mortal kombat ; general tomas hcs!
Tumblr media
requested by no one! gender neutral reader. includes tomas vrbada. fandom masterlist found here. 🍀 . . . author notes: these are completely sfw bc i was in a tamer mood tbh! short sfw hcs while i work on a tomas req lol.
Tumblr media
tomas vrbada
— tomas isn’t the type to enjoy large amounts of pda. he gets embarrassed easily and personally believes that such affection should be treated as personal and intimate. that isn’t to say that he won’t kiss you in public or hold your hand — of course, he does — but he typically only initiates affection in private.
— speaking of private affections, he loves hugging you from behind!! he’s sneaky when he wants to be, waiting until you’re rummaging through the fridge for a snack before he comes from behind and wraps his arms around your waist. vrbada loves to kiss your neck and the shell of your ear in moments like these, showering you with love.
— he never used to struggle with getting out of bed in the morning but once he began sleeping in the same bed as you he found that he couldn’t stand getting up. all tomas wants to do each morning is lay in bed and snuggle with you. the bed is much more comfortable and sleep is much sweeter when he’s next to you.
— vrbada is actually really knowledgeable and into reading!! he definitely wouldn’t mind reading with you from time to time! you two can have your own little book club. i think he’d be into fantasy and classics but sneaks a few romance novels in every now and then.
— he loves being normal. like, doing normal couple stuff or average daily life tasks. things like shopping together, going to the doctor together, figuring out appointments, putting away groceries— tomas loves the simplicity of things. many things in his life aren’t considered normal, so he takes joy in things that are typical. it’s so interesting to him that even ‘bland’ activities can become fascinating adventures as long as you’re there.
— he cannot dance well but can he sing like a star. he’s not exactly shy about his voice, he just doesn’t think his voice is all that great… but it is. it’s smooth and of such a handsome cadence. whenever you two happen to be out and he sings along to a song that’s playing, it’s absolutely wonderful. ask him to sing for you and he’ll happily oblige, softly singing the song of your choice.
— he lowkey loves the idea of being a recurring character in johnny’s movies. whenever he’s an extra, he takes you to the movie premier and points enthusiastically (but not obnoxiously) whenever he’s on screen. vrbada has so much fun as an actor!
— if he had a normal, real-world career, he would likely be an engineer or something related to tech. also in a “normal” au, he would have reading glasses. tomas wouldn’t need to wear them all the time but imagine him studying for finals or working late with his cute little glasses… ugh!
— i adore the idea of vrbada with tattoos along his chest, upper arms, and back. tattoos that are sort of hidden but you get a glimpse of every now and then.. and each tattoo has meaning, of course, because he’s not the type to do it just because. you could probably spend a whole evening with him just tracing his tatts and asking the story behind them all <3

On September 10th we venerate Elevated Ancestor, Voodoo Queen of Louisiana, & Saint, Marie Catherine Laveau on her 222nd birthday 🎉
[for our Hoodoos of the Vodou Pantheon]
Tumblr media
Marie Catherine Laveau was a dedicated Hoodoo, healer, herbalist, & midwife who, "traveled the streets [of New Orleans] like she owned them", as the most infamous Voodoo Queen of New Orleans.
Marie C. Laveau I was born a "Free Mulatto" in today's French Quarter in what was then, New France); to a mother & grandmother who were both born into slavery & later freed via freedom papers. It is believed that she grew up in the St. Ann Street cottage of her maternal grandmother.
She married Jacques Santiago-Paris, a "Quadroon" "Free Man of Color", who fled as a refugee from Saint-Domingue, Haiti from the Haitian Revolution in the former French colony . After his passing, she became known as "The Widow Paris". She then worked as a hairdresser catering to White families & later entered a domestic partnership with a French nobleman his death. She excelled at obtaining inside information on her wealthy patrons by instilling fear in their servants whom she either paid or cured of mysterious ailments. Although she never abandoned her Catholic roots, she became increasingly interested in her mother’s African traditional beliefs. The Widow Paris learned her craft from a ‘Voodoo doctor’ known variously as Doctor John or John Bayou.
Marie C. Laveau I is said to have intiated into Voodoo career sometime in the 1820s. She's believed to be descended from a long line of Voodoo Priestesses, all bearing her same name. She was also a lifelong devout Catholic. It didn’t take long before Marie C. Laveau I dominated New Orleans Voodoo culture & society before claiming title of Queen. She was the 3rd Voodoo Queen of NOLA - after Queen Sanité Dédé & Queen Marie Salopé. During her decades tenure, she was the premier beacon of hope and service to customers seeking private consultations - to aid in matters such as family disputes, health, finances, etc, created/sold gris gris, perforemed exorcisms. While her daughter Marie II was known for her more theatrical displays of public events, Marie C. Laveau I was less flamboyant in her persona. She conducted her work in 3 primary locations throughout the city: her home on St. Ann Street, Congo Square, & at Lake Pontchartrain. Despite one account of a challenge to her authority in 1850, Marie C. Laveau I maintained her leadership & influence.
