelization that Bad Wolf/the Moment put Rose into the Doctor's path in the first place. But this is a Moffat retcon, and however much RTD himself might gush and fanboy over Moffat's work, I don't expect RTD stans to approve of anything he does, even if it makes Rose even more important than she already was.
**Missy claims to have arranged for Clara and the Doctor to meet by giving Clara his number, claiming it was a tech support line. She did this because she accurately judged that the dynamic of their characters would be suitable for her own twisted purposes, not because there was anything cosmically special about Clara.
