hmm jessamine lovelace jessamine lovelace jessamine lovelace. the dead girl who manages to be two people at the same time. as herself, as a ghost, she is forever young but she can grow and she has, she has protected the london institute many times, the home she has shunned many other times, and she has learned to accept it as her home, to accept being a shadowhunter as her fate, as her duty (but should she have to?). yet through the dollhouse she preserves, the idea of who her parents wanted her to be is preserved w it. the dollhouse is a mere copy of the house she lived in only until she was three, and yet she hangs on to it for dear life bc in it are also porcelain, fragile, dolls of her parents and her as a baby. in the dollhouse she is still her parents' daughter, or, rather, their dream of a daughter, someone who refuses to be a shadowhunter. but porcelain is fragile and it breaks, and yet her dying wish is to preserve that, preserve that memory of when she was still her parents' daughter. and, lest she let go, she will never fully grow, as she is attempting to immortalise a dream never to be attained. she will never be free of her who she couldn't be