The Queen died peacefully in her sleep in her ole cottage home on St. Ann Street. Her funeral was conducted according to the rite of the Catholic Church & in the absence of any Voodoo rites. To her Voodoo followers, she's venerated as a Folk Saint. In² addition to her Priesthood in Voodoo and title of Queen, she is also remembered for her community activism; visiting prisoners, providing lessons to women of the community, & doing ritual work for those in need.
She is generally believed to have been buried in plot 347, the Glapion family crypt in Saint Louis Cemetery No. 1, New Orleans. As of March 1st, 2015, there is no longer public access to St. Louis Cemetery No. 1. Entry with a tour guide is required due to continued vandalism & tomb raiding.
We pour libations & give her💐 today as we celebrate her for her love for & service to the people, through poverty, misfortune, bondage, & beyond.
Offering suggestions: flowers + libations at her grave, catholic hymns, holy water, gold rings/bracelets, money
‼️Note: offering suggestions are just that & strictly for veneration purposes only. Never attempt to conjure up any spirit or entity without proper divination/Mediumship counsel.‼️

My Arthur: Some Night Thoughts
In between the cancellation of The Acolyte (there's still hope, Clone Wars came back) and the premiere of Rings of Power S2 -- and I PROMISE you that each and every dudebro I blocked in these situations on the former bird app either had crypto in bio or a timeline that was entirely focused on a sports team... I mean, why not think about RDR2? I want to think what it means that so many players speak of MY Arthur, like we all have little pocket Arthurs as pets. "I like my Arthur to be a scary bad guy so I keep him shaved bald." "Well, my Arthur looks his best with Level 7 or 8 hair and a Level 1 or 2 beard." "This time I'm making sure that my Arthur has the best satchel and the Legend of the East outfit." "I always pamper my Arthur before a hard mission. I buy him a ribeye steak at a saloon, get him a bath, and let him sleep just one more night in a hotel. I feed him up to Overweight before Guarma and Chapter 6." "My Arthur is high honor. He would never do XYZ." "Oh yeah? I think my Arthur loves being low honor and beating the crap out of people." "Weird. My Arthur's favorite missions are the dinosaur bones." All of these Arthurs are different and yet the same. All of them are doomed. You have to rewind the timeline and go back to a Chapter 2 save to have a healthy Arthur who can chat and sing with his compadres at the campfire. Nobody's Arthur, until you take him out of the game and into some of the absolutely and utterly beautiful fanart and fanfics, can succeed with Mary Linton, or Charles for that matter. The R* canon Arthur is always doomed. What does it say about us that we can't bear to let go of him, even though his own dialogue tells us he clearly sees the writing on the wall as early as Chapter 1? Is it just the natural human abhorrence of the reality that we too will someday die without accomplishing all that we wanted to? I can relate. Big mood, Arthur. In fragmenting into all of these disparate Arthurs -- Roger Clark has pointed out more people own copies of the game than live in Ireland -- maybe that's how the egregore, the Arthur conjured from the collective consciousness of millions of individual players, stays alive. Many writers of fanfics want their Arthur to be theirs. Not just a rough fuck on daddy's kitchen counter, although I've read that story too, and not just the Not Enough Beds trope, though that too was a fine story. They want to smash Arthur because who doesn't? But they want him to love them, despite R* Arthur having not one single solitary relationship skill. This new Arthur teaches you to draw (the preponderance of Arthur fics I've read involve a "you" reader). Your wish that he address you as he does a mare, "That's mah good girl," comes resplendently true. Sometimes, such are the fix-him powers of You that You and he escape the gang before the name Thomas Downes can be uttered. Arthur's heart beats for You and You alone. Sometimes he protects You from danger. Sometimes he accepts a free sample of sponge cake from You in a bakery. All of these Arthurs go out Arthuring all over the wrong but familiar RDR2 America, often with You at their side. Sometimes You even find him on the cliffside before his rattling last breath, and drag him to safety and a warm, dry climate. One Arthur I read was even saved by a doctor in Mexico with the only available treatment of the period -- collapsing part of the lung -- and recovered fully, having four kids with Sadie Adler and saving most of the RDR world along the way.
You can have your Arthur and play him too. Indeed, a fresh shot of Roger Clark's bravura performance -- combined, as he is the first to point out, with the animators' work, for example giving him the most delicious lower lip -- compounds the infatuation should it threaten to recede.
People suffer profound grief over this game. Of course, it is their own grief from non-digital life: "It is Margaret you mourn for" -- Gerard Manley Hopkins. Perhaps the loss of their Arthur and the way his surviving friends gradually adjust to the loss helps people make room for the holes in their own lives. But that's the thing. That's the comfort at the bottom of the grief pit.
Because once you find your Arthur, including within yourself (I don't just mean cosplay, but I've seen people of all genders don the stained blue workshirt, the suspenders, the neckerchief, the goddamn hat, and wear Arthur on their bodies)... you can't ever really lose him. He changes you. And that may be the strangest and most wonderful thing you can say about a work of fiction.
Keep sharing your Arthurs. The chibis, the young Arthurs cradling poor Isaac or reading to child John Marston, the AUs, the low-honor black coyotes and the high-honor 14-point stags. Marthur, Charthur, Albert Mason x Arthur. All the versions of him. Because they're also You.

could you do something smutty with Alex Dane maybe? 👉🏻👈🏻
Tumblr media
Title: The stall
Summary: It's you he wants, and in his eyes, no one compares to you.
Pairing: Alexander Dane × Fem! Reader
Warnings: Smut and criticism.
Author's Notes: Thanks for the request. I hope this is to your liking.
Tumblr media
As Alexander Dane's fingers tangled in your hair, he couldn't help but feel a surge of desire coursing through him. The dim lighting of the women's bathroom did little to mask the intensity of his brown eyes as they bore into you, watching you eagerly take him into your mouth.
You knelt before him, your lips wrapped around him like he was the sweetest lollipop, your tongue swirling and teasing as you pleasured him with practiced skill. His other hand held onto the side of the stall for support, his grip tightening with each exquisite sensation.
The dress you wore, a delicate and elegant garment he had bought for you, hugged your curves in all the right places, driving him wild with desire. His thoughts momentarily drifted to the post-premiere party they had just fled, the buzz of excitement still lingering in the air as they sought refuge in the intimacy of the bathroom stall.
But Alexander's mind was consumed by the overwhelming need to be with you, to feel the warmth of your body against his, to lose himself in the pleasure of your touch. His hips moved instinctively, matching the rhythm of your mouth as you sucked him with eager abandon.
But just as the heat between you threatened to consume you both, the door to the bathroom opened, and the sound of female voices filled the air. You froze, your heart pounding in your chest as you realized that you were not alone. Panic surged through you, the fear of being caught in such a compromising position overwhelming your senses.
Alexander, however, seemed unfazed by the intrusion. Instead, he tightened his grip on your hair, his voice low and commanding as he encouraged you to continue. "Don't stop, darling," he whispered, the urgency in his tone fueling your desire. "Keep going. I want to see you take all of me."
You obeyed Alexander's command, your lips resuming their eager ministrations despite the discomfort creeping into your chest. As you both listened to the women gossiping outside, oblivious to your presence in one of the bathroom stalls, their words pierced through the thin barrier of privacy.
One of the women mentioned Alexander, praising his performance at the premiere. Another reminisced about his role as Doctor Lazarus, causing Alexander to roll his eyes at the mere mention of the character. The conversation took a lascivious turn as they commented on Alexander's appearance, describing him as "fucking fuckable tonight" with his brown eyes and that baritone voice that sent shivers down their spines.
Your heart sank as one of them remarked that she would sleep with him given the chance, followed by the other questioning what he saw in you, dismissing you as unworthy of him. The criticism stung, and you couldn't help but release Alexander from your mouth, lowering your head in shame as their mocking words echoed in your ears.
Alexander sensed the pain in your eyes and immediately pulled you to your feet, pressing you against the stall wall. With a soft yet commanding tone, he reminded you in your ear of where his desires truly lay. "It's you I want to fuck, not them. You're the one I fucking want," he whispered, his words a potent mixture of desire and possessiveness.
His hands roamed your body, tracing every curve with a hunger that sent shivers down your spine, you felt a mixture of desire and anticipation building within you. His touch was electric, igniting a fire that burned hotter with each passing moment.
Turning you around, Alexander pulled your panties down around your thighs, the fabric catching slightly before sliding down to pool at your feet. With one foot, he spread your legs, a silent command for you to open yourself to him completely. Leaning in close, his breath warm against your ear, he whispered words that sent a thrill through your body.
"I'm going to fuck your little hole until you realize that no woman even reaches your feet," he murmured, his voice low and commanding. You felt a surge of excitement mingled with a hint of apprehension at his bold declaration.
As you tried to protest softly, mindful of the women still lingering outside, Alexander silenced you with a firm yet gentle command to stay quiet. His desire was palpable, his need to possess you overriding any concern for discretion.
With a swift motion, Alexander penetrated you, the heat of his desire meeting the eager anticipation of your body. He kept your dress up with one hand, the fabric bunching around your waist as he held you firmly against the stall wall. With his other hand gripping your hips, he pulled you towards him, the sensation driving you wild with need.
As Alexander's thrusts grew more urgent, you struggled to stifle your moans, and your boyfriend noticed this and pressed firmly his hand against your mouth, muffling the sound. The women's voices outside continued, their words like a cruel soundtrack to the intense pleasure coursing through your body.
"You're so fucking beautiful," Alexander whispered in your ear, his voice a husky growl that sent shivers down your spine. "So tight around my cock, driving me wild with desire."
You threw your head back against his shoulder, half-moaning, half-sighing as he pounded into you with increasing force. His hand left your waist to trail down between your legs, slipping under the fabric of your dress to find your soaking wet heat.
With his fingers teasing and taunting, you gasped against his hand, the pleasure overwhelming your senses as he plunged deeper into you. You grabbed his wrist, holding on for dear life as he guided you through the ecstasy of his touch.
"Keep your dress up," Alexander commanded in your ear, his voice a potent mixture of desire and dominance. "I want to see how fucking beautiful you look as I take you, right here in this stall."
You obeyed without hesitation, lifting your dress and holding it up as he thrust into you with abandon. His hand on your mound kept you steady, his touch electrifying as he drove you closer and closer to the edge of oblivion.
As the women's voices finally faded away, leaving you and Alexander alone in the intimate confines of the bathroom stall, you felt a surge of freedom wash over you. With abandon, you gave yourself over to the pleasure of his touch, riding the wave of ecstasy as he claimed you as his own.
With each powerful thrust, you felt a sense of liberation, a freedom that only came from surrendering to the overwhelming desire that burned between you. Alexander's baritone voice filled the air with a symphony of pleasure, his words a potent aphrodisiac that drove you wild with need.
Alexander removed his hand from your mouth, allowing you to moan freely as he pressed his free hand against the wall of the stall, leaning into you with a hunger that matched your own. You quickly pressed your hand against the wall for support, eager to take him even deeper.
"Alex," you moaned, your voice pleading for more, but Alexander maintained the rigorous pace, his determination unwavering. Feeling mischievous, you decided to tease him, moaning the name of the character he despised so much: "Doctor Lazarus."
Instantly, Alexander grabbed your hair roughly, pulling your head back as he stopped thrusting. You couldn't help but moan at the delicious sting of pain, practically bending over like a cat, your ass pressed against his crotch.
"Don't you dare moan that name, fuck," Alexander growled, his brown eyes dark with desire. "You know I don't like it."
You let out a giggle, unable to resist your playful nature even in the throes of passion, before offering a sheepish apology. But Alexander only smiled to himself, his baritone voice dripping with affection as he returned his thrusts slowly.
"You're such a tease," he murmured, his words laced with both adoration and frustration. "But I love you anyway, you beautiful girl. Those women out there mean nothing. No one means anything compared to you."
As he continued to move inside you, each thrust sending waves of pleasure coursing through your body, you couldn't help but feel a sense of euphoria wash over you. In this moment, with Alexander's arms around you, you felt like nothing else in the world mattered.
With every movement, every touch, you gave yourself over to the intensity of the pleasure, losing yourself in the heat of the moment. And as Alexander whispered sweet nothings in your ear, his words a soothing balm to your soul, you knew that nothing could ever compare to the connection you shared.
"God, you feel so good," Alexander groaned, his baritone voice sending shivers down your spine as he buried himself deep inside you. His hooked nose brushed against your cheek as he leaned in close, his hot breath fanning across your skin.
"You like that, don't you?" he murmured, his lips grazing your earlobe before nibbling on it gently. "You like feeling me inside you, filling you up completely."
You moaned in response, unable to form coherent words as pleasure washed over you in waves. Alexander's hands roamed your body with a possessiveness that left you breathless, his touch igniting a fire within you that threatened to consume you whole.
"I could do this all night," he whispered, his voice husky with desire. "I could fuck you until neither of us can walk straight."
With each declaration, Alexander's thrusts grew more urgent, driving you both closer to the edge of ecstasy. You gripped the sides of the stall, your nails digging into the metal as you surrendered to the overwhelming pleasure coursing through your veins.
"Please," you begged, your voice barely a whisper as you pleaded for release. "I need... I need to come."
Alexander's lips curved into a wicked grin as he quickened his pace, his movements becoming more frenzied with each passing moment. He knew exactly how to push you to the brink, how to drive you wild with need until you were begging for more.
"Tell me you want it," he demanded, his voice low and commanding. "Tell me you want to come all over my cock."
You nodded eagerly, unable to form words as pleasure consumed your senses. With one final thrust, Alexander sent you hurtling over the edge, your body convulsing with ecstasy as you cried out his name.
"That's it, darling," Alexander growled, his own release imminent as he followed you into oblivion. "Come for me. Let me feel you tremble around me."
As the intensity of your orgasms subsided, you collapsed against Alexander, your bodies still entwined in the aftermath of your passion. The sound of your heavy breathing filled the air, mingling with the soft hum of the bathroom's fluorescent lights.
For a moment, you simply existed in the blissful aftermath, lost in the sensation of Alexander's arms around you, holding you close. In that moment, nothing else mattered except the two of you, wrapped up in each other's embrace.
"I love you," Alexander murmured, his voice filled with tenderness as he pressed a gentle kiss to your forehead. "I love you more than anything in this world."
And as you lay there together, basking in the warmth of each other's presence, you knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, you would face them together, bound by a love that transcended everything else.

Happy Audio Drama Sunday! I emerge from the mines (moving and unpacking) to do a short post about two shows that premiered this week that absolutely rule.
Mercy: A Queer Eldritch Western caught my attention because i frikkin love a fantastical western pastiche. And it did not disappoint. Mercy and the surrounding towns are under seige by eldritch laughing jellyfish, and the only people who are trying to help are a mysterious cowboy and a doctor of the arcane who talks WAY too much. The sound design is SWEET, the writing is incredible, i’m in love with these characters already, please check it out.
🏘️ It’s no secret that I’ve been excited for Shelterwood, being one of the producers, and I did have the opportunity to listen to the first two episodes before this week, but I waited so i could savor it with y’all. And folks….This show is terrifying in a way that creeps into my bones. I’m sure it’s because I’m a suburban kid myself, but holy heck. Now I know what happens next, and you are not gonna want to miss it.
That’s all for me! Someone hit up the Sandman for me, i need to sleep today.

Chapter 9 of Time’s Arrow, “I am selfish, I am broken, I am cruel, I am all the things they might have said to you” is here! Woof. Sorry everyone. Happy Beetlejuice 2 premiere! :,)
THIS CHAPTER IS PARTICULARLY ROUGH. PLEASE READ THE WARNINGS CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING.
Extras below!
- The lyrics for this chapter’s title is from “Never Love An Anchor” by The Crane Wives.
- “The next ten months moved at the speed of a dream.” - A call back to a line from Time is a Flat Circle, which itself is a reference to “Asteroid City”! Gotcha again!
- “They read ‘Flowers for Algernon’, ‘An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge’, and… some sort of Jane Austen novels.” - I wonder if those stories are thematically relevant to this chapter?
- “He had no idea what to do about his fur anyhow. It had never grown in that long and thick before, how was he supposed to know it would do that?” - It was growing properly because he was finally happy and healthy enough for it to do so!
- “She was tall. Well, at least taller than him. Damnit.” - Bela is 5’9”! She is on the shorter side for demons. Beej is just especially small, since he was malnourished.
- “Her roots were black, the rest of her hair cascaded down to her shoulders in similar curls to his own, colored with a gentle lavender hue.” - Bela’s resting hair color is purple instead of green like Beej!
- “She had an orange-jeweled nose ring.” - Bela and Deb have matching nose rings, since exchanging jewelry is how demons court each other!
- “Shades of a gentle maroon red flickered through Bela’s hair.” - Bela has different colors for her emotions than Beej does!
- “Most were “whales”, stolen away in malevolent Deals to forever be a supply for the demon they were tied to. Slowly withering away to nothing.” - this is inspired by “Doctor Sleep”, because I’m a huge Mike Flanagan fiend.
- “They were all strange, all lacked the innate ability to socially adapt that the other demons thrived off of.” - Autism can run in a family, and it sure does run in the Shoggoth family!
- “He didn’t know why she was upset, but he knew it was up to him to make it better. (Why else was he here?)” - Still partially believes his only purpose is to make others happy, or they wouldn’t want him around.
- “… she hesitated, still firmly grasping the bright green fleece blanket he’d summoned from his room around her shoulders.” - The same blanket Charles got Beej for his room!
- “ “I watched this movie last night, since I couldn’t fall asleep. It was..” their voice caught in their throat, and their breath hitched. Beetlejuice slowly rose from his chair, setting the ice pack on the counter. “… lotta.. big feelings about it, huh?” They rapidly nodded, wrapping their arms around themself. “I don’t… I can’t keep living the way I do.” ” - Ash watched “I Saw The TV Glow”, which is a horror movie about being trans. It gutted me the first time I saw it. Ash had a similar visceral reaction, and it made her rethink how she is living. It also informs a lot of this chapter’s theming, but it is not required viewing for this fic. It is very, very difficult to watch for neurodivergent queers.
- “The living need attention too, Ash. It’s okay.” - This line is partially taken from “Dead Girls” by Penelope Scott, which is a very important song on Ash’s playlist.
- “You feel like you’ll die if you stay there. Or… worse.” - An “I Saw The TV Glow” reference. There’s quite a few in here.
- “Thank you, Beetlejuice.” - the first time they’ve called him by his actual name!
- Anyone spot more Time is a Flat Circle parallels?
- “It was then that Beetlejuice got hit by his first car.” - This is mostly a joke about how I, the author, have been hit by 4 cars. I feel like Beej would be similarly unlucky.
- “… it’s like being a wolf dog.” - This is based on how I’ve explained what it was like to grow up in my household.
- “Memories washed away like chalk on the sidewalk.” - Another “I Saw The TV Glow” reference.
- “Adam and Barbara celebrated their birthdays, which landed a couple days apart from each other, by smelling wine and watching ‘Lord of the Rings’ together. Beetlejuice was invited to join them.” - Based on something Adam made Beej he would promise to do in an earlier chapter!
- “June was full of beautiful sunsets he watched with his family.” - This was, like the previous thing, also listed among the reasons Beej should keep “living” in a previous chapter.
- “At the end of the month, walking to school and the store with Lydia, Beetlejuice realized with horror that Lydia was taller than him. Like, at least half a foot taller.” - Lydia is 5’7” now, he’s just being dramatic.
- “(How could no one see it? He felt so happy, but still he felt pieces of him slowly dying and rotting away. How could no one see that he was rotten? That he was dying?)” - This is partially another “I Saw The TV Glow” reference, and a reference to the ending of the song “you smell of dead flowers” by vslush and cliesel
- “August came like a thief in the night.” - A callback to Time is a Flat Circle! Which is itself an Edgar Allen Poe reference.
- “… they say old man Hirsch signed up for it right before he went missing.” - Yes he is named after Alex Hirsch, creator of “Gravity Falls”. Love ya Alex!
- “ “I managed to talk him down from another viewing of ‘Pride and Prejudice’!” (Another? What was that? They’d seen it before?)” - This is meant to alert the reader that something is very wrong, as “Pride and Prejudice” was brought up before by Beetlejuice himself.
- “Beetlejuice scratched at their left arm. The scars had started to fade.” - He was resorting to self-regulating self harm less enough that his arm was healing before this point.
- “I… I couldn’t.. I didn’t have enough energy to resist the Seal w-.. without a cult.” - Beetlejuice was tricking people to sign up for his cult under the guise of a “Loyalty Program”.
- “Why have they been going missing, then?” … “They swore they were choking on the taste of blood, bile rising in their throat as they felt their flesh between their teeth.” - Beetlejuice ate a few members of his cult. That’s why there’s missing persons in the town.
- “Someone’s hand gripped the back of their shirt, trying to pull them out of the kitchen. Panic spiked within them. Beetlejuice felt the blow to the back of their head, the horrible stabbing agony in their chest. That familiar, terrifying sensation they’d felt over and over and over and- ”- Beetlejuice had flashbacks to being killed during the loop over and over because Charles touched his old wound and it scared him, hence why he lashed out.
- “There’s still time. There has to be.” - Yet another “I Saw The TV Glow” reference.
- “ “Hello, pet.” Time’s up.” - Meant to envoke a terrifying line in “Yo, Girl” from Heathers the musical.
- “I’ll make you wish you could die!” - This line was originally going to be a more blatant reference to a line that Circus Baby from the FNAF series says often, “You won’t die, but you’ll wish you could.”
- “You always bounce ba- ” - Meant to be a reference to this scene from “Adventure Time” which I’ve… never seen…
- “Beetlejuice was distantly aware that Cyrus brought his claws up to his mouth to lick some of the blood off of them. “Choke on it,” they sputtered, although they weren’t sure if Cyrus could understand them through all of the blood that bubbled out of their mouth.” - Meant to be a reference to the horrific death of Captain Rhodes from “Day of the Dead”!
- “Beetlejuice wheezed out a last croak as Cyrus once again gripped their hoof and continued dragging them towards the portal.” - This is meant to evoke the gut-wrenching opening scene of “Scream”. Specifically, the part where Ghostface is dragging Casey away, and she is wheezing out her last breaths, which her parents can hear over the phone. The music in that scene never fails to make me cry. (I cried my eyes out rewatching that scene and imagining it playing when the Maitlands see the basement, but that’s not how things will happen…)
- “I’m sorry I was the one you loved.” - From “I’m Your Man” by Mitski.

Oh my god its not even a few hours apart its an entire DAY between the streaming drop and airing on TV. I take back RTD being a good business man. Allowing Disney to strong arm them into this shit deal (because its obvious Disney wanted better metrics from their US audience) is ridiculous.
For the next series I'll either have to watch it every week at fucking midnight or be spoiled by the time I watch it with my family the next day. Good bye to my sleep schedule for 2 months i guess! What a fucking riot.
Not to mention how this will decimate BBC1 viewership. You can just imagine the dominos "uh oh, Doctor Who isn't doing well! Too bad I suppose we'll sell it off. To who? Oh maybe the Mouse that's been doing suspiciously well with it. Definitely no connecting reasons there!"
Absolute fucking bollocks

Amy Adams, Tom Hiddleston and Elton John are among those who will be heading to Toronto this fall to premiere new films at the Toronto International Film Festival.
TIFF began to unveil the lineup for its 2024 fest on Tuesday, and premieres will include the Adams-fronted adaptation “Nightbitch,” the Elton John documentary “Elton John: Never Too Late,” DreamWorks Animation’s new film “The Wild Robot,” the coming-of-age film “Rez Ball” produced by LeBron James, the Korean drama “Harbin” and Mike Flanagan’s “The Life of Chuck” starring Hiddleston.
“We know the TIFF audience has been eagerly anticipating what films will be coming to Toronto this September, and today’s announcement is a snapshot of what’s to come this year: a wonderfully wide range of titles that span genres and generations, with discoveries for everyone,” said Anita Lee, Chief Programming Officer, TIFF.
“Elton John: Never Too Late,” “Harbin” and “The Wild Robot” will screen as part of the Gala selection, while “Nightbitch,” “The Life of Chuck” and “Rez Ball” will all have their world premieres at the festival as part of the Special Presentation selection.
The dark comedy “Nightbitch” is based on the Rachel Yoder novel of the same name and stars Adams a stay-at-home-mom whose domestic life takes a surreal turn. Marielle Heller directs and Searchlight Pictures will release the film in December.
The Elton John doc comes from Disney+ and is directed by R.J. Cutler and John’s husband David Furnish.
The indie “The Life of Chuck” is seeking distribution and is based on the Stephen King 2020 short story of the same name, with Hiddleston starring in something of a dramatic change of pace for “Doctor Sleep” and “The Haunting of Hill House” horror filmmaker Flanagan.
“Harbin” stars Hyun Bin, Lee Dong-wook, Park Jeong-min, and Jeon Yeo-been, and “The Wild Robot” is coming off a rapturous debut of footage at the Annecy International Animation Festival. DreamWorks Animation and Universal will release the film in theaters on Sept. 27.
The 2024 Toronto International Film Festival runs from Sept. 5-15.

The 18 Buzziest Films for Sale at TIFF 2024
Mike Flanagan’s “Life of Chuck,” Angelina Jolie’s “Without Blood” and Ron Howard’s “Eden” are all looking for buyers in Toronto
While the Toronto International Film Festival won’t officially launch a sales market until 2026, this year kicks off on Thursday with multiple buzzy titles for sale starring the likes of Ben Stiller, Sydney Sweeney, Jude Law and Tom Hiddleston.
Hollywood descends upon the Canadian metropolis for starry world premieres and the unofficial start of awards season. But for years now TIFF has also been a place of serious business. Last year the Glen Powell rom-com “Hit Man” sold to Netflix for $20 million at the festival after a raucous screening.
“They’ve very much shaped this festival with a sales environment in mind,” Intrepid Pictures CEO Trevor Macy told TheWrap as he prepared to head to TIFF with the Hiddleston-fronted Stephen King adaptation “The Life of Chuck,” from writer/director Mike Flanagan. “It seems like buyers are showing up in force.”
And to prove his point, Sony Classics scooped up “Jane Austen Ruined My Life” on Tuesday ahead of the festival.
Over 270 films are on the market this year, and Macy said that the demand “for strong titles in this moment of the market is going to exceed the supply of what good distributors have made internally.” He pointed to the success of Neon’s “Longlegs” this summer — the Nicolas Cage horror film grossed over $100 million off a strong marketing campaign — as an indie that connected with moviegoers theatrically.
But Jay Cohen, a partner at Gersh who heads film financing and is selling titles at the festival, cautioned that studios may only be looking to buy must-have titles, not filling out their slates. “There are really interesting films going to TIFF, but distributors already have pretty full slates,” he told TheWrap. “So the market will be driven more by passion less than need.”
Which means that only top quality films with identifiable audiences will attract buyers. Still, one agent noted that many of the buzziest sales titles, while officially unsold, already have distribution deals that have not been announced.
Macy and Intrepid are aiming to utilize what TIFF brings to the table — specifically when it comes to audiences — to find the right distributor for “The Life of Chuck,” which is a detour for horror filmmaker Flanagan, best known for “The Haunting” series on Netflix and the “Shining” sequel film “Doctor Sleep.” The new film is more “Stand by Me” than “The Shining,” and buyers haven’t prescreened it at all, so they will be seeing it for the first time at its world premiere in Toronto.
“From the time we made this movie, our first choice was Toronto because of the audience,” Macy said of the decision to debut at TIFF. “Our movie is fun and life-affirming but kind of sophisticated, so you want the right audience for that.” He and Flanagan had success a decade ago with the indie horror film “Oculus,” which found a buyer in Toronto and grossed over $44 million against a budget of just $5 million. It jumpstarted Flanagan’s career.
Will “The Life of Chuck” have the same success? Here’s TheWrap’s rundown of that and 17 of the other buzziest sales titles playing at TIFF this year.
Nutcrackers • Eden • The Life of Chuck • The Deb • Without Blood • On Swift Horses • The Last Showgirl • K-Pops • Daniela Forever • All Of You • Ick • Relay • The Friend • The Last Republican • Vice Is Broke • From Ground Zero • The Assessment

Hi Mike! Just wondering about the wonderful Katie Parker. Since she’s been a part of the Flanaverse for a pretty long time, I was wondering how she joined Absentia and which of her roles in your work is YOUR favourite? Personally I can’t get over how good she was as Poppy.
Also just want to quickly say I’m so excited to see T’Nia again in Usher. Thank you and have a lovely day!!
I first met Katie back in - I want to say 2008? Somewhere in there. She was friends with my girlfriend at the time and soon we were friends too. She was an actor struggling to find footing in LA and used to come over for movie nights and crash on our couch, and as time went by I started to think of her as a sister. I was working full-time as an editor on reality TV shows and trying to get something started. I wrote Absentia as a project for my friends to star in, so Katie's role was custom tailored just for her. Same with Courtney, Dave, Morgan and Justin. We were all living in LA and had similar dreams, but were all struggling to pay the rent and this was a chance to make something together that might get noticed.

We had a blast making that little movie, and it actually did what we all hoped it would do - it kicked open some doors, and led to Oculus being picked up by Trevor Macy at Intrepid Pictures (who has produced everything I've made since).
Katie had a small cameo in Oculus, playing the phone store clerk who sells Brenton Thwaites his first cell phone after being released from a lifetime in a mental institution. The scene was sweet and Katie was great, but it wasn't in the final cut of the film. I think it may be available on the blu-ray but I'm not sure to be honest. Katie remained a great friend, but there weren't really roles in the following movies that were a perfect fit. When I got my first shot at making TV, though, I really wanted her to be in The Haunting of Hill House. She auditioned to play Joey, the recovering addict who befriends Luke. The studio wanted to go another way with the part, and so I decided to write the new character of Poppy Hill for Katie instead, and she absolutely crushed it. It was meant to be.

After that, she was kind enough to take a smaller role in a much bigger film, portraying Silent Sarey in Doctor Sleep.

When it came time to make The Haunting of Bly Manor, I had a fun idea for Katie and my wife Kate to play the doomed sisters in one of our coolest episodes. It was exciting for Hill House fans to see them together, but it was really terrific for me to have so much trust in two actors who could make such a huge impact in one episode.

After Bly, Katie joined us for The Midnight Club, and has a wonderful role (and does some of her absolute best work) in the upcoming The Fall of the House of Usher. Just before those, though, she joined us at the Saturn Awards in LA, where we had an impromptu Absentia reunion with my sibling Jamie Flanagan and my dear friend Doug Jones, both of whom acted in that little movie all those years ago. It was really neat to see everyone in the same place again, and think back about how far we've come since those days filming in that pee-covered tunnel.

Katie is a phenomenal actor, and I was lucky enough to work with her at the very beginning of my career, and now five more time since. She's unique among the family of actors that I've accumulated over the years, in that she was there from the very beginning. We sat in a tiny apartment in Glendale dreaming of making movies, worrying about paying our rent, and trying to figure out how the hell to get where we wanted to go. I'm proud to know her, proud to collaborate her, and proud to call her family. I expect you'll see her in many, many more Intrepid productions for years to come.
